@CloudyInside im sorry but publishing someone elses work and not referencing them in the parts that you have taken is presenting the information as if it were yours, especially if you dont specifically say it wasnt your ideas. Doing this would get your kicked out of university, and that is saying something as obviously the school doesnt think you invented the theory of relativity if you were doing a report on relativity. So if he is taking peoples lore ideas, and not referencing them it makes it much much worse.
One thing I notice is the Orphan's Lightning attack. It looks less like the Orphan attacking and more like him calling to his mother for help and her responding. You can even hear a faint, feminine cry echoing during his cry, as if in responce.
@@GURSIMRAN-PSN supposedly, the Orphan is mimicking Gehrman due to the latter being the last person he saw prior to dying. His cry from the cutscene, for instance, is a lower register version of Gehrman's crying from one of his dialogues.
“Do you remember the shrimp-girl who fell from the sky above us?” She landed right on me, gave me the biggest jump in the whole DLC, and out of my 1440hp she must’ve done 1,000
Thus linking Dark Souls and Bloodborne. I Actually thought about this a while back, glad to see I wasn't the only one. Maybe Bloodborne is further in the Dark Souls timeline? Or better yet, maybe it's another layer of the nightmare.
+Giovanni Carbone (EyeOfTheLiger) But the Orphan cannot do a proper roundhouse kick and lacks a stylin ten gallon hat. He cannot live up to God-Norris.
Funny thing, when you create your character, there is the option to be the only survivor of a village. I always like to think, that maybe this is connected to the fishing hamlet.^^
I LOVE H.P Lovecrafts work and my favorite of his short stories is "The Shadow over Innsmouth". So imagine my surprise and excitement upon discovering the fishing hamlet and crusty old Deep Ones all over the place! Bloodborne: BEST LOVECRAFT GAME TO DATE!
+whitewyvernX I knew I couldn't be the only one who thought that! A little fishing hamlet with fish people worshipping Great (Deep) Ones? One can not deny the similarities. And I agree, Bloodborne does the Lovecraftian stuff REALLY well.
+whitewyvernX Could you suggest me a good site, or book where I can read H.P. Lovecraft works ? I'd like to have some more research for my upcoming art thesis, since BB inspired me very much.
One other thing to note is that in Japanese mythology, one part of purgatory is a shore where all kids who die before their time must stack rocks up vertically until it is time to be reborn again. Just like how you enter the village with a small walkway with stacked rocks. This village could be purgatory and the town underneath the shore is the other sides. And also you've come to kill a child, the orphan, to free him from this state of purgatory.
I concur. VaatiVidya I loved your bloodborne lore content and have been waiting for it since. Still Maria, Simon, Gehrman, and so much more to talk about
Agreed. From has a unique way of storytelling but this way fits much more to a single game than a series or a sequel imo. If it is planned as a single game there are less questions and more viable theories, if it is a series you get fanservice bullshit like solaire-worm, ornstein-nk dragon stuff.
What if the woman speaking when you enter the dream is actually Mother Kos? It sounds as if the woman is saying the curse as if she was casting it, and the curse was casted by a Great One (which is probably Kos) which leads me to believe that what we hear is Mother Kos casting the curse
Could it be that Gehrman killed Kos? This would explain where he acquired his third cord, and why the moon presence granted him audience. The moon presence is hostile towards other Great Ones and may have seen value in Gehrman, if he was able to kill Kos. It would also explain why the hunters are cursed, seeing as Gehrman was the first of them.
+adarg2 This is also possible given that once you kill the Orphan, the doll will mention that "a weight has been lifted" from Gehrman. There's definitely a correlation between Gehrman and Kos.
I like this a lot, because a) it explains why a weight would be lifted from Gehrman, and b) otherwise there's no real explanation of why Kos is lying dead on that shore. It's not like the inhabitants of the fishing village killed her, as she was sympathetic to them and presumably revered by them after the dicks at Byrgenwerth moved in.
I believe the reason why he feels relieved is because EVERY Hunter was bound by the curse of their forefathers. Which means Gherman had a double whammy burden (one by Kos, the other by the Moon Presence) If anyone was responsible of killing Kos herself, I would put my money on Maria. After all, she is the one hiding her corpse in the first place, and in a sense, watches over the Hunter' s nightmare. I mean look at her dialogue, he first sentence is "A corpse... should be left well alone". She wasn't talking about herself, at least I believe so. No she was talking about the corpse at the beach behind her. It's also suggested she committed suicide, but the reason was never made clear. She also cast aside her precious weapon, stating she could stomach it no longer. All this to me implies that she could have ended Kos under orders of the church, and she grew to regret it, I would also go on a limb and say she grew to despise her brother in arms and the church and made sure their suffering would nay be eternal. That's my theory anyway.
Same dude, but you gotta remember that Vaati has a son now so Its hard for him to upload more amazing content. It still blows my mind though that the dude I've been watching since demon souls has a son now. I guess we all gotta get wrangled up at some point.
A weapon I can call my own? Well I love several of the weapons in bloodborne, like the threaded pimp cane, the rifle spear and the explosive fist of justice, but if I had to pick just one weapon, it could only be...... my true mentor, my guiding moonlight....
God I love Bloodborne, the game is so good but the lore is just so damn rich and amazing to delve into. Thanks for the video Vaati, I love your lore videos!
+goobawhoba Probably because there's no consensus as to what exactly happened in the DLC and Vaati just collects opinions and theories and presents then as his own. No consensus, means no videos
+Petrik Leo Best way I found was kinda slow but made it a lot easier. The shortcut from the last bosses elevator you search for the area with the 2 brain trusts (kill them), might also mention around this area Brador invades you as well if you haven't fought him already, drop down into the area with the shark giants and climb up the ladder, this will trigger the first one to patrol the area. Return back to the bonfire shortcut to the last boss (bit of a run but not too hard I just ran past everything), DO NOT USE THE BONFIRE OR A BOLD HUNTERS MARK OTHERWISE THE SHARK GIANT WILL NOT BE PATROLLING. Go back to the brain trust area and stand on near the ledge and aggro the patrolling shark giant with either a pebble or something else first one will aggro onto you and won't be able to hit you with their higher damaging moves. You can use molotovs, poison daggers etc if you don't want to risk dying but if you want it to go a little faster generally duck and dodging on the ledge area is pretty easy. It takes a while but doing this method after trying a million different ways of doing it worked for me :D.
+Your #1 Fan What do people mean by that? I've tried them 3 different times and they've done nothing as far as I couls tell. I had to beat them by gitting gud.
TommyGuy1111 The shaman bone blade turns enemies hostiles to everyone. They attack indiscriminable. So you use it, run away, and watch the shark-trolls kill each other.
+Feign Cloud And from the U.S. as well. I know most of us here are fat greedy slobs, but I, for one, absolutely love your lore videos, and would watch them every day if they came out every day.
VaatiVidya ARE WE GONNA GET TO THE LORE NOW I NEED THE LOORE I wanna know if Kos is responsible for the beastly scurge,I wanna know what happen to Kos I WANNA KNOW SO MUCH(also 1. Sorry for typing mainly in caps 2. Wouldn't it be cool if u could get what orphan of Kos uses as a weapon)
+SunlightBlade When moment that the Orphan was creeping out of Kos' womb I had another video that I loaded. At the exact moment that Orphan started to stick his head and stand up, the other video started and the first lines were : ''I am very very scared...''. That was exactly my reaction when I fought him for the first time.
A rather late comment and I doubt you read these anymore Vaati but I'd just like to let you know how I always come back to this series. There's something about the way you present this DLC, along with the way you overlay Alex Roe's excellent soundtrack that's just tremendously appealing. Despite being in the grand view of things just another playthrough I've always seen it like a little film in of itself and there are times when I want to relax that I just come back to this. I hope that doesn't seem weird but I just hope you know how much I, and I'm sure at least a few of your other fans, appreciated this format and I hope sometime you'll do something like this again. Whatever you do I love your work, don't stop your awesome analysis dude
Kos washed up on the shore, and gave birth to a living child, which caused its own death. The child blessed the fishing village, and gave them insight from the great ones. Others heard of this village and what they had gained, and came to take it, killing everyone including the child. The child used its power to curse those that came and all of their descendants forever within its own dream turned nightmare.
+Dark Fishking I thought they found the child in the womb and butchered it. Kos was said to have washed up a corpse, it was dead before the birth of the orphan on the shore. I think Simon found them, the harrowed gear was for scouts and the fishmen are butchering people wearing it. He brought them and they took apart the child for research's sake. They probably also vivisected Kos's remains. Then Maria saw what they did and cursed them. We hear the Amydgala repeat her curse and teleport us, the sweet child of Kos, the black spirit fueled the nightmare as it was unable to return to the sea (Kos' version of the cosmos). It is a great sin. The murder of a great one, to commit deicide, especially when prayers to Kos had offered so much and Ebrietas had been so willing to help and communicate with humans, shows how much Byrgenwerth sinned. It is a worthwhile punishment in my opinion and what is worse is Maria's death fueled Laurence and Gerhman to make an even greater trap in the Hunter's Dream when compared to the Hunter's Nightmare.
Wilf Nelson Sorry but i do not get it. For how long was there a pregnant corpse? How far has the pregnancy of Kos to be that the (now-) Orphan can be born without dieng with the mother together. If Byrgenwerth already did research at pregnant Kos and her unborn child, how the fuck did it not become a premature baby? Modern real medicine could handle that but i do not think Byrgenwerth was able to. I do not understand in what order the stuff happened and in what term the Orphan was when Kos died pregnant. Kos looks already kinda rotten like she is there dead since a lot of time. But still pregnant and biological "alive" enough to grow the Orphan. She is not human, i know that but i do not know about any creature (fictional and real) that can grow and birth a child while being dead. It could be possible somehow if she died recently after the labor started but if Byrgenwerth molested her and the child long before, how much time does take her pregnancy and how has the labor not already started way earlier because of huge suffering, pain, emotion, and a butchered womb. How has the amniotic sac not broke by the torture? That are my reasons why i do not get the logic here.
I love the moonlight greatsword, I feel like it’s a slow heavy weapon yet it still feels so agile and fluent and it’s just amazing, and when it glows, it’s one beautiful looking weapon. And the fact that it alone restored some of ludwigs humanity makes me feel as if it’s a weapon that if you trust, it will almost reward you for it I guess?
When Lady Maria stated "A corpse should be better left alone.", what if she was meaning the corpse of Kos, and how maybe she wished for the curse upon the Byrgeworth Scholars for the tragedies they had committed. She seemed very negative when it came to the use of blood, and even maybe she had left the curse upon herself for succumbing to the use"Blood Weapons"? I did find it curious of why she seemed so determined to keep you from the truth, and maybe even protecting it.
+hadesbattle4 Maybe Maria was originally from the village. She became an apprentice to gerhman and trained under him. But then byrgenwyrth desecrated the village and now she med. She became the host of the nightmare. Gerhman felt guilty for killing kos and desecrating the village under byrgenwyrth's command, that's why eventhough he made the doll exactly look like maria, he wouldnt talk to her because of guilt.
+aimz210 She was from Cainhurst, as someone else commented, but I do agree that she may have called upon Kos, or perhaps the Orphan of Kos, to curse her fellow Hunters and create the Hunter's Nightmare. Of course, it's equally likely that members of the village called for the curse, but I really am sold on the idea that the Hunter's Nightmare is her own.
I wasn't saying that Maria is the one who called for it, but rather she wants it to remain. It just doesn't seem in her nature to joke about being a corpse, but rather addressing Kos, seeing that "it" is nearly dead. Much like how Gehrman is watching over the Hunter's Dream, Maria watches over the Hunter's Nightmare. Though Gehrman wishes for you to wake up, but Maria wants those who are brought to the Nightmare to suffer for their bloodlust. (Also just realized there is a Hunter's Dream and Hunter's Nightmare. Kinda fitting how Gehrman had feelings for Maria, and now they both watch over the different realms.
I get the feeling that Maria was part of the group that did all of this to the village. She loved her sword Rakuyo, but she threw it away. Why? Because the description implies she did something terrible, beyond forgiveness or reproach, with it.
+Hsaung Aye ♩whos allways last to know, who fills the airs with cry's whos sanity is blasted and then they usually die, The vicrims, the victims! TETICALS♩
I see what you mean there but I don’t think the fact that the hunters’ superstition stem from a random villager who had a hurt leg unless the said the villager is infected and was the original but that’s not true. There’s no clue about him being a beast. I have not tried attacking him. So idk. 😐
Roberto Cruz It'll continue for sure. He stopped when DS3 came out because he wanted to get in while it was most relevant. Now that the Souls games are taking a break, he'll most definitely go back to finish Bloodborne. It's got me thinking that he's gonna have to milk every game quite a lot if he doesn't also move on to other games.
If you're wearing the Milkweed Rune you'll see the little crawly things that give you Stone Shards won't run away from you... They simply stay where you find them.
I'm really loving this Brador character. I find his words especially chilling. "Death awaits foolish prying eyes and the church assassins are never far behind." Maybe it's because I have a thing for "greater good" assassins, maybe it's the fact that throughout the level you're trying to uncover the secrets of this nightmare and knowing you're being hunted by someone who's trying to keep you from doing so or maybe it's Simon's hopeless words but I'm just really drawn to Brador. Also, it's a small detail, but I love the fact that his weapon inflicts self-frenzy so it feels like you're fighting a hitman who slowly goes insane after time.
Perhaps Gehrman feels a sense of unshackling with the fact that he left his baby behind in the nightmare and was guilty for it, but is then relieved when you exterminate it, for he will no longer have to feel that dread.
There is a possibility that Gehrman is the orphan?... Sorry but i did'n get the timeline yet... But i thought that the nightmare could be a reflection of the past...
MrDibara Yep, Amelia's quite similar in appearance (in her Beast form) to Guts' inner beast after all :P love it. I can't wait for Dark Souls 3 when I heard that the great sword has movesets similar to some of Guts' attacks. Hakusensha/Dark Horse should totally just work to giving From Soft the rights to make a Berserk game :P you know it'd be awesome.
+VaatiVidya will you make a fourth part which you fight that flaming cleric beast(go back to the elevator and below it have the item you need to fight that boss) and demonstrate the effects of the kin transformation(use the kos parasite) and the beast transformation(the beast claw)?
+Arthur Blomme I think the Orphan is related to Gehrman because 1. the doll has a new dialogue after beating the Orphan and 2. there is a reddit thread for this theory which is awesome www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/comments/3v21r2/lore_the_orphan_of_kos_and_gehrman_thoughts_and/
I know this comment is 3 years old but what the hell…. It’s a wonderful game. Sometimes frustrating, but it’s worth it. The hardest part of the game is the first area. The best way to go about it is to level up as soon as you can. Find the knowledge with the rats, and you’re ready to go.
Dude your ability to piece together and tell a story is unmatched. I love sitting down and listening to the lore as you have interpreted it and I can’t wait for a Lady Maria video. I still have hope you’ll get to it someday
I do not know if this comment will go noticed, but I would like to say that this video is so amazing and perfectly crafted. This content, these thoughts that Vaati brings up, this is why I love this channel. The ideas guiding Bloodborne and its expansion are so mind boggling that it actually takes long amounts of time to wrap my head around small parts of it. Reality as an ocean which contains all manners of existence on different levels in four dimensions when time is included...this is very heavy stuff. I love it. Thank you.
The thing I love most of fromsoftware's games is that the "endings" are beautiful and cryptic and still leaving stuff for us to pick at and discover. They are without a doubt my favorite gaming creator out there
So talking about the whole layered nightmare theory, I was running through Nightmare Frontier the other day and noticed something that I think has never been mentioned before by a majority of Souls Aficionados. Usually most people's attention is caught by the ships below buuut what if the cosmos is very close to us, just above our heads? In the first part of the frontier way off in the distance to the stage's left is a structure that can only be seen while standing in a few certain spots because of the frontier's rock wall formations. Now I'm not 100% sure of what the structure is because even with the Monocular it's still kinda hard to see buuut I'm pretty sure it's Mergo's Cradle from Nightmare of Mensis... :\ Please let me know if this is already something that is well known and if it's not thumb it up so that way people/Vaati can see!
+Crowned Heart Yes you're right, you can see Mergo's Loft from the Frontier (Vaati mentions this in his second 15 Insights video IIRC). Although as far as I know, you can't see the Frontier from the Loft?
+Musica Monica That's exactly what I said when I noticed it! lol I guess it's not as big of a find as I thought but it's still really cool to know that the nightmares are all connected more or less! :D With everything we know so far we can see that the Nightmare Frontier is below Nightmare of Mensis, the Hunters Nightmare is seemingly below Nightmare Frontier, and that maybe the city of Yharnam itself is under the Hunters Nightmare! It's all so interesting and now that I think about it Yharnam being under some kind body of water, literally or otherwise, could explain why the ground is always so wet! LOL XD
+Musica Masonica That's the first thing I noticed about the Hunter's Dream upon first seeing footage of it in trailers and early gameplay stuff, but I just assumed it was a nod to DS1. Are there any archtrees in Demon's Souls? Because if so then we might have a kind of Yggdrasil situation wherein all of these worlds are self-contained but related.
I'd've never noticed that Deep Sea rune in the clocktower if not for this video! It's because of "insight" like this that I'm proud to be a Patreon of this channel. Loved the series.
You seem like a pretty busy guy and I know this is your livelihood so current and pertinent content is probably your main focus but hear me out. You NEED to make a prepare to cry for Lady Maria. You talk about doing so several times in these videos and there's soooo much stuff you touch on but don't go deep into because you always planned on making her PtC. The world needs it, Vaati. Love your stuff by the way.
I'm surprised by the fact that he didn't bring up how closely-related the Orphan of Kos is to the Hunter. The Orphan is a Great One in the form of a Hunter; a nimble, heavy-hitting combatant wielding a weapon with more than a few tricks up its sleeve.
+Dragonzzilla that's... a really good point, actually. Wonder what caused that. Maybe it's because it was born (maybe even developed) in the hunter's nightmare?
+wzx6x6z6w Bro. Listen to yourself. You just said you want to use something's *placenta* as a *weapon*. He's too blood-crazed, guys. Gotta put him down.
+Key Smith They were probably her own personal "minion race" when she was still alive, similar to how Rom had all those little baby spiders to fight for her, or how the insight suckers and slugs are reminiscent of Ebrietas.
***** Indeed, it'd lend a bit more credence to the idea of things "dropping" down through different layers of nightmare, though that'd mean the nightmare frontier is beneath the fishing hamlet not above it. Also I don't think that'd be a thing they had in mind when they first designed the squid enemies, other wise they probably would have included them in the dlc rather than the blood sucking bug things.
***** well they're not demons, they're gods. But yeah, the Great Ones themselves can pretty much do anything, but the actually Kin creatures are very much bound by mortal limitations, they can do more things than humans can sure, but they're still limited in their capabilities.
***** Not really though, not only are they refered to as gods in game, they're based off of elder gods from lovecraft, and their actual powers and abilities are those of deities, they create their own realms, they create entire races of beings, they answer prayers and can commune across planes, they are literally ascended to a higher plane of thought. I mean what stance is there to call them demons? because they look scary? that's not how that works. That'd be like trying to say the Greek or Norse pantheons aren't actual gods because they all look too human. If anything the Kin are closer to demons, as they are the spawn of these higher beings. And yeah, the Kin are just a species of being, like humans or beasts. They aren't inherently important to anything, much in the same way that some random guy walking down the street isn't inherently important to anything. It's what the leaders and large organizations of these beings do that affect the greater plot.
+Time For Stealth Actually it is objective. There are definitions for words for a reason. The merriam webster dictionary defines demons as an evil spirit or sources of evil, pain, suffering, yadayada. That would seem good for your theory, but there is dialogue in the game saying Great Ones are compassionate by nature. Being evil according to merriam webster is to be morally reprehensable, which compation is not. Thus by definition they are not demons
Listen, whether you read this VaatiVidya I just want to thank you for the amount of time and work you put into your videos. I go back and watch all your videos but this one for some reason has to be my favorite. It's like you put an extra touch on it to make it flare in my soul. Bloodborne has become my favorite game and I love listening to any back story or life explained and having you break down the story is simply great. You are a great man. You simply never fail to go above and beyond with anything you do as a RUclipsr. So truly thank you. Not only for this but for every video that you take the time out of your day to make for us to watch each day. Well I guess I'll see you in your next video. Maybe one day I can ring my bell and have you come to my aid in the nightmare of mensis. Until then my friend.
+Akizzu was it fighting the demented horse in the pool of hundreds of living corpses blood? Or the orphan of an eldrich being climbing out and using its placenta to pummel you to death? Something else perhaps?
+marinescu0511 i'm just sad that i cant' use all these great new weapons since my character is skill based ;__; but i love the Rakuyo. its my favorite wp after blade of mercy and the cane
+marinescu0511 You do. I mean. (Twin) Blood Stone Shards shouldn't be a problem at this point, and even if they are, you can buy them. Both for Insight and Echoes. The DLC constantly throws Chunks at you, and they even put a Blood Rock in there, which you could only get once in the normal game.
is it just me or the meeting with villager is a very emotional encounter. It is truly an extraordinary set-piece by FromSoft and serves as testament to their mastery over storytelling.
Hey, Vatti! The lake of mud is also mentioned by Micolash before the DLC even came out. He says, " The grand lake of mud, hidden now, from sight." Could Micolash have something to do with the hunter's nightmare?
+Templar388z omggg... now it makes sense. at first i didn't get what that part really meant. i could only understand that grant us eyes part, after that it blurred so much it's like he's chanting nonsense.
ChromatiKosm it is more likely a reference to a Japanese manga called the thing that drifted ashore, where a strange giant fish like creature (kos) washed up ashore and contained people that went lost at sea, still alive but insane (the orphan)
Lucas Lucas it can be a reference to more than one thing at a time, but yours seems more likely. after all, guts was born of a hanged woman in a gallows tree, not on a shoreline.
It could also be connected to the demon child, whose mother Casca was also completely defiled prior to it's birth in the rain, resulting in its initially mutated and hideous appearance and haunting of Guts in his nightmares. Definitely not as angry though, but it's devotion to Casca, who is often associated to water by Guts, should be noted.
Dude I really appreciate your work! Had this game for 5 years and never finished it. But after finding your channel and understanding all these lores made me replay it from the beginning and now I am on the last boss of the DLC. It really showed me how beautiful the game actually was. Thanks!
Thanks VaatiVidya for again an excellent video. I've played bloodborne and finished the DLC a few times but every time i watch your video it still amaze me that im still learning alot from how much knowledge you have about very small small detail of the game that no one would notice. (not me for sure) how you connect this dots , small image to a small dialogue just blows my mind. i could imagine that you are more than impressed about Bloodborne or the Souls franchise. all other game must be just too simple and boring for you now.. coz even with my shallow understanding of the game and lore it already turn me into a person that compare all other games to bloodborne or daRK Souls.. sorry abit long guys. just want to give this guy praise and to the community of bloodborneDarkSOuls community.
@@wallacesousuke1433 Im excited for Sekiro but man I hope Bloodborne will return. I just have a gut feeling its either never gonna return or may be the first exclusive announced for PS5 but made by a different studio. Idk but it feels hopeless right now for any Soulsborne game. Hard to let go of the games that have it all!
IMO, the Nightmares are layered, just as you said Vaati. They're all connected to each other too. I believe that the Chalice Dungeons are the lowest layer, the main game world( everything from Central Yharnam to Yhargul the Unseen Village) are one layer above the Chalice Dungeons. And then above that, is the Nightmare Frontier, the Lecture Building and the Nightmare of Mensis, I believe that the DLC takes place on this same layer, just look at the sky box and all of the Skull-shaped rocks and you'll see what I mean. If this ''Layered'' theory is true, then I think it's SO DAMN cool that From Soft expresses this through the use of Verticality in the general Level Design of the entire game. The ''Cosmos'' refers to a layer of the nightmare that is so high that it could be considered to be outer-space, it is also where the Great Ones originated, and is where they descend from. ''Kos'', with a K, is possibly a Great One as you said Vaati. Now, I say all of that to say this - I believe that Maria IS the Doll, and the Orphan IS Gerhman. This is how they exist in this layer of the nightmare in the same way that Vicar Amelia is seen to be different in this layer. I also believe that the ''Eye Pendent'' is the exact same thing as the ''Golden Pendent'' that Vicar Amelia drops in her boss fight, it's just that, in this layer, the Golden Pendent is in fact an Eye Pendent. Now this comment could get extremely long pointing out all of the things that are the same, but different, in different layers of the nightmare, but you should get the point :-) These are my own personal thoughts, I do not claim them to be cannon. This is just the way that I have interpreted the game.
Simon's Bowblade is my favorite weapon in any Fromsoft game, it makes me wish there was a parallel to it in Elden Ring. Bloodtinge is so fun and the trick of the bowblade is so unique. I miss it very much, I miss Bloodborne
I thought that Burial Blade was my weapon of choice, and used it for a long time, but then I found Simon's Bowblade. And that's it. I think I dropped the scythe in some well or sth. I don't remember.
+KitDragonFlight i dont have bloodborne yet but when i do (and its gonna be soon) my main will be the chikage...i just have a thing for cursed swords....and a "katana" at that :D
+Rigel_6 I was using Simon's Bowblade in PVP and it was the first time I have done PVP. Won 5 out of 5 fights just spamming arrows..so new flavor of the month coming up just saying.
+Rigel_6 Simons bow blade is more op than chikage .I pvp a lot. A lot of the newer weapons are op Chikage was op but it drains the users health pretty fast and left them open when changing forms
Sound like an homage to "Shadow Over Innsmouth" by HP Lovecraft, part of the Cthulhu mythos. A visitor tours an old fishing town he was advised to stay away from. After not seeing anyone, and the few young people he did see giving him a start with their frightening visage, he felt very eerie about being in the town. The people all had a peculiar, fish-like appearance and smell to them. After learning the story of how a lone captain befriended a strange tribe out on a remote island, he discovers that him leaving the town is not an option to the natives there. Eventually he escapes after learning more horrible truths about Innsmouth and the fish-people there.
My weapon has and always will be the “Moonlight, The Holy Moon, DarkMoon Greatsword” i always loved INT builds and making them physical attackers is amazing to me
It may be a bit boring, but the Hunter Axe will always have a special place in my heart. For not only being the first weapon I ever used, but also being the first weapon I beat the game with.
Every replay, I have a hard time not making myself a boilerplate are boy like I did my first play through. The original spin to win. Most utility weapon in the game for me.
That part at the end where you said you wanted to take your time making quality videos on the lore earned an immediate subscription from me man. Love these games and your content somehow makes them even better by complementing their detail and spectacle. So glad you can go full time with it.
I would recommend reading "The Shadow over Innsmouth" by H.P. Lovecraft, which for me seems to be the inspiration for the Fishing Hamlet. It might offer some Insight...
+prayer1337 Yeah I intend to, I read the synopsis the other day because I heard it was related to this area. Definitely seems worth it. Reading the inspiration should really help understand the lore too
+VaatiVidya Ever noticed the similarity between Orphan of Kos and The One Reborn? Curious ain't it? Micolash was also trying to contact Kos. But if Kos was dead, what is that big eyeball thingy which also resided in the nightmare, just what is it? How about Winter Lanterns and their multiple eyed heads? Connection to Fishing Hamlet and the Byrgenwerth violation? I think so, we see Winter Lanterns at Fishing Hamlet also.
+Araghast The Pillager You could look at it in several ways. It could be a poorly executed attempt to create a Great One, given that Great One's ascend their own kind to the next stage (to use in game terms, still not certain what that means myself), so it's not difficult to believe that weaving thousands of corpses with magic from the Great One's would make one, at least from their point of view. We also still don't know the exact process for Great One's to come about, all we really do know is that human's can give birth to one, as seen with Yharnam and Adeline, and that you can turn into a larva of one by consuming what amounts to a whole umbilical cord while never actually showing you the process. The One Reborn could be an attempt to make one by humans with the ability to channel Eldritch magic, or the Great Ones actually fusing humans who have offered themselves as sacrifices to make one. They are sympathetic in spirit, and answer when called upon. Could be that those sacrifices were pleading to be made into a Great One in order to either escape the beast blood, or their suffering. I've always thought of it as a failed Great One, though in what fashion I can't decide. What do you think?
+SuaatanaTube and +Umbreon Gamer It think you're both right. It does remind me of The One Reborn. I don't know the similarities, but I could think about the One Reborn being a desperate attempt of humans to make the Orphan of Kos into a great one. Like, fasten up the process it takes for it to become a great one. Has anyone already tried killing this thing first in NG and THEN encountering the One Reborn? Does it still show up? I still have an other thought of it. Maybe the Hunters Nightmare shows us the past and because the Orphan of Kos was killed in that past (maybe by Gehrman?). Then the Nightmare apostles and Micolash wanted to bring him back of some kind, f**ked up and here we have The One Reborn...?
i have a theory i wrote in spanish but im trying to put it in here Maybe the nightmare is in Gherman Dreams. point 1. The DLC is the nigthmare from gherman, in a part of the game we found him having a nightmare (i cant remeber his dialoge) when he is sleeping outside in the hunters dream. point 2. As far we know The doll and lady maria are conected, and gherman is the one who is in the middle, gherman designed the doll in image of maria because maybe maria is unrecheable for gherman coz she is in his nigthmare point 3. One of the few or only conection to the old hunters is gherman, he is the oldest hunter (with eileen) we found in our game, and he know the story of the healing church, brygewerth and all the stuff is happening, maybe gherman knew ludwig and all the hunter we found on the nigthmare. point 4. the acces of the DLC is only by getting grabbed by amygdala, i think the amygdalas are "creatures" that can go trhoug Dreams, and when we have then eye (droped in the hunters dream) she/he take us to the place of the one who dropped the item, gherman. point 5. Gherman was chosen by the moonligth presence to be the host of the "hunters dream" maybe also he is the host of the nigthmare.... Gherman have a lot of time without going out the Dream and he cant remeber yharnam too well, he can remember the awfull things that happend... The hunters hunting beasts, the experiments of the healing church, and the destruction of fishers hamlet. the bloodthirst hunter where sent to some place when they got into the madness, and if you cant go to the hunters dreams, maybe, you go into th hunters nigthmare I dunno i would love to hear an argumento (even if you say that is bullshit xD)
+jhonattan “GeShadow” camelo This was what I was thinking if in the "Hunter's" Dream we inhabit the dream conceived of by Gherman and sustained by The Moon Presence, would it not logically follow that in the "Hunter's" Nightmare the hunter in question is Gherman as well who has his nightmare sustained by the great one orphan of kos. Gherman would literally be having a nightmare within a nightmare. Since the meaning of the words nightmare and dream necessarily entail that there is one who is dreaming them, my interpretation is that these are worlds brought into existence through arcane power of Great One's and the memory of someone (Gherman in this case), however altered these memories are, as you said. Gherman was the first hunter, the one who has had his hand dipped in the first apocryphal sins all the way to the last, and he suffers for them being forced to have nightmares of his past misdeeds whilst sustaining the dream that continues his sins. It is all so clear why Gherman suffers so now.
After all these years I still yearn after an experience as good as Bloodborne. I love Sekiro to shreds, don't get me wrong but this game's themes, artstyle, music and gameplay is just built so astronomically different

+whitewyvernX Yessssss, let's make a Lovecraft Appreciation group for Bloodborne.

Except for the fact that H.P. Lovecraft was super fucking racist...
Vaati, for the love of Kos, get back on Bloodborne lore videos sooner or later.

I actually love this theory. Amelia always seemed wrong to me.

There's definitely a correlation between Gehrman and Kos.
adarg2 wouldn't he ascended into a great one like we did though ?
We kill many great ones over the course of the journey, but only through acquiring three cords did we ascend. Gehrman was not in possession of three.
Almost 4 years. 4 years I’ve been waiting for the Prepare to Cry Series to continue.

+Petrik Leo I sniped them with my bow-thingy. No, I do not regret this decision.

A rather late comment and I doubt you read these anymore Vaati but I'd just like to let you know how I always come back to this series. There's something about the way you present this DLC, along with the way you overlay Alex Roe's excellent soundtrack that's just tremendously appealing.
The child used its power to curse those that came and all of their descendants forever within its own dream turned nightmare.
that is really good man
+pkeod Wait!
Did the child not just get born after all the bad stuff happened?
Good comment but i thinkt the order of happenings in it are confusing.
+pkeod Happy endings, happy endings for everyoone.
So here, the scholars commited their first sin? Geddit?

"Eventually I just got good"
That is how this series goes. Only the patient survive.
+aimz210 Pretty sure she is from Cainhurst from what her attire and weapon implies, unless village has ties to Cainhurst.

+The God Emperor Myazaki and his eternal homenage to Berserk. Even in a Lovecraftian inspired setting like Bloodborne.
+The God Emperor I know right?! I don't even enjoy the manga all that much, but when he said the greatsword would be like guts, I was hyped.
Holy shit man your Videos are pure perfection, every of your videos is a Masterpiece
+Michael Koch Thanks Michael, that's nice of you to say.
+Arthur Blomme Doesn't really work...
Kos is clearly a great one of the sea and the One Reborn is birthed from the moon.
Arthur Blomme He is literally born from the shadow of the moon.
+VaatiVidya will you make a fourth part which you fight that flaming cleric beast(go back to the elevator and below it have the item you need to fight that boss) and demonstrate the effects of the kin transformation(use the kos parasite) and the beast transformation(the beast claw)?
+Arthur Blomme I think the Orphan is related to Gehrman because 1. the doll has a new dialogue after beating the Orphan and 2. there is a reddit thread for this theory which is awesome www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/comments/3v21r2/lore_the_orphan_of_kos_and_gehrman_thoughts_and/
The fishing village is probably somewhat based off of shadows over innsmouth with all the lovecraftian esque creatures
Everything in bloodborne is basically a love letter to lovecraft XD
Reminds me of Unit 731 and the history of Japanese scientists doing horrible experiments on humans.
I never played bloodborne but the levels I'm seeing are weirdly beautiful, the layered nightmare especially. Great video.
You should play it, it's an amazing game. I'm on my 3rd play thru.
Oh and here's some screenshots I took as evidence! imgur.com/a/majEi
+Crowned Heart Yes you're right, you can see Mergo's Loft from the Frontier (Vaati mentions this in his second 15 Insights video IIRC). Although as far as I know, you can't see the Frontier from the Loft?
+bauulben1 I think you can see the frontier from the mensis nightmare, not 100% sure but I think I recall seeing the lumpy cliffs below
Have you noticed the cry of the Orphan, it's the same as Gehrman in the Hunter's Dream pleading Willem or Laurence to unshackle him. Same whimper.
Good ears!
+Dragonzzilla And it's kinda sad that we can't pick up the Orphan's placenta as a weapon.
+wzx6x6z6w Sad? Don't see anything sad about that. Just a disappointment.
+Dragonzzilla that's... a really good point, actually. Wonder what caused that. Maybe it's because it was born (maybe even developed) in the hunter's nightmare?
+wzx6x6z6w Eww I don't wanna touch that shit. You nasty.
+wzx6x6z6w Bro. Listen to yourself. You just said you want to use something's *placenta* as a *weapon*.
He's too blood-crazed, guys. Gotta put him down.
Kos looks like the poison crawlers in the Nightmare Frontier.
+Key Smith They were probably her own personal "minion race" when she was still alive, similar to how Rom had all those little baby spiders to fight for her, or how the insight suckers and slugs are reminiscent of Ebrietas.
*****
Indeed, it'd lend a bit more credence to the idea of things "dropping" down through different layers of nightmare, though that'd mean the nightmare frontier is beneath the fishing hamlet not above it. Also I don't think that'd be a thing they had in mind when they first designed the squid enemies, other wise they probably would have included them in the dlc rather than the blood sucking bug things.
*****
well they're not demons, they're gods. But yeah, the Great Ones themselves can pretty much do anything, but the actually Kin creatures are very much bound by mortal limitations, they can do more things than humans can sure, but they're still limited in their capabilities.
*****
Not really though, not only are they refered to as gods in game, they're based off of elder gods from lovecraft, and their actual powers and abilities are those of deities, they create their own realms, they create entire races of beings, they answer prayers and can commune across planes, they are literally ascended to a higher plane of thought.
11:45
"are you going to kill me?"
*pulls out gun*
lol
The ending cutscene has me in tears every single time. Poor Orphan..
soooo.... what happened to those lore videos you talked about?
Now three almost 4 years Vaati, when does it come? Where are the lore videos?
April 2020 and I'm still waiting on Lady Maria's Prepare to Cry.
This DLC is just too god damn much for me.
+Akizzu was it fighting the demented horse in the pool of hundreds of living corpses blood? Or the orphan of an eldrich being climbing out and using its placenta to pummel you to death? Something else perhaps?
+VaatiVidya Living Failures. Definitely Living Failures.
+VaatiVidya Im sure it was the fact that you get all these awesome weapons, and not nearly enough resources to max out even one T_T
Your not alone
Is this a troll comment?
Zois Antonopoulos Yeah it was a bit over the top lol. Its just an NPC talking.
"Deep Sea" "Eldritch"
"Aldrich's dream of a deep sea" hmmmmm
I hope that in secret they're making Bloodborne 2 or more DLC.
+Jared Spurlock actuelly ive been looking for "hints"or announcements and from has been tipping about bloodborne 2 i so hope this is true..
why? bloodborne is fine
Over 1000 hours of mixed PvE and PvP on BB bud. Gets boring after a bit.
I just don't see why there needs to be a second or more dlc, let the game die at its greatness not milk the series or it'll turn in assassins creed
+Domhall OfZena Bloodborne 2 will most likely be better. If they're secretly making it that is. I just hope for a PvP arena.
I think the orphan's birth is a reference to Guts's birth in Berserk
ChromatiKosm potentially. It is possible with how much FromSoftware makes berserk references in the Souls games.

Thanks!
I miss the bloodborne videos. Please bring more of the lore for this game. I didn't care much for ds3, this is what I wanted.
Bloodborne world and story is much better and cooler than DS
Sure thing buddy.
hey vaati, time to charge the batteries for your ps4
November 2020 and still waiting for that Lady Maria Prepare to Cry
Who wants bloodborne 2 cause i do
small 5 I heard something about bloodborne 2 being in development maybe being released 2018 or 2019 I hope it's true
Joe Duffy Sekiro....
Hard to let go of the games that have it all!
small 5 I heard somewhere that From doesn’t want to do a Bloodborne 2 but I’m not sure if it’s true or not
bloodborne 2 will be on ps5 on day 1
A year later, we're still waiting.
Vaati pls!
Lt. Mogar another year mate
Another year..
And still..
Nothing
I shall always use the Beast Claws, now more than ever
+Major Monotone true that. Beast Claws are my baby.
+Feisty Fellow Wolverine build, haha.
you know it, bro
Beast Claws with fire paper = Laurance
+Major Monotone You, I like you. It is where most end up, after all. So why not willingly embrace the beast inside?
Please, i need the prepare to cry of this game. Have mercy on my soul...... I check this weekly for updates. ;~;
Now this comment could get extremely long pointing out all of the things that are the same, but different, in different layers of the nightmare, but you should get the point :-)
These are my own personal thoughts, I do not claim them to be cannon. This is just the way that I have interpreted the game.
"I'll stop talking about the lore"
Me: "who told you to stop!?"
My favorite weapon is the gigantic silly buzz saw.
I know...I haven't gotten the burial blade yet, been using ludwig's but that scimitar...oh boy.
+KitDragonFlight i dont have bloodborne yet but when i do (and its gonna be soon) my main will be the chikage...i just have a thing for cursed swords....and a "katana" at that :D
+Spectre I don't really approve, but eh, suit yourself. Just please don't be one of those people that go avelyn + bone marrow ash.
Yes, I do think that that was one major source of inspiration. I mean, the whole story of Bloodborne rests upon Lovecrafts ideas.
Prepare to cry when?
It's been 8 years
My weapon has and always will be the “Moonlight, The Holy Moon, DarkMoon Greatsword” i always loved INT builds and making them physical attackers is amazing to me
It may be a bit boring, but the Hunter Axe will always have a special place in my heart. For not only being the first weapon I ever used, but also being the first weapon I beat the game with.
Every replay, I have a hard time not making myself a boilerplate are boy like I did my first play through. The original spin to win. Most utility weapon in the game for me.
My weapon? The Beastcutter also known as the Amygdala Rapist, the Smacky Flail from afar, the Smackdown or the Badass Relative of the Threaded Cane
+Harvey Kent that weapon is awesome as FUCK
+Harvey Kent smacky flail from afar XD
+Harvey Kent or also known as Zabimaru
+AVicious Hunter you mean Zabimaru?
Killer97 Yeah, sorry. Been a while since I watched Bleach. I would also call it the ''Can't touch me''.
ITS BEEN SIX YEARS VAATI I WANT THAT "PREPARE TO CRY"
That part at the end where you said you wanted to take your time making quality videos on the lore earned an immediate subscription from me man. Love these games and your content somehow makes them even better by complementing their detail and spectacle. So glad you can go full time with it.
I would recommend reading "The Shadow over Innsmouth" by H.P. Lovecraft, which for me seems to be the inspiration for the Fishing Hamlet. It might offer some Insight...
+prayer1337 Yeah I intend to, I read the synopsis the other day because I heard it was related to this area. Definitely seems worth it. Reading the inspiration should really help understand the lore too
+VaatiVidya
Ever noticed the similarity between Orphan of Kos and The One Reborn?
Curious ain't it?
Micolash was also trying to contact Kos. But if Kos was dead, what is that big eyeball thingy which also resided in the nightmare, just what is it? How about Winter Lanterns and their multiple eyed heads? Connection to Fishing Hamlet and the Byrgenwerth violation? I think so, we see Winter Lanterns at Fishing Hamlet also.
+SuaatanaTube I still have no fucking idea what The One Reborn is despite looking at all of Vaati's videos...
+SuaatanaTube and +Umbreon Gamer
It think you're both right.
Then the Nightmare apostles and Micolash wanted to bring him back of some kind, f**ked up and here we have The One Reborn...?
i have a theory i wrote in spanish but im trying to put it in here
Maybe the nightmare is in Gherman Dreams.
point 1. The DLC is the nigthmare from gherman, in a part of the game we found him having a nightmare (i cant remeber his dialoge) when he is sleeping outside in the hunters dream.
point 2. As far we know The doll and lady maria are conected, and gherman is the one who is in the middle, gherman designed the doll in image of maria because maybe maria is unrecheable for gherman coz she is in his nigthmare
point 3.
The hunters hunting beasts, the experiments of the healing church, and the destruction of fishers hamlet. the bloodthirst hunter where sent to some place when they got into the madness, and if you cant go to the hunters dreams, maybe, you go into th hunters nigthmare
I dunno i would love to hear an argumento (even if you say that is bullshit xD)
"It will have to wait for prepare to cry." 3 years later: ...LIAR!
After all these years I still yearn after an experience as good as Bloodborne. I love Sekiro to shreds, don't get me wrong but this game's themes, artstyle, music and gameplay is just built so astronomically different
Yamamura has another line of dialogue, if you get killed by the churchpick hunter.
Edit: This is wrong. Actually it belongs to Brador, the hunter with the Bloodletter.
+Kommen Tier Wait, really? That's the trigger? That's curious.
+VaatiVidya He says something everytime you die near him, regardless how it happens.
+TommyGuy1111 Hmm, I watched Peeve's stream and he only said something when Peeve got killed by the other hunter.
+VaatiVidya it's not Yamamuras dialogue, it's Bradors.
+Kommen Tier Pretty sure that's Brador's dialogue and it usually occurs when you die near him.
