Hi Dan, if you're still curious about the small glass of sparkling water served with your coffee, it's meant to cleanse the palate from whatever you had before (Brazilians often enjoy coffee after a big meal). This helps you fully appreciate the flavour of the coffee! I hope you had a great time in my hometown. Greetings from Toronto!

Brazil is one of the most digitalized societies in terms of payment. Almost anyone uses cash anymore. Only older people in remote towns. Everyone uses an electronic payment system called PIX, which was developed by Brazil's Central Bank
I am Brazilian and I know they can be both, there are nice people, but also some toxic or obnoxious people (especially depending on where you are. Say, at a trendy LGBT club you will see the most stuck up and obnoxious people in your life Lol). But yes, Sao Paulo is not like North America. In North America a total stranger would never talk to you or befriend you, unless they are homeless and want to ask you for money. In Sao Paulo, it's also not that frequent (as of late I noticed they've become a little colder than they used to, after spending 5 years in Canada and 10 in the USA), but at times total strangers will try to befriend you or reach out to you. I like it at times, but at times it bothers me Lol. Loneliness in Sao Paulo is much less common than in North America.
Hello Dan, Thanks for bringing the world to RUclips viewers. You are very respectful to everyone you meet and every city you visit. Some people who make videos like to be rude or break the rules in order to get more clicks. One guy got kicked out of Japan for making a lot of noise on the train. Security asked you not to film , so you didn't. You also included different religions and cultures even if you don't follow or do the same thing in your personal life. For example, if you are in Paris, you might interview a man from Morocco and get some insight into his life. Keep up the good work.
i really think sao paulo is a beautiful city! people who lives there are always complaining cuz they seem to think their city is ugly or sumn but there's no other city like sao paulo in brazil, i always get amazed when i'm there! even in the favelas there are cool things to see n learn about
Well, those are just the upscale parts of Sao Paulo, the poor side of town can be very depressing (and very depressing to live in too). I am from Brazil, have lived in both the US and in Canada, and I can tell you. Yes, for the rich (which by all means not all Brazilians are) you can have a wonderful life in Sao Paulo. But it's a very expensive city by Brazilian standards (pays are low in Brazil, at least in dollar), not everybody can afford to live in those fancy residential buildings that he showed (though he didn't touch upon some luxury residential towers that can be seen in the background). You have apartments with 1000 m^2, 2000 m^2, you think Brazilians can afford that? Not at all. North Americans on the other hand could if they wanted, since they make their money in dollars. I had to leave Brazil to make more money in the US (and initially in Canada). If I had money in Brazil I would never ever do that bc living abroad can lead to loneliness and alienation, but I had no choice, it's very hard to build wealth in Brazil just upon a job's income, even if you have a degree.
they don't think the city is ugly at all, they know some parts of the city (such as the favelas and the old downtown) are ugly, but they know Avenida Paulista (and a lot of other areas) are very fancy.

Hello man! I’m from São Paulo and it is nice to see u exploring the city! The hospital that you show in the beginning shows the history of medicine through this wall with these engraved 😊 and this curve building is the Torre Paulista Building, it was one of the first large commercial buildings in Paulista. It was inaugurated in 1972 and is an icon of the time, in which the country's economy grew a lot and the character of Paulista began to change definitively to a commercial area, replacing the mansions with the buildings. The mall you passed by a few times called Cidade São Paulo is relatively new. The space used to be a mansion of the Matarazzo family, which is a rich family of Italian origin that migrated to Brazil many years ago and own many enterprises in São Paulo. Hope u enjoy your stay here in SP city, if u need some help or tips, let me know. I’m a tour guide here I would be glad to help 😊
Nice vídeo! But when you order a coffee and you will receive that little cup of water, it is actually sparkling water and it helps cleanse the palate before and after drinking coffee, allowing you to better appreciate the coffee's complex flavors. This tradition also helps with hydration, since coffee has a mild diuretic effect. Additionally, the carbonation can help neutralize any acidic aftertaste from the coffee. Brazilian here.
You're welcome to the craziest Brazilian city, a mix of emotions for us that lives in this city since our first days.... total mixture of Brazilians, from South to North and Northeast reagions of our country, as immigrants too (italians, spanish, portuguese, japanese, libanese, others) that make this city never stops. 12 million only in this city, almost 20 million in metropolitan region, and we love and hate it at sametime, but we never desist of it. Have great days here!
Very nice and respectful video about SP. Whenever I watch videos like this, I often find myself waiting for the RUclipsrs to drop some stereotypes and misconceptions. Not this case.
So nice to see your POV in the city I was born and raised! Hope you had a great time there Dan! BTW, the curved building is supposed to be the new Hard Rock hotel in Sao Paulo, not sure when it's going to be built though, cheers bro!

While you were filming that helicopter some guy going by next to you said in Portuguese "he's going to get mugged" 😂. It's always a good idea to keep on your toes and remain aware of your surroundings while in São Paulo.
6:40 *The formerly Sumitomo Bank building, it's such a pity that it's abandoned and even the broken windows is very unexpected for a building that used to be very cool in the 80's to 90's. Most Avenida Paulista businesses hire 24 h guards to keep vandals from tagging buildings, but it seems the former leasers of Sumitomo may have gone out of business and the landlord wasn't able to rent to anybody else. Because this is Avenida Paulista, which is a very expensive address, probably it will be sold and imploded to make room for a new high-rise soon. Or renovated.*
I live behind this Avenida Paulista and I was amazed by how naturally you walk with that expensive camera! I don’t know if it’s naivety or if you have a team following you behind! That area is full of thieves, pickpockets, etc. I don’t have the courage to take my phone out to check a message on this avenue haha. But congratulations, the video turned out great!
Hi! Right across the Japan House there is another cultural center called Casa das Rosas an old mansion from the early 20th century. A very interesting place to get an idea of how the avenue used to look like almost 100 years ago. The best ramen and near Avenida Paulista is Jojo Ramen, Aska is so so... Oh, by the way the abandoned building with graffiti was announced some years ago as a future Hard Rock Hotel but nothing happened ever since.
sorry but I had to point it out HELLO in Portuguese isn’t hola like in Spanish hello in Portuguese is OLÁ with an emphasis on the last letter A due to its accent mark so Spanish: HOla (emphasis on the first syllable) Portuguese: olÁ (emphasis on the last letter) please 🙏🏻
hey My friend! Welcome to São Paulo, I remember when you first visit Rio, BH and Iguazu falls if i am not mistaken... I wish i give you a great hug to welcome you again! This water it is a small glass of sparkling water that we Paulistas use to drink before coffee... it is said that sparkling water enhance the flavours of coffee
São Paulo is the city with the most helicopters on earth, with 2,200 landings a day. Their traffic is so heavy that we're the only city with traffic control specifically for them. .
São Paulo: almost 13 million inhabitants (center), +23.5 million (39 municipalities) and almost 35 million (extended metropolis of São Paulo) State of São Paulo: almost 47 million inhabitants
*Acumulei um total de 89 mil hoje. Estou verdadeiramente grato por todo o conhecimento e informação que você me deu nas últimas semanas. Comecei com 5 mil há 2 meses.*
1:45 At the top of that building there's a museum you should definitely check. The last time I visited São Paulo I really liked it. EDIT: Next to it (the glass building to the left) there's a glass balcony that overlooks the avenue - it's a popular tourist attraction.
Man, your Canadian accent is absolutely familiar to me from the 5 years I spent living in Canada. You sound very much like a guy I used to know in Toronto Lol
*Wow, I can't believe he didn't figure what the sparkling water is for. I think the sparkling water is for you to be able to taste the coffee better. First you drink it, and then the coffee. I usually don't like sparkling water, but since it's just a little sample it's fine*
That water was sparkling water and it helps neutralize the palate as it effectively clears the taste buds so that you can have your coffee without lingering flavors. This is not something for foreigners
The water is to hydrate the mouth, which will naturally reduce the bitterness of the coffee and thus prepare the taste buds to receive the aromas of the drink more accurately.
I am from Brasil , and I hope u enjoyed São Paulo. Please be aware of thieves on the street. Especially when walking around with mobiles phones , just a reminder. ❤❤❤❤❤
It's really funny that you were talking about Brasil being different from Canada mentioning beaches and forests when you're at São Paulo (which is also a very nice city, of course). You should come to Bahia. Nice beaches, Salvador is very historical and we have mata atlântica also
Few foreigners know that 90 minutes from the city you can find very nice beaches, and 2 hours away some gorgeous ones in the middle of nature. The way there is also beautiful.
5:33 This curved building has been unoccupied for a few years. He was being prepared to receive the Hard Rock Hotel, but with the pandemic this has changed and remains out of use.
*Funny fact: even though this part of Sao Paulo looks very cool and modern, it's nothing compared to Marginal Pinheiros. Marginal Pinheiros puts 99.99% of the USA to shame. But it's not pedestrian friendly as Avenida Paulista and it's only busy during business days. Go check it out.*
Cloudy skies are quite common in São Paulo, This probably contributes to the stereotype that the city is "gray". I think coastal cities have sunny skies more often.
you should go to Paulista Avenue on Sundays 🐢but take care with your camera/smartphone, especially if you see someone approaching you in a motorcycle or a bike
If you wanna know more about Japanese culture in São Paulo, as well as Chinese and Korean culture, go to the Liberdade neighborhood. It's close to Avenida Paulista. Just get off at Liberdade subway station. The main street is Galvão Bueno. It's very busy there on the weekends.

In area NY is about half the size of Sao Paulo, with the 5 boroughs being roughly 700 km^2 and SP roughly 1500 km^2.

Bem vindo de volta
sorry but I had to point it out
HELLO in Portuguese isn’t hola like in Spanish
hello in Portuguese is OLÁ with an emphasis on the last letter A due to its accent mark
so Spanish: HOla (emphasis on the first syllable)
Portuguese: olÁ (emphasis on the last letter)
please 🙏🏻
Very true
BEM VINDO A SÃO PAULO!!!
Great video! Brazil actually has the largest Japanese population second only to Japan itself!
So nice.
hey My friend!
Their traffic is so heavy that we're the only city with traffic control specifically for them. .
São Paulo: almost 13 million inhabitants (center), +23.5 million (39 municipalities) and almost 35 million (extended metropolis of São Paulo)
State of São Paulo: almost 47 million inhabitants
welcome to my city ❤️🇧🇷
I heard the helicopter, so I believe you 😂😂

1:45 At the top of that building there's a museum you should definitely check. The last time I visited São Paulo I really liked it. EDIT: Next to it (the glass building to the left) there's a glass balcony that overlooks the avenue - it's a popular tourist attraction.
Japan House is just an art museum, the actual Japanese immigration history museum is in the Liberdade neighbourhood.
an art museum AND a very expensive shop, I went there twice and both times was shocked at the prices of the stuff sold there
Boy, I was on that bus, in Paulista! You didn't even see me.
Top video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Man, your Canadian accent is absolutely familiar to me from the 5 years I spent living in Canada. You sound very much like a guy I used to know in Toronto Lol
The sparkling water is what u should drink to "wash" your mouth before the coffee so u can feel the taste better ;)
🐢 comme d'habitude, jusqu’à la fin
Welcome to Brazil! Enjoy São Paulo 🤙
Brasil 🇧🇷
BRAZIL 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 🇧🇷 SÃO PAULO
The sparkling water served with a coffee is to "clean" your taste (tongue) and prepare to enjoy all the flavors of a coffee.
Welcome to my country. 😊
🐢 Lamen is how everybody in Brazil calls those noodles. When Nissin brought it to Brazil the national comercial said Nissin Miojo Lamen. 🎶
10:06
the guy behind you said "He's gonna be robbed"
Exactly! "Wanna get robbed?"
Comentário nada a ver do cara...
@@zirtyb10sim.
🐢🐢🐢
And yes we really use cards/digital transfers a lot!
It's really funny that you were talking about Brasil being different from Canada mentioning beaches and forests when you're at São Paulo (which is also a very nice city, of course). You should come to Bahia. Nice beaches, Salvador is very historical and we have mata atlântica also
I'm an hour by plane from São Paulo. It's a very interesting city, I've been there many times. But there is always the problem of insecurity.
Few foreigners know that 90 minutes from the city you can find very nice beaches, and 2 hours away some gorgeous ones in the middle of nature. The way there is also beautiful.
O caminho para o mar já é um deslumbre da natureza e de arquitetura. Via Anchieta, Rodovia dos Imigrantes, Tamoios...
Come to Santos. We're on the coast and less than an hour from São Paulo.
Welcome to Brasil, I watch your videos to improve my english
Welcome!!!!
São Paulo actually has the largest concentration of Japanese inhabitants outside of Japan.
It seems like sparkling water. I don’t know why they give it to people. I’ve been to SP for several times and it is common. I wonder why
Hi Dan, Brazil is great but when are you coming to Buenos Aires?
Cloudy skies are quite common in São Paulo, This probably contributes to the stereotype that the city is "gray". I think coastal cities have sunny skies more often.
you should go to Paulista Avenue on Sundays 🐢but take care with your camera/smartphone, especially if you see someone approaching you in a motorcycle or a bike
Vc vai se admirar ficar Aki 🇧🇷🇧🇷
If you wanna know more about Japanese culture in São Paulo, as well as Chinese and Korean culture, go to the Liberdade neighborhood. It's close to Avenida Paulista. Just get off at Liberdade subway station. The main street is Galvão Bueno. It's very busy there on the weekends.
