Hi Dan, if you're still curious about the small glass of sparkling water served with your coffee, it's meant to cleanse the palate from whatever you had before (Brazilians often enjoy coffee after a big meal). This helps you fully appreciate the flavour of the coffee! I hope you had a great time in my hometown. Greetings from Toronto!

I am Brazilian and I know they can be both, there are nice people, but also some toxic or obnoxious people (especially depending on where you are. Say, at a trendy LGBT club you will see the most stuck up and obnoxious people in your life Lol). But yes, Sao Paulo is not like North America. In North America a total stranger would never talk to you or befriend you, unless they are homeless and want to ask you for money. In Sao Paulo, it's also not that frequent (as of late I noticed they've become a little colder than they used to be, after spending 5 years in Canada and 10 in the USA). But at times total strangers will try to befriend you or reach out to you. I like it at times, but at times it bothers me Lol. Loneliness in Sao Paulo is much less common than in North America.
Interesting. I can see as Brazilian living abroad why you say that, how to you perceive the urban violence and general insecurity feeling on the streets though?

I am from Brazil, have lived in both the US and in Canada, and I can tell you. Yes, for the rich (which by all means not all Brazilians are) you can have a wonderful life in Sao Paulo. But it's a very expensive city by Brazilian standards (pays are very low in Brazil, even more in dollar), not everybody can afford to live in those fancy residential buildings that he showed (though he didn't touch upon some luxury residential towers that can be seen in the background). You have apartments with 1000 m^2, 2000 m^2, you think Brazilians can afford that? Not at all. North Americans on the other hand could if they wanted, since they make their money in dollars. I had to leave Brazil to make more money in the US (and initially in Canada). If I had money in Brazil I would never ever do that bc living abroad can lead to loneliness and alienation, but I had no choice, it's very hard to build wealth in Brazil just upon a job's income, even if you have a degree.

I hope you're having a blast here in Brazil. São Paulo is my favorite City ever and even though you must be careful when you're out and about since you can be robbed I've got to say I've been there a lot of times throughout my life and never experienced anything bad ( Thank God 🙏😊) So, just say a prayer and enjoy your life, my friend! Btw, you must definitely visit the Northeast region, especially the one and only "Lençóis Maranhenses" in the Estate of Maranhão, a breathtaking scenario full of dunes and natural pools. When it comes to our "cuisine," you should taste our"feijoada" and have a pizza in the "Bexiga" district. Also, go the "Beco do Batman", an interesting and unique place. I bet you'll like it. Enjoy your stay and always check back 😉
To be honest, SP is actually quite safe. What is not uncommon is the snapping-your-cellphone-out-of-your-hands-and-running-away thing, which is petty robbery and to be honest it's more agressive, pickpocketing is quite common in many big developed cities these days. Nevertheless, Me and all of my friends never had any problem there. Not even the cellphone bit. But people there are always advising against flashing your phone so I believed them.
I just loved your video, such smooth and 'simple' content, you know. Also, considering the fact that you're in my city and recording on Av. Paulista, where I work every day, makes it even better. Enjoy the city

8:00 About the unique Brazilian spelling of the word LAMEN, if it was written as "RAMEN", Brazilians would pronounce it "hamen", that's why LAMEN sounds closer to the original pronunciation. By the way, the Japanese word RAMEN was borrowed by the Chinese "LAMIAN"
Welcome to my city, mate! I hope you have an incredible time here and enjoy the museums, the food, and our great bars and clubs. Just two hours from São Paulo, there’s a beautiful island called Ilha Bela, with an amazing vibe and atmosphere. It’s truly a pleasure for us to have people like you capturing the essence of our city. Thank you for that!
Hello man! I’m from São Paulo and it is nice to see u exploring the city! The hospital that you show in the beginning shows the history of medicine through this wall with these engraved 😊 and this curve building is the Torre Paulista Building, it was one of the first large commercial buildings in Paulista. It was inaugurated in 1972 and is an icon of the time, in which the country's economy grew a lot and the character of Paulista began to change definitively to a commercial area, replacing the mansions with the buildings. The mall you passed by a few times called Cidade São Paulo is relatively new. The space used to be a mansion of the Matarazzo family, which is a rich family of Italian origin that migrated to Brazil many years ago and own many enterprises in São Paulo. Hope u enjoy your stay here in SP city, if u need some help or tips, let me know. I’m a tour guide here I would be glad to help 😊
I live behind this Avenida Paulista and I was amazed by how naturally you walk with that expensive camera! I don’t know if it’s naivety or if you have a team following you behind! That area is full of thieves, pickpockets, etc. I don’t have the courage to take my phone out to check a message on this avenue haha. But congratulations, the video turned out great!
Very nice and respectful video about SP. Whenever I watch videos like this, I often find myself waiting for the RUclipsrs to drop some stereotypes and misconceptions. Not this case.
Nice vídeo! But when you order a coffee and you will receive that little cup of water, it is actually sparkling water and it helps cleanse the palate before and after drinking coffee, allowing you to better appreciate the coffee's complex flavors. This tradition also helps with hydration, since coffee has a mild diuretic effect. Additionally, the carbonation can help neutralize any acidic aftertaste from the coffee. Brazilian here.
6:33 I went to Paulista several times (born and raise in Sao Paulo) and NEVER, EVER have notice this building.... I'm ashemed of myself 😢 Nice video btw, let's hangout someday there is a lot of parks and places outside of the city center (Paranapiacaba is one of my favorites)
About the sparkling water that comes with the coffee: we usually use that with espressos, whenever we want to clear up the taste in our mouth before drinking the coffee and actually feel what it tastes like. However, not many people usually do this anyways. 🐢
While you were filming that helicopter some guy going by next to you said in Portuguese "he's going to get mugged" 😂. It's always a good idea to keep on your toes and remain aware of your surroundings while in São Paulo.
1:45 At the top of that building there's a museum you should definitely check. The last time I visited São Paulo I really liked it. EDIT: Next to it (the glass building to the left) there's a glass balcony that overlooks the avenue - it's a popular tourist attraction.
The tiny cup of water is sparkling water! It is often used to clear ur taste; It's normally served with black small shots of coffee but some establishments got used on serving it with all kinds of coffee
Hi! Right across the Japan House there is another cultural center called Casa das Rosas an old mansion from the early 20th century. A very interesting place to get an idea of how the avenue used to look like almost 100 years ago. The best ramen and near Avenida Paulista is Jojo Ramen, Aska is so so... Oh, by the way the abandoned building with graffiti was announced some years ago as a future Hard Rock Hotel but nothing happened ever since.
Portuguese and Spanish are similar, and Portuguese speakers understand Spanish more easily than Spanish speakers understand Portuguese. Speaking Spanish is not an insult, it’s an attempt to make communication easier.
@@Siiv8sisiciisssiei-nt47w7d7I agree with you, we Brazilians do not feel offended if a foreign tourist speaks Spanish, they are similar languages derived from Latin.
So nice to see your POV in the city I was born and raised! Hope you had a great time there Dan! BTW, the curved building is supposed to be the new Hard Rock hotel in Sao Paulo, not sure when it's going to be built though, cheers bro!
that fancy Mcdonalds is the 1000th location in Brazil. and they are called in slang as Mequi. that one is built inside a renovated very old mansion house
hey My friend! Welcome to São Paulo, I remember when you first visit Rio, BH and Iguazu falls if i am not mistaken... I wish i give you a great hug to welcome you again! This water it is a small glass of sparkling water that we Paulistas use to drink before coffee... it is said that sparkling water enhance the flavours of coffee
At 4:57, the security guard probably did not let you film because usually in this shop there are stores with electronic products (usually from Apple) that were not imported properly into Brazil haha
I did not expect them to ask you stop recording at the gallery, but I can imagine why. That building is basically full of shops from chinese families that sell electronics for a very cheap price. Not sure of the origin of all the products they sell there, but some (again, not all of them, but some) seem very sketchy.
Man, your Canadian accent is absolutely familiar to me from the 5 years I spent living in Canada. You sound very much like a guy I used to know in Toronto Lol
sorry but I had to point it out HELLO in Portuguese isn’t hola like in Spanish hello in Portuguese is OLÁ with an emphasis on the last letter A due to its accent mark so Spanish: HOla (emphasis on the first syllable) Portuguese: olÁ (emphasis on the last letter) please 🙏🏻
6:40 *The formerly Sumitomo Bank building, it's such a pity that it's abandoned and even the broken windows is very unexpected for a building that used to be very cool in the 80's to 90's. Most Avenida Paulista businesses hire 24 h guards to keep vandals from tagging buildings, but it seems the former leasers of Sumitomo may have gone out of business and the landlord wasn't able to rent to anybody else. Because this is Avenida Paulista, which is a very expensive address, probably it will be sold and imploded to make room for a new high-rise soon. Or renovated.*
Come to Minas Gerais, the best food in Brazil! Some tips: btw: sparkling water served with coffee is to help cleanse the flavor on your tongue so you can enjoy it again as if you were drinking it the first time.
One tip: if you visit Avenida Paulista on Sunday you're gonna have a whole different experience. On Sundays they close the street for cars and there are all sorts of artistic shows and performances throughout the street.
It's really funny that you were talking about Brasil being different from Canada mentioning beaches and forests when you're at São Paulo (which is also a very nice city, of course). You should come to Bahia. Nice beaches, Salvador is very historical and we have mata atlântica also
*Wow, I can't believe he didn't figure what the sparkling water is for. I think the sparkling water is for you to be able to taste the coffee better. First you drink it, and then the coffee. I usually don't like sparkling water, but since it's just a little sample it's fine*
I’m originally from São Paulo and lived for about 7 years in Winnipeg. This year I moved to the south shore of Montreal and it’s crazy how Montreal is so similar to São Paulo in many different ways. Food here is a thing and it’s fantastic, events happening everywhere and all the time, people express themselves more, music, culture, things to do… São Paulo will always be one of my favorite places in the world, you can’t find another city with so many options of amazing food. You should try the pizza or the efiha there and thank me later. Also, if you go close to the Japonese neighborhood (Liberdade), try to visit the Samurai Karaoke, one of my favorite places in the city
I am from Brasil , and I hope u enjoyed São Paulo. Please be aware of thieves on the street. Especially when walking around with mobiles phones , just a reminder. ❤❤❤❤❤
you should go to Paulista Avenue on Sundays 🐢but take care with your camera/smartphone, especially if you see someone approaching you in a motorcycle or a bike
That water was sparkling water and it helps neutralize the palate as it effectively clears the taste buds so that you can have your coffee without lingering flavors. This is not something for foreigners
*Acumulei um total de 89 mil hoje. Estou verdadeiramente grato por todo o conhecimento e informação que você me deu nas últimas semanas. Comecei com 5 mil há 2 meses.*
That curved building was Sumitomo bank building a Japanese bank I don't know what happened to the bank and I know because I used to work for Bank of Tokyo near there. And the little cup of carbonated water they give to you when you order coffee is to clean your mouth after the coffee, you drink it and you have a fresh breath.

Eu já fui brasileiro e decidi de anular minha nacionalidade desde que Bolsonaro foi eleito pelo nosso povo .
FINALLY HERE!
I just loved your video, such smooth and 'simple' content, you know. Also, considering the fact that you're in my city and recording on Av. Paulista, where I work every day, makes it even better.
Enjoy the city
Ele voltou ❤❤❤❤❤❤ he's is back so surprised and happy y3 are w back❤❤❤❤❤
São Paulo is Brazil's Mega City
🐢 Thanks for a great introduction to a fascinating city.
I wanna go there.
I love Sao Paulo! Paulista Avenue has a mix of culture!🇧🇷
Muito obrigado 😊
8:00 About the unique Brazilian spelling of the word LAMEN, if it was written as "RAMEN", Brazilians would pronounce it "hamen", that's why LAMEN sounds closer to the original pronunciation. By the way, the Japanese word RAMEN was borrowed by the Chinese "LAMIAN"
vivendo e aprendendo
Cool video! Waiting for more content from Brasil ❤
I Live in São Paulo, I love ,vídeo wonderful congratulations.
Welcome to São Paulo! 🤍
Welcome bro❤
11:40 this is sparkling water and it is used to remove the taste from your mouth before drinking coffee. It is to make you taste the coffee better.
I made it to the end. Glad to see you're still making these great videos. We actually met in Mexico City by chance :)
Very nice and respectful video about SP. Whenever I watch videos like this, I often find myself waiting for the RUclipsrs to drop some stereotypes and misconceptions. Not this case.
My favorite avenue !! 💜💜💜. Nice video!
🐢 awesome perspective of our vibe
6:33 I went to Paulista several times (born and raise in Sao Paulo) and NEVER, EVER have notice this building.... I'm ashemed of myself 😢
Nice video btw, let's hangout someday there is a lot of parks and places outside of the city center (Paranapiacaba is one of my favorites)
São Paulo ❤ my best City in the world
Very good vídeo 💯
São Paulo is the largest of all cities in Brazil 🇧🇷 , I love São Paulo ❤
Welcome ❤❤❤❤ you should go to the Ibirapuera Park and the Ipiranga Museum, you'll love it
I hope you're enjoying Brazil.
10:07 🤣
E ele foi assaltado?
Sparkling water cleanses the palate before coffee and boosts it's flavour, that's why Brazilian cafeterias serve it.
1:45 At the top of that building there's a museum you should definitely check. The last time I visited São Paulo I really liked it. EDIT: Next to it (the glass building to the left) there's a glass balcony that overlooks the avenue - it's a popular tourist attraction.
Lindas imagens da Paulista.
Mas o centro da cidade está um verdadeiro horror em todos os sentidos!! 🤮
The tiny cup of water is sparkling water! It is often used to clear ur taste; It's normally served with black small shots of coffee but some establishments got used on serving it with all kinds of coffee
10:05 there's a guy in the backgound of this moment saying "vai ser assaltado" which means "he will be robbed" lol, im glad nothing happend to him
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
Que bom! Mostrar para o mundo que o Brasil não se resume em Rio de janeiro e Amazonas. Parabéns pelo vídeo 🎉
Lovely video. Congrats from Maceio - Alagoas, Brasil.
São Paulo is the largest city in the Americas.
At 10:07 the guy who passes by him said “quer ser assaltado” which means “he want to get robbed” haha
Thanks for not trying to speak Spanish to brazilians! Much respect!
But many Brazilians while living in Montréal prefer to speak English in a French speaking society
Mesmo que a banda na rua estivesse tocando "Despacito" 😂😂
The main problem is that most Brazilians just can get Spanish, but they don't speak the language properly.
BEM VINDO A SÃO PAULO!!!
In São Paulo have everything.
Adoro suas entrevistas .
Bem vindo de volta
So nice to see your POV in the city I was born and raised! Hope you had a great time there Dan! BTW, the curved building is supposed to be the new Hard Rock hotel in Sao Paulo, not sure when it's going to be built though, cheers bro!
nice video
that fancy Mcdonalds is the 1000th location in Brazil. and they are called in slang as Mequi. that one is built inside a renovated very old mansion house
hey My friend!
Bro come to Florianópolis too!
sorry but I had to point it out
HELLO in Portuguese isn’t hola like in Spanish
hello in Portuguese is OLÁ with an emphasis on the last letter A due to its accent mark
so Spanish: HOla (emphasis on the first syllable)
Portuguese: olÁ (emphasis on the last letter)
please 🙏🏻
Very true
Top video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Japan House is just an art museum, the actual Japanese immigration history museum is in the Liberdade neighbourhood.
an art museum AND a very expensive shop, I went there twice and both times was shocked at the prices of the stuff sold there
You have to visit Rio de Janeiro, it's beautiful
6:40 *The formerly Sumitomo Bank building, it's such a pity that it's abandoned and even the broken windows is very unexpected for a building that used to be very cool in the 80's to 90's. Most Avenida Paulista businesses hire 24 h guards to keep vandals from tagging buildings, but it seems the former leasers of Sumitomo may have gone out of business and the landlord wasn't able to rent to anybody else. Because this is Avenida Paulista, which is a very expensive address, probably it will be sold and imploded to make room for a new high-rise soon. Or renovated.*
welcome to my city ❤️🇧🇷
12:07 OMG!! that's make your day 👌🏻
Come to Minas Gerais, the best food in Brazil! Some tips:
btw: sparkling water served with coffee is to help cleanse the flavor on your tongue so you can enjoy it again as if you were drinking it the first time.
One tip: if you visit Avenida Paulista on Sunday you're gonna have a whole different experience. On Sundays they close the street for cars and there are all sorts of artistic shows and performances throughout the street.
So nice.
I'm an hour by plane from São Paulo. It's a very interesting city, I've been there many times. But there is always the problem of insecurity.
My city! Despite the problems, I love it. And it's a vibrating, multicultural place.
I did watch it. Well done🎉
Great video! Brazil actually has the largest Japanese population second only to Japan itself!
It's really funny that you were talking about Brasil being different from Canada mentioning beaches and forests when you're at São Paulo (which is also a very nice city, of course). You should come to Bahia. Nice beaches, Salvador is very historical and we have mata atlântica also
10:06 the guy in the background says: "quer ser assaltado..."("he wants to be robbed")
🐢 comme d'habitude, jusqu’à la fin
*Wow, I can't believe he didn't figure what the sparkling water is for. I think the sparkling water is for you to be able to taste the coffee better. First you drink it, and then the coffee. I usually don't like sparkling water, but since it's just a little sample it's fine*
I’m originally from São Paulo and lived for about 7 years in Winnipeg. This year I moved to the south shore of Montreal and it’s crazy how Montreal is so similar to São Paulo in many different ways. Food here is a thing and it’s fantastic, events happening everywhere and all the time, people express themselves more, music, culture, things to do…
São Paulo will always be one of my favorite places in the world, you can’t find another city with so many options of amazing food. You should try the pizza or the efiha there and thank me later.
Also, if you go close to the Japonese neighborhood (Liberdade), try to visit the Samurai Karaoke, one of my favorite places in the city
The sparkling water served with a coffee is to "clean" your taste (tongue) and prepare to enjoy all the flavors of a coffee.
Boy, I was on that bus, in Paulista! You didn't even see me.
That water was sparkling water and it helps neutralize the palate as it effectively clears the taste buds so that you can have your coffee without lingering flavors. This is not something for foreigners
I’d recommend checking out three places that are close to each other: the "Brass Brew" bar, Água Branca Park, and Allianz Parque.
