  • We start this segment by discussing the flow work (flow energy) concept that leads it to the enthalpy concept. We then start applying the conservation of energy (first law of thermodynamics) to open systems (control volume). We discuss the specific cases of applying the 1st law to steady (steady-state steady flow) and one-inlet and one-outlet. We end the segment by comparing the enthalpy of steam to kinetic and potential energy values. This material is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant No. 2019664.
