@@rickgrimes. Lots of reasons. One was the general mindset of society who believed in the basic goodness of people. Another was that most people respected other people and their property, not leaving trash around or hurting anything. Hard drug use was tiny then compared to now. People weren't so afraid of strangers so instead of calling the police they'd come to speak with you instead, only going further if that was necessary which it usually wasn't. The people of today don't see strangers as potential friends, but have been 'trained' by society to see anybody they don't know as a potential threat or problem instead. Even the Police act this way, preferring to just arrest someone instead of looking for ways to alleviate the situation without doing that. It's simply an easier approach being like that, but in so doing you lose the humanity among humans which has been the cornerstone of society throughout history. People have always been judgemental, but in the past you could overcome that- you can't now because they won't give you the chance to do it. Now people don't care and just want what they perceive to be problems to go away, either on their own or by letting someone else deal with them; people no longer see and understand that we have an obligation to help each other which is the basis of any society. If you have no empathy then don't come to me looking for some when it's your turn to need help unless you show me first that you've learned why empathy matters and that you've embraced it. I've just gone through a year of essentially being homeless, and if it weren't for friends and people who gave me a chance to prove my worth I might be dead for a lack of shelter. I'm finally set up to where I have a stable home again and people I deeply care about around me to help me go through the end years of my life safely and in relative comfort. Old school people, not the kinds of people so common today who don't give a rats @$$ about anyone but themselves and their small group of social cohorts who will abandon them the first moment they become burdensome. Society has changed and not for the better.
True. Im 59 and remember better times. The gov't and system continues to tighten the noose on freedom as time goes on. We are just a number and source of tax money to them.
I know/knew a guy named gary kamozi. He's even on youtube. He's lived in the back of a mountain for 40+ years, in a cave, talking to rocks. Doesn't shower, and won't go inside peoples homes because of the electrical signals... 4 years is nothing.

@djomegaminus I think you have very good advice Rob. I have been watching a ton of videos lately about "dug out" shelters. Some of these dug outs look fantastic. As a former stealth camper I learned its always just a matter of time before you're caught. Too many variables beyond your control and they're always shifting. As long as you understand that and it seems like you do, then you know there's no point in getting mad and looking for someone to blame. The number one thing to realize about human nature is that there's always the few, but enough, people who will spout the socially acceptable reasons for uprooting someone who's causing no harm or damage when we all know the real reason is they can't stand that someone else has the courage to live free when they're slaves. The classic lobsters-at-the-bottom-of-the-trap syndrome.

I'm sorry for your circumstances. This is just an idea that crossed my mind.

Sorry that they found you. You are Not hurting anyone. Realy praying for You to be blessed and safe. Amen
I'm seriously concerned for your well-being. Honestly I've never bought into a RUclipsr's bio more than yours. You seem genuine, honest, and generally a good honest person.
A pretty God you either get the funding you need to get set up on a different route, and I really am interested in your journey and outcome. As a consumer it seems selfish, but I really mean that I want the best for you whether I know what happens or not.
It is a sacred obligation, to stay alive and to keep your integrity. Whatever path you take to keep that. I implore you to do so. God bless you!
I can tell you, for sure, that I am in good shape. I just got caught and lost my home again, and I’m out here smiling and thanking God! I’ve been doing this my whole life.
You are handling this major blow like true Man Rob.
Not allowing hate into your heart.
Many People would be Bitter, twisted, and get nasty, esp given you have probably been betrayed by some low life following you here on RUclips.

Time to move on.
You are in my prayers that you find somewhere better.
Stay Victorious within!

I agree it was definitely easier in the 70' 80' and 90' I had the time of my life.
Tthere was a certain trust back then that isn't alive as much anymore, plus more woodsy acreage in general@@rickgrimes.
@@rickgrimes.Because we live in a police state now.
I wonder if there is an owner of property somewhere that would appreciate a caretaker living on his property?
Four years is a world record for solo full winter sub zero camping !
I haven’t been out here 4 years straight. On and off. But I have been here all winter!
Guess you've never heard of the Maine hermit...
My thoughts exactly. The Maine hermit’s story is pretty interesting. Inspiration for a character from the video game Firewatch, by the way.
I know/knew a guy named gary kamozi. He's even on youtube. He's lived in the back of a mountain for 40+ years, in a cave, talking to rocks. Doesn't shower, and won't go inside peoples homes because of the electrical signals...
4 years is nothing.
I'm sorry man. I hope you can find somewhere that's a little less chance you can get figured out or whatever. That sucks dude. At least the owner wasn't a tool about it and wasn't like "you have til yesterday to get out". Stay strong brother.

Come spring I'd go on the hunt for a dugout style house that can only be accessed via a somewhat hidden path.
below ground would probably be your best option.
Although I agree going below grade is better, occupying something someone else built could be a problem.
@djomegaminus I think you have very good advice Rob. I have been watching a ton of videos lately about "dug out" shelters. Some of these dug outs look fantastic. Heck, I just watched one today where the man who built it added a extra room. Incredible!! A person with an imagination can make a really serious dwelling in the side of a hill.
