This is such a wonderful song, in fact I think the outro is truly one of the best of all time by anyone. It's remarkable that Queen were able to produce astounding music like that on their very first album.
Yes, this song is connected to "the seven seas of rhye." When Freddie was a kid, he and his sister created their own "Tolkien-esque" fantasy world called the Kingdom of Rhye and told her stories, etc. Some believe Freddie took those childhood memories and wove them into his songs like "The march of the black queen", "Lily of the valley", "Nevermore", "ogre Battle", etc. That smooth guitar bit you were thinking of was probably near the end of "March of the black queen".
Brian May was quoted as saying this song was the first time he realized Freddie’s piano skills as being exceptional. and, of course, that dog whistle of Roger at the beginning

Yes, these songs ("Seven seas of Rhye", "My fairy king", possibly "The March Of The Black Queen" and possibly "Great King Rat" ) are about the same fantasy world called Rhye that Freddie created with his sister Kashmira when they were little children.
Lily of The Valley is another one.

Some of queens early songs were already written before they recorded them or in some cases before queen was even formed including bohemian rhapsody.
"Oh mother mercury look what they´ve done to me" that line is the reason why Freddie changed his name to Mercury according to Brian.
This song is absolutely beautiful, but the lyrics always make me feel he was talking about something pretty dark. Never caught that soft "yeah", thanks for that.
I think you'd like You don't fool me. It's from Made in Heaven, if I'm not mistaken, and it feels very 90s. And A Winter's Tale is gorgeous. Freddie's voice sounds amazing and the song makes you feel all warm and comfy. There are still lots of great Queen songs out there!
Nice reaction, I am glad you have finally listened to this song. I think this song can qualify as Freddie writing his first epic type of song. I would say the song is one of Queen's most melancholic songs. The Seven Seas of Rhye is from the perspective of the conquerors. This song is on the opposite side, it is from the perspective of the city that is being conquered, invaded and destroyed. It is the story of a paradise that is being destroyed, and thus everything is changed forever. It is like the end of The Lord Of Rings (the books), where you have the destruction or corruption of the Shire. And part of the reason is because the King was too prideful. Perhaps the King believed in himself so much that he did not create the necessary preparations for the invading force. If you take into account The Great King Rat, the Fairy King was likely just busy with his own propaganda and self promotion, he was just trying to paint himself in a positive light, and because of that vanity, their idyllic existence was destroyed.
But the song also becomes personal, for Freddie. He got his name from this song, he said that Mother Mercury was his own mother.
This is pure speculation on my part, but you do have to wonder if these songs of war and destruction might not go back to Freddie's own life experiences. Freddie's family fled from Zanzibar because of a revolution, thousands of Arab and Parsi's were killed on the island of Zanzibar. The revolution started in January 1964 and Freddie's family fled to Britain in spring 1964. Freddie never spoke about his childhood in general. But these types of experiences must have had some impact.
This is one of my favorite Queen songs. You have heard some 90's Queen, Innuendo was from 1991, 90's Queen is great. I do believe there are great stuff from all decades.
As much as I love everything Queen produced the early Album tracks are my favorite by far.
This was the first recording where Freddie was working at his full capacity. They had been unable to show off his virtuosity with the piano because they didn’t have a piano on stage at that point. So, in the studio was the first chance Freddie had to do his piano things and on this song we actually get that sound of the piano and the guitar working for the first time which was very exciting. ‘My Fairy King’ was the first of these sort of epics where there were lots of voice overdubs and harmonies that got Freddie really excited and finally led to the March of The Black Queen.
I had never heard the whispered "yeah" before! And I've listened to this song and album dozens of times. Gave me goosebumps!
My favourite track from the first album. So beautiful. By the time Bohemian Rhapsody was written they were used to Freddie's forays into fantasy because of My Fairy King, Seven Seas of Rhye, Nevermore, March of the Black Queen. They really got into overdubbing and used Roger's voice to compliment the song. The Queen sound that we would hear for a few more years was evident here for the first time. Unique guitar and gorgeous harmonies. This is the Queen I first fell in love with. Great reaction!👑

Freddie said in an interview how strict his parents were, he was kept on a tight leash so to speak. He also spent a lot of time at his uncle's house which he said you could walk out of the house & the beach was right there. He was brought up with servants, nannies & a white grand piano in their home and spent many evenings with his parents at the ballet & the Opera House, hence his love for music, theater, ballet & he would get so excited attending these functions. The parents exposed him to all of the arts from very early childhood. When they had visitors he would plead with his Mother to allow him to perform a song to entertain them all. and then when sent away to boarding school at age 7 thru his teens, the school also believed in teaching their young students all the art forms . He had a variety of cultural exposure which obviously stimulated his mind to be so creative.

I got one for you is off of the album A DAY AT THE RACES back in 1976 its called WHITE MAN. Written by BRIAN MAY it is really good. Glad to see you are doing videos off of their eariler albums. I really Wish you would've said something to Roger's 3 amazing Falsettos in this song. This is one of my favorite Queen songs, lyrics are amazing and the instrumentals to this are very interesting. Probably the biggest thing in this for me is Roger's Falsetto. 7:30 that's a very short Piano solo right there, really rare for me to hear stuff like that. This song is just simply a masterpiece, I cant believe this was on their debut album. Also The name ''Mercury'' came from this song, Freddie liked it. Great Reaction although I really needed a sentence to Roger's Falsetto. I know first time listens can always be random and I should not expect stuff very early and all that stuff, but yea Roger's falsetto is what makes this song so amazing to me. Maybe you can write under my comment what you thought of that High note, I'm really interested. Anyways yes this song is Perfection :).

I def prefer their early 70s to the 80s but always loved Freddie.
as a little kid, until i was in jr high, i assumed there was at least one girl in Queen, maybe more. partly because of Freddie and Roger’s high notes and partly because Queen is a feminine word. at a slumber party we stayed up late enough to see a video (Bo Rhap i think) on late night tv. i wasn’t the only 12 year old to be surprised, but i was glad i was not the one that said it out loud and got laughed at for the error!
Yes, I believe it was from their first album and in the first couple of albums every song or almost every song dealt with a fantasy world that Freddie had created with his sister when they were young. You can see Queen forming to the band that we know today. I thoughly enjoy your reactions!

Yeah, I've always regarded this as part of the Rhye realm, (Seven Seas of Rhye . Ogre Battle. March of the Black Queen. My Fairy King. Lilly of the Valley. Nevermore). It's such a beautiful song and so very underrated.
👏👏👏reaction Hap❣️. “How music changes through the years” sprang straight to mind when you were saying some prefer different periods of Queen. Personally, I love the fact it kept changing and that now so many people love Queen and expand their own musical horizons no matter which song first caught their attention.
This song is amazing but I struggle not to cry when I listen to lyrics ... my interpretation is of some dark happenings for Freddie at a time in his youth he should have been carefree. (As I say my interpretation only and like with everything he wrote, no one will ever confirm or deny the original meanings)
All I can say is that his genius for references to great writers, poets, philosophers and historical fact and fiction is incredible for someone who was never seen with a book ! .. he must have absorbed an incredible amount during his school years!) (In this the Robert Browning ... pied piper references “and their dogs...“ to “... eagles wings”. )
They really couldn’t perform these types of songs live, only snippets in medleys due to the complex hatmonies

Personally, I've always thought that this song was about the biblical fall from grace. Though I'm not religious myself, that's what I've always associated this song with. And it's not difficult to see why: Queen's debut album has several songs based in (Christian) religion, most notably Jesus and Mad The Swine (about the second coming of Jesus).

“Fairy Fellows Masterstroke” kinda ends the same way that this song ends then it transitions into “Nevermore”. I love all these FANTASY songs because they whisk you away to the Freddie’s Seven Seas of Rhye🦋 Queen working on their craft!! Great reaction!!

I think this song is about things that happened to boys at the all male school he went to at age 7. He is but a child. Just saying, I may be wrong. Can you react to Put Out the Fire by Queen. It is so relevant to today

Cheers Fella, I found early Queen quite "magical" & so inconsistent in musical terms. I know of no other bands who played with music in this way..............If you want something different to react to, try "T'Pau - China In Your Hand", Carol Decker had a fine voice.
