He's saying the drag on the motors from powering the generator make the power generated by the generator negligible. The batteries would still drain but a lot slower, eventually the car would need to be plugged in.
Just tell her that it may reduce the battery use but not enough, as the main point of source energy is still the battery. No motor engaging, no generator. No battery, no motor engaging. It’s not a terrible idea though, I imagine if it’s rigged correctly and you have a large enough output it could probably halve the amount of times you need to charge your EV battery. I don’t know shit about electric vehicles though 🤷🏻♂️
