Even when the weather turns on you when you're out painting, it's always best to stick it out as sometimes the worse the weather the more exciting the results!

Working with mixed media using a variety of different paints. I work rapidly but build up the paintings in layers to make sketches that can be referenced in studio paintings.
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

I love what you say about grabbing information when you are outside - not trying to finish up in those moments. I will keep this close when I am out walking and grabbing photos. Thank you for the inspiration and for your generosity in sharing your process.

When you were talking about the raindrops hitting the thinner brush strokes of one of your sketches, I had this mental image that Mother Nature wanted to get in on your act. She wanted to paint, too, and so she used whatever tools she had available. Just glad one of them was not lightning!

The way you talk about your art reminds me of Improvisational acting assignments I had in university, which helps actors develop quick reaction skills on stage. Instructors says...it’s raining out...you instantly respond on stage. You show on the various pieces, the effects of when the environment changed. It energized your pieces. Nice thing is that you saw it as a positive and stayed to work through it. WOULDNT it have been a different video if you’d folded it all up and run inside from the rain? You’re teaching us More than just how to paint and collage. Good on you...🌻Laura

Have watched this several times now and still think “not that bit!” as you edit and then I see what you’ve done. It’s a strong lesson I have to learn I think. Don’t be precious!
