Unreal the current condition of this trail! I used to run this back in 2002 with a stock TJ with 31s and open diffs on it. Slick rock was no issue and some others were all doable. The rock garden was the only place I would weave side to side and still bashed the rockers. Doesn't look at all like that would be possible anymore. BTW, fantastic camera quality!

Mike cool trail. what solution are you guys using for steering on the tj's? if you want to do a video on that i'll wait....

There isn't a magical solution for the TJ on stock axles. Currie one ton steering has been awesome. You can also do a tie rod flip to help clearance. It's not indestructible but it is an awesome setup. The guys in my group bend the tie rods on a somewhat normal basis. Pull them, put them in the press and bend them back. You can't play and not expect to fix stuff. Savvy makes an aluminum version of the tie rod that flexes but springs back to shape. It solves the tie rod bending issue but now things can break downstream from that. The biggest advice for TJ's is don't install a dropped pitman arm and make sure to maintain all the things related to steering in good repair. (Balance tires, ball joints, track bar bushings, unit bearings, and control arm bushings). A steering damper is not a fix, rather a bandaid.

@@TheBFHGarage well thats what i've been dealing with. i wheel on a lot of big rock (look up "the reiter wheeler" on you tube for the trails we run) and i'm running the heavy duty stock type stuff and after a couple of good hang ups things get real flexy as far as the drag link and tie rod while in the rocks. i was just looking at rustys dom kit but i know an after market front 44 or 60 to replace the rubi 44 is in my future.

I got questions or ya , how many lockers have u installed in a dana 30 jk front axle with 4.56 or 4.88 with 35s or 37s. With all the necessary housing braces and ,c gussets. How easily do they break?

    • @TheBFHGarage

That's a question that can be answered many different ways. How hard is the driver on the throttle? Does the driver beat the snot out of it or baby it? Specifically to the JK, their known issue is the inner C bending. Adding gussets helps prevent that. The biggest tire I would personally run on a D30 is 35's and only with chromoly shafts. A lot of JK owners go straight to 37's or 40's and you see far more failures with those larger tires versus smaller ones. Do people have success? Sure. But it's all in how you drive it and if you take it off road you are at higher risk for damage. My .02
