When Edmund was doing his audition for the role of Pookie 😂 I swear he sounded just like Taye Diggs when he played on “Malibu’s Most Wanted” I was crackin up😂😂. Side note: Ms. Deborah Ayorinde a.k.a Dawn Reeves facecard is 👩🏾🍳 😙.
I was on like episode 5 when I suggested it to a friend, told him it so good and that this season story isn’t related to the first one so he can jump right in I literally just finished the last episode and my mouth DROPPED
The parts in season one with the lawn burning and the dog dying is what happened to Nat King Cole’s family and family pet and the white people siting outside the family’s house was what happened in Levitt town PA in real life to a black family that moved in that neighborhood
If Edmund hadn’t just been tossed twice back into the foster system, and got the help he needed, he wouldn’t have grown up without a "center" after experiencing extreme childhood trauma. Mentally ill people are more susceptible to the negative images projected in the media regarding black men. He kept trying to shape himself into a normal human male, but through the filter of white casting directors - Simulating a modern minstrel show! He was being abused at the foster home by being forced to watch TV endlessly, which is how he learned about the dehumanization of black people, especially black men in 90's LA. He watches the Rodney King police brutality, absorbing these harmful messages, he carries this violence into the world because that's all he sees. He tries to be harder, and scarier to satisfy what he saw on TV, it's so freaking sad. He needs someone to help him hold, and process his trauma, but he was left alone, with the hole of a twin sister whom he saw grow up with a blessed life, while he held all the trauma between the two of them.
I would feel a way about suddenly finding out I was adopted, but I don't think I'd be as upset as she was. I would be more upset about being lied to about my brother. That was messed up.
1. Mr. Luke James did an excellent job. 2. McKinney was typical-TYPICAL 1991 in a male dominated field. *FACTS* 3. Yall caught the teen son's facial distortion looking in the tv was to mirror Rodney King's beaten face, the reality-horror subtlety, perfection.
It was a story on “I survived” where a kid was kidnapped by his teenage neighbor who kept him for days and broke his bones. The teen said he liked the sound of bones cracking!!! The kids got away thank god. But yeah real demons walk among us
In this case yes i would be mad because she should have been told her so she could look up her family tree. Seeing as mental illness/generational trauma run deep in her family & is hereditary. Edit: it's no different then AHS with the anthology and using the same actors for different characters. You can basically just chalk it up to her growing up to look like her grandma
That Mott lady’s house was so nasty like how in the world was she even approved to foster with her being a literal hoarder and the filthy living conditions
Omgawd. Me too!!! Thank God for my husband. Some episodes we had to watch at night and I was under the blanket getting a play by play from him!!! 😂😂. No gawd with the clownish makeup. Lawd it was playing on my anxiety. But it was freaking great!!!!!
Another theory I had was when Edmund was about to kill Athena (the mama) and had her seeing the daddy on the day he had a heart attack he gave her the pills and she tried to open it but couldn't and Edmund said to her "how does it feel". To me, that scene suggested that young Edmund essentially was trying to help the daddy open the pill bottles but couldn't, and not that he intentionally took the pills away with the aim of killing him. Remember they were only three or four at this time so it would make sense that he may not have been able to open the pill bottle. But because he had a history of being a problem child, Athena instantly made the assumption that he must have done something which further plays into the theme of Edmund being misunderstood and people quitting on him instead of getting him help.
Right he couldn’t open the pill bottle so he just sat with him instead with the pill bottle in his hand.. sad but hell at least he didn’t leave the dad he stayed right by his side and it wasn’t anything he could of done being 3 or 4.. pill bottles have child proof caps on them even she struggled with opening the bottle he demonstrated to her.. hell I can’t even open a pill bottle sometimes my damn self and I’m not 3 or 4. So I understood.
Yea i definitely didn’t watch Season 1. I did not like the trailer and I did not want to see trauma at that time. But I watched this one and it was good
Reeves grandfather was a WW2 Veteran, came home with PTSD & had to face the same racist BS. He was a talented architect but during that one party his boss didn't invite him so he wouldn't be seen by the higher ups. Reeves became a police officer moving up to a detective position and she still wasn't seen as an equal by LAPD. Then her boss offering her a desk job afterwards "putting her in the background"! The blackface demon coming to her reminded me how much Reeves and her grandfather are so alike. Also, this blackface demon made me wonder if we would see some Chris Dorner (Ex Military/ LAPD/Revenge) stuff if there is a season 3! Because of how Reeves grandfather was tempted to kill his boss.
Thank you for covering this show. I'm so mad we don't have many reviews for it right now. I love you fr fr keep it going cuz you sho are groin. I'm scared to Crack my knuckles lol 2 funny.
I’m so happy you reviewed this! I honestly felt bad for Edmund and shout out to Luke bc he did what he needed to do! And can we talk about how Edmund broke the 4th wall in that one scene? Babyyyy I had to pause the show.
Cat in a bag scene? Black trauma porn at its worst...I will never again watch Them: Season 1. I did drop my mouth open, when I realized the "big reveal" of Reeve's and Edmund's bio mom!
I don't think he was a problem for the white family. I just think he was 12 therefore, they couldn't use him as a "cute" accessory. He was socially awkward, but for this white family him being a black man wasn't acceptable. Since they often see our boys as men.
Exactly that.... seeing as the mother was holding what I assume is another adoptive lil black boy And then literally in the following scene the father says how they had their own/biological child and was trying to protect her
Honestly, when Edmund WASN'T on the screen or in the episode, I was a bit bored. Luke James did that ish!!! I hope he is remembered at the next Emmys!!!
I absolutely loved this review/recap. I definitely can’t watch this as it’s way too scary for me, but damn the story is sssooo good! It’s definitely giving - The scorn of a twin dismissed- lol 😂❤
I am here for it like AHS but BETTER with seasoning. [Season 2] Nothing scares me either...except *REALITY* I was not enthused after season one's BS but was *PLEASANTLY SURPRISED* well season 1 wasn't complete BS, it just lost its way in telling the story just to include ALL the horror of racism which is the real terror, flesh and blood wickedness.
I think the foster mom wasn’t mean if you remember from season one the spirit that follows them in the black face is spirit that gave his soul to the devil . Everyone kind of became a different version of themselves. So I think the reason the foster mom became mean was she could see it too. But now It’s now attached themselves to the family because of the way that Edmonds killed himself and gave himself to devils the same way the pastor gave himself to the devil . So now’s the spirt is back to bother the family because it’s attached to a blood relative again.
Omg I just now finished watching this! I feel bad for Edmund now that’s cold blooded.. That lady should have been in jail for she was doing them. Then Edmund couldn’t open the pill bottle that’s why he couldn’t give Pam’s husband his medication and he was hated for it and sent back to a hell hole yeah she deserved to have her head cut off. Like come on he was just a kid and she blamed him for her husband’s death and resented him for having to raise the two children alone then on top of that she told his sister that she had no brother and that he was her imaginary friend. That’s cold blooded as hell who deserves that as a kid. Then was taken out of the system being raised by white people to only find out they didn’t accept him and he didn’t fit into their box of what a kid supposed to behave like then got thrown back into the system after that like come on he couldn’t catch a break.. Luke needs a reward for this acting roles!! Absolutely amazing!!!
I watched the first 5 episodes Thursday night went to work came back and watched the rest last night, It was so good, Luke James did absolutely amazing, Athena had to go I did not feel bad for her I felt bad for Dawn and her son, What she did had my feelings hurt She said he would scream for Dawn and he always wanted to be with her, and she sent him back to that Lady, I peeped it as soon as she said he was sitting there with the pills he couldn’t open them because of the child safety cap, She sent him back because she was mad she felt like he let her husband die so she sent him back to that Lady so she could torture him, When I saw that Ruby Lee was their mother it made sense to me because I just finished season 1, She gave her babies up thinking she could keep them away from the family trauma and those poor Babies still couldn’t escape it
Im glad u reviewed this. I saw the series and refused to watch because season 1 was too harsh. I stopped at your disclaimer, binged it, and finished watching your review. They must've gotten the memo cause it was much better. Kudos to Luke James and Ace Tucker!🎉 Seems they left it open for season 3.
Can someone explain the black face man? In the south they call him a Bojangle. Why did he appear at the end of the second season and relate to the first season? - To see him was spooky. 😮…
He’s our inner blackness. If you saw the first season he made the dad not bag down from the YTs. So now it’s Dawn turn to put her blackness upfront and not give two F’s.
@@Melanin360Studio I have to watch the first season again. I barely remember the storyline because it seemed so slow but it was good. I don’t want to miss anything. Thank you for explaining.
I enjoyed it. But I'm gonna need them to explain the reason for killing the drug dealer and the little boy. I understand the foster mom. I barely understand the twins. But there was no rhyme or reason given for the little kid and the drug dealer
I agree. Season 1 was a lot. The baby in the pillowcase scene messed me all the way up. I did like it but I don’t think I could ever rewatch. Now season 2, I want to watch a second time. Luke James made this show but it still left me with a lot of questions. I really need them to go back and do a prequel to season 2 so we can see what happened to the family from season 1. They just left us hanging and I don’t like that at all.
I lived in Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots! It was a crazy time. They had the song curfew for a couple of weeks and you had to be in the house by seven. The police stopped you you had to be going to a job or coming from one or your going to jail! If you were Black that is.
Ashley, I'm the same as you when it comes to horror movies. They don't make them like they used to. BUT.... I encourage you or anyone who's looking for something scary to watch Hell House 1-4. Those who know knows. I would love to hear you do a review of the Hell House trilogies. Well, there's 4 total.
I love the artistry and the creativity and as HEAVY as it was, I did love the season. but I lowkey am annoyed all the seasons will be connected and not a true anthology like how it was marketed 😭
Luke jakes was great in this movie. I agree 2 is better than 1. & if they make a 3 i wonder what the concept will be. But im still confused why Benito had to go?
This review is very entertaining and scary. I might try watching it for Pam Grier and Luke James, don't want to see her die though. The part about Edmund not wiping his butt after crapping in the camera guy's toilet was funny and he Dawn's son asking her about the guy she was sleeping with at the hospital. Children sadly can really get tortured and traumatized in foster care. Foster parents abusing them and treating them less than human knowing they often times may not have anyone else.
Just finished the series yesterday I loved it was so sad Loved Pam Grier/Grandma's Character, Deborah/Dawn & Lucky and Luke James/Edmund and the daughters for the first movie and the fathers character Ashley Thomas I heavily skimmed through the first season finishing the second season I had to go back but I refused to watch the rape/baby and cat in the bag scene I always skipped that I heard about it when it came out and I don't have the stomach for that part of s1 EP 5 I loved how dawn went back to find out about her brothers story her mother's story and humbled and defeated Mc Kinney
Did you peep Malcolm Mays aka Uncle Lou Lou wrote ep 2 and ep6 and was a Story Editor?!?!? I think those generational curses will be passed on. I wld love to see Deborah Ayorinke in s3 tht wld be dope.
The first season traumatized me and I will NEVER watch it again. Black people stayed losing. The only reason I kept watching was because I thought they would win at the end, but to no avail. Lena was wrong for that.

Children sadly can really get tortured and traumatized in foster care. Foster parents abusing them and treating them less than human knowing they often times may not have anyone else.
Listen! Luke James blew me off away. So good. So freaking good.
At the end, was that Erica Campbell playing Ms. Motts?
Did you peep Malcolm Mays aka Uncle Lou Lou wrote ep 2 and ep6 and was a Story Editor?!?!? I think those generational curses will be passed on. I wld love to see Deborah Ayorinke in s3 tht wld be dope.

The first season traumatized me and I will NEVER watch it again. Black people stayed losing. The only reason I kept watching was because I thought they would win at the end, but to no avail. Lena was wrong for that.
Can you review baby reindeer
That...was something. The assault was horrific and sad.
