In defense of Dutch's plan: 5:01 implies Micah's job was to shadow the man and retrieve his documents that likely contained info about the state bonds in Cornwall's oil refinery and the train-shipments of army payroll. Throughout this entire chapter, Dutch used sporadic terrorism and distractions to keep the Pinkertons guessing as to their next move -- what he calls "noise." He does that here by starting a shootout with Cornwall's men to ensure Micah succeeded. He does the same thing later by encouraging the Native's attack on the oil fields, all so he could get a crack at the office desk. Weirdly, Dutch's plan did "work." It was just executed at the expense of the people Dutch was supposed to care for. He started regarding his gang as expendable. Micah convinced him "survival" was what mattered above all else. Arthur "thought different." Sh*t, did I just do a game theory???
The more i watch, the more I'm understanding Dutch and why he turned out the way he did. Im still piecing things together but im understanding more and more. Arthur, Dutch and John are my favorite characters.

Dutch was always charamstic idealist and Hosea was the logical/logistical manager. Without Hosea, dutch's idealism became an unhinged weapon, and the gang turn from a group/business to rebels without a cause, trying to both escape AND right the perceived wrongs of the world with no discretion or long term plan.Going after Cornwall was dutch letting his sense of morality and ego overtake good strategy. Same as killing Bronte, we see dutch going over Hoseas head so its implied even if Hosea hadn't died, dutch may have already been to far gone to listen to reason at that point anyway.
Dutch : Shoot the oil wagon!
*Shoots at a stagecoach*
I know this comment old but holy shit I can't breathe it happened right as I read it 🤣🤣
Everyone is talking about how great of a character Arthur is, but I would argue Dutch is just as interesting in this game. They were both so good!
Dutch is one of the best villains in the history of video games. Great performance by his voice actor as well.
Arthur is still better imo

Bartosz tbf Arthur had tb at that point so not much could be done
Jordan Caws he means feed him to replenish his cores. All 3 are empty
I like the way killing Cornwall wasn't the end of their problems. Instead it acted as a catalyst for their downfall. Clever storytelling.
*_YOU’VE LOST YER MIND_*
No he lost Hosea
Neo2266 Hosea was keeping Dutch together. When he died, Dutch snapped.
Hosea kept Dutch in place
I kinda wish, you were able to loot cornwall's body, imagine the cash he had on him.
His body despawns after it falls out of sight.
SAME WITH BRONTE AND FUSSAR
Probably like 500 bronte had 150 I think
@@dutchvanderlinde4722 you can loot Bronte when John knockouts him out he has 150 dollars on him.
Dutch is one of Rockstar best villians in my opinion along with Tennpenny from GTA San Andreas.
He ain't a villain, he is a criminal.
Red Sky I don’t think he’s a villain, Micah and Milton are villains
Dutch saved the gang a lot, the only bad thing he did was at the end
Dutch is Anti-Villian.... He's bad but for some reason you wanna be opstimistic about him... It never ends good
Nikola Zecevic yeah he didn’t backstab John but Ross decided to do it himself
I'm pretty sure 5:02 is when Micah ratted on the gang!
Holy shit lmao good think. They all acted like they didn't see him damn
Milton said that Micah started acting as their informant as soon as they got back from Guarma
Kinda late but actually Dutch seems to be signaling him to get that book one of the agents is holding. But it's most likely that he did gave them some info then.
He went for some papers
No, Micah only started to betray the gang after they got from Guarma. At this point, Abigail is the rat, there's a whole theory about it, it makes much sense.
Why does every job that involves Micah end in a massacre? :D
I knew I should have killed the guy back in strawberry or at least leave him to rot in his cell but unfortunately, Rockstar decided that he's mandatory to the plot^^
The Trevor of the group, yet not as cool.

There's just something about Cornwall and Dutch's conversation that really speaks to me. Two bad people no doubt but its like Cornwall underestimates how intelligent Dutch is.

@@huntersimpson2493 Broken morals, but morals nonetheless.

He says that but he has a gut
Even though Dutch is pretty much insane by this point, he's still so badass.
I was kinda hoping Micah would get Arthur's TB... And that John would beat a helpless Micah to death like he did Arthur..
Micah would've already been dead before 1907 when John Killed him

The look in dutch's eyes when he says "good i prefer it this way" gives me chills you can tell thats the eyes of a man who's on the brink.

Say what you will about Dutch. His daring and skill are unquestionable. Despite the trouble this caused for the gang, I think this is one of Dutch’s most heroic moments.
I know this comment is 2 years old, but I don’t think “heroic” is the best word choice lmao
@@lordogordo9407 Killing a heartless business man with no regard for his workers seems pretty heroic
@@waledilson2757 agreed. This scene paints Cornwall as a corporate overlord and seeing him shot right in the chest soon after was satisfying. I can't believe all these kids are dying but people like Cornwall are left to fester.
And think we never saw him in his prime. We never saw the man that captivated all of then. We only saw a Shadow, even in RdR2.
I don’t know why but when Dutch talked to Cornwall it felt like the old Dutch came back, he had his reasons and was a “fancy one with words” as bill would say
Dutch and Arthur have the best voice actors in videogame history
And john
00:02 Micah did this to test how much strength Arthur had at this point. Absolute tosser
After playing it the first time I always thought he was just paranoid and rightfully so in an outlaw on the run kind of way but after learning about Micah and replaying this part now I understand
There is so many little moments like this. Also like when Lenny dies Micah, Bill and dutch basically just ran past them like he was nothing. Charles and Arthur stopped out of fast respect for the time being. Even Javier had to look back at him with fear in his eyes

Yeah. I wanted to see Cornwall dead from the very first time I knew he existed. I was worried that he would outlive Arthur and the rest of the gang.
Cornwall death is a big mistake, all that do is a change in management, make the Pinkertoons double the efforts to hunt down Dutch Gang

He wanted everybody to go to Tahiti with them.
@tuntematon tuntemton true, but it doesnt have to be dutch that drives the ship.

Arthur "thought different."
Sh*t, did I just do a game theory???
His plan did work, especially in the end.But in turn he became the very man he told Arthur never to be.
