    A lot of folks with other gravity feeds like stumps etc that want to switch up wood often just drop it in the ash pan rather than mixing it with the charcoal. The disadvantage is you need to keep adding for longer cooks.

      ff8123 Gravity smokers are extremely popular on the competition circuit. They get plenty of smoke flavor. You are in full control of how much or how little but if you are adding small cuts to the ash bin for a long cook you will be tending it quite often.

    If it was left outside with a cover on in UK weather, it’ll be in the skip in 5-6 years.

      I have a new video dropping soon. I have really mixed feelings about this one. I think the for 50% discount it would be the top of the line for that price point. I have the 560 and 1050 and both have done their job but tops they make 3yrs of service. 1050 hasn't been touched for most of the year. Just prefer other grills over it.

  • @MelloHubb

    50° really does not make or break a grill as far as the cook goes. It either cooks quicker or cooks slower. You can always just adjust it.

    • @TXSHeat
      @TXSHeat  4 года назад +1

      That is just my point! Know your grill and adjust accordingly. Most are taking the controller temp at face value and doing so will take longer (typically not an issue) or burn up a great steak if grill is reading opposite of what my two are doing.

    • @j0ker808

      The point is that the temp is wrong right? If your trusting your equipment, well you’re right. It’s an issue

    I think you will get about 4 to 5 years out of it. About the same amount of time you would get out of a new gas grill 4 to 5 years. As much as you smoke and grill meat you should do competition BBQ if you already ain't doing it. Plus how many grills and smokers do you have it looks like you have a few of them. Nice looking setups you have.

    Absolutely great review, no bull just how to do it, though some might not like it.
    I live in the UK and have all the USA grills from large offset, Kamado Big Joe,Treager Timberline 850 and Yoder YS1500 plus many others,so serious about BBQ.
    I have just got the 1050 and knew it was not by the best in quality,my timberline is far far better but over twice the price, but for an extra 20-30% more metal it could have been excellent.I am even considering selling it before I even use it, but probably won’t.All the mods that are happening, WHY, the Webber pellet grill had problems and they addressed the problem and sent updates free of charge

    • @ambbrano3049
      @ambbrano3049 3 года назад

      Sorry didn’t finish, the fire box mod is not a problem until it burns through, seriously?
      The runners for the drip pan collector were bent slightly, moved slightly ant two rivers fell out, both as thick as paper.
      The thought and design are really intriguing but you seem to put up with serious design flaws.
      Why mod when they should really step up to the plate like Webber did.
      By the way Treager service is absolutely excellent, the best I have ever come across.

    • @TXSHeat
      @TXSHeat  3 года назад +1

      Great Comments! I have the Weber Smoke Fire as well and while it got benched for a few months it has been active for the past 6 months with very few hicups. In fact I haven't cleaned it in 30 cooks! Weber has the customer services that all should set their standards too.
      I do have a review coming on both. The MB.. ugh love-hate relationship. WOW the concept and design (for the most part) have been good. The quality is crap and what I had hoped is a few mods would give some longer life to it but I am even second guessing with more rust, failed controller, fans and wiring.

    You mentioned you have the Meater and the Meat Stick thermometers, which do you like better. I have the Meater Block and I love it when it works but too often it loses connection and it is very frustrating at that point. I have seen the Meat Stick but haven't looked that closely. Love your array of smokers and grills, the Summit is one I'd like to get but OUCH on the price. The 560/1050 are a great design however the build quality for longevity is less than I like. I have had my Weber Summit since 2005. I dropped some coin on my smoker, an American Barbeque Systems Pit Boss, love it with the rotisserie. Like your videos and I'm going to watch a few more, let me know if you have an opinion on the Meat stick vs Meater. Thanks

    Great video. I think all controllers a screwed up! My pellet grill is of between 25 and 50 degrees also. I wish that Masterbuilt would follow Rec Tec's lead in controllers. They have one that can be adjusted to your probes. So if your reliable probe says that you are of by that temp you can adjust the controller to be at the same temp. No reason that Masturbuilt cant get a programmer to do the same thing going forward and make a firmware update for the 1050's already sold.

    Awesome Info! Thanks! New Sub! I will have to check their PID temps with my other gauges. I'm thinking about ordering a Tel-tru BQ-300 anyway and replacing that toy that it ships with. The worlds best analog Temp gauges are made in Rochester NY by Tel- True if anybody wants a good one. They are 46.00 on the Jeff Bezos online store. I'm waiting on the Chinese frieghter of shipping containers to pull in like everybody else! Waiting on the next container of Masterbuilt grills. They are 2-3 weeks out from what I hear. I will be in line with everybody else that wants a Gravity 1050. Its only close competition is the same size Old Country gravity charcoal smoker, it is made out of 12 gauge or 1/8" I believe. Its ONLY $500.00 more! Masterbuilt is gonna sell millions of these until they get some real competition. I would buy the Old Country right now for $995. but $1300.00 is just too large a difference for 100 lbs more steel, teeny tiny casters, and no fan or temp control, IMHO. You could buy the 560 and the 1050 for the same price.and I can roll them over a crack in the sidewalk! Yea I dont see any way they can get around the wood problem on a 20lb hopper gravity feed other than not loading it full. Just put in about what it takes to finish the cook, or as close as you can approximate it, then pull out what is left and change over to your next wood flavor on your next cook.( or just burn the remaining log getting it up to temp and add your new wood flavor.) Just my opinion , we all have em.

      I wouldn't wait based on the controller. The controller will get updates (I suspect). If concerned about rain you can get a cover. The manual states something about never getting the grill wet so there is that. As for the outside "paint" its a cheap fix to spray it every year to help prevent any type of rust. If you aren't in a hurry for a new grill you might wait a bit longer to see how things play out but if you are itching... pull the trigger!

    Oh wow. The stock controller is inaccurate by 50° ??? That's totally unacceptable. I have a Masterbuilt thermostatically controlled propane smoker, sometimes inaccurate by a similar level.

      My suggestion to all is to check theirs but you have to compare apples to apples, you need to use a ambient thermostat(s) in the same location(s). Some are reporting off but not as far. Its not like I did a quick test - this was over a full day of trials and actually tested further before I posted. My only hope is that this can be fixed in future releases for those that will continue to use the "factory" controller.

    Good info I guess, but most people dont know what the hell your talking about when you mention these mods... you only showed a few pics and didnt explain enough to really make sense. I do plan on purchasing one of these units soon though. I cover my stuff too.

      Joshua - thanks for feedback. I really didn't want to go into to much detail until I know the Mod is really worth the $!

    Well the rotisserie work on 560

    • @TXSHeat
      @TXSHeat  4 года назад

      I do not believe so. The mounts for the racks are molded into the shell of the 560 where the ones on the 1050 are screwed on. This method allows for the right side rotisserie mount to be put behind the factory brackets.

    Suggestion......What about adding an A-Maze-N pellet smoker inside. That will take care of the issue.That thing kicks ass.
