I'm back here three years later, preparing myself again for the TOEFL, and you still are the best channel with the finest tips and templates! Seriously, you're awesome! Thanks
Hi Josh, I am self-taught and this lesson helps me improve my speaking skills. Despite receiving some negative advice from teachers about how you will never pass the toefl, I don't give up. Thanks for your help from Barcelona¡
Hey Josh, I just wanna thank you and TST Prep for helping me get through this TOEFL journey. I scored a 112/120 (R-30, L-28, S-27, W-27). To anyone else who is preparing and comes across this video and channel, I'd suggest you go through each and every video. Even the ones that date back to 2019. TST Prep has curated all essential points in their guides and the mock tests are amazing helpful. Lastly, Josh is an amazing instructor and the little bit of appreciation he adds at the end of each video is extremely helpful and pushes you to keep practicing. Thanks to TST Prep!

I spent my elementary school in the US but I still found the speaking section to be tricky as I tended to stutter and hesitate, but your videos were so much help to me! I scored a 30 in speaking and 117 overall on my first TOEFL last week! Hope more people can learn from your videos!

I interpreted this message as" there is no tactic that fits every one, if it doesn't make you feel comfortable, then go for another". Based on this recognition, I started to experiment in my daily listening TOEFL listening by not taking any notes but just predicting where or when there might be a "question" after the listening. Guess what? It absolutely worked to me!! I was amazed by how my listening performance had been dramatically improved because of a specific listening strategy being changed. Now, I am not scared of TOEFL listening anymore. So, thank you for your enlightenment. Besides, I also learn that it will be more beneficial for us to persist one technique for a little while and then decide to quit or adopt it. Sometimes a good method needs verifying only after amounts of trials (P.s. I didn't try this with patience before, so I missed it). This approach, namely, listening without notes but focusing and predicting , finally retains due to my patience and close observation this time. Thank you again. I will continue to support and follow you! Wish you all the best, Josh.❤💯🙏

@@elifaslan2424 It took me around 2 months to prepare for the TOEFL iBT. I also had the same worries about the speaking part! Hello, everyone! I've noticed that there are variations in the questions we receive. Some ask for a brief summary of the announcement, while others just request us to report the person's opinion. Should I adapt my approach depending on the question, or is it acceptable to provide a summary of the reading passage even when the question explicitly just asks for the opinion? By the way, those videos are tremendously helpful. Thank you very much for your hard work!
Hi, just to clarify a few points: A speaking question 2 will never ask your opinion. You should always answer in the third person. Also, ETS says you just need to summarize the reading, but if you do the summary too quickly you run out of things to say and cannot fill up one minute. So the best approach is to say the main idea of the reading and the two reasons in the reading that support this idea. This should take you about 20 seconds. Then use the rest of the time to summarize the listening.
@@myrandomfood7659 Hi, and thanks for your question. They will not deduct points for this. In fact, in general, you should always talk about the reading. The main reason for this is there is not that much information in the listening. If you only talk about the listening, you will quickly run out of things to say. Usually, I begin my speaking by talking about what the announcement is and the two reasons the reading gives to support the change. This can be done in about 15-20 seconds. Then I use the rest of the time to discuss the conversation.
Thank you so much Josh for your videos!! I have noticed that when I practice speaking tasks, I usually do not do it well on my first try (around 2 - 2.5/4), but in my second or third try it gets better (around 3 - 3.5/4). It is frustating :(
Keep practicing and stay motivated! One of the best techniques for improving your TOEFL Speaking score is to re-record the same response until you get it perfect. By re-recording responses, you give your brain the opportunity to focus on fixing small mistakes that need improvement - instead of worrying about the content you are talking about. For example, if you are practicing with a Question Type 1, here is what you should do: 1. Record your response and listen to your response. Ask yourself the following questions: - Is your response under 45 seconds? - Did you include specific details and examples, like a personal story? - Did you include an introduction and conclusion? - Did you say 'umm' more than 3 times? 2. Continue to record the same response until you have mastered all of the techniques above. You can apply this same technique to the integrated questions as well.
Thank you so much for your effort. i was wondered about Q2 in speaking section. why it should include an introduction about reading passage in case the question regarding the man in the conversation ?
Hi, and thanks very much for your question. For speaking question two, you want to introduce the main idea of the reading and state the two reasons given in support. This will allow you to speak for a full minute without repeating yourself. If you only talk about the listening, you will often run out of things to say before time expires. Hope this helps. :)
If I don’t finish my sentence before the time is up, will it get scored worse? Normally if it cuts off I said the most things and it just is one sentence which I would have said.

I also like to mention the two reasons the reading gives. This allows me to spend 20 seconds talking about the reading and 40 seconds talking about the listening.

In general, though it is a good idea to mention both the two supporting reasons from the reading and the two reasons from the conversation as well.
