People forget that if it keeps moisture out it also keeps moisture inside the hair! I love silicones!!!!

That’s why I’m finally adding them back in my hair as a finishing/sealing step! I realized my hair was getting all tangled once it was dry because moisture was leaving too quickly. It was like the elements were fighting my hair the second I stepped outside. I still use silicone free conditioner/leave-in because my hair responds well to it. And using sulfates every once in a while doesn’t seem to bother my hair as long as I condition well after without silicones, and then add the silicones on after all my products are on!

Damn girl!! I feel like this was a personal response to my video... you tryna fight?! 🤣🤣 JK! JK! Glad you shared your personal experience. I honestly used silicone back in the day too and my curls looked poppin BUT since my channel, I stopped promoting them because most of my audience is transitioning and like you mentioned, it’s best to avoid them while your hair is damaged. ANNNND now that I’ve cut them out, my hair is MORE poppin now than ever before & I now see that my curls weren’t at their full potential back in the day. But that’s me and once again, like you said, the best thing for anyone to do is TRY things on your OWN hair to see what works best. 😁👍🏽 Nice video. ❤️

Bianca! Omg I just watched your video and I promise that was not a personal response lol. I actually spoke about this on my IG stories two weeks ago and then filmed this video right after, but hadn't had a chance to edit because I was in LA. I got so many messages from girls saying they were getting shamed because they use silicones since everyone is always preaching TCM so I wanted to share my personal experience with silicone over the years especially since I still heavily use them and my curls are absolutely fine. I just felt the convo on silicones has always been one sided and they are actually not bad at all IF you educate yourself. Thanks for watching girl!

I've been silicone free for 4 years until last november as I was following the CG method. All I got was a thinner, dry mess passing for her. My texture went from 3B to 2B. Several medical bills later, a health diagnostic and YT videos I realized this damn method was the culprit. I went back to the old days and my hair is so happy. I just hope I can still get the hair I lost back.

One thing that I don't understand is "hair health." Hair is not a living, breathing organism. It's a dead pile of proteins.
So how do silicones "suffocate" a hair strand? You can't suffocate a rock or a dead body, so...? You can dress it up and make it look different, but it's not healthy or unhealthy. Hair "health" just refers to visual appearance. I've also used sulfates and silicones my whole life, and I never had hair loss from it (and nobody I knew did either).

I have 3b-3c low porosity hair so silicone leads to so much build up that it’s better for me to get rid of them, but since my hair naturally seals in moisture I don’t need them. I feel that if you have damaged/ high porosity hair silicones make your hair feel better. When I first transitioned silicones were a life saver for my extremely damaged hair since it didn’t hold moisture at all.

I have used silicones all my life. My hair is almost classic (bum) length right now and it's nice and healthy. I use sulfates too (have to, due to a scalp condition). Why does it have to be sulfate-free and silicone free? I'm a girl on a budget. I can only spend about 2/3 euro per product, so I have fewer choices. And what did we do years ago? My waves/curls looked the same as they did with a more "natural" regimen; it only hurt my wallet.

    • @HiThereLindsey
      @HiThereLindsey 6 лет назад +7

I'm sure you've seen why sulfates and silicones are avoided by many people but you probably just ignore it? Basically sulfates strip everything off your hair including natural oils and silicones coat the hair so that nothing gets in, also it gives the illusion of healthy hair.

HiThereLindsey so I guess her hair has been “illusion ally ” healthy all these years. I have to think how did our hair make in the past before we all became so politically informed about curly hair products? Don’t get me wrong, I certainly have joined the “band wagon” of no sulfates, silicones, blah, blah, blah( to an extent.) However, haven’t you ever wondered - what if it’s all a sham?

Eva Rene hmmm that’s what I’m thinking too because I went crazy using silicone and sulphate free products and did everything as possible as right and my mom and sister does not bother about it like me and they use silicone and sulphate and has healthy hair, my mom never likes to use conditioner, she just uses like finesse and herbal essences shampoo but my sister scrunches my mom hair with a garnier fructis sleek and shine silicone oil and the hairdresser told my mom that she has healthy hair and like no split ends but my mom barely washes her hair she leaves her natural oils and sometimes uses other oils

The secret is :) To use non-silicone shampoo and conditioner BEFORE you put your silicone conditioner on your hair. It's also good to sqeeze your hair with water in the shower all the time to moisture it like as if you do a curly girl method.
And only then we are going to lock the water in our strands with silicones. That's the way it works perfectly.

silicones are fine you just have to wash them out once a month with sulfate. Not a big deal. When you live on an island they live on silicones for frizz and sun protection. Dominican uses silicones for blowouts they get results that look like a keratin treatment. that will last until you wet it again. My advice on humid days summer time use silicones then in less humid don't.

I live in FL so when it’s pool time my hair not only loves silicones but it needs it so the pool water doesn’t dry out my hair.. yes using natural products on our hair adds benefits but also does silicones as well in its own way. You took me back to the days when there hardly was any hair products for curly girls. I used John Frieda Frizz Ease. It was not a good time to be curly, so I ruined my hair with a curling iron and bad ingredients. After decades of heat, I finally stoped last March and embraced my curls and discovered great products. Big chopped in August and used Deva Curls and Kinky-Curly and my hair grew like never before. Silicones are a false illusion used as a marketing scheme to sell one on “frizz free.” But, if it works for you, then keep doing what makes you happy. Love, your curly prima.

@@julieo4580 that's because once you stopped using silicones and they washed away you saw the true state of your hair. Your hair is still damaged but under the silicones. Cheap silicones basically laminate the hair, keeping out moisture and nutrients for the hair. While it's true that silicones also seal moisture in you have to keep in mind that it won't last forever and your hair will dry out under that silicone coat. If you use silicones make sure it's from a high quality brand, which uses "good" silicones (those are easy to wash out and don't layer up and stay on your hair).

Sorry for my bad english i am from Holland hihi.
I tried the CGM for 4 months.. and i am missing my African Pride silky curls moisturizer with SILICONES..
My hair is so frizzy... i spend like already 100 euros (150 dollar maybe more) on Silicone, Sulfate, Parabens free products. My hair looks bomb when i used silicones!
My hair was sooo frizzy and dry when i used the CGM and it looked like my texture just disappeared more then it was defined. I see big positive changes in hair like all the other Before and after pictures on social media but for me it didn't work out that way and not everybody can afford a hair product that costs $40 dollars or even more.
I learned about my porosity that was a big turn (In a Good way)
My hair was healthy when i used silicones and it still grew fast, never had hair breakage, i only needed to go once a year to my hairdresser to cut the ends because it didn't break or it wasn't dead! Just using a clarifying shampoo with sulfates once a month to prevent a lot of build up but my hair was better when i used silicones.
I am going back to what my hair loves, the media is making using silicones like it is a shame... but girlss do what your hair loves!
Thank you for this video!!! ❤

What kind of silicone products do you use? My hair has some damage from hair dye but I also stopped using Silicon Mix around the same time and I’m wondering if that’s why my curls have slowly been dying! I was going to try and avoid that conditioner due to all the curly hair videos but now I may consider going back to it. Not sure lol. What products do you like?

When I first heard silicones were bad I tried using conditioners without them and my hair looked terrible. I thought maybe my hair needed to transition, but my hair just continued too feel like straw. I keep hearing to definitely not use them on damaged hair, but I feel like that is when they are the most beneficial.. You can't reverse color and heat damage. Silicones make it look and feel softer.. Not to mention how it helps with frizz and iron straightening.

    Hi Ada
I really did stumble onto your channel - but thank God I did. I am a new natural and have been viewing video after video of people stating exactly what you stated regarding silicones. In fact - I was ready to throw away one of my favorite conditioners (Aussie Moist 3 Minute Miracle). I really appreciate your suggestion about what to do if I choose to use silicones (very helpful) and greatly appreciated. Your video was a blessing to me and I look forward to viewing your others.
    Thank You!!!

Ada, what do you use to clarify the hair from the silicone? What shampoo do you use? My hair loves silicones, but I’m scared to use them because I only use sulfate-free shampoo.

    • @emms6724

Deylight70 apple cider vinegar works great I have not found an actual clarifying shampoo yet

    • @LovelyLooker122
      @LovelyLooker122 6 лет назад +1

Deylight70 I know this is an old comment, but any shampoo with coco-betaine or olefin sulfonate will remove silicones. These surfactants are used in a lot of "sulfate-free" shampoos.

Exactly! You do you. I tried the gracias method for about a year and my hair kept getting drier and drier. I try not to use sulfates though because I feel like it really does bad things to my hair, it makes it very hard to detangle.
I love all the Carol's Daughter masks. My hair soaks them up.

Yea I’m so sad I fell into the whole no sulfates thing , my hair was at its longest best state, when I used silicones, I recently went back to it and I’m not leaving it. I want hair back long.

Love this video!! I too use silicones, but I don’t overdo it and I make sure to clarify once a week...sometimes I can go two weeks without clarifying. It just all depends on your hair type. Do what works for you. Test products out. That’s the only way you’ll learn and know. I love how real & honest you are with us. That’s why you’re everyone’s favorite vecina! 💗 btw I love aussies 3 min miracle & ogx hydrate & repair argan oil of Morocco conditioner. I have other products with dimethicone, but those two are the only ones I thought of lol.

Did my best to be non sulfate/silicone free, and suffered bad split ends and dry hair. No butters/oils could help me. Switched to creme of Nature and aussie moist conditioner, and my hair feels so much better.

I learned Silicones were good for people who use a lot of heat. I blow dry most every wash day and I get good results using Silicon Mix. Especially when I flat iron after . I have found a few Dominican products I use in my 4C high porosity hair with great results .
Naturals who stay away from heat don’t too much need silicones unless they are open to using them to help increase moisture. Different textures and different porosities require different things

Thank you so much for this video!! Yes the curly hair Community is very overwhelming, specially for people like me who are transitioning and are desperately trying to do right by our hair after all the damage we caused! Since I stop straightening I can say that all of my products are currently silicone free. I have no idea if my hair loves it or not... but as you commented I should wait to try once my hair is healthy!! I’m getting a cut next month with Ona (thank you for recommending her on your channel) and i hope she can get rid of most of my damage, maybe I can try out a silicone product and see how it works on me after I get the cut!! Can you let us know your top silicone products? Thank Ada!!! 💗💗💗

Silicone changes hair over time and makes it more difficult to retain moisturizer. Do yourself a favor and stay away. You have to strip your hair to get them off.

Hey what do you think of silicones on your scalp? Do you think they block the hair follicle? Just wierd I've seen them in deep conditioners that say to put on scalp and rinse, this is an expensive brand. Dimethicone silsesquioxane copolymer. Thanks 😊

Today was first time since few months that I decided to use a Silicon conditioner and oh my god I noticed the difference while applying it on my hair and after wards, the thing is I suppose to have a beautiful hair with a portion of very damaged due to a Trichtellomania and going off silicon products had worsen my hair more and more to the extent I didn’t know what’s going on!! The goal is having beautiful hair and not obsessing about a cult called natural bla bla bla

Great video, I recently well maybe 2 years ago decided to try out the cgm and at first it seemed like it was working for my hair but in the last like 6 months it's gone to crap my hair seems so so much thinner then it ever has been and so I decided I'm going to go back to silicones and see if that makes any difference

This is so eye opening!! Soy bien quisquiyosa con mis productos y si veo algo que me llame la atencion pero tiene silicone le huyo como el diablo a la cruz + . I've noticed even though I deep condition and try to maintain my hair hydrated, it always dry out. I remember back in the day when I used to blow dry my hair , I used silicone products and my hair was just fine!! and now it is so dry! and now all I do is spent my money on it ugh... My only concern with 'cones is my hair tends to build up very easily but i"ll give it a try anyways and let you now. Promise i wont mentarte la madre lol

Just do what's best for YOUR HAIR TYPE QUEENS... hair care products aren't ONE SIZE FITS ALL. If you see the gallons of coconut and olive oil I drown my hair in most nights and in the morning I wonder.... Did the oil Fairy snatch it all :) and some hair types would break if they use... I LOVE silicones as my texture tends to be dry. It works for me. My hair is gorgeous at 52 years old.. Go figure. MUCH LOVE AND HAIR HUGGING :) Stay blessed and safe xoxo

Just like someone else mentioned when it’s hot out I do need extra help I found silicones when i was in Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 and it saved my hair from frying in the humidity. So I have been using mix chicks leave-in which has a silicone in it and it saves my hair everytime. But in the winter, fall and spring I try to stay silicone free.

Cuz i started using Aussie Miracle moisture and it has do much slip and i love it, but i dont wanna keep using it if eventually its gonna dry out my hair because i have low porosity hair? Do you think its good for low porosity hair? I just wanna know ahead of time.
