Has Brenton thought of putting some round timber logs on the inside of the stall to stop the girls from moving the bottom rail with their feet? Fun video, you are talented and artistic more than you know. Wood working is easy for some by most people would fail at cutting the letters out. Remember they will be up in the air a ways so they will look great. You know how to do so many things on the farm. Nice job saving the bird it was the right thing to do. It is nice to see someone with empathy for Gods creatures. If you have not sent the cow that could not rebreed off yet did you ask the vet about a shot of hormone to spark her hormones? We had some that could breed after a shot and some went a few more years able to rebreed. It is wonderful watching your videos and seeing how you guys farm. Hope you all stay safe and healthy.

    .... first started using concrete nailers back in the 70's before the big awareness of hearing protection. The big thing was to have mouth open at time of detonation, guess it is to allow for equalization of the pressure, guess sorta like when one goes to a high elevation and the is discomfort in ones inner ear and one flexes the jaw and ears pop making things feel better, anyhow still do it do this day .... had to laugh when Brent gave it a wallop, thought it was going right out the other side .... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .... have fun be safe, save our oceans ....

    For rinsing out the stall water bowls you can go to a store and get some small rubber kids' balls the right size and just sploosh the water out with them. Wrap em with duct tape and a piece of dowel to give em a handle - super quick but may get your boots wet... you wear boots right?

    Can you ask Brent a question that me and the neighbors were recently talking about? Here in the central mountains of PA, up until bulk tanks and pipelines come about, the barn milk house was always away from the barn and the milk was carried to it from the barn. Usually they were located half way between the farm house and the barn, but not always. What we were wondering, since we know alot of houses were connected right to the barn in New England because of nasty winter weather, was the milk house between the two all connected? Or off in another direction but still connected to the barn? We assume none stood off on their own like down here. I am sure my shop retiree lawn chair crew(And this young guy) would love any info he could give on the subject.

      @greghamann2099 11 месяцев назад +1

      In Wisconsin our old dairy barns like the one we have the milk house is attached. The only reason it why you wouldn't might be the location of the well. Of course, before bulk tanks you had milk cans cooled by well water.

      Sorry for the late answer! Around here having the barn, milk room, and house all attached is fairly uncommon. But the milk room and barn were always attached on older barns typically with the milk room jutting in front of the barn closer to the road. Hope this helps!

      I think all milkhouses had to be separate from animal housing areas. Even if it was connected to the building, there had to be a hallway or breezeway or a room between the milk house and area that the cows were housed.
      The barn on the farm that I grew up on was the only one I remember seeing that had a doorway directly through the end wall of the barn that went into a small room with concrete walls and roof and built into the barn hill so it was underground several feet. There was a concrete tank inside that room and filled with well water for the milk cans to be placed in.

    Do you think that cows get injured or sterile from AI breeding?
    I have some friends who have cows that won't get bred. They think it's because of previous artificial Insemination issues they only use natural service (bull)

    • @tayfarms
      @tayfarms  11 месяцев назад

      We’ve never been fans of AI we only have a bull as well. I think the whole system of specialized breeding is causing a lot of inbreeding and other genetic issues.
