Okay this is crazy. I'm German. But from northern Germany and I have never ever had interest in my own culture (although I was forced to do German folk dance as a child, but i don't remember any of it except all those festivals which I hated and this music I hated and the boring dances). I was always fascinated by slavic culture. And 3 years ago I started learning Czech because it's just the most beautiful language I've ever heard, although I didn't know much about Czech culture. Then I started taking a deeper dive into that, especially Moravian culture, plus also Slovak culture. Especially music and dances. And I just loved it so so much. Especially the čapáše. And now that I see this video of German Schuplattler I'm just mindblown that Germany also has some beautiful elements in their dances which to me look partly very similar to Slovak and many Moravian dances! So insane... And suddenly I'm proud of my country. Even though I don't even understand Bavarian dialect. But to know this dance here which is in some way similar to the čapáše is just wonderful. And maybe I'm going to learn more about my own culture now and not be ashamed as before to say I'm German. Also I learned to love my language by learning Czech (since many people from slavic countries agree with me that Czech is the most harsh sounding language and one of the hardest slavic ones and many people say about German it's seemingly very harsh as well.)

So look at the old traditions and texts of old german folk songs (NOT military songs). look in the traditions around old trees and old sacred places. In Germany, England, Holland, Denmark, Scandinavia and compare them to those of Russia, Poland, Tjecho Slowakia and you'll find the same. Only the heart aspect has been conserved much more in Eastern Europe which is the heart centre of Europe.
