I want to clarify that the Banana Guard is a funny pick, but I feel like it's too soon for a joke character like this. I really want this game's relaunch to be successful, and I feel like we should be focused on fan favorites first. Banana Guard Rant at 10:45.

the thing is that the multiversus staff are leaking banana themed posts so banana guard is basically confirmed unless its a diffrent banana themed character.

This is the equivalent of a Disney fighting game very close to launch with a massive fan base and a lot of hyped players with precious little roster slots. They have to be extremely careful when choosing the next character from their many IP’s across Marvel, Disney, Pixar, Fox, and Star Wars. There’s so many unique options with cool move sets and fans who are begging for their inclusion. Who’s the final character gonna be???? A random Stormtrooper. Hooray 😐

5:52 weird how the secret slots are positioned. because the characters seem to be in alphabetical order. So how can "dexter or the powerpull girls" be before Batman?... wait no its banana guard
Not sure it matters but if they were just putting the empty slots in places to mess with us they moved both of them the same amount of slots and direction from their actual positions, so if it is Dexter and Powerpuff they both would move three slots to the right to become alphabetical.
What about the second character then?
Quit makin blanket statements for assumptions. With the total IP's they have to have a character boss like dexters lab doesnt mean no dexter...

I can just imagine Tony eating a banana watching this whole discourse go down and chuckle, troll or not. This happening and watching the reactions of people finding the 3 frames of footage and seeing PapaGenos' post has been entertaining to me at least. I'm not very upset because we're still getting the Joker and supposedly Johnny Bravo, but however you feel about it is valid, positive or negative. Not looking forward to seeing the overtly immature reactions of "wHy DiD yOu AdD PoTaSsIuM KnIgHt" and "lol get wrecked they added banana guard before any of your favorite characters." Just deja vu from when they added Piranha Plant to Smash Bros., except they had the luxury of having 70 characters at launch instead of 20 with characters being added over time for free. As you've pointed out, the game needs to rekindle that market of players that left after a month and Banana Guard is definitely not what I or anyone else consider a BIG character that will convince people to play the game. With the Dexter and PPG stages, we've had stages release before characters before (although we knew about Rick and Morty before we got Cromulons IIRC), but probably not the best decision to show those off without having either of their respective characters join on release. Still glad we got more stages though, there were not that many before and it seems they'll get more priority going forward. I would just say hold because we could be shown more characters than we'll see on release through a cinematic or something and BG is one of 5 or 6 instead of 1 of 3, which would soften the blow somewhat. Like they'll announce post-launch characters similar to how they handled Iron Giant pre-beta, as well as LeBron, Rick, and Morty. Hell even if that's not the case, in a cynical twisted way, the outrage getting loud would be enough to get eyes on the game and as they say, any publicity is good publicity. Plus PapaGenos has talked about what we could have gotten in the past as a character and IYKYK, but I would much rather take BG over a certain character we heard about before the game shut down. Sorry for typing an essay, it's just I have a lot of thoughts on the damn banana lmao.
As an outsider to MultiVersus but interested in it, something like Banana Guard is a really really bad idea and makes me less interested. They do not have the clout to be pulling joke characters yet, unlike Smash Bros. This is like if they added Piranha Plant before Bowser and Peach

Yes, I agree on that, and I even bring that up that Piranha Plant was only a thing after announcing 70 characters while MVS only has 20 and literally hundreds of characters that would get priority. Maybe I'm just coping with my thought experiment. I don't want to come across as invalidating your frustration if that makes sense. I know people were not happy with Piranha Plant, and this is no different except they don't have the cushioning of a huge roster from the get-go. I mean it’s still on the table that this is all one big troll, so we’ll just have to wait and see
Personally I can appreciate a good joke character- as I was a piranha plant main in Ultimate...
And while I find the concept of BG funny (I would definitely main him ngl), like you guys already mentioned it's about the promise of hype characters moving forward. The only way I see adding BG as at most an "non-offensive" inclusion is if he is treated as an additional character similar to plant, that being not taking up the spot of a confirmed finite number of characters coming at launch.
We know there most likely to be around 2 more characters coming at launch, BG should NOT be one of them I Def agree.

I'd like to apologize for this (probably cringe?) wall-of-text rant here... but I need to say this because yes
Listen, I get fighting games needs the designated "weird character"... but like... Usually, they add the more important characters first, ya know? And sure, whatever, they could add one, that's cool... but like... Banana Guard? Out of all the possible options you choose THEM? What would they even DO? I've watched the entirety of Adventure Time 2 whole times in my life, and not even I could come up with a moveset for them.
Not to mention, that I don't think the Multiversus roster is at a place where they could just add a weird pick for shits and giggles, we're still missing big name characters! And not just big name characters, OBVIOUS big name characters who should've been in the game since Day 1. Just add them first, and then you can add Banana Guard! Can you imagine if Piranha Plant got added before Luigi?
It's just that, Multiversus always seems to get L's no matter what, recently it seemed like they were getting up on their feet but I guess that was just too good to be true, and the sad part is that I'm not surprised because the marketing guys really don't know what to do, and that greatly annoys me! I want this game to succeed cause I genuinely love it, it might sound extremely silly but it really means a lot to me. Just seeing this game fumble in certain areas and watching everyone making fun of it bums me out. Sad part is? I can't even defend the game because the clowning is honestly very justified with the way they're handling this!!!
Yeah, I guess it's funny that Banana Guard is added? Trust me, it can definitely work. But that's not the problem. Everyone is gonna look at this and start clowing on Multiversus even further! Am I saying that they SHOULDN'T? As I said before, no, It's totally justified. If I wasn't so passionate bout the game, I'd 100% clown on it too, no doubt!
Did I set my expectations a bit too high? Maybe. But I mean, can you blame me?! After 1 year of patiently waiting, the game I love returns by showing off Townsville and Dexter's Lab as stages, possibly hinting at PPG and Dexter joining as playable characters, and Joker is there too! Of course I'm gonna set my expectations high, at least in terms of characters. I mean, why else would they show off these specific stages if they won't add the characters who originated from said stages, but also tease said characters via the Joker Trailer and a freaking boss... and not end up adding them when the game launches? That just sounds dumb... and weeeellll... if this whole Banana Guard thing turns out to be true then it seems like they will take the dumb route!
Marketing this game is literally the easiest thing in the world!!! Now do correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm not a professional marketer, but c'mon, why did it take them THIS long to actually announce something NEW? Was it so difficult to give us new info throughout the waiting period? Cause like, oh I dunno, isn't that how literally any game, movie, or literally ANY piece of media for that matter generate hype for their product??? Instead of the random screenshots, mcdonalds and hockey collabs they could've shown off small things like the menus, character changes, modes, etc! NOT in the final 2 weeks of waiting! But nooo, we don't want to do that! I'm more so confused than annoyed, and that confusion makes me more annoyed that I need to be!!
I guess it's not entirely their fault for Banana Guard being added, more so the devs themselves who decide the characters, but you get what I mean right?

You know the powerpuff girls got teased in the joker trailer and usually characters associated with existing maps are more likely to appear ,and the powerpuff girls clearly aren’t a B or a J from the roster order ,so there is a high chance that the banana guard is just a troll ,especially with how comedic the trailer is and them knowing that the fans are gonna watch this frame by frame

The fact I’ve been predicting and trying to predict characters that will be added to the game in my videos about multiversus. I would have never guessed a banana in a million years but sadly it’s true they just released a trailer for him today 😭😭😭

@@Fizz_the_nerd yeah, and The Joker had almost no build up before his reveal aside from the box the day before. I’d think if they were going to build up a new character, it’d be the first one they show off that’s meant to build interest in the game, not a random joke character. I could see the next reveal going like “Banana Guard… is an item! Anyways, to the actual character.” Though that’s more hoping than expectation.

@@Fizz_the_nerd ooh, found possible evidence that this could be the case! When Banana Guard is shown on screen, one of the descriptors says “human”. That means that he could be a placeholder using Finn’s descriptors.
@@Fizz_the_nerd actually, take back the Finn stats thing, because for him the stat that says human is after the stat that says animated while the one for Banana Guard is first, leading into my placeholder/joke idea since he doesn’t have that stat first.
MVS gotta step it up. This relaunch is suppose to mean everything. A lot of the people already hate them from 2022. This was supposed to be the time to redeem themselves. I don’t mind the Banana guard but it’s way too soon.
Like I said before they should pick 3 fan favorites for relaunch so that can get the fanbase hyped for each character.

In my opinion I dont think that they will add in characters that are highly popular at most, like Ben 10, Scooby-Doo, Godzilla etc. Because it would probably ruin the fun at the first day. Having the most wanted characters at once or every update would look like the game will be played out in two weeks. Probably a bit stretched of a thought here

I dont mind having a banana guard, i would love to play him. I feel like people get to made because the character that they want didn't get in. It's been like that for every game, even smash, and in no way this game will compete with smash, it just won't.
The game is F2P, and as long as people play it, I'm sure it will be supported for a long time. People are sure to get characters they like, and if the leaks are true, then there is a lot to look forward to

As a person who only really wants to play women this roster is such a let down. 5/25 revealed characters so far are women, that's such a small fraction of the roster that I even want to kinda of give a shot to and I don't even love all the women of the 5. Like I know smash has a screwed gender ratio but it was pulling roster of Nintendo mascots there wasn't a lot of women that just is not true for WBs line up of what DC owns.
