I legit cried during this the entire time Ghostbur has funny, and innocent, and accepting everyone, and just an exaggerated amount happy. But finally he shows that he's hurt, that he's sad and that he's just trying to keep it together for other's, and when friend dies and he sees the damage of his blown up nation, he finally lets it all out on the person who killed him.
It honestly reminds me a lot of Alivebur too. Ghostbur pretty much confirmed that Alivebur had crippling depression and that he was constantly stressed and sad all the time, but kept it together for the sake of his nation and didn’t let anyone know. And then finally, he let it all out when he had lost everything. RP!Wilbur seems to have a fun habit of hiding his extreme depression and emotional trauma for the sake of others to the point where it bursts out and he physically can’t ignore it anymore 😊
Hey guys? Wanna cry some more? When you rewatch Niki’s/Ranboo’s vod during her apology, near the end, Ranboo says that everyone thought he was crazy and only listened to him because he was loud. He compared it to arguing with a parent, knowing your right but never being able to get you point across because your still a child or you don’t know enough. Not even an hour later we get this conversation, a son begging, screaming for their father to see their way and what they did wrong, and the father saying that they’ll understand when they get older, ignoring the true problem at hand. This was probably just a coincidence but looking back at it is extremely eerie.
What if all this time Friend was a metaphor for Alivebur? Think about it Philza killed both Wilbur and Friend The moment they were gone L'manberg was gone too, everything important to Ghostbur all the things he was trying to remember are now gone for real and he wants it all back And/or he could've gone mad at Philza because he did the same thing Alivebur did to L'manberg but with no regrets while Wilbur did regret blowing up everything

I love the dramatic irony of Philza wanting to destroy L'manburg partially because he feels the government is what made his son corrupt and made him have to kill him, but he ends up hurting what's left of his son anyway. It hurts so bad. I feel like if Alivebur remembers his time as Ghostbur, he's not going to be very happy with Philza.
I like the notion that Ghostbur is more upset that Phil **knew** friend was in his house rather than Friend actually dying. Ghostbur knows Friend has infinite lives, but he feels betrayed by Phil, someone he has come to know as his father. He left friend in Phil’s protection and Phil still went through with the bombing of L’Manburg.
The streams don’t hurt, the clips dont’t hurt. They are just block people ina colorful place talking. But the animations, where you can take a Minecraft scene and add movement and expressions you can’t always get in Minecraft, then backgrounds and colors to make it feel alive, Those hurt.

I watched the clip of this before watching this and I cried just as much from wilburs actual face. Same with most of the major moments. SAD-ist can animate it and make it more epic, but she cant add much more than epicness, the emotion is only so good because it's already there

Ghostbur doesn't deserve this but thats just how it is. And then he goes on and forgets the whole thing like he said. But he still feels it, thats why he needs to keep blue on him all the time, these moments still affect him. When willbur gets resurrected I hope when he remembers all this he'll handle it better than the first time he was alive. He can do so much good with his memories.
My interpretation- phil did this because he believed government was the thing that forced wilbur to turn insane and make phil kill him. The government also turned his grandkid against him. He lost family. And every time wilbur talks about phil killing him in such a positive light must be so painful

Alivebur was just like he is now. He made his country to help others and live in peace and he got nothing but destruction and pain in return. It got to the point where he decided to destroy it himself before it kept destroying the people around him. Alivebur and Ghostbur are the same person. Ghostbur just can't remember that it's happened before.
Dream SMP started as a funny minecraft server and it has grown to be: - A devasteting story of the broken bond between Philza and Ghostbur. - The consecuences of Tommy choosing between his best friend Tubbo and his disks and his literal savior Techno. - Techno realizing that he has no one but himself and Philza. - Rambo loosing his sanity while trying to figure out what he is and who he can trust. - Sapnap and George giving up on Dream when he started to descend into madness. This story has gone deep and sad pretty quick
While Phil may not be as experienced Wilbur in role play, he still plays his role extremely well acting wise. He is playing a father, trying his best to comfort his kid while also trying to hide him from the real world. Ghostbur would have felt the exact same way no matter what, it was just losing Friend was the straw that broke the camels back. When you listen to the beginning of the clip, you see Phil disregarding, even somewhat blowing it off saying Friend has infinite canon lives. He changes his approach when he actually hears Ghostbur yelling and crying. I see it as him trying to comfort him like a child like “shushushu it’s going to be okay” but that’s not what Ghostbur wants. He wants Phil to explain his actions, why he blew up L’manburg, why he left Friend, why he hurt him. I think Friend dying was a complete accident, but Phil explains that he’s destroying the government because he doesn’t want innocent people to be corrupted, just like Wilbur. But he can’t explain it to him because Ghostbur will never understand that he is the reason Phil does these things. So when he says a cold, “maybe you’ll understand someday” it’s a classic parental excuse to not make him or Ghostbur relive the most traumatic experience of their lives. Phil tries to protect him from the world while hurting him more in the process, forgetting that even though Wilbur is dead, Ghostbur is still his son. Sorry for making you read this essay, I just like looking into little nuances in characters whether intentional or not.
Exactly, people are getting mad n shit because he pulled a "you'll understand eventually" but he can't exactly explain it anyways. No matter what justification Ph1lza says will just be forgotten by Ghostbur. Not to mention that Phil has been apparently reading about resurrection and its effects, he's not as neglectful as everyone thinks he is because he's going to help his son go back to life, even if he doesn't think it's for the best. Characters are complex, yet everyone seems to just shove people into "good" or "bad" the very moment they see something happen.
That’s why I love morally gray characters. You can yell about how c!Phil was a terrible dad to Wilbur (maybe Tommy) all you want but Phil is still a human being. You can see that when he’s hanging out with Techno, he treats him like a person and a friend when nobody else will. And he was the only person to pull Ranboo out of spiraling into a dark place and offered to let him stay without forcing him to join the cause/side. He wasn’t even there for when Ranboo was telling everyone not to choose sides, Phil just offered a place to stay since he kinda blew the last one. While this no way makes Phil a saint and doesn’t excuse the hurt he caused others, it still shows how there’s no good or bad people.

Like yesterday with Misferns (Fundy Eret Ranboo Niki) everyone expected them to join together to be “sideless” when really Niki and Fundy were causing havoc, Eret was farming withers and Ranboo was disappointed in them all. Also that’s why Antarctic Sleepy Bois never worked, non of them had the same beliefs and in the end, they called each other traitors and went on with their lives with one less person. Man. Dream SMP is sad.
This interaction was the one that made me break tbh. All the interactions after the war were just sad but this one truly made me cry. Finally seeing Ghostbur break was absolutely heartbreaking because he's always looked for the good in a situation. :(
As someone who’s followed Phil and technos POV the “maybe you’ll understand some day” hits different because it shows that Phil and techno no longer see them selfs as the hero’s they see it as doing a necessary evil that will help everyone in the end but not in the moment
Philza said he hated the Government because he was forced to kill his own son. (literally no one forced him except his son) but the fact that Philza, Niki, Fundy and MANY others still mournes about Wilbers death shows how much they cared about him... o7' in the chat...
Ok so I saw a twitter thread and it made amazing points. Techno was more of a father to Tommy and Wilbur/Ghostbur then Phil ever was. And also the desc has a great point. The person Phil hurt the most will always forget what Phil has done no matter what, and Phil can just keep doing it.
"Take genuinely nice, wholehearted people and turn them against each other with power and corruption" - the fact that Phil is 100% talking about (Alive) Wilbur, but Ghostbur doesn't know it because he doesn't remember...
I think friend and ghostbur's fast attachment to them was possibly a subtle comparison to alivebur quickly growing a bit too attached to L'manburg disguised as a fun pet and joke. Or it could be just that ghostbur has attachment issues
This scene proves definitively, that you can be a sad, depressed character, and still have a high energy scene. Tommy and Tubbo saying everything in monotone and with 1000 ellipses got tiring after a while, but this was sub good shit.
I know most people here are talking about wilbur's acting but daaaamn credit to philza for this moment his voice and choice of words is so incredibly sharp.
I always saw friends as jshlatt, seeing as shlatts yt avatar is wearing blue and hes got goat horns and maybe a broken part of him thats gone back to a docile state or somthing or other, and ghostbur was trying to make him happy because he remembers shlatt before he became president and they were friends, and when friend died the last of shlatt passed on. I eventually opened up to him and talked about it when I never said a word to anyone else, honestly he might be the only reason I made it thru and I'm sad covid stretched our friendship too thin. To be fair, the only reason Ghostbur doesn't understand is because he doesn't remember the dark things that happened with Alivebur. The reason Phil did what he did was because the government corrupted his son to the point he had to kill his son on his last canon life. It's not like he won't understand because he's completely ignorant, it's just because that memory hasn't fully unlocked for him.

This is so amazing. The little details like Wilbur slightly melting in the rain or Philzas expressions got me. Or Phil covering ghostbur from rain. That hit me hard in the feels. Honestly the animatic makes me cry even more.
Thinking about how this is Ghostbur going through the pain that Alivebur put L'Manburg through on November 16th. Thinking about how Alivebur would definitely be on Phil and Techno's side but Ghostbur just doesn't have enough memories to understand why. Thinking about how Phil is going to have to decide whether or not to bring Alivebur back and the emotional pain that may cause him. Thinking.
I think this scene is extremely important. I've seen comments already addressing this but Ghostbur isn't sad that Friend died. He doesn't say "you killed Friend" he just keeps repeating "you know Friend was in that house." Ghostbur isn't upset because he knows that Friend has infinite lives and he's aware that Phil knows that too. Phil sees the situation as Friend has other lives and he'll respawn but that's not the reason why Ghostbur is upset. He's upset because he gave Friend to Phil, he was open with the fact that he cared deeply about Friend, he trusted Friend with Phil, and yet when Phil knew of the plans to blow up L'Manburg and everything in it (including all of the pets) Phil doesn't seem to care. He makes no choice to get Friend out of there even though he had time. Ranboo saved four of his pets before the explosions and Phil couldn't find it in his heart to protect the one thing he knows his son cares about. Ghostbur also sheds light on how not everyone is to blame for reckless actions. Niki went through two wars without being hostile but when this one came up she had had enough and burned down the L'Mantree. Puffy didn't really do anything, Ghostbur definitely didn't do anything, so why are their houses and pets and belongings getting blown up? The point of all the innocent people was also why I agreed with Tubbo when he exiled Tommy. There are more people in L'Manburg than just the four reckless people that always seem to find trouble. I'm aware that L'Manburg is extremely corrupt and I do understand why they blew up everything but there's just something so complex with the entire story that it's difficult to see who is the "correct" side. I've fallen to disliking whatever team Dream is on simply because he's such a bad person in the lore. He's a classic manipulator that only seems to find happiness in others' downfalls. This time, I find myself feeling sympathy for both sides since I see what Techno and Phil want and I see what the L'Manburg citizens want. Like the actual people behind this have stated, at least when Wilbur was in charge of the scripts, these stories are pushed forward by the characters and not by things just magically happening around them. Most of the characters are selfish and only seem to think one certain way in order to gain something for themselves. Imo Phil sees the future he wants and doesn't necessarily see how that will affect everyone around him. He's a very sympathetic character who thinks logically instead of emotionally a lot of the time. Unfortunately this is a very logical step. He didn't go to L'Manburg to save Friend because he may have thought that would ruin the mission and take his mind off of the situation. But Ghostbur is an extremely emotional driven character. He cares deeply for everyone and everything and when they are hurt it, in turn, hurts him. He put his trust into Phil and he believed that Phil was a good person who cared about him. Phil does care about Ghostbur, that's true, but he cares about him in an odd way. Everyone seems to think of him as this childlike character who doesn't understand anything. Ghostbur may have lost his bad memories but that doesn't mean he can't still hurt. It's very obvious that his emotional wounds from when he was alive are still affecting him. He has Blue in his pockets constantly and they're literally never clear. There's always Blue. Idk I just really like Ghostbur as a character and I'm really nervous what he will be like if he ever does get resurrected. I could go on about him and Ranboo and Tubbo and Tommy and Techno for hours but this has already been way too long and I've gotten off track way too much lol. If you got to the end thanks, I appreciate it :)
I AGREE WITH THIS COMMENT SO RIDICULOUSLY MUCH YOU PUT MY THOUGHTS INTO WORDS- You described exactly why I couldn’t make myself side with Techno, Phil, and Dream here, despite knowing Techno and Phil have good intentions and the government is slightly flawed. Techno and Phil didn’t think about the damage they were going to cause to innocent people and pets, they’re very logical characters who don’t tend to think emotionally. But people like Ghostbur or Puffy that didn’t do anything wrong were affected by this, all those pets were affected by this. And I understand Phil thought that saving Friend could jeopardize the mission, but Ranboo had time to save his pets. Phil knew that the one thing his son cared immensely about was inside that house, and he let it be killed, not realizing that Ghostbur is a very emotion-driven person. And Dream, I just absolutely cannot side with his character, he’s done too many awful things. I can’t even side with him because “villains are cool,” it’s just, all the manipulation makes him an incredibly unlikeable character for me (but a well-written one!) They wanted to take the government down, but didn’t think of all of the harm they would cause to innocents in the process.
All I’m going to say is, if Philza can’t take care of his kids and he will choose his friends over them, he needs to put them up for adoption. ..... If only he knew that's exactly how it has always been for him. He sees Alivebur as a separate and bad person but he's not. Alivebur was just like he is now. He made his country to help others and live in peace and he got nothing but destruction and pain in return. It got to the point where he decided to destroy it himself before it kept destroying the people around him. Alivebur and Ghostbur are the same person. Ghostbur just can't remember that it's happened before.
The pure irony... Alivebur would be like "FINALLY!"
but Ghostbur is just an observer and a citizen.
Dream SMP started as a funny minecraft server and it has grown to be:
- A devasteting story of the broken bond between Philza and Ghostbur.
- The consecuences of Tommy choosing between his best friend Tubbo and his disks and his literal savior Techno.
- Techno realizing that he has no one but himself and Philza.
- Rambo loosing his sanity while trying to figure out what he is and who he can trust.
- Sapnap and George giving up on Dream when he started to descend into madness.
This story has gone deep and sad pretty quick
While Phil may not be as experienced Wilbur in role play, he still plays his role extremely well acting wise. He is playing a father, trying his best to comfort his kid while also trying to hide him from the real world. Ghostbur would have felt the exact same way no matter what, it was just losing Friend was the straw that broke the camels back.
When you listen to the beginning of the clip, you see Phil disregarding, even somewhat blowing it off saying Friend has infinite canon lives. He changes his approach when he actually hears Ghostbur yelling and crying. I see it as him trying to comfort him like a child like “shushushu it’s going to be okay” but that’s not what Ghostbur wants. He wants Phil to explain his actions, why he blew up L’manburg, why he left Friend, why he hurt him. I think Friend dying was a complete accident, but Phil explains that he’s destroying the government because he doesn’t want innocent people to be corrupted, just like Wilbur. But he can’t explain it to him because Ghostbur will never understand that he is the reason Phil does these things. So when he says a cold, “maybe you’ll understand someday” it’s a classic parental excuse to not make him or Ghostbur relive the most traumatic experience of their lives.
Phil tries to protect him from the world while hurting him more in the process, forgetting that even though Wilbur is dead, Ghostbur is still his son. Sorry for making you read this essay, I just like looking into little nuances in characters whether intentional or not.
Exactly, people are getting mad n shit because he pulled a "you'll understand eventually" but he can't exactly explain it anyways. No matter what justification Ph1lza says will just be forgotten by Ghostbur. Not to mention that Phil has been apparently reading about resurrection and its effects, he's not as neglectful as everyone thinks he is because he's going to help his son go back to life, even if he doesn't think it's for the best.
Characters are complex, yet everyone seems to just shove people into "good" or "bad" the very moment they see something happen.
That’s why I love morally gray characters. You can yell about how c!Phil was a terrible dad to Wilbur (maybe Tommy) all you want but Phil is still a human being. You can see that when he’s hanging out with Techno, he treats him like a person and a friend when nobody else will. And he was the only person to pull Ranboo out of spiraling into a dark place and offered to let him stay without forcing him to join the cause/side. He wasn’t even there for when Ranboo was telling everyone not to choose sides, Phil just offered a place to stay since he kinda blew the last one. While this no way makes Phil a saint and doesn’t excuse the hurt he caused others, it still shows how there’s no good or bad people.
@@cheesewater74 Another thing is that people expect Phil to side with his sons, just because they're his sons? I'm sorry but are parents supposed to have the exact same ideals and beliefs with their children? Has no one ever heard the full quote of "blood is thicker than water"? As you said, Phil is human, he's free to have his own beliefs and choices.
@@melanch0lycat5393 I didn’t even think of about that! It’s strange how people believe that just because your family, you have to stick by them no matter what. Like yesterday with Misferns (Fundy Eret Ranboo Niki) everyone expected them to join together to be “sideless” when really Niki and Fundy were causing havoc, Eret was farming withers and Ranboo was disappointed in them all. Also that’s why Antarctic Sleepy Bois never worked, non of them had the same beliefs and in the end, they called each other traitors and went on with their lives with one less person.

This interaction was the one that made me break tbh. All the interactions after the war were just sad but this one truly made me cry. Finally seeing Ghostbur break was absolutely heartbreaking because he's always looked for the good in a situation. :(
Poor Phil. He feels bad for what he's done. But he knows that sacrifices are to be made for the greater good.
As someone who’s followed Phil and technos POV the “maybe you’ll understand some day” hits different because it shows that Phil and techno no longer see them selfs as the hero’s they see it as doing a necessary evil that will help everyone in the end but not in the moment
the hardest part to accept is that neither ghostbur or phil is in the wrong

Philza said he hated the Government because he was forced to kill his own son. (literally no one forced him except his son)
but the fact that Philza, Niki, Fundy and MANY others still mournes about Wilbers death shows how much they cared about him...

Ok so I saw a twitter thread and it made amazing points. Techno was more of a father to Tommy and Wilbur/Ghostbur then Phil ever was.
And also the desc has a great point. The person Phil hurt the most will always forget what Phil has done no matter what, and Phil can just keep doing it.

Even if it's a Roleplay the feels just... the feelings towards the characters...
I think friend and ghostbur's fast attachment to them was possibly a subtle comparison to alivebur quickly growing a bit too attached to L'manburg disguised as a fun pet and joke.
Or it could be just that ghostbur has attachment issues
This scene proves definitively, that you can be a sad, depressed character, and still have a high energy scene. Tommy and Tubbo saying everything in monotone and with 1000 ellipses got tiring after a while, but this was sub good shit.
I know most people here are talking about wilbur's acting but daaaamn credit to philza for this moment his voice and choice of words is so incredibly sharp.
I LOVE the way Ghostbur was drawn with the stab wound in his chest from Phil. this is a great animatic keep up the good work!
I always saw friends as jshlatt, seeing as shlatts yt avatar is wearing blue and hes got goat horns and maybe a broken part of him thats gone back to a docile state or somthing or other, and ghostbur was trying to make him happy because he remembers shlatt before he became president and they were friends, and when friend died the last of shlatt passed on. I dunno, i jus got shlatt vibes from the sheep with all the similarities

As a seemingly happy-go lucky person during the worst time in my life, I fully understand. I even joked about it and asked a friend if he'd believe it if I said I was depressed, he said he would for that exact reason. I eventually opened up to him and talked about it when I never said a word to anyone else, honestly he might be the only reason I made it thru and I'm sad covid stretched our friendship too thin. Sorry for rambling lol, I tend to do that

To be fair, the only reason Ghostbur doesn't understand is because he doesn't remember the dark things that happened with Alivebur. The reason Phil did what he did was because the government corrupted his son to the point he had to kill his son on his last canon life. It's not like he won't understand because he's completely ignorant, it's just because that memory hasn't fully unlocked for him.
it makes me think that the person saying it thinks im an idiot or not smart enough to understand the gravity of the situation. like, no, what you did just hurt people and that's not something you'll 'understand later'

This is so amazing. The little details like Wilbur slightly melting in the rain or Philzas expressions got me. Or Phil covering ghostbur from rain. That hit me hard in the feels. Honestly the animatic makes me cry even more.

Thinking about how this is Ghostbur going through the pain that Alivebur put L'Manburg through on November 16th. Thinking about how Alivebur would definitely be on Phil and Techno's side but Ghostbur just doesn't have enough memories to understand why. Thinking about how Phil is going to have to decide whether or not to bring Alivebur back and the emotional pain that may cause him. Thinking.

Ghostbur tries so hard to make everyone happy,
but when he is sad, he hardly ever helps himself.
I think this scene is extremely important. I've seen comments already addressing this but Ghostbur isn't sad that Friend died. He doesn't say "you killed Friend" he just keeps repeating "you know Friend was in that house." Ghostbur isn't upset because he knows that Friend has infinite lives and he's aware that Phil knows that too. Phil sees the situation as Friend has other lives and he'll respawn but that's not the reason why Ghostbur is upset. He's upset because he gave Friend to Phil, he was open with the fact that he cared deeply about Friend, he trusted Friend with Phil, and yet when Phil knew of the plans to blow up L'Manburg and everything in it (including all of the pets) Phil doesn't seem to care. He makes no choice to get Friend out of there even though he had time. Ranboo saved four of his pets before the explosions and Phil couldn't find it in his heart to protect the one thing he knows his son cares about. Ghostbur also sheds light on how not everyone is to blame for reckless actions. Niki went through two wars without being hostile but when this one came up she had had enough and burned down the L'Mantree. Puffy didn't really do anything, Ghostbur definitely didn't do anything, so why are their houses and pets and belongings getting blown up? The point of all the innocent people was also why I agreed with Tubbo when he exiled Tommy. There are more people in L'Manburg than just the four reckless people that always seem to find trouble. I'm aware that L'Manburg is extremely corrupt and I do understand why they blew up everything but there's just something so complex with the entire story that it's difficult to see who is the "correct" side. I've fallen to disliking whatever team Dream is on simply because he's such a bad person in the lore. He's a classic manipulator that only seems to find happiness in others' downfalls. This time, I find myself feeling sympathy for both sides since I see what Techno and Phil want and I see what the L'Manburg citizens want. Like the actual people behind this have stated, at least when Wilbur was in charge of the scripts, these stories are pushed forward by the characters and not by things just magically happening around them. Most of the characters are selfish and only seem to think one certain way in order to gain something for themselves. Imo Phil sees the future he wants and doesn't necessarily see how that will affect everyone around him. He's a very sympathetic character who thinks logically instead of emotionally a lot of the time. Unfortunately this is a very logical step. He didn't go to L'Manburg to save Friend because he may have thought that would ruin the mission and take his mind off of the situation. But Ghostbur is an extremely emotional driven character. He cares deeply for everyone and everything and when they are hurt it, in turn, hurts him. He put his trust into Phil and he believed that Phil was a good person who cared about him. Phil does care about Ghostbur, that's true, but he cares about him in an odd way. Everyone seems to think of him as this childlike character who doesn't understand anything. Ghostbur may have lost his bad memories but that doesn't mean he can't still hurt. It's very obvious that his emotional wounds from when he was alive are still affecting him. He has Blue in his pockets constantly and they're literally never clear. There's always Blue. Idk I just really like Ghostbur as a character and I'm really nervous what he will be like if he ever does get resurrected. I could go on about him and Ranboo and Tubbo and Tommy and Techno for hours but this has already been way too long and I've gotten off track way too much lol. If you got to the end thanks, I appreciate it :)

You described exactly why I couldn’t make myself side with Techno, Phil, and Dream here, despite knowing Techno and Phil have good intentions and the government is slightly flawed. Techno and Phil didn’t think about the damage they were going to cause to innocent people and pets, they’re very logical characters who don’t tend to think emotionally. But people like Ghostbur or Puffy that didn’t do anything wrong were affected by this, all those pets were affected by this.
And I understand Phil thought that saving Friend could jeopardize the mission, but Ranboo had time to save his pets. Phil knew that the one thing his son cared immensely about was inside that house, and he let it be killed, not realizing that Ghostbur is a very emotion-driven person.
And Dream, I just absolutely cannot side with his character, he’s done too many awful things. I can’t even side with him because “villains are cool,” it’s just, all the manipulation makes him an incredibly unlikeable character for me (but a well-written one!)
They wanted to take the government down, but didn’t think of all of the harm they would cause to innocents in the process.

All I’m going to say is, if Philza can’t take care of his kids and he will choose his friends over them, he needs to put them up for adoption. If he won’t take responsibility for them and he will choose to neglect them, he can’t keep them
