Looking at salary hit for the next 5 years - valued over $60m per for luxury tax purposes thanks to the opt out and signing bonus - I cannot fault Hal for walking away or Soto for taking it. It’s obvious Soto didn’t want to be a Yankee and was using the Yankees and the other 3 teams to drive up Cohen’s offer. This is a new era in baseball and the Yankees can’t no longer be that team that pays the most to top players. They have to get the right players that want to play for the Yankees and show up in the post season. I think the WS debacle left a bad taste in Soto’s mouth and he made his decision after that. Our starting erotatuon is way better than the Mets. In addition, they do not have anybody close to a Judge to hit behind Soto, who had his best year teaming with Judge. Soto left fir 5 million dollars and a signing bonus. Clearly he was all about money. Jason is right, the Mets think their best in NY after one good year. Hal did his best, time to put resources to better use. All the Mets have is a greedy rich owner who will do anything to get what he wants. This contract does reflect this players overall talents. I would hope Fans have faith that the Yankees FO is not incompetent and had contingiency plans already laid out if Soto signed elsewhere , If that is the case deals should start to roll out from the Winter meetings . I am a Cubs Guy and from an unbiased outside view the total of that contract is far beyond the worth of the Player but large Market Teams can absorb it but it will affect their future roster construction especially when the Empire strikes back in the next CBA because Mid and small Market owners are going to dig in hard now

So long, Juan. A $5 million difference at that kind of money isn't a money thing, it's an ego thing. He already has even at at 200 million more than he should be able to spend in several lifetimes. Hope he enjoys short playoff runs, congratulations! Hal absolutely did his job here.

you alluded to Jason. I much prefer Judge in RF anyway for obvious reasons. We will

Whoever our Yankees get this off season, a major thing they've stopped doing & they were known for, was waiting a pitcher out! Always swinging at 1st pitch. Bang. Double plays galore! Men stranded on base continuously. Coaching must drill this into their heads like in the 4 Core years. Soto who? ☠️

I spend alot of $$$ to go to the games but i am not mad at all with Steinbrenner..He did what he could and being a Yankee meant absolutely nothing to Soto..He treated them like he never played here..I also know Soto's contract would be alot more painful for the Yankees than the Mets...He saw after signing him the Yankees couldn't just keep on spending and spending while Cohen can..That's why he saw a better future with the Mets..Go build a well rounded team now..

Jason, Great channel. I cannot fault Hal Steinbrenner for not landing Soto he gave top dollar to Soto. Soto went for top dollar and I think he did not want to be under Judges shadow unfortunately. Sad Judge and Soto made a great one two punch together. I would not mind Yankees looking into Vlad Guerrero Jr. but he will be a free agent after next season. I like Cody Bellinger but without Soto here it loses it's juice for me. Not the best but I kind of like the outfield of Judge in right field, Grisham for his defense in centerfield, and Jasson Dominguez in left field. I think they should trade Spencer Jones for somebody good also and not hold on to him too long like Florial.

Now, I'd go get either Burnes or Fried, Walkwr for 1B, and either Santander/Hernandez or trade for bellinger and still spend probably less than half of the $760 million they offered Soto! He clearly just cared about the money and didn't wanna be here.

Hi Jason, while I am disappointed of course this actually gives the Yankees more opportunities. I have two suggestions - one is slash and burn - sign both fried and burned trade rest of pitchers for position players including Bellinger and McCann of Colorado. The other is more practical - sign 1 of 2 - Max Fried or Corbin Burnes , Bregman and Hernandez or Profar. Try to get players with no international money attached. Trades for bullpen.

3 deals to address the lineup. Trades for Bellinger and Yandy Díaz and sign Profar. Yandy for first, Profar for 2nd, and Cody for CF.
Keep it strategic and tactical. Bigger moves to make down the road at the trade deadline and next year’s FA class - I.e. Tucker, Schwarber, Vlad, etc.
If you throw big money now, let it be for pitchers.
