Hal did just enough to not get him. Why were all of his offered just a little behind? Mets 730 Hal 710. Mets 765 hal 750. Why was he always just behind? Because he was not serious about getting him. If he were he would have w got him. Those are his words not mine
It’s not the end of the world! And truly, we don’t need/want players that don’t want to be Yankees. Let’s pivot and get guys like Bellinger and Fried who want to be here…
I really think the deciding factor was Soto feels he'll be more comfortable in the Mets clubhouse. The Mets have a ton of Latin players and coaches and i think that was the deciding factor (considering the money was almost identical) I think he wanted to be around a bunch of Latin players like himself which gave the Mets the edge
While being rejected is almost always disappointing, the best revenge is living well. I hope Hal and Cashman take this boot to the ass as a wake up and actually use that money to get another #1 pitcher, the best available 1st baseman and lots of really good bullpen help. I wish Soto and the Mets all the luck as they will need it against the Dodgers even more than the Yankees need it against any team in the AL.
I can't even get pissed. The Yankees have been buying out the superstars of other teams for decades. We whiffed on one guy - a great player no doubt - that we had on the team for just one year. Looking at salary hit for the next 5 years - valued over $60m per for luxury tax purposes thanks to the opt out and signing bonus - I cannot fault Hal for walking away or Soto for taking it. I'm not saying I'm not disappointed, but the guy was here one year. He's been traded around like a bottle of whiskey around a campfire for the last 4 years. He has no attachments to any team, nor should he. I wish him well when we don't face him.
The Yankees are bigger than one player. The fans are bigger still. I am no longer concerned about losing one player. The Yankees and the fans all move to the future. Yes, I have been devastated..To the loss of Thurman Munson and Catfish Hunter. That was sad. But today, I look forward to Cashman rebuilding our team with capable players. Thank you Jason, thank you fans on this site. Lets go Yankees!
Jason, I agree with you that now is not the time to trash Soto, Yankee ownership or frontline management over renewing Soto. Instead, as you did, give congratulations to the Mets, Cohen, and their fans, from removing the onerous malignment of Yankees as "The Evil Empire," by moving it to the Mets, Dodgers, and Padres, in which our Yanks are but secondary participants. It's time to separate the chaff from the wheat, by providing our team with a more well rounded team, that experience has proven, can win us our 28th World Series, which the freeing up of millions of dollars can provide. GO YANKS!
We’ll always be the New York fucking Yankees. Let’s go, move on and Hal, thank you for proving me and everyone wrong that you will spend and you do care as an owner!

It’s obvious Soto didn’t want to be a Yankee and was using the Yankees and the other 3 teams to drive up Cohen’s offer. This is a new era in baseball and the Yankees can’t no longer be that team that pays the most to top players. They have to get the right players that want to play for the Yankees and show up in the post season. I think the WS debacle left a bad taste in Soto’s mouth and he made his decision after that. The interview with him right after game 5 was giving the world a hint that he wasn’t going to be a Yankee.
Agreed. He used the Yankees to showcase his talent on a bigger stage than a lesser team. He basically lied about loving the Yankees and fan base, Can't wait for the boo birds to greet him at the Stadium.
He has the right to decide which team presented the best future. That is his right. So we should feel pleased to have the opportunity to watch him perform. We also lost several pitching prospects by trading for him. Life in the real world. Congrats to Soto but let’s move on in a positive manner
@donald. What prospects did we loose in the Soto trade. We lost Michael King. THE Prospects we lost are medicore at best. So it was a good trade. Our starting erotatuon is way better than the Mets. In addition, they do not have anybody close to a Judge to hit behind Soto, who had his best year teaming with Judge. Soto left fir 5 million dollars and a signing bonus. Clearly he was all about money. Jason is right, the Mets think their best in NY after one good year. Hal did his best, time to put resources to better use. All the Mets have is a greedy rich owner who will do anything to get what he wants. This contract does reflect this players overall talents. You can't argue that.
@ we lost basques, prito and drew Thorpe. I am a long time Yankee fan but no longer does everyone want to play for the Yanks. Cashman is to arrogant and we need to develop a better long range plans. Prospects we get they screw around with their minds. Give them two games and then send them down. Changes need to be made I want to see them in the Series every year
@donaldburton8276 Thorpe is really not that good. Loosing Soto had nothing to do with Cashman. He wanted the most money. I have been a Yankee fan since 1960. So I'm sorry they really didn't loose anyone in the Soto trade. A trade they had to do. They lost King which I hated but as far as the prospects actually no one of note.
@ true, but would u like the yanks to sign Pete Alonso to play 1st? I’m guessing not. They need more than a few. But, I they have to be the right type.
I have no hard feelings toward Juan Soto, I thank him for a wonderful year of exciting play. I wish he had a reason to stay besides money, but only a year here isn’t enough incentive for him to take less. Good luck to him, he is a generational talent, and good luck to the Mets. Now they need to find players with the money they aren’t spending on him. First base, third base (move Jazz to second), right field, left field, bull pen, and even starting pitching ALL need more attention.
Juan Soto sold his soul to greediness. The Metropolitans have huge holes and the Yankees will secure their needs to improving the team. Jasson Dominguez, Caleb Durbin, Max Fried, Corbin Burnes, Devon Williams, and Christian Walker with Walker Buehler, as this will be the greatest off season for the Yankees going into 2025.
Steinbrenner and Cashman did absolutely everything they could do. Not holding anything against them they went all out. Hopefully Juan Soto will be in the Bobby Bonilla plan in a few years.
I want a player who can be very rich, and also have loyalty to his teammates and fans. Not just a transactional player, who only wants to be rich. Good luck to the Mets and the fans...they will understand with his first opt out . Judge is a Yankee..Ohtani is a Dodger. He may wear a Met uniform, but he isnt a Met at heart...only in his pocket! He has walked on many teams.
I think the Yankees dodged a bullet. Sure, I would have loved to have had Soto stay with Yankees, but not at that price. Yanks have an opportunity to fix their team now. Go get Walker, get another starter, and if you can swing Bellinger to play CF (so Judge can go back to RF), go get him as well.
Jason, totally agree. Lets move on. The biggest pricetag in sports history, lets hope he doesnt get hurt and just sit there making money. Did he do his mets homework? Does he know the Mets are not a winning team? Last time they went to the playoffs? 2024 ? Lol. He chose the money over loyalties. Next year baseball will be interesting. Have fun Soto!
@michaelhelton3805 he praised them all year. Loved the organization blah blah blah. I'm glad he's gone. We don't need him. Cohen rebuilt them to do what?they don't get to playoffs every year. Last year they went to the word series 1986?lol

Ive been saying he was signing with the Mets from get go. We don't need Soto and 760 million is utterly ridiculous for a player. However, Idk of the Yankees are going to go out and get what we need. I have no confidence in them anymore.
In my opinion we dodged a bullet. His bat great.... Everything else trash... So lets use this money to have a more balanced team. Get to work Cashman. That contract will be an albatross around the Mets necks from year 6 on. He will be a full-time DH. No thank you....
What a huge BLESSING for the Yankee organization and fans. Go look at his interview when he signed with the Yankees and his comments the last game-all about him. His character definitely would not have fit in with those in Monument park. Sorry Mets fans, he has no love for you either. Enjoy those expensive tickets and $15 beers.
I’m disappointed, but not angry. Hal went after him made a huge effort. But at some point you just have to say enough. He went higher than I expected. It was reported and I expected Soto to go for the highest AAV. Soto, unlike Judge, didn’t come up through the Yankee system. He owed nothing to the Yankees for the Yankee fans to expect any discount. He played hard and had a great season the year he was in NY. His best season. So Sayonara Jaun Soto, enjoy the money.
I'm not mad, he earned the right for free agency and went with the money and obviously where he wanted to be. Let's move on and field a competitive team next year and in the years to come
Pivot moves 1) Sign Max Fried 2) Sign Tanner Scott 3) Trade for Bellinger + Nico Hoerner/Seiya Suzuki 4) consider Gleyber Torres at the right price (short term deal) 5) sign at least 2 of Bregman/Alonso/Walker/Goldy/Santana/Teoscar/Burnes
I would hope Fans have faith that the Yankees FO is not incompetent and had contingiency plans already laid out if Soto signed elsewhere , If that is the case deals should start to roll out from the Winter meetings . I am a Cubs Guy and from an unbiased outside view the total of that contract is far beyond the worth of the Player but large Market Teams can absorb it but it will affect their future roster construction especially when the Empire strikes back in the next CBA because Mid and small Market owners are going to dig in hard now
So long, Juan. A $5 million difference at that kind of money isn't a money thing, it's an ego thing. He already has even at at 200 million more than he should be able to spend in several lifetimes. Hope he enjoys short playoff runs, congratulations! Hal absolutely did his job here.
@161riverave.4 yeah, 100%. In fact, I would say he overbid by a lot. That's okay, though, it's what many fans wanted. My only complaint will be if he doesn't take that same amount of money or close to it and go get several pieces that we need.
It's time to move on. We need a stud closer above all else. Let's hope that Cashman has been very proactive throughout this process working on our other needs, which you alluded to Jason. I much prefer Judge in RF anyway for obvious reasons. We will overcome this, we are the Yankees!
Whoever our Yankees get this off season, a major thing they've stopped doing & they were known for, was waiting a pitcher out! Always swinging at 1st pitch. Bang. Double plays galore! Men stranded on base continuously. Coaching must drill this into their heads like in the 4 Core years. Soto who? ☠️
I'm glad that's over! Time to move on and sign a good starter, closer and big bat! I really don't think soto is worth judge money! He's really just a dh!
I spend alot of $$$ to go to the games but i am not mad at all with Steinbrenner..He did what he could and being a Yankee meant absolutely nothing to Soto..He treated them like he never played here..I also know Soto's contract would be alot more painful for the Yankees than the Mets...He saw after signing him the Yankees couldn't just keep on spending and spending while Cohen can..That's why he saw a better future with the Mets..Go build a well rounded team now..
Jason, Great channel. I cannot fault Hal Steinbrenner for not landing Soto he gave top dollar to Soto. Soto went for top dollar and I think he did not want to be under Judges shadow unfortunately. Sad Judge and Soto made a great one two punch together. I would not mind Yankees looking into Vlad Guerrero Jr. but he will be a free agent after next season. I like Cody Bellinger but without Soto here it loses it's juice for me. Not the best but I kind of like the outfield of Judge in right field, Grisham for his defense in centerfield, and Jasson Dominguez in left field. I think they should trade Spencer Jones for somebody good also and not hold on to him too long like Florial.
I've been saying that the Yankees didn't need to wait on Soto, there are other areas that need to be addressed. Soto saga is over, we need to move on other players
Now, I'd go get either Burnes or Fried, Walkwr for 1B, and either Santander/Hernandez or trade for bellinger and still spend probably less than half of the $760 million they offered Soto! He clearly just cared about the money and didn't wanna be here.
Hi Jason, while I am disappointed of course this actually gives the Yankees more opportunities. I have two suggestions - one is slash and burn - sign both fried and burned trade rest of pitchers for position players including Bellinger and McCann of Colorado. The other is more practical - sign 1 of 2 - Max Fried or Corbin Burnes , Bregman and Hernandez or Profar. Try to get players with no international money attached. Trades for bullpen.
3 deals to address the lineup. Trades for Bellinger and Yandy Díaz and sign Profar. Yandy for first, Profar for 2nd, and Cody for CF. Keep it strategic and tactical. Bigger moves to make down the road at the trade deadline and next year’s FA class - I.e. Tucker, Schwarber, Vlad, etc. If you throw big money now, let it be for pitchers.
It hurt so bad to lose him but i cant blame hal. I didint even expect him to reach 700m with his offer. It’ll take a little bit but ill move on from it. Belli, walker, burnes or fried. Maybe tanner scott.

In my opinion we dodged a bullet. His bat great.... Everything else trash... So lets use this money to have a more balanced team. Get to work Cashman. That contract will be an albatross around the Mets necks from year 6 on. He will be a full-time DH. No thank you....
Soto is not in any way better than Judge who wanted to be a Yankee.
🤣🤣👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻Bingo!!
Thanks for your time much appreciated bro.
THanks for the video 161 as always :-)
Ok move on and re build . It was a great season with Soto . Its BB . Lets see how the yanks fix the issues
Love the Yankees they will be fine let’s go Yankees faithful
Dead to me? Wow 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Let’s not forget to thank Hal and the NYY for their effort. That should not be overlooked. Now let’s build a better team.
Pitching first base outfielder second base and bullpen that's what the Yankees need
Watch Yankees win the World Series in 2025
I don’t think so we might be a last place team next season
I've thought about that last night, but I don't think they will be in the playoffs next year unfortunately
I'm not mad, he earned the right for free agency and went with the money and obviously where he wanted to be. Let's move on and field a competitive team next year and in the years to come
Why don’t we focus on developing our farm system.
Do you think they spend $760M on plan B this offseason? Thats where fans will be mad is if they go cheap after missing out on Soto.
no. there is no need to.
I think it's fantastic they didn't get saddled with that albatross
Pivot moves 1) Sign Max Fried 2) Sign Tanner Scott 3) Trade for Bellinger + Nico Hoerner/Seiya Suzuki 4) consider Gleyber Torres at the right price (short term deal) 5) sign at least 2 of Bregman/Alonso/Walker/Goldy/Santana/Teoscar/Burnes
Yup whatever let's move on and build this roster now great job to Hal and Brian they did their job
Signing Max to 8 years is pivoting intelligently OK if you say so 😂😂😂
Plenty of money to get good players who want to play for yankees.
I agree 100%. Hal did all he could.
@161riverave.4 yeah, 100%. In fact, I would say he overbid by a lot. That's okay, though, it's what many fans wanted. My only complaint will be if he doesn't take that same amount of money or close to it and go get several pieces that we need.
Hey Jason the crazy part about the Soto thing is he had a better lineup in better pitching in Sd they didn’t win crap he is going to regret this
Soto already has a ring now gets to play with Lindor and possibly Vlad next season
Jason you are awesome
Much appreciated man
Insane contract. Great player but still overpay. Yankees need help at several positions, ie first base, left hand pitching, LF, etc.
It's time to move on. We need a stud closer above all else. Let's hope that Cashman
has been very proactive throughout this process working on our other needs, which
you alluded to Jason. I much prefer Judge in RF anyway for obvious reasons. We will
overcome this, we are the Yankees!
I thought Weaver is our closer?
Redsox fan here schocked went to Mets.
😂sounds like sour grapes to me 😂😂😂
Jason, Great channel.
Doesn’t who they trade for or sign, they are not Soto..
Mets fan, dragging my balls through this chat!!!
75 million signing bonus Cohen had to use ridiculous money to beat Hal
Cashman needs to be aggressive now. Several holes to fill, and the Yankees need high-quality players...not mid-range discounted projects.
The bottom line is... He did not want to be the # 2 guy. Judge #1 guy... Now he can be the # 1 guy in Queens.... Lmao good luck!
Corbin Burnes and/or Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, Christian Walker, Tanner Scott, and maybe somebody to platoon with Caleb Durbin at second base.
Burnes ,Sasaki, Bellinger,Arias and a closer will make me forget this nightmare quite easily 🤣
Unfortunately Yankees might end up with nobody
Weaver.
The Yankees can’t use there name anymore players want to be paid
The dodgers has the highest payroll and still go for big players and won a title
WOW Jason this news was not what I expected
I wish I were a fly in the wall in that negotiation!
I’m good with it.
The NL is absurd. Especially if the Dodgers get Roki. If that happens…
I knew it was going to take at least $750 million.
Im not pissed. If he wanted to stay, Im sure Hal would have matched the offer. He never wanted to be here.
When the Mets offered a potentially a 800 million dollar contract, Soto is going to take the contract and I dont blame him. Time for plan b
4th round compensatory pic... YES!!!! We win!!!
As much as I want to have him on the team but that kind of money is ridiculous. They Yankees can put a championship team together, for less money
Yankees made same offer, He didn't want to be a Yankee
No they didn’t the Mets contract could end up over $800 million
$75 million signing bonus!
It hurt so bad to lose him but i cant blame hal. I didint even expect him to reach 700m with his offer. It’ll take a little bit but ill move on from it. Belli, walker, burnes or fried. Maybe tanner scott.
I never wanted Soto and I’ve said that on here before and I’m also saying Judge ain’t ever getting his ring.
