- PlayStation marches to the beat of their own drum without a doubt. Their willingness to be quiet often frustrates the fanbase but coming off the heels of a State of Play that was expected to be a PlayStation Showcase of 2024 a section of the fanbase is concerned while another is seemingly mad. News of Astrobot and Lego Horizon Adventures are being met with mixed receptions and most want to know more about first party bigger releases as well as Spider-Man 2 DLC,

Sony has to know how good Xbox show was
This isn’t really that difficult of a question if you think about it logically.
I’m of the opinion that Sony’s holding back their major announcements for a full-blown September showcase, at which time they will unveil the PS5 Pro with a huge slate first-party and second-party games coming to PS5 with PS5 Pro enhancements.
It makes sense that Sony would want to capitalise on their biggest IP’s in order to sell PS5 Pro systems.
I therefore wouldn’t be surprised if we get a longer term roadmap of what to expect as we see out the letter end of this generation, which by the time the PS5 Pro releases, will be between 3-4 years.
Although I also think Sony will hold a few surprises back as well.
They should fire Shawne Benson, the last two showcases were bad.
Games will be revealed next year.
I don't see how a licensed Lego game going to Switch is anything bad.
It would be different if they'd put their main franchises like Horizon itself on other consoles, including PC.
Simple: they have nothing to show.

I agree-Sony is setting up to hit hard the 2nd half of this generation with the Pro and so many unannounced games. This will let them go in super strong as we enter the PS6 generation.
I’m very sceptical about that. Sony has lost its way. PlayStation has no 😢games until 2025 /26. In the meanwhile Xbox will be shoving out tons of games Sony has lost.
I’ve been having a blast this year with FF, Rise of the Ronin, Helldivers 2, and Stellar Blade. Add to that Black Myth, Warhammer, and Astrobot and I’ll be very busy.

No one is buying ps5 exclusives either. Hell it took the PC community to make HellDivers a success. If it wasn’t for them buying the majority that game would’ve flatlined. Point is the old model isn’t working anymore. Exclusivity will slowly go away it’s just not sustainable anymore.

The answer is Sony similar to Nintendo does things at there own pace. you don't need to chalk up win when your already so far out ahead. Sony are almost certainly holding back there first party announcements for the rumored PS5 Pro showcase in September.

Just let me correct you with one thing: Sony is not focusing on games like Lego Horizon and Astrobot. These games are all that they have on the table right now. Let's face the facts here.
They've announced games that haven't released yet so the idea this this is all they have doesn't compute as the games haven't been canceled and are still getting updates on progress. We know they have more and that is what has people so upset about the fact that Sony is deliberately not showing these games. Personally I support them in not showing games for 2025 and beyond when they have games that are being released right now. They already have several games release on PS and packing a showcase with future titles only detracts from the games that are releasing now! A game like Astrobot or Lego Horizon can get lost in the shuffle of major announcements and focusing on what they have coming now instead of coming soon they allow their games to breathe rather than step on each other as Sony games tend to compete with each other vs other games or other platforms. A byproduct of MS not having games now to compete with Sony.
I think the failure of a lot of projects has much to do with it. Like we would have gotten Last Of Us multiplayer at that State Of Play had it not been cancelled. Etc. But, add the alleged PS5 Pro showcase to that, both of those things in the same window compounds it. Personally, I already have a backlog from last year lol. So, I salute them for stopping production on games that would not be up to far, rather than pulling a Starfield / Hellblade and just putting it out. Horizon, Ghost, GOW Valhalla, FF7 set the bar VERY HIGH.

Lost their way *temporarily* I would say. That live service push really set them back hard I think. It’ll take some time for them to recover from that, but I believe they will return to form.

I will never understand the demand for Showcases and State of Plays. As if new game trailers didn't come out every single week. As if most people gave a hoot about what first party studios are working on. As if they knew the difference between a first party, second part, and third party studio. I simply can't get excited about a game coming out in 2026. I don't see why PlayStation bothers with Showcases when the feedback is always raging disappointment and anger that the female characters are either too attractive or not attractive enough.

I’m a late PS5 adopter. Therefore, I have plenty of first party games I’m still going through. I’m hopeful they have a showcase. If they do, I’m happy with Astro Bot, Lego Horizon, and maybe the Spider Man DLC just for this year alone. Now I speak from a circumstance that’s unique to me due to my backlog. Love this channel.
They're saving everything for their showcase in September. That's when they'll be announcing the release date of the PS5 Pro and drop a bunch of trailers. I'd assume Spiderman 2 DLC trailer there. Ghost of Tsushima 2, Wolverine, and other first parties will be there as well I'm sure.

I think people forget or fail to realize just how huge zenimax or activision are. Microsoft pretty much own a HUGE portion of the market. Sony put a lot of effort into service games, which many didnt work out and thus wasted years of development. As a result of those two things this happened. A lack of games from sony, or the huge 3rd party games it would of gotten. It's pretty easy to figure out what happened.

Yeah Bloomberg just published a report saying this is actually the case. They’re not showing anything because they don’t have anything to show. They wasted so much time and money on the GaaS initiative in which they ended up canceling half of them and it also resulted in the closing of multiple Studios. It’s gonna be slim Pickens from their first party studios for the next couple years and the Pro isn’t going to help that. On that note, you’d think they would’ve learned from last gen and realized that refreshes aren’t very good. They’ll always be cpu limited and provide minimal benefits. They’ll sell some at the beginning but without supporting software to take advantage of what little benefits it will provide, sales for that will fall off faster then you can say PSVR2 and then they’re gonna be up against Microsoft’s rumored Zen 5/RDNA 4 machine two years later with a stacked roadmap and COD in their back pocket. Not a rosy outlook.

It's not complex, Sony have given their developers control of when they reveal and start marketing a game. Naughty Dog have said they won't reveal their next game until close to launch and the other Devs will probably be the same
Their recent showcases and state of plays have all been focused on a 12 month window
Xbox on the other hand are happy to reveal stuff 5 years away and have everyone working towards a mid year showcase
Detective Seeds says he has contacts at three first party studios . I can see that , seems like a nice guy that would have an easy time making friends. He did mention that Sony also has a new controller coming. Not sure if it’s the one with the larger battery.
Sony sees no reason why they shouldn't give their first party all the time they need to make the games as good as possible.
They've had great 3rd party exclusives covering gaps, and they already know all the Xbox games that are coming over. Just let them cook

I think your being a bit generous with them, I'd find your take on their lack of games more believable if they were'nt so obssessed with the live service crap. Sony typically does'nt stop doubling down until their ego has been drastically humbled, now this very well could've happened and maybe your even right about the showcase. However their not inspiring that level of faith right now especially after that State of Play. I'd love to be wrong as I do love the playstation consoles very much, but I also know Sony and I won't ease up when they behave the way they have been.
Obsessed with live service? I’ve played two exclusives just this year for a bunch of hours. Ronin and Stellar Blade.
@@ReforgeGaming Dude that showcase you mentioned and this current state of play was filled with nothing but live service garbage. The only interesting thing about the showcase was Sonic X shadow, and for the state of play it was Monster Hunter and Astrobot. Astrobot especialy sticks out because it's not just hyper realistic generic graphics but a game with actual art style and looks fun to play. That is a game that should've been out within the first year or two of the PS5, and this is my point Sony's priorites are not where they need to be for me to believe they've got some big blow out of unique and fun looking games just sitting on the shelf. I could buy that with Nintendo absolutely but not Sony.

And I will stand by they never should've released the PS5 during the pandemic, that disatrous launch is biting them in the ass hard. If they were truly interested in playing the long game they would not have rushed out the ps5 in the first place. How they expected good results on a lackluster launch year and at a time when everything was closed down is still so stupid and baffeling. If your a true Sony fan you won't just blindly agree with everything they do and actually question their scummy behavior. NO ONE is above making bad decisions and Sony especially needs to be called out when they make one.

Quiet? They're releasing Astrobit thus year! It's been my most anticipated game since Rescue Mission.
After I played ratchet and clank rift apart I thought that we'd get a new adventure with ratchet, clank, rivet and kit it'd be great to have our 2 lombax and robot have a new adventure together.
They can't they have spiderman 2 dlc, venom game, and wolverine game. They will surely bring them back when the PS5 pro releases. To showcase the rifts on a grander scale. Insomniac is dope like that. Hoping to resistance fall of man remake with the multiplayer attached again.
They're coming but Insomniac is working on a lot of Marvel games right now. Spiderman, Wolverine, Venom, and the X-Men game are ahead of Ratchet. They had a timeline leak earlier this year.
And don't forget about the hacking of wolverine, people are not thinking straight in the gaming industry right now. Next ps5 showcase put the seatbelt on .

Genuine question - why does Sony need to do a Showcase “when expected”? (Not saying @ReforgeGaming implied this, just in general I’m putting it out there).
Going to play Devil’s Advocate here and point out two things:
1. Covid kind of broke the showcase rhythm we had in the gaming industry for years. GK has brought it back to some normalcy with his mid-year and end-of-year shows, but breaking away from the cycle is totally fine. Nintendo did it almost 2 decades ago.
2. Following up on the first point but separately - Sony seems to have hit a good rhythm in their own right on announcing games, to showing progress of previously announced games, to accelerating marketing in year of release, to announcing a release date about 2-6 months prior to release. In establishing this (and just recently I think MS has realized this and is starting to imitate the strategy) they can essentially set their own rhythm for Showcases and State of Plays and whatever else they want to do. Like Nintendo, they have established their own method and broke away from the norm. Unlike Nintendo, they are staying in the high powered premium console market. And since they dominate right now, anything they do, others will have to follow.
Can they do no wrong? No, they certainly can. They have earned the power though right now to almost redefine a lot of things, including that rhythm.

For the first time, PlayStation hardware and software are under different CEOs. That in itself tells me we're going to see a greater focus on other platforms. People always say, "Nintendo doesn't compete with PlayStation." I guess Sony agrees.
They don't two completely different markets. They are both good dual consoles to have in the household. Adult console, kid console. It doesn't make sense for Sony to compete against a different market. Xbox is their true competitor in the same market. Which Sony dominates currently.

Blows my mind none of you don’t see this, it’s a masterwork from PlayStation. In pairing up with Lego which they already have. (There is a HZD tallneck Lego set out already) and now more to come I’m sure.
Basically this Game is a Trojan Horse or gateway drug. They release Lego HFW on Switch, for when kids age out of Nintendo and start looking for a more mature system like an Xbox or PS, They will see or know that the original is on PS or PC, and may gently nudge them in that direction rather than say a Xbox. Especially with most or some Xbox exclusives coming to PS5 anyway. It makes it “the best place to play”

What these bots fail to understand. Unlike xbox, Sony doesn't do early reveals. They show games close to date. We saw many examples of that.

So far this year, PlayStation console exclusives have been FF VII Rebirth, hell divers 2, Ronin, and Stellar Blade. That is a very strong lineup. Also, for the second half of the year Playstion lucked into a console-timed exclusive with Black Myth without even paying for it. Sony is crushing it because most video game fans don't know the difference between first party, second party and 3rd party games. They just know PS is the only console they can play those games on.
