  • This video shows the techniques to start this Bedfordshire bobbin lace bookmark, which was inspired by movement in water, bubbles and swimming pool lane ropes. It involves starting in both directions and shows how to work the Bedfordshire buds, adding pairs and working the twisted gimp down the middle of the wave.

Watching this video for the second time, enjoying it more than the first time, for having advanced 2 years in my lacemaking experience (bolstered, in no small part, by your instructional videos 🙂). I miss not seeing new videos from you, but love the "classic" ones!!! Thank you for sharing your expertise!

After bereavement things are never going to be the same again, but very slowly learning to cope. The next ones are beginners videos for torchon patterns launching this week.

Thanks for posting this. Am definitely going to try this. Looks great. Can I ask when you say you coloured in the different sections at the start. What did you use to ensure this colour does not transfer to the thread? Sorry if that is a silly question- still very much a beginner!

Thanks for the comment. I used a brush pen, coloured it in and made sure it was dry before using. As long as it’s dry when you start and you keep the pillow dry, you shouldn’t have a problem. You can ask for waterproof pens but few suppliers can tell whether they are waterproof. I usually go for the artist quality ones, which although are more expensive, you can buy individually and you only need a couple of colours, to represent cloth stitch and half stitch and so often no more than a cheap set. Colouring in helps you see the design, and if you aren’t sure whether you will like the design (if there’s no picture for example) colouring in a photocopy before making the pricking will usually help you decide. It also helps you to start understanding the pattern.
