Hi Shannon. I’ve been learning tin whistle for 3 months and youtube’s algorithm suggested your videos to me. I love listening to your playing and hearing your advice on musicality and phrasing etc. Singing the melody is a fantastic tip you give for learning. I do this when I’m working things out on the guitar. Going to give the flute a go when I get the chance. You play so beautifully that you have inspired me. Thank you!
In a few days my first flute will arrive, a new challenge for me. I am a player of different types of bagpipes (Catalan bagpipe-sac de gemecs, bagpipe of gascony-boha, and Scottish smallpipe) I will follow your advice to get started in the Irish flute
I'll bet you will have ease and great enjoyment on the flute, coming from the pipes! Ease the initial hurdle of making a tone by enlisting the help of a seasoned player (who can weigh in on efficient embouchure). And learn tunes with ample breathing points from the start. That should make it manageable. Good luck!

it's because we were working so hard to be safe on the stair case (which didn't have a railing at the time). Just a bit of danger appears to be good for rhythmic lift!
Don't know if I am going to teach anyone to suck eggs here. No offence, but here goes. I use the, 'clip' icon to capture the beginning and end of each phrase, Shannon plays, and put tit on replay until I get the phrase into my head. You can do this on reduced playback speed, and I find watching Shannon's fingers too, and even play silently, following Shannon's fingers and diddling the tune in my head, which I find very helpful. Hope this may be helpful to someone. One bite of pie at a time. Love your voice and your style. I kind of have the opinion you are also a great singer.
