That’s my homework for this evening. We used to play this with the Pride of Petravore at sessions. Dunmore Lasses first mid tempo and Eileen Oge ( Pride of Petravore ) faster . Not sure why those two together but it seemed to work . Great tutorial. Tapadh leibh.
Hi Shannon! You reminded me of tunes...this tune...we used to,play in Toronto years ago! Thanks for this. I’ll relearn based on your version. One question....can you suggest one or two reels to come after that keep the character and flow/ groove of the dunmore lasses? Thanks! Michael Ps our session aims for that flow, not necessarily speed...the nyah. 😎
Great to be reminded of an old favorite, Michael! As for building a set with that tune, lots of things could flow from Dunmore Lasses. I'd take care with the change, to get me seamlessly from one tune to the next: * If I were going into an A Minor reel that starts on an E (like the Rainy Day), I'd end Dunmore ACBA GEFD ... to get me into EAAG A- * If I were going into a G reel that starts on G (like the Traveller), I'd end Dunmore ACBA GEEF... to get me into G-BG dGBG * If I were going into a D Major reel that starts on an D (like Devanney's Goat), I'd end Dunmore ACBA GEFE... to get me into DFAB AFAB Let us know what you come up with!
Love the videos- they're very helpful! I struggle to identify the up/down beat and where to emphasize. I've also been told I tongue too much - any thoughts on resources for how to identify how to know where/when to tongue (or not) or how to know which beats to emphasize?
Good question. Hmmm. If you're really putting your heart on where the downbeat is (and then feeling the upbeat pulse against that), perhaps taking the tonging out of things is a good way to streamline your focus. THEN try for some articulation once you've got that?
You speak like a pro presenter-weather girl-conference speaker 😎 Shannon, by any luck do you know any video of someone playing a fairly common reel with the metronome? Thanks and see you Saturday 😉
Haha on being a weather girl. Maybe that can be a Plan B career move, if we aren't able to do live concerts again soon.... A video of someone working on a tune with a metronome? Interesting idea. Don't know of one. Maybe I'll do it...
@@ShannonHeatonMusic Oh, I'll pray so that you can be payed for gigs again very soon 😮 I saw Máiréad Ní Mhaonaigh giving music lessons on the Internet. I guess it can be a temporary solution for independent musical artists. I forgot which platform she uses. I actually saw 2-3 videos with a metronome of tunes but they are over 10 years old and the sound quality is below average of nowadays. I bet some of your private students use digital smartphone metronomes too, right? I use them for warming up at the beginning of a session doing scales but can't play a reel or jig with it, at least with confidence. I tried a few times but wasn't doing a good job. Damn, if you'd make one I would be extremely grateful, Shannon. Hope you're OK. Take care, you and your little family 😉 Pokoù trouz! X
I love your tune of the month series! It had inspired me and made it so much fun to pick up my trad flute again after several years. Just a small suggestion- could you flip the videos as if they are mirrored so that it’s easier to follow along with your finger work when watching?
interesting idea on the video flipping. I'm so accustomed to watching people and "translating," that it might look to me like it's flipped around/confusing. But I'll try it. Thanks, Carolyn.
Hi Shannon, I appreciate your approach to breaking this tune down into shorter phrases and then into longer phrases. One question, can you offer any guidance on when you decide to cross-finger the C natural vs use the C key. I see in the video you do use the C key. Thanks
Hi, Jan. I use whichever C fingering feels easiest in the context of the tune. If I'm coming down from a d, C natural with the cross finger is easiest. If I'm coming from a B and then heading back down, the C key is handy.
Another fine tune, brilliant teaching, no need to look for different versions, just great - THX
thanks for checking it out!
Shannon, that was gorgeous. Love and peace from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you for the encouragement! Love back to you from Boston
Thank you you’re a fantastic teacher 😊
so glad the lesson resonates with you!
We're just about to add this to our learner's session and this video will come in handy!
Planning to pair it up after Fred Finn's
Great! Have fun playing it. And glad you will be pairing it with a D tune. That's a nice change.
Another favourite of mine. Thank you
yay, I love it, too!
Thanks for making this series
Thanks for stopping by. So happy to connect with all these folks learning Irish music!
thanks!! I love your style and way of teaching. Greetings from Chile :)
hello, Rodrigo! So glad you enjoy the teaching, and thanks for stopping by,

Where can I get access to the complete series?
