He played hockey when he lived in Canada and basically playing hockey made him feel safe and made him feel like he was at home. It was a copeing mechanism

The sad part is how people now start to change their way of seeing him after he expressed the way everyone made him feel. I second you watching the SNL version ... he could hardly look up during the lonely part when he sang it but it was perfect pitch despite the emotion... just heartbreaking. No obvious autotune either is a huge step foe him to show any flaws in his voice. Love this song, perfect for him to do.
Justin has been training for years, most likely everything you hear from his voice while singing is controlled, I've been hearing him on acoustics and acapellas for years now and this boy has a gift... you don't get to be the most famous singer kid for no reason... but yeah, he's not perfect for sure a throat is a throat at the end of the day

As a mental health professional, this song broke my heart. I think one of the most heartbreaking things when it comes to the mental health these days is the lack of prevention. Sure, genetic predispositions and a combination of life experiences can lead to mental health issues; however, I feel we don't spend as much time actually talking about mental health like we should. There are so many ugly things that, as a society, people don't want to talk about when it comes to mental health. Instead, we spread our resources thin to provide support for the deteriorating society we live in from the aftermath of issues, never once working on preventing them before they happen. There's so much wrong with this country (the U.S.) when it comes to addressing mental health. Those of you out there struggling, just know you're not alone. There are MH professionals like myself that are trying their best to help get rid of the stigma, as well as educating people on the various aspects of mental health that are often misunderstood. I've been on both sides of treatment--you're not alone.

This song is just incredible. The song itself sounds really good, but the meaning. The meaning is so so powerful. How many celebrities do we have to see struggle or die before we realize it isn't all about the money and the fame? When people talk about needs in life (food, water, shelter) some also throw love in there. I think it has to be in there. Love and understanding is so huge. How can we even begin to understand the life that he lived. In the era we live in, social media and whatnot, he could not be a kid. He couldn't play hockey with his friends without paparazzi outside trying to get the newest and best photos of him. He couldn't go to school where you make friends and learn from one another. He truly lived such a unique, and probably highly isolated life. People shit on this kid for so many years and a person can only take so much. I am beyond impressed with the song and the music video. Great breakdown, man. You always understand the layers that most people can't even comprehend. Kudos to you.
