The Toy Story franchise holds a special place in the hearts of many Pixar fans. Now that we are getting a fourth movie, I had to go back and rewatch the other three and I noticed something tragic during the incinerator scene. No, not just the idea that the characters I love were going to perish but the fact that, if you watch all the movies very closely, you notice that the toys are pretty much immortal. Look at Sid's toys: They were mangled and manipulated to the point where you could barely see what they originally were, yet they were STILL ALIVE! why don't the toys just rise up and take over the world? plus how does every toy know that around people they have to play dead? is there a set of rules implanted in their brain, like an instinct?
Probably the first toys to keep themselves safe from humans thinking they were demonic entities or something. Anyone or anything who isn’t seen as being able to be controlled is automatically seen as a threat and I could see that not being an exception with the toys. That is a very interesting question though!

I find it funny how he predicted toy story 4 ending with Woody having to choose either staying with boe or going back with his friend's, but he chose wrong and went with the second option because of pixar's greed and the first option ultimately sealing the fate of toy story 4 being the end, thus making a toy story 5 impossible
Honestly, that might be funny, but the toy story 4 ending made me depressed, even almost two years later i find it sad

I think what makes toy story 4s message so much stronger is that it completely flips the whole "Make kid happy or else" thing on it's head. It looks beyond just making a kid happy, it shows toys as their own character.
I like how he could make a video on how every food is recycled from your wastes and have a good explanation and it would still end in "but hey that's a theory a game theory" saying that even though he terrorized your childhood and basically gave you mental and physical depression and anxiety ruining your entire life, He's just joking around and he isn't just a psychopath who scars people live on TV or something

I have never been sad over a game theory video, I was always like "whatever" or "that's even more interesting" but THIS...this destroyed me.

You know, there was a Monsters Inc. Comic book that had a crossover event with Toy Story. Sid was jumping through doors to steal kids toys to "protect them". The monsters didn't believe him when he said they were alive, so they just sent him back home.
As a kid watching all his videos I love this guy

I am probably one of few who don't have any good childhood memories with those Disney movies. I can only say that they were easily forgetable mediocre films, cus I can barely remember what actually happens in them, let alone have any emotional attatchment to them. To my knowledge Matpat is just making them worth remembering, making them interesting.

I don't really have a problem with this format, but this may be the single most useless nobody I've ever seen in my life and it's hilarious.
I always figured w/o humans around the "life force" given to the toys would run out and they'd just fade away

(TLDR: The more you think about how the premise of toys being sentient is presented during the films, the less it really holds together logically... but I still love TS 1-3! 😆 Haven't seen TS4, tbh not sure I want to?)

Given the discarded toys on the front of the dump truck in TS3 don't seem to be talking anymore, I initially though perhaps toys fade from consciousness without a kid's attention. But that seems to be kinda contradicted by the Roundup Gang in TS2? Stinky Pete never had a kid yet seems to be alive, and Jesse's playtime was a long time ago but she's still conscious throughout. Is their sentience just being sustained by Big Al's obsession, as MatPat seems to briefly suggest in this vid?
But then there's those maimed green army men from TS1 - presumably it's been a while since since Sid played with aka killed them, & he's clearly not paying attention to them now... so are they still aware? Or is it more like "zombie" toys, having faded away but then somehow revived by Woody? I don't think they're actually suffering mind you - Woody's reaction to the magnifying glass burn seems to be mostly just panic over-reaction, given he and Buzz both lose an arm without harm. (Although - if fire is death...?? 🤔😬)
In contrast, the Zorg figure & New!Buzz from Big Al's Toy Barn seem to become active/sentient in TS2 just by being in the vicinity of Andy's toys (or possibly the obsessive Al), with zero kids involved, whilst the rest of their toystore compatriots presumably stay boxed & inanimate. So is this toy sentience more like a contagious virus that's spread by close contact/proximity?
There doesn't seem to be any true logical consistency to be honest, but the movies are still great fun and otherwise very well made 😏
@@anna_in_aotearoa3166 I will say the toy store is easily explained by kids wandering in and out, I also don't think it has to be kids just some sort of focus or interaction with them from humans in n general (ie. Not just sitting on a shelf as decoration or a truck grill)...as for the zombie soldiers that rise out of the mud could be the mere presence of cid that keeps them barely conscious and/or the other toys energized them either on purpose or simply by being present

I’ve kind of always noticed this and it’s made me think deep thoughts about how my own childhood toys are probably going to have 4 options: going to someone I know, going to a thrift store, getting worn to the point where they are broken useless, or are just thrown away anyway, or sitting in a box in a storage unit until I either die and my kids do one of the three previous options or they do that before I die when I’m really old.
This is why I used to get existential crisis whilst watching every Toy Story movie. It has really dark background, that I couldn't unsee. I had same theories actually as a kid. I was really skeptical about the existence of these toys.

The interesting thing about this is that while the toys are given life against their will, the life is also given to the toy against the will of the kid.
Neither party is consenting in this creation of life and one of the two parties is never even aware of the fact that the other has been given life by them.

I found that movie almost more touching cuz my friends and I were going through a transitional period of our own and we related to that movie so much that we all started crying

Just picture it. If the world of the Toy Story franchise were to ever were to have a toy uprising, the humans would all die. You can't kill a toy. You cannot slow them down. They are immortal sentient beings that hold a grudge. When I was a little girl - around two or three, I believed toys were ALIVE. I was scared of them. I try to fling em' around and jump up n' down on their squishy little heads, but the toys still looked like toys afterwards no matter what I did. At that moment I knew that I could not kill them. I knew they would be angry since I beat them up, so instead I went for the next best option; stuffing them so far under my bed that they cannot climb out to kill me. I relaxed a bit... BUT soon I realised that if toys can move from a toy shop to an airport in a day. Surely they could walk a few feet from under my bed to over my head to kill me. Terrified, I took them out. I put them in my bed with me. I treated them well. I kept saying sorry and reassured them by saying 'I love you' over and over. Hopefully, I had appeased their wrath. I always knew that one day they would murder us all. I just waited.

@@gabygabriel7789 Yes, two year old me was an idiot. But can you really blame a three year old for believing everything they see on television? I specifically was very paranoid, but you would be surprised how many millenials believed toys were alive when they were little - because of Toy Story.
