I and my wife to be were at this show. Hitch hiked from Toronto with a friend to Montreal to see them. We shared a lifelong love for Pink Floyd. This album was one of the last things she heard before cancer took her from me. I listen to Floyd now I get a lump in my throat, my eyes leak a little, but I wouldn’t change a thing, except maybe to have her back.
Hey there Steve, happy to know you were at the show, just a quick question if you don't mind, would you or your wife happen to recall a what distance approximately form the stage was the barricade placed? The story goes that a fan tried to jump over the first row barricade and this irked Waters.

Waters angrily told them after a while they weren’t going to play it.
I just found this. Wow. My girlfriend and I (my wife now of 42 years) were at this concert in Montreal. We flew up from St. John's, NFLD and made a vacation out of this special event and spent a week there. I'm since retired now and living in Ecuador. This was my first Pink Floyd concert and first visit to the Olympic Stadium just a year after The Olympics there. It was a Quad audio presentation. This was such an awesome show. What a memory!!

A lot of unique and last time things happen on this 06.07.1977 Pink Floyd concert as well as the 1977 In The Flesh Tour/Animals Tour in general. The unique things are a complete performance of both of the Wish You Were Here and Animals albums although some of Richard Wright's Minimoog parts on Shine On You Crazy Diamond Parts 8 and 9 get replaced with extra guitar solos and the lionshare of both Wish You Were Here and Animals had been performed on the final 1974/1975 legs of the Dark Side Of The Moon Tour in early forms. There's a lot of awesome lead guitar dueting between David Gilmour and Snowy White on these 1977 concerts and David and Roger Waters do vocal duets on Welcome To The Machine, the Wish You Were Here title track and Pigs (Three Different Ones) which are unique to this tour. This is the only Pink Floyd tour to feature Pigs On The Wing Parts 1 & 2 and Pigs (Three Different Ones). This is the only Pink Floyd tour to feature the polished versions of Dogs and Sheep and a complete Shine On You Crazy Diamond. The 1977 versions of Money appear to be longest in an actual Pink Floyd concert although the longest ever versions of Money would be on David Gilmour's solo About Face Tour in 1984 and the versions of Money from the 1974, 1975, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1994 Pink Floyd concerts are almost as long as the 1977 versions. This was the only Pink Floyd tour to feature an additional mini keyboard solo from Richard Wright after David Gilmour's guitar solo in Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 1. I believe this was the only Pink Floyd tour to feature Gerald Scarfe's animations for Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Welcome To The Machine although the falling leaf from SOYCD was recycled for The Trial animation of The Wall Tours and film and the sea of blood from Welcome To The Machine was recycled for the What Shall We Do Now? animation of The Wall Tours and film. This was also the only Pink Floyd tour to feature the nuclear family, refrigerator and cadillac inflatables. This was the last Pink Floyd concert ever to feature Roger Waters on Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Welcome To The Machine and Us And Them. This was also the last fullblown Pink Floyd concert to feature Roger Waters on Money and the Wish You Were Here title track although Roger would be back on those songs at Pink Floyd's one-off reunion guest appearance for Live 8 in 2005. This was the last Pink Floyd concert to feature Us And Them, Money, Welcome To The Machine, the Wish You Were Here title track and any of Shine On You Crazy Diamond until 1987. SOYCD Parts 1 through 5 would return in 1987 and a medley of SOYCD Parts 1 through 5 and 7 would return in 1994. Aside from the aforementioned Pig songs, this is the last ever Pink Floyd concert to feature the More Blues encore, Dogs, Sheep, Have A Cigar, the funky guitar solo of Shine On You Crazy Diamond Part 3 as well as SOYCD Parts 6, 8 and 9. Other 1977 gigs were the last ever Pink Floyd concerts to feature Careful With That Axe Eugene. It's a shame about the rowdy "fans" (especially during Us And Them), this was an awesome show otherwise. Thank you for uploading this classic if infamous Pink Floyd concert.

I was there! First ever concert in Olympic Stadium I think. My seats were very close to where the first photograph was taken that appears at the start of the video. The pig dirigible flew right over our heads. It was a an amazing experience.
I was at the concert and it was a bittersweet experience. Pink Floyd 1970s IMHO represents a musical almost unequaled in its quality, emotion, beauty and creativity. (Stevie Wonder comes to mind as well). That said, the crowd was out of control what with drugs and fireworks and all, and came close to disrespecting the music IMHO again. Dude behind me screamed his bad trip throughout, as far as I can tell never looking in the direction of the stage, and he was not alone. Clearly the band picked up on it all and later reminisced of it as a low point I believe.
Wow! What a fantastic concert that must have been! To play two of my favorite Pink Floyd albums "Animals" and "Wish You Were Here" completely, and then some of "Dark Side of the Moon" would easily have been one of, if not THE BEST concert I've ever been to (Led Zeppelin's last show ever performed in Cincinnati on 4/20/1977 was my very first concert). I also saw The Who perform on 12/3/1979 at Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, and aside from the stampede I was caught up in that I'm extremely lucky to have survived, was also another fantastic concert (may the 11 rockers that didn't R.I.P., they are not forgotten). Damn I miss the concerts of the late '70s, simply due to all of these iconic rock pioneers in their prime at the time. Rock and Roll will never die, indeed. Thank you so much for posting this classic Pink Floyd performance!
Montreal July 1977 was the last gig of this In The Flesh Tour.Roger Waters was unhappy at the audience calling for Dark Side of the Moon. This is a fabulous upload of a great Concert by the Greatest band ever. Roger Waters depicted an idea of building a wall between the band and the audience, hence the next album The Wall.PINK FLOYD ARE THE GREATEST.Thanks for the upload it's brilliant, such good quality and great sound for its age👍
When you're not good, you have to wear platform heels, wear makeup, dress like a demon and a starchild. You need tons of pyrotechnics, and lights. When your Pink Floyd, you need nothing....
Absolute peak '70s. Just imagine you're there in a ganja cloud through your trip between two rural communes of dreamy drifters. Then think that's the situation of most people in there.
Indeed. As well as foreshadowing the chord progressions and the lead guitar on The Pros And Cons Of Hitchhiking album, the chord sequence of Pigs On The Wing Parts 1 & 2 also foreshadows Mother and Two Suns In The Sunset and the chord progression also appears at the start of the extended 1980-1981 live versions of The Show Must Go On and at the end of the 1980-1981 live versions of Goodbye Blue Sky as well as at the end of Get Your Filthy Hands Off My Desert and at the start of Southampton Dock. The guitar solos of Mother and The Final Cut title track also sound melodically similar to Snowy White's Pigs On The Wing Part 2 guitar solo.
Within a month of this concert I saw them in Philadelphia, a 17 year old teen. My older brother's friend was stationed nearby in the Marines; he was also a major drug dealer. He got us 6th row seats at the Spectrum in Philly. It was a mind-blowing concert, one of my all-time favorites.
This concert is sooooooo Good. PINK FLOYD ARE THE GREATEST BAND EVER. I would so love to look out of my window and see Pink Floyd playing on the grass outside.Absollutely marvellous stuff
As a now quite ‘old fella’ I thank you for this gem from the past. I’ve listened to/bought Floyd albums, singles since ‘69. Gosh, that is so long ago!.The lyrics were, when they weren’t hippy, very strong and a socio/political criticism. But (I’d like to note) that I can’t say that I have anything positive to say about Roggah’s current point of view about the world. However I can still ‘immerse’ myself in these delights of youth. They were always a great ‘blues’ band….Thank you!
I just cannot stop listening to and watching this upload it's absolutely magnificent.Animals album sounds so good.Shine on you Crazy Diamond performance is in a league of its own in musical performances.PINK FLOYD ARE THE GREATEST BAND EVER

Oh, the memories! I saw them in Louisville, KY a month earlier on this tour and was absolutely blown away. To top it off, this was right after my HS graduation, and one of my best friends offered me the ticket and a weekend at his place to go see them.
This is indeed the infamous "spitting" show. Roger had absolutely had enough of the fans, and coaxed a young guy to the stage and spat on him. This is cited as the impetus for The Wall. Roger was quoted saying something like ~if I ever play a show again, I'll be behind a wall~ We know the rest.
My friend and I took a Magic Bus from Plattsburg NY to Montreal to see this show. It was fantastic, even without the "enhancements" we enjoyed before, during and after the show. It was more than a concert; it was an historical event, complete with flying pigs over Olympic stadium. It was so strange seeing the wall a couple of years later and seeing some of the same animations that were played in the background while the band performed. Deja vu all over again. Hard to believe that it was 44 years ago. Thank you for the upload. I saw Floyd several times in the 70s, and was always amazed at how they consistently sounded as good, or even better, live as they did in the studio. I have a recording of the show that I downloaded from a different source, and am thankful for this one.

If I was there trying to enjoy the show, and saw him spit on an obnoxious jerk who screamed and disrupted the entire show, I would probably laugh and give Rog a standing Ovation!!!
@@Geezer-yf8hv What was this "obnoxious jerk" trying to do? I heard he was trying to climb onto the stage. What was Roger like after he spat on this person? Did he carry on as if nothing happened? Roger must have been having a breakdown during this concert. He wanted people to listen to the music, but instead the audience were going hysterical and setting off fireworks. Spitting at someone in the crowd was a disgusting thing to do, but by that point Roger must have had enough crap from the audience who weren't listening to the music. Roger regretted it afterwards. He was disgusted at himself. But I'm glab it did happen, otherwise Roger would not have written the The Wall, which was about social isolation and mental breakdowns, leading to the building of a spiritual Wall between "Pink" and everyone else. It's Pink Floyd's greatest ever album, and one of the greatest albums in the history of rock 'n' roll, and it all started with Roger spitting at someone.

I was at this show (as well as 6 others of this tour) - we were right front and center - 5 feet from the barricades. Probably bumping elbows with Wray...What a zoo, worst crowd ever. Wee recorded the whole show on a Nakamichi tape, but sadly the tapes were lost somewhere. So great to hear Snowy's blues encore and the encore was so cool with them tearing down everything, until they fireman carried Nick off with him still banging on his snare drum. (tho we were pissed David didn't come back for that encore) Some of that shouting at the end could well have been me or my BFF - we wuz totally blitzed
The bests for ever ! Smooth, cristallin voice and Guitar by David, Chaos voice and powerful lyrics by Roger, it was the perfect mix for great great and great. I love the mix in the two voices in Dogs. Never could see them play together, because i'me too young. See Floyd and Waters one scene after they split. Both Great. But these old records, when they play together... Awesome !!!!!!! If I had a time machine.... Animals, one of my favorite...
@@XzanderVillo Roger hated playing big stadiums on the tour and the crowds were very raucous and in his mind disinterested in the music and just wanted to party. His breaking point came at the Montreal show when he spat on a fan in the front row and refused to come out for the encore at the end. That said, IMO there were still some great shows that deserve a release
@James Curran It obviously was a catalyst event, but Roger just by nature seemed to have a disdain for the “rabble”. Not knowing him personally it may seem wrong to some to make a character judgment like that, but his ego was such that to me it all makes sense.
I would have to disagree only because the wall. The wall movie it said all lyrics by Rodger Waters. Then the final breaking of the band was the Final Cut. Most of the stuff on the Final Cut was just pieces that were cut from the wall. That's the way I see it. You can't say the wall was not a masterpiece. Out of every album they wrote and sang the wall was extremely ahead of its time. I would love to see David Gilmour do better with any health issues and there now talking to each other and that's a plus. I see it more as the wall was basically so over-the-top and with the ego of Rodger Waters. It was just a breaking point of the band once he did the movie and it says all lyrics by Rodger Waters. That I believe was kind of a snapping point. Pink Floyd was very political and anti-government and anti corporate. I think that that was just too much for the band to handle with him saying he wrote all the lyrics in the wall. That's why the Final Cut was called The Final Cut. It's just my opinion though. Cuz the guy who said they're your pictures you did a great job sir, thank you very much. also to the person who put it on RUclips for us to listen to thank you very much. I hope everybody stays blessed during these weird times. ♡
I have to agree. Despite all of its toxic energy during the making of it, most of my friends and I who work in the music industry agree that the wall is very possibly the greatest album of all time, by anyone. It’s 100% a masterpiece For the ages. I’ve seen myself and seasoned high-level industry Pro musicians start crying within the first three minutes. Dragging behind you the silent reproach of a million tear stained eyes, as you claw the thin ice. It’s kind of the goat within the first three minutes.
Reading these comments is hilarious. The level of history revision is humorous and I can picture all of you puffing on your respective blunts acting philosophical and pontificating on “what happened”
Great quality on this recording. Holy crap what a great show. Once you get past Roger Water losing it on the idiots lighting off firecrackers in the crowd (something that was a thing at a lot of concerts in the late 70s for some reason) they play an amazing show. They could jam with the best of them
@stephenlewis1365 I have watched a ton of shows from the late 70s. Eagles, Bruce, Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and others that complain about fireworks. Freaking stupid thing to do
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G . Sil vous plais Messrs. Gilmour and Waters. One more time, for old times sake. For the millions of fans. For Messrs. Barrett & Weight. While you have life and energy. Just one more show.
Saw the Chicago show of this tour that summer. Soldier Field, 1977. Fantastic, of course. Animals had pure rage throughout. A shame that there seems to be so little video footage of those shows. My hope is that it’s out there somewhere, waiting for the right time to reappear. Hurry!
Played the national anthem at an Expos game 20 years after this show so I guess both Pink Floyd and I played Olympic Stadium as the headlining musical act lol
David Gilmiur is was a few years ago in Pula, Croatia, in the ancient Roman arena. He was my late friend (covid) with his wife. For days ml wrote that the concert was great.we are both guitarists for over 50 years. And adored Gilmour. I was so sorry I couldn't go to the concert with him. I am immobile because of my cervical spine. left hand and leg. They found the right pills and I'm moving more every day. It's because of cancer of the vocal cords. They pulled the front muscles all the way in, protecting the whole and 3 months of life. the wife also knew all the ridbuna. I wrote to them so that they wouldn't cry when everything was ok. I had 9 radiations out of 30. I would have been very sick, so they decided to stop anyway, I'll hear soon... 3 years have passed and the doctor says it's a miracle, the cancer is gone, you're cured. They approached 7 years and 3 I was in bed for the last 3, I exercised every day and I plan to walk until winter. Zappa during the 70' made excellent Records of all the Shows he did in decades. By its own Earnings. Excellent quality that is still contemporary & will remain marked in History. This Group always had some problems to Record the Shows due to the fact that they were full of musical mistakes, music incompetence (all these musicians they Learned music by hearing, are unable to read or write notes). Frank the same once said that PF they weren't vanguard in the Music Field but a well commercial package in order to make money. This was the reason why he unaccepted to substitute Barret before Gilmour (there are many videos with PF trying to jam with Frank, & they were unable to follow him. 3 drugs people trying to make noise with a true Artist). Just to finish: PF even Plaged Zappa with Shine on your crazy Diamond. In 72 Frank Realesed The Grand Wazoo album with a track "Eat that Question" where Gilmour took the famous intro from Zappa.
Concert qui a marqué un tournant décisif dans la vie du groupe et la névrose de Roger Waters. Rupture avec le public, paranoïa, mégalomanie… C’est à tout point de vue un concert historique !
Has anyone heard a reason why Floyd never released a live album, or filmed any concerts during this period? They always seemed to be on top of things as far as the best effects for their shows. It just seems odd they never recorded any live material during this time. (I know there were recordings of “The Wall” concert, but these were horrible quality).
@James Curran Hi James. Yes, it is widely believed among Floyd fans that Roger has many things tied up in legal which David or Nick could not release, even if they wanted to.What a turd.
I recently read they avoided taping shows on this tour because of fear of bootleggers. Supposedly no tapes exist other than the ones like this show and the Oakland May 3rd. Waiting to see if they will allow that one on the new Animals box set.
Azimuth Coordinator 2 was also recorder 1. It has many more speed and pitch issues. I uploaded this version cuz Jimfisheye speed corrected it for us, so those of us jamming along can do so in tune with the band more consistently. The quality of both releases is comparable however. The energy at this show is just unmatched. David's more extreme settings on his Electric Mistress flanger really capture the extra angst that became palpable by this point in the tour. I'd venture to say he had the gain turned up a little for this show on either his Big Muff or Colorsound Powerboost also.

Well, in an ironic sense, maybe we should *thank* the person who set off that firecracker, because he (almost certainly a "he") prompted the creation of one of the greatest works of popular culture of the 20th century (Roger Waters' acidly dark semi-operetta "The Wall").
It IS rather amazing, how actual events changed the history of the band, (or at least, Roger)! The story always made me think ole Rog was just being a bastard, but now I can actually sympathize with him! Still a very risky move when in the public eye! If it happened today, the “spitee” would have sued and received millions!
Exactly what I said. If the crowd was not going hysterical, setting of fireworks, and the spitting incident, there would be no The Wall album, which was one of the best albums in the history of rock and roll. Funny how events turned out. Roger must have been going through a mental breakdown after this concert and before The Wall was written.
@@70ad25 I would say even before that. The internal problems started when they got together to record WYWH. The other members of the band felt they had peaked out, and could never surpass the success of DSOTM. Just not very motivated. Roger then wanted to get the lion’s share of money for all the song credits. Yes, he did write all the lyrics, but did he write all of Rick’s keyboard parts? Did he write all of Nick’s drum parts, did he write those AMAZING guitar solos??? No! But that did not stop him from taking all credit for himself! On Animals, Roger split the short acoustic Pigs on the Wing to get 2 credits, while Dave only got shared credit on Dogs, (which was Dave’s tour de force at the time)! He especially bullied Rick for not bringing anything new to the table! When Roger presented the Wall to the band, it was already complete in Roger’s mind, and he would undoubtedly reject any outside material that didn’t fit into his concept. Anyway, the rude, wild, and crazy stadium concerts during the ‘70s pretty much ticked off all the members of Pink Floyd, but Roger was personally pissed, and felt disrespected. Eventually cursing the audience and spitting on a fan. At the same time, punk rockers were ragging on Floyd as “corporate rock dinosaurs” while Roger was “out-punking” them all! I would argue that The Wall was not their best album, IMO. It DOES contain at the very least one record of their best songs, (the Gilmour featured songs). I can rarely listen to it from start to finish. At least half of it is Roger whining or exploding about how everyone else in the world is to blame for making him such a miserable person!
@@Geezer-yf8hv But the album the The Wall doesn't have to be all about Roger Waters whining and moaning. I'm sure there's many people that can relate to the concept of the album The Wall, like social isolation (especially in the last 18 months), mental health breakdowns, drug misuse, adultery and marriage breakdowns, having an over protective mother, having one parent passing away at a young age, and having sadistic teachers bullying you in a dictatorial school system, etc, etc. It's an album that's open to personal interpretation for anyone listening to it. The Wall can be about real life experiences that ANYONE can go through, not just Roger Waters. It's a very dark and depressing album, but many people do go through dark and depressing times. But there is hope because the end of the album he puts himself on trial and decides that's he's guilty and decides to tear down that spiritual/metaphorical brick Wall. I like the last song when he says, "it's not easy banging your heart against some mad buggers Wall". These are the very people, outside the wall, that are desperately trying to help you come out of the Wall, to come out of those dark and depressing times. A great ending of the album because there is help available for anyone that's behind the Wall.
@@70ad25 You’re preaching to the choir, man. I’ve been through all that. I have suffered with depression since I was a teenager, self-medicated with alcohol and drugs, went from self isolation and self pity, to being mad at the world, even contemplated suicide several times in my life. Listening to the Wall many times give me some cathartic relief. I think it was afterwards; with the firing of Rick, The Final Cut, and the breakup and Roger’s desire to end Pink Floyd that I began to feel differently. Personally, I felt it was ultimately a lie. I thought the Wall was Roger’s self psychotherapy, and at the end he had reached an epiphany to “tear down his wall”, but that didn’t happen. He was a bigger a-hole than he was before, and gave us another album with MORE bricks, (as if the double disc Wall didn’t cover all of it)! I still give him credit for creating such a massive concept album, and out of the four record sides, they contain at least 2-3 sides of Floyd’s best songs ever!
Listening to the guitar solos from this show it’s pretty hard to disagree that Dave is one of the greatest of all time. Just extraordinary playing!

I was there! First ever concert in Olympic Stadium I think. My seats were very close to where the first photograph was taken that appears at the start of the video. The pig dirigible flew right over our heads. It was a an amazing experience.
45 years ago today, (6/7/2022) the world changed and The Wall was born. God, I love PInk Floyd !
After all these years, I now know why Roger did what he did at this concert. Well done mate! Pigs all of them!
Saw the same Concert in Cleveland in quad also...a day I will never forget !!
And you could get in the door/gate for 20 bucks back then!
@@ssmithnc54 Indeed, my "An Evening with Led Zeppelin" ticket was only $9.00 for their show on 4/20/1977 at Riverfront coliseum in Cincinnati Ohio.

Now this is what a concert should be ALL about. I DON'T have the visuals BUT the music is AWESOME. I ONLY wish I could've been there!
I love how you can hear pros and cons in pigs on the wing pt 2 and eric clapton picked up where snowy white left off there
I was at that show AWESOME!!!!

Oh, the memories! I saw them in Louisville, KY a month earlier on this tour and was absolutely blown away. To top it off, this was right after my HS graduation, and one of my best friends offered me the ticket and a weekend at his place to go see them.
It sounds like Roger is on a verge of a nervous breakdown here. What an unbelievable recording.
In other words, “he bit the hand that feeds him?”
You got it pretty much on target. Roger DID LOSE HIS SHIT! Spitting on a fan, (no matter how obnoxious), I don’t know…

@@jcurran01 what a retarded comment. So because someone paid to go to the concert that gives them free reign to do whatever they like?
I saw this tour in the UK. Absolutely amazing!
This is indeed the infamous "spitting" show. Roger had absolutely had enough of the fans, and coaxed a young guy to the stage and spat on him. This is cited as the impetus for The Wall. Roger was quoted saying something like ~if I ever play a show again, I'll be behind a wall~
We know the rest.
Hey there Zypher, happy to know you were at the show, just a quick question if you don't mind, would you happen to recall a what distance approximately form the stage was the barricade placed? The story goes that a fan tried to jump over the first row barricade and this irked Waters.

Thank you! I was there in front of the stage and an experience it was..one of the best in my life!
If I was there trying to enjoy the show, and saw him spit on an obnoxious jerk who screamed and disrupted the entire show, I would probably laugh and give Rog a standing Ovation!!!
@@Geezer-yf8hv
What was this "obnoxious jerk" trying to do?
It's Pink Floyd's greatest ever album, and one of the greatest albums in the history of rock 'n' roll, and it all started with Roger spitting at someone.
did you witness the spitting incident?

The beginnings of the end of the band
Dark Side is the unanimous best album of Pink Floyd and maybe ever. Wall is their 3rd best. Just a hysterical Waters taking full control creatively.
Roger's voice is the cat's meow.

Great quality on this recording. Holy crap what a great show. Once you get past Roger Water losing it on the idiots lighting off firecrackers in the crowd (something that was a thing at a lot of concerts in the late 70s for some reason) they play an amazing show. They could jam with the best of them

Has anyone heard a reason why Floyd never released a live album, or filmed any concerts during this period? They always seemed to be on top of things as far as the best effects for their shows. I recently read they avoided taping shows on this tour because of fear of bootleggers.
Supposedly no tapes exist other than the ones like this show and the Oakland May 3rd.
Waiting to see if they will allow that one on the new Animals box set.
Anyone have any videos of these shows from 77 tour?
buy with all the tape gaps and chatter I guess there was 3 tapers...the "Azimuth Coordinator " had no glitches or tape sounds

33:32 Roger getting angry

But the album the The Wall doesn't have to be all about Roger Waters whining and moaning.
David is nasty!!!!
