    It's now 2024 and I have a 2006 Grand Caravan with less than 80k. It too needs rear shocks and I came across your video. I feel confident that I can do this replacement on my vehicle. Thanks for the info.

      Awesome! Thanks for taking time to comment. My parents are in St G. We live in SLC. Yeah the shock swap isn’t too bad if you don’t have a ton of rust.

    Just an FYI to get the tire off you can use a 2x4 and hammer as you did but most people don't carry them in their car so when you get a flat you won't have that available to use. The alternative method would be, loosen lug nuts while tire is still on the ground, do not remove lug nuts from wheel, jack up car till wheel is off the ground and check wheel to see if it is loose, if wheel is not loose lower wheel to ground again, this should loosen wheel from hub. On stubborn wheels you might have to raise and turn wheel a couple of times. I towed for a few years and there was only one time this method did not work. Happy Motoring.

    A thin layer of Anti-Seize on the face of the wheel hub between the lug bolts will help prevent and/or reduce the wheel rusting onto the wheel hub.

    question... How can I tell if its the shocks or suspension that is not good. When I hit a bump, i do bounce around in the van quite a bit.
    I used to do deliveries where my boss would put lots of stuff and I would see my back end of my van very low.
    Now perhaps this bit of info might help. When I do hit a bump, it sounds like my back in is hitting the ground. Perhaps its the shocks themselves being pushed down to the max?
    thanks :-)

    • @troysgarage

      Start with the shocks. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. You’ll probably see a big enough improvement you won’t even think about the rest.

      Torque them tight or they will “clunk” when you hit bumps. They should be tight.

    Hey, im installing a remote start in our 07 grand caravan sxt with the 3.8, in the summer im redoing our wheels because its corroded and has curbrash. Also I an doing a full suspension upgrade since it hasent been done since stock. Changing front struts, rear leafsprings and shocks. Debating on getting shocks with springs. I need something that will be heavy duty also giving excellent ride quality like my audi. I know its alot to ask for but I just want to know my options before I click buy. Thanks!

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  Год назад +1

      Sounds like a major overhaul. If you’re looking for more load capacity you will need helper spring shocks. If going for original ride quality then the stock shocks linked here work great. All the changes you mention here would make it like a brand new van. Pretty cool. 😎

      @@troysgarage thanks! Yeah i just really need the back to not like sink a whole ton when its loaded. Also! Any idea on how the fix the huge wind noise in the grand caravan? LIke on the highway. @KhaiMahase Год назад

      @@troysgarage alright, it’s never been replaced. The only thing I did to those door seals was put silicone lubricant on it so it doesn’t dry rot. Maybe it’s time for a chance since it’s about 15 years old. It’s in great condition tho. No water coming in the cabin at all. Any idea where I should buy it online from. Trying to get best bang for my buck. Thanks!

    • @KhaiMahase
      @KhaiMahase Год назад

      @@troysgarage Quick update lol, remote start was fully installed and working. I’m doing the struts and rear shocks. My dad got Monroe parts for everything. For the rear it’s shocks that have a spring around them and have some type of gas in them which lifts the rear when it’s starts to sag when loaded. Not exactly sure how it will work but once I install it I’ll test it out. We took out extra warrantee just incase anything happens. Also do you recommend to do the struts on the front or the shocks first? Just trying to save some time lol.

    Your jounce bumpers look MUCH bigger than mine. Was there a different option that would require larger jounce bumpers? Towing package?

    • @troysgarage
      @troysgarage  5 лет назад

      I don’t believe this van had the tow package. There was no hitch or any other indication of it. Not sure why the difference. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @rock_and-or_roll
      @rock_and-or_roll 5 лет назад +1

      Just realized that the reason mine are so much smaller is that they have disintegrated. I never tow and hardly ever carry anyone in the back of the vehicle, so the jounce bumpers never need to get engaged. So I never noticed that they were falling apart.
