I flew on this service about 4 months ago, and the service was identical. In hindsight I would have preferred the American flight, but it's hard to resist a Dreamliner flight. It's always great!
Very helpful report! Thanks. Just booked an economy 12 hour flight 0n a 787 Dreamliner with BA. Will try to get a back row seat after listening to your comments!
I flew back from Delhi to EWR on a UA 787 for 16 hrs, and 787s are really comfortable long haulers. So much better than the 777-300ERs that UA usually uses in this route.
They really are especially when they are configuration well( yes this goes for airlines who have tight 3-3-3). Technology have really advanced that long
I haven't flown United in a decade, but I get the feeling when they talk about premium service they only meant in front of the aircraft and not in cattle car class.
i got to fly one of the newly refreshed United 757-200's with the updated IFE and its fantastic. Cant wait for the whole fleet to be modernized. Great video!
@@sju_planespotter I think it’s because United is planning to retire them soon. Which is sad, since the 757 is an amazing aircraft, just not economically efficient compared to newer planes.
@@K4Ediamond i thought they were waiting for the XLR😔. The 757 is my favorite one with the Super 80, I’m happy that Delta said between 10-20 more years for their 757, unbelievable but amazing
Not only I have flown a UA B787-10 in economy, but literally this aircraft you flew on (N14001) I flew on this exact aircraft from Newark to Lisbon on April 21st/22nd 2023 and then I ended up back on N14001 from Lisbon to Newark on May 3rd 2023!
EWR SFO EWR on the 787-10...love the airplane... I go for seats a bit further back for no wing obstruction... The hot buy on board is good if you can get it as they run out fast. Also Not enough selection of items.. Nice report Love the dreamliner
2:30 There's one less row of Polaris seats on the -10 compared to the shorter 787-9. That may have a lot to do with how the galleys are located differently. The -10 has a galley at the back of the Polaris cabin to separate it from Premium Plus, while the -9 has a galley between rows 8 and 9, resulting in there being a second Polaris section over the wings.
on the dash 10 they wanted to fit all the polaris cabin in between the first and second set of doors, meanwhile on the dash 9 since they wanted to make it lighter in order to take advantage of its range they went past the second door.
United did have a dedicated fleet of 757s for their premium transcon routes, but they were retired and replaced with various internationally configured aircraft. I think it makes more sense to just use internationally configured aircraft, since it provides more flexibility, and means fewer seating configurations in the fleet. Also, since they have far higher capacity than narrowbodies, they can also operate fewer flights and carry the same number of passengers, freeing up slots for other flights. I've never flown on a 787 or any widebody for that matter, but if I need to get to California from the east coast, I'll definitely try to take a flight operated by one. I like the idea of the dimmable windows. I always pick the window seat so I can watch takeoff and landing, and see what I'm flying over. With the dimmable windows, it's possible to still see out, while not disturbing my seatmates with the glare. However, I would not be happy if the crew locked all the windows to their dimmest setting. They're not supposed to do it on United, but it still happens sometimes.
I'm sorry but I'm disappointed you didn't mention how absolutely cramped this aircraft is. I flew from Newark to Athens and thought I would go out of my mind. I'm a thin woman, 5'8" and I was shoulder to shoulder with my neighbor, you can't slip pass anyone in the aisle because they are so narrow, the bathroom isn't spacious as you suggest (I'd imagine a large person would have to back in to the toilet because to turn around in there you practical touch the walls) and there was no place to just hang out ( by that I mean a place to stand, stretch for a moment) which is so necessary on 10-12 hour flight! By the time I landed, I was so wrecked from sitting in the same position that it took me a few days to get back to myself. On the other hand, I returned on a 777-200ER. The seats are almost an 1" wider, huge bathrooms, several place to stretch and hang out and I could pass people in the aisle. I will NEVER get on a 777-10 again and wish some regulations would pass so we aren't treated as if in a cattle car!
Did psp-sfo-ewr redeye and right back to ps for my third and fourth ever 777 widebody flights so far! Ha Economy there and business back such a cool experience can’t wait to do international routes soon and specially on the 787!!
I am taking am international flight from Illinois to Italy on a 787-10 dreamliner. It is an 8 hour flight, so I must ask, what tips do you for flying on this plane? It is a UA flight.
I don’t understand these airlines in the US. Providing a sandwich will hardly cost them $3-$4 or even less (buying in bulk for hundreds of thousands passengers), but they still choose to give a cookie and drink on a 4+ hour flight. Shameful. But they know ppl will keep travelling so they don’t care
You’d think the airlines would sell a larger selection of meals to give them more ancillary revenue like European airlines do. But especially with tight connections and airport delays, you could be going up to 8 hours without food on a given travel day, even if your flights aren’t too long
Yes I did fly on United’s 787 Dreamliner in economy. Twice actually, both were transatlantic flights on the -9 (DEN-FRA and LHR-DEN). Interestingly, they had different seats. The first flight was on an older Dreamliner with the same seats seen on their 767s, but the second flight on a 1 year old plane had the newer “Aspire” seats seen on the 787-10 in this video. I agree with you that United is nothing special but not bad either. I love the Dreamliner a lot.
Yup, aspire seats are on all 78X, and post 2020 789s, they just chose not to retrofit them on older planes, which I’m fine with since those are a lot more comfortable, not sure about legroom on those however
@@ITripReport In my opinion, the older ones are a bit more comfortable than the aspires. Mostly because they have larger armrests and a bit more cushioning. But the aspire seats have more storage space and a cup grove on their tray tables too.
Seems like a good amount of legroom. How tall are you? We've got a family member flying on Turkish Airlines 787-9 he's 6'4", and is concerned about legroom. Thanks for posting.
I was seated in row 53 on this plane which ruined the flight because there it is missing a window. What even made it worse was that I was my first time on a Dreamliner.
crazy question but is it worth paying the extra to fly on the 787 vs say 767 or 777 economy? booking my first trip with award miles and dont have enough for the flight with the 787 but its tempting the avgeek in me to pay the extra for the miles i need lol
Hmmmmm, I mean if your goal is comfort, the 767 is the way to go since the seats are wider, but personally I'd go for the 787 since its quite a swanky ride with the mood lighting.
Never happy with delta, like JetBlue on East Coast, Emirates going Europe but this time UA 787-10 to Spain never been on the 787-10, will be A380 October 2024 to Mauritius Islands!
United airlines is simply the best us carrier... when will people realize that??? Why flying with other carriers when united has such a great and solid product??? 😏
I think United is pretty great on long-haul routes, especially on newer aircraft, compared to other carriers.. (cough, American). But for a shorter flight I would rather fly Delta and bring a free carryon and seat back IFE, or JetBlue with nice IFE and very nice seats, than fly in an old 737 from the Continental days.
We’ll realize it when United actually finds a way to be better than Delta or JetBlue instead of just being on par with them. As well as when every aircraft is installed with IFE which will be years from now
I have rarely heard anything genuinely positive over the last 10 years I’ve been flying. They seem to be better now, but they always find a way to make it into the news with horrible things. Every time someone is thrown off a flight, or a flight attendant has to physically restrain a passenger it happens on a United flight. Delta and American are close enough in terms of product that I can’t fathom chancing a horrid experience on a United flight.
United needs to improve their food before they can say they're the best US carrier because whatever they serve people even in Polaris and Premium Plus is barely edible.
