    21ft Pound is correct, it is a course thread and steel into steel. In metric that is almost 29Nm. For future reference the oil filter is 17Nm.

    Given the way you incremented your torque wrench, I would rather pay you by the job, not by the hour. Did enjoy your video and live seeing someone doing their own maintenance. By the way, I am really slow as well 😂🤣

      @bertsbike  2 месяца назад +2

      Thanks! Yeah, I go really slow and double check things especially the first time. I learned to work up to torque vs going right to it. Having snapped many bolts it seems to make the most sense. Cheers!

    That's a good looking bike man! Thanks for the info on the crush washer. I wasn't aware that there is rough side, smooth side, and which side goes where. Could be something to that, could be nothing to that, but your way makes sense to me!

      Thanks! Appreciate ya watching and leaving a comment.
      I don’t think the side of the crush-washer matters too much as long as there’s no micro debris on the rougher side. Makes sense to me to use the smooth side since you’re trying to make a tight seal.
      I’m loving the bike. I’ve owned a few bikes and this one continues to wow me. I’m nearing 1000mi since I bought it and it’s just been a blast!

    It is probably 20 Nm of torque on bolt, that is about 15 foot-pounds as you used, so it is spot on)

    • @bertsbike
      @bertsbike  Год назад +1

      Thanks! My owner’s manual states 21 ft.lbs. But I saw some threads on some kawi forums where people were stripping threads on other bikes at that 21 ft.lbs. Since it’s an aluminum case better safe than sorry.

    The manual said 4.0 Q of oil I️ use full synthetic. I️ filled it up with 4 and it seems to be fine in the levels.

    • @bertsbike
      @bertsbike  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes. I pretty much used it all. Came back and topped off. Next time I'll just put all 4 in. Easier to add more than to take it out.

      @@bertsbike Yes, they stated in the manual 3.8 Q if you aren’t changing the oil filter… but who doesn’t change it lol. At least that’s what my manual says from 2019.

    Here's a question from a new owner. Did you use exactly 4 quarts with the filter? I'm asking because I bought a 2019 Z900RS Cafe with 2k miles, and there was no owners manual. I'm working on getting one, but until I do, I want to change the oil and want to do it right. Great video, thanks!

    • @bertsbike
      @bertsbike  3 месяца назад

      Congrats on the bike! At the end of it I ended up using all 4qt's. What I like to do tho is fill it up at about 3.5qt's or so until the middle of the glass. Run the engine, check the level, then top off if needed to a little past the mid mark. Just depends on how thorough you are with the drain process.

  • @algypan
    @algypan 2 месяца назад +1

    I always find it strange that the bike needs to be warmed up first and then left to settle a bit to get an oil reading. Why can't it just be taken cold before firing up?

    • @bertsbike
      @bertsbike  2 месяца назад +2

      I think primarily cause oil flows faster and is less viscous when warm. Also debris in any cavities and corners will be lifted due to the oil being stirred up.

    I read the torque specs and I thought that 21 ft-lbs was a lot also for the drain bolt. 15 ft-lbs seems like a good number.

    • @bertsbike
      @bertsbike  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching! I checked with some other owners and they're going the full 21 ft-lbs. I ended up going to about 20. I think the reason for this is that the bolt is on the thicker side (17mm). On my other bikes they were around 12-13mm. But I think around 18 ft. lbs. or so is plenty.
