      In space there is gravity, although very, VERY slight. You will be in a state of (infinite?) freefall if I remember correctly.

      +Chris Roio Then it's kind of useless why NASA calls it "Zero Gravity."

    • @ChrisRoio
      @ChrisRoio 8 лет назад

      Michael Laserroam Even though it seems like there is no gravity there actually is. It's just an incredibly tiny amount. NASA calls it zero gravity because you're barely even influenced by it.

    Ugh. Total junk. None of this has anything to do with gravity. Notice how all of the places are tilted? These are, as he points out in passing, called gravity hills. It's all an optical illusion. The tilt of the various objects in the area tricks your brain into perceiving it in a very strange way. The odd feeling you get is because your brain is pretty much looking at what you're seeing, throwing its metaphysical hands up in the air, and just spewing out what amounts to a garbage interpretation.
    What you perceive as being downhill can actually be uphill, uphill can be downhill, and even objects you think are flat can in fact be any number of shapes in reality. Look up the Aims room for a great example of such optical illusion, the wikipedia page has a great example of a man walking around in such a room (along with a diagram of the shape of the actual room).

    • @eno2870
      @eno2870 9 лет назад +2

      So first.. unanswered questions does not equal complete ignorance. We may not understand everything about gravity, but we can certainly tell gravity from optical illusion.
      Does gravity have speed? Well, this is unknown, but it's likely that it will travel at the speed of light. Anything without mass will travel at the speed of light, and gravity has no mass. This is also a question to which we may soon have an answer, provided the recent possible detection of gravity waves turns out to be true. I visited that particular facility a few months back, so it was rather exciting to see them in the news with such an exciting potential discovery.
      I'm not at all certain what the coriolis effect has to do with any of this. Two children are on a merry go round, on opposite sides. They throw a ball to each other. The ball will seem to follow a curved path due to the rotation of the merry go round. This is coriolis, and it's not really an effect of gravity. It's just inertia and newton's laws of motion within a rotating frame of reference.
      Quantum entanglement.. again, lots unknown here. We don't know what causes it. That said, the instantaneous movement of such particles does not mean that there is necessarily something that can travel faster than light. We don't know that anything actually travelled in the first place, or even if something did travel we don't know that the distance we measure is actually the distance that had to be travelled. It seems likely that something is happening on a dimension we don't fully understand.
      As for Hawking.. he was basically saying that black holes as we generally think of them are science fiction. We know they are real, and the paper you're paraphrasing was actually his proposal for what they might actually be and how they actually work (without breaking physics as we know it like the sci-fi version).
      Tyson.. yeah, the Earth isn't a perfect sphere. We've known that for decades. Commonly accepted scientific fact. Saying it is (slightly) pear-shaped is simply a way of saying it more simply than saying it is an oblate spheroid, which means nothing to most people. This effect is caused by the Earth's rotation, which leads to bulges around the equator and slightly flattened polar regions.

      +Jeremy Roney I was all but kicked out of the Oregon vortex in Gold Hill. Apparently they don't like it when you use the tools provided to disprove their claims. Not to mention they rely on most people being tricked with fast talking guides claiming the opposite of how a level really works, and optical illusions of the structures when using a plumb bob. Oh, and don't refute the claims that animals staying away from the area by pointing out the lizards, birds, and various animal scat... They hate that.

    • @rushthezeppelin
      @rushthezeppelin 9 лет назад

      +Ju Jitsuka You realize, if this was actually a gravity anomaly it would affect the level and the plumb bob the same way it does everything else. The only way to prove/dispove this is with surveying equipment where you are checking the level outside the area to the level inside the area. I'm not saying these aren't optical illusions, yes I've been in the optical illusion non-level houses at theme parks and I know that can play games with your head but that doesn't exclude the possibility that gravity anomalies can exist. In fact they are documented to exist in the bottom of some of the deepest mines on the planet as well as certain areas of crust. We theorize that it's because of thicker crust but frankly we don't know for sure because of the elusive nature of really quantifying gravity.

    the Bermuda Triangle has been explained. Methane vents underwater cause lower water density and ships can't float on top of it so they sink. and the mist formed from this methane water mixture clings in clouds around airplanes like a magnet. The pilots get lost because they can't see through it

    This phenomenon is known as a 'magnetic sink'. I have researched these extensively and they are absolutely genuine. I have been to 'Spook Hill' in Florida and the experience is creepy, but very cool. I also lived on a farm, here in east Tennessee, which was the site of a magnetic sink. The needle on a water compass would point due north, outside of the 'sink', but as the person carrying the compass walked toward the anomaly (in a north-eastward direction), the needle would gradually veer to the north-east; automatically being drawn toward the middle of the 'sink'. The gravitational pull also tended to cause some unusual formations in the clouds above its location. My parents and I once saw a huge, white cloud, above our farmhouse, which was rolled up like a giant spiral. It was so amazing and beautiful.

    • @coyhampton3087
      @coyhampton3087 10 лет назад +3

      Go to Spook Hill and drive it the other way (start at the "top" and go to the "bottom") and you will see it for what it really is, a hill within a hill. Nothing magical, just an optical illusion, although I agree, very cool.

    • @ella122112
      @ella122112 10 лет назад +2

      These are all really simple optical illusions that a 5th grader could understand. There is nothing special about them, they're really simple and easy to create.

    • @annacronism
      @annacronism 10 лет назад +3

      Well,@Kittens, as i mentioned before, a 'magnetic sink' is a very real, natural phenomenon. I lived in a place which contained a rather large, though not very magnetically strong, one. Also, that spiral cloud that I also mentioned before, was no 'optical illusion'. Thank you so much.

    • @rinconusmc
      @rinconusmc 10 лет назад +1

      annacronism what is the purpose of these magnetic sinks? For washing magnetic dishes!!!! bad jokes aside you are correct. they indeed do exist but further results from studies are above my security clearance.

    • @annacronism
      @annacronism 10 лет назад +3

      Thank you, Oscar Rincon. It annoys me so much, when these people who have no scientific knowledge just assume that everything which can't be explained by their standards, must therefore be 'fake'. That is such convoluted logic that it is laughable. I know a bit about geology and several other earth sciences, so I don't make my statements lightly. I have studied magnetic sinks and other seemingly impossible phenomena, whereas these other people so obviously haven't, or they would know I've been telling them the truth. My best regards to you, sir.

      They do cause gravity fluctuations. In fact, it varies anywhere you go!
      How much does it vary?
      It can get 0.1% stronger or weaker depending on where you go.
      It's so small a difference it was never observed until recently.

      Hinotsuj Warrior Usually this has to do with a slanted or offset item in the surroundings like a leaning tree that seems upright and straight or a set of such trees or a leaning building with the ground changed to appear level, as compsted to the house. See photos of The Mystery Spot on their web psge in Santa Cruz, CA where the unaltered background, which gives away the trick, is visible or purposely blocked from your view by hung sheets and the like... which ate the dead give away as to its nature as a mere opticsl illusion. Any subsequent claims are only taken as true by those who accepted the illusion as real and subsequently, fell for the claims of gravity anomolies existing, etc.

    I visited a friend one day in Anchorage, AK. He said there's a paved residential street on a hill where cars roll uphill. I wasn't buying it. His girlfriend said "we're going to show him." So the three of us go across town to this neighborhood and we went down a low grade hill (roughly over 20 degrees). He stops the car and puts it neutral. He asked if I'm ready and let's the parking brake off. We were coasting backwards up a hill. I was dumbfounded. He drove down the hill and turned around and we did the same in the opposite direction car coasting forward up the hill. I got out and he coasted up hill a few more time his girlfriend got out and asked something about what I think about it. I could only guess. As we drove off we speculated the obvious haunted ideas or a giant magnet. I remember it being said it doesn't matter what material composition is as long as it's round it'll roll the wrong way. My dad was in town from Minnesota and his rental coasted uphill too.

      It still has quite some (well known) treacherous issues, making sailing this area a bit more thrilling then average.
      1st.) Regular long lasting calms. For old sailing ships a grave danger.
      2nd.) Strong maritime streams (Gulf Stream) making Navigation trickier, and due to that
      3rd.) A good amount of swimming seaweed, ships can get stuck in.
      4th.) The region is prone to explosive degassing of methane-hydrates, which definitely caused some grave accidents.
      5th.) Not to forget the regular autumn hurricanes.
      There are definitely safer places to sail... (but also worse, like the North Atlantic with its winter storms, icebergs, rough coastlines, shallows, freak waves...)

    • @marceltroscianko
      @marceltroscianko 9 лет назад

    He's smart yet he doesn't know that the apple didn't really fall and hit Newton's head. It just fell. But this isn't a hate comment, I like this dude and the mysteries in thia channel. Keep it up!

    In string theory there are 11 dimensions. The first 3 dimensions are large (universe wide) then you have time and the rest are 6 dimensions that warped at plank length (extremely small). And how those extra 6 dimensions are warped and curved sets all the laws and physics of our universe.
    For example if you take a sheet of paper (pretend it's 2D) and crunch it in to a ball (3D) that will give you an extra 1D and how the paper is bent and curved would set all the laws and physics. The extra 6D are like a DNA of the universe. And in some places in the universe the extra 6D are bent or curved differently compared to the rest of universe.
    That can happen by freak technical accident or set by intentional technology.
    That change can last only while the technology is running or it can be permanent.
