Have to give John Williams a lot of credit. He was playing Barrios in the 60’s when other people outside of South America and guitarists had no idea who he was. Barrios’s compositions are wonderful.
Barrios in my opinion was a far more complete musician than Segovia. He wrote beautiful music too which Segovia never did. I really enjoyed this film. I am sure his soul is satisfied he is now getting the recognition he deserves.
I’d like to congratulate all of the people who worked hard to make this film real. I feel really proud that there was an artist like this from my beautiful country. One the best movies that I’ve ever seen, it touched my feelings and the desire to be more interested about my culture.
Agustin Barrios Mangore is generally known as the Great Paraguayan. He is my hero because of his music. I can't think of any other Paraguayan people that I have heard of.
I was so fortunate that my guitar teacher introduced me to Don Perez Freire and Maxixe as soon as he felt I was capable of learning it. The 3 B’s of the guitar: Bach, Barrios, and Brouewer!

Una gran historia desaprovechada, un elenco maravilloso representando escenas indignantes para su talento. Por ahora no existe otra película sobre Mangore, creo que la seguiré viendo a pesar de que sea una historia sin sentido y con escenas poco creíbles. What an amazing composer! I was introduced to his music many years ago (about 1969) by the playing of Antonio Lossada, Alirio Diaz and Hose Luis Gonzalez but knew absolutely nothing about the man. This movie is great. Thanks for posting it.
Puede que la película no haya sido de agrado para los paraguayos que querían que el actor que hace de Agustín tenga el acento paraguayo pero uno estudiando su biografía él tuvo que despojarse de sus raíces e incluso el acento debido a que vivió más en el extranjero que en su propio país. En Py le debemos a Agustín el prestigio, el culto y el recuerdo que incluso no lo adoptamos tal y como a otros artistas. Según entendí es que la mujer de Mangoré era de una flia muy influyente y ellos al ver que él volvía, la ilusionaba y luego la abandonaba construyó así su mala fama en la capital, lo que la influencia no dimencionó es el gran maestro de guitarra clásica que fue y es.

Not sure about depressed life… they were living in their inner world and best of them transcended the sorrows of the world. Mozart comes to mind… seems that Barrios in that category. Unfortunately those kind of sacrifice and dedication reflects poorly on people who surround them. Those artists can not be a fathers or brothers etc.. they are consumed by their inner world and become Music
Segovia became celebrated for his transcription of JS Bach's Chaconne in Dm. Segovia is an interpreter. Barrios is a Composer. Barrios is by far the greater of the two.

i like to play barrios , particularly his tremelo pieces,i also like to play segovias pieces , the b minor study is a joy.Completely different styles of composition.Completely different artists,ive heard people say segovia would not have barrios played in his masterclasses.I ve also read after barrios died ,segovia said , Barrios was a friend , and a genius, but that he tried to ruin himself, and that he left behind a great wealth of beutiful music. People sometimes sound as though segovia some how personally stopped barrios from being as succesful as him. Wat ever personally there was between the two,well never know for sure , i like to think in guitar heavan they are together , with tarrega , sor and bream,making a magical sound ., what music that must be . I d just like to say , thanks to all of them.....
As a guitar player this movie is brilliant. Why isn't there many more like it. As i am aware of the movie " Swing " and " Sweet and low down " which are also two of my favourites.

In Rico Stover's book "Six Silver Moonbeams" he writes of a number of events that he had heard about from friends and students of Barrios'. In that book Segovia requests the music to "La Catedral" (which he never got) saying that he would make Barrios' music famous all around the world. But Barrios is shunned by Segovia when he finally makes it to Europe to perform. That story is missing from the film. I found the last piece composed by Barrios "The Grand Tremolo" to be his swan song and it, too, is missing from the film. It was composed only 4 months before the master died. He finally wrote it out in pencil because his students didn't want it lost to posterity. Lucky they did because it is as great as the "Alhambra: piece by Tarrega. ruclips.net/video/MTIhlf85zTc/видео.html Lastly, the title of the last piece is known as "Alms for the Love of God." It was titled after Barrios died but many claim that Barrios was visited by a beggar woman and she asked Barrios for a gift in exchange for the blessing of God. When John Williams told this story to the audience I took notice and went to meet with him after the concert. I told Mr. Williams that that story was made up. Instead the student Master Morales (who took over the school in El Salvador) explained to my friend Rosamunda (a student from the school) that Barrios asked him (Morales) to title the piece. Master Morales came up with the title (paraphrasing) "Serenade for the Goddess of Music." Then one day the title of "Alms for the Love of God" appeared on the music. John Williams said to me, "But the knocking on the door..." I had a copy of the manuscript of "The Grand Tremolo" which I handed to John Williams and I said, "Barrios had beautiful hand writing. Look at the title on the original." He noted that it was in very poor hand writing. And he said, "Oh... it's not in Barrios' hand writing."

The music school that Barrios ran still exists in El Salvador. One of Barrios' student, Master Morales, took over the duties of teaching guitar at the school. Two of Master Morales' students are good friends of mine. What I wrote came from them listening to Master Morales taught. According to them, Segovia asked for music that Barrios composed and he promised to make Barrios' name famous throughout the world. Yet Segovia only played Barrios's music in private and never in public.
I really really like each actor in this movie. Even the ones in small roles. Also I notice some historic details are very accurate. Its just sad that this movie is not 100% good in every scene. Some scenes are too vague, too slow, or too fast. Separate scenes importance isn't as clear. Unevenly paced.

I really really like each actor in this movie. Even the ones in small roles. Also I notice some historic details are very accurate. Its just sad that this movie is not 100% good in every scene. Some scenes are too vague, too slow, or too fast. Separate scenes importance isn't as clear. Unevenly paced.
