This makes me sad. Joanne’s is the last FABRIC store. House of Fabrics, Beverlys Fabrics are long gone. I know Hobby Lobby and Walmart, even Micheals has fabric but no where near what Joanne’s offers. I won’t get into why I won’t shop at Hobby Lobby.

Is anyone old enough to remember when Joanns was mostly a fabric store? It was pretty much the only one around . I used to go with my mom, now I go with my daughter & granddaughter who is 8 & is trying to learn to crochet.

It used to be Joann's and Hancock Fabrics. We lost Hancock about 20-25 years ago.

When you corner the market on a product such as fabrics and quality sewing supplies, you will never go belly up. When they decided to expand to compete with Hobby Lobby, Michawls and Walmart, they shot themselves in the foot. Supply and demand economics 101.

Joann is my favorite store. I will be so sad if they close. There's no other place that you can just wander up and down the aisles and squeeze the yarn. No other store compares.
My local Joann is really going downhill. Lots of empty shelves, in fact whole sections. The store itself is really in bad physical shape too. Lights going out, AC not working, etc. Never ever enough people at the register. But super sweet employees doing their best. I’m still going but it sure isn’t a fun shopping experience anymore. Hope they can turn it around!
So, sorry to hear that; hearts my heart. My store is the opposite and our staff is very sweet, as well. It was only one lady at the register at mine.
Mine has looked like there should have been a Store Closing Final Days on the doors for several months and last week there was a store closing sign on the door. It looked like they stopped supplying that store at least 3 months ago and I know thread wasn't being restocked often for at least the last year.
The Joann's in Vestal, NY closed last year but then a gorgeous new one opened nearby in a way better location.
Aside from some quilting specialty stores and Walmart, our city doesn't have ANYWHERE to buy fabric except one Joann store. We do have a Michael's, so there are a couple of places to get yarn, but can you imagine having no store with a decent selection fabric, notions, quilt batting, etc. in a city of 300,000? I thought as bad as retails gets, fabric, yarn and craft stores would survive because don't you have to touch and feel and see those things in person? Very disturbing!
Love the Halo 👋👋 I saw the business report 💔 They're the only fabric store in my county ! We have 2 Its a 20 minutes drive either way Haven't needed to go this year You can do online or pick up too! Id definitely stock up on basics because hard times ate here for many 🙏 All the fabric and yarn made overseas If transportation is stopped by conflict No thread fabric or fiber unless locally sourced 🙏

you know what this means? we need to shift all our crafty shopping to exclusively Joann's. Thats what Im going to do. I have several things that I do, crochet, baking, I want to get into cake decorating, as soon as I finish up the crochet projects Im currently working on, Im going to teach myself how to hand embroider. I mean...all of us working together can kill that $1.1 billion in debt...never underestimate the power of crafters XD

JoAnn's is a 45 minute drive for me (through downtown traffic). I can't drive and have to find someone to give me a ride. Hobby Lobby and Michaels are about five minutes away. While I would love to shop exclusively at JoAnn's, it simply isn't feasible for me.
So, the first I had heard of this was from my kid (23), and I was told that there was a movement and people are trying to buy up stock to help Jo Anns out. I think this might be a thing that the fiber community could potentially pony up and make happen. It would need some people to get agressive on it. (Not me, I can barely function as a person). It would take some research to see what Could be done at our level as the consumer.
Ms Ola Joe!! My go to yarn is also Big Twist!! It’s so soft and so affordable!! They have added a few new colors as well! I asked about my Joann store closing and the manager said none were closing in Oklahoma City metro, so that’s a relief!! Thanks so much for sharing!!🧶🤗❤️

I noticed over last few months our Joann’s had almost no yarn in stock when you looked online for it in store. Yesterday online showed a lot of yarn in new yarns and other regular yarns. Our store is always busy. It’s 2 blocks from me. I doubt it closes. I sure hope not.
I'm pretty positive my Joann isn't closing judging by the fact that they put a piece of paper in the bag saying that they are hiring. If I got a job there, it would be all spent on resin supplies, yarn, and other crochet stuff.
Sadness but thank you for the info. MidWest only one Joanne left around me other closes 10+years ago.
Love their brand of yarn. For the money better than red heart or Caron simply soft. And always thought they had better fabric over Hobby Lobby *shrug*

I went to one for the very first time last month. My sister and I were the only customers there. I couldn’t believe the amount of fabric they have. My mom loves red heart yarn and I was able to find it there. If they really are closing then I need to go back down to pick up more things. I saw so many colours of canvas I haven’t seen here in Canada.
I’ve been so sad and anxious since I saw Me Sew Crazy’s video. Big Twist is my go to!! I love their season fabrics and fleece. I seriously hope they can find a solution. Thanks for sharing this info.

It is my go to store. I don’t do on line and it’s easy for me to get to. I don’t drive and there is one store I can get to. I will be devestated if it closes.

I love joanns. It's my favorite store to shop at if i don't do online where I live I mostly use online . I like the material and patterns also.
Joannes was my go to favorite until they let pets in. I'm deathly allergic to cats and dogs and they contaminate the fabric and yarn and I can no longer say I'm allergy free in my crafting. I only get it from online now unless it's something encased in plastic or a sealed package

I haven’t seen any animals in my Joanns, but I can say it’s getting rediculous with people bringing dogs into stores.
Andrea, last year I heard on the news that Joann had filed bankruptcy and was going to close around January/February this year but I thought they were doing better after that since it’s almost the end of the year.
I’m going to be sooo sad if they go under, even tho they’re abt 2 hours one way from me, I still purchase from them. I order online and have my brother in law pick up for me.
I hope they at least get bought out like Michael's. The fisherman's wool was one of the first yarns I ever bought. I could crochet and also wet felt with it. I've used the macrame yarn to make plant holders. Big Hugs Ole Joe 🤗

My store closed almost 3 years ago…Loved it and now prices have gone up sooo much..The employees were awesome…There is one about 1 hr away but I haven’t been there,and who knows,it may close as well..I loath the Michaels near me,the employees are so rude and unfriendly..I only shop HL when I have to,or for clearance and sales…
I went to my local Joanns on Sept. 28, on a Thursday around 2pm, and they were closed, locked and dark. A sign on the door said they were going to be closed that day and sorry for the inconvenience. So odd!

Hope they don’t close. It’s the only yarn place in my town besides walmart and hobby lobby and I refuse to shop hobby lobby.
Over 2 years or so ago, Michaels was purchased by a flip and turn company (Apollo Global). They went private too. Just this last year they reduced all manager hours from 40 to 36….which wasn’t good if you needed the money for those hours lost. Additionally Michaels cut the hours of every team member (who wasn’t management). Say from 20 to 5- 10 hrs a week. As you can imagine they put that stress onto the management by giving them more duties. Lastly they started to sell their store credit card, daily presses from corporate to meet those expectations for a card that has an Apr of almost 30%.
Ohhh my goodness! WOW 😮 thank you for sharing what you know. That APR, is outrageous too.
My cashier the other day told me that they were told they have maybe a year left before closing. They are bankrupt. Getting new vendors since they can’t pay the others etc. they fired lots of higher ups, etc. pretty sad 😢
I talked to someone at my local store about this. Not all stores are closing, mine is not. We only have two in an hour drive time. Of course my closest store is super small too.
I go there every few weeks. They always have the deals 😭 I’d be devastated

I work one night a week at our local Joann’s. I can say all my years in retail, the industry has definitely changed, particularly since the Covid lockdowns. The foot traffic is way down and don’t see any improvement there. I’m sure online sales are still way up. I couldn’t blame retail for closing stores. People just don’t go out shopping like they used to. I love fabric and yarn and have to see it in person, so it really will be sad if this chain doesn’t make it .

Aw, darn! I hope Joann isn't closing. I don't go into the store very often since I'm not sewing as much but I buy yarn from them online when they have a good sale. I love their K&C cotton and for big projects, the Big Twist is great. The closest Hobby Lobby has about halved their yarn section, it's so depressing.

Joann's raising prices to the extreme level that they did... it is the number one way to lose business and risk closure.
I wanted kona black fabric. $9.00 yd. I can get it cheaper at FQS .
You may have noticed that there was a “We’re Hiring“ sign on the door in your video. My store has a hiring sign on the door also.
They are hiring part-time staff because they laid off all their full-time people besides store managers months ago; it was on Reddit at the time. Not a good sign.

After having worked at a Joann Distribution Center, and based on how I and many other employees were treated in regards to production, I don't feel sorry for them closing. Not to sound lazy, but their production standards for filling store orders and moving freight is unreal. Humans have limits to the physical work they can do over the coarse of 8 or more hours. I've never been in one of their stores. I've only browsed their website, but never bought anything. Nope I don't feel sorry for Joann at all. Not to mention their prices are outrageous. I love Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn brand. They have tons of colors available at affordable prices.
I understand what you mean .. I feel the same way about Lowe’s. I worked for them for years and they do not care about their employees, my husband has been with Home Depot as a store manager for 23 yrs and they treat him so well!! But I have to say when Joann’s has a sale, it’s worth a trip to shop … their decor barely hits the shelf before they have a 40% off sale!!
I just did a curbside pick-up but I saw, when ordering on-line, more than normal quantities. I thought maybe they were unloading inventory. Time will tell

I worked for Joann Fabrics about 30 years ago as a merchandise manager. I had a nightmare once where I walked into the store and the whole floor set up had been changed. To my surprise, there was
(Hit enter by accident) Anyway, there was no fabric in the store. Only crafts and seasonal items. At the time I thought it was prophetic, LOL! It is still the best place for fabric in central Florida, though.

The one in Torrance can close and it will be no great loss. They sold me a "used" $1500 overlock that was supposed to be new. I had to send it out for service before I ever used it. Shady AND sketchy. Hope they close that location.
I had some money left on gift cards and spent it all. Their low stock price concerned me.
I love most the fabrics at Joann’s, BUT wish you could order 1 yard..not have to buy 2 yards of a fabric. Should be our choice. I would order a lot if this was possible.
If they didn't try to rip us international buyers off, they certainly wouldn't be struggling. So many of us were made up when we found out that they were starting international deliveries and we didn't mind the delivery costs, BUT the actual yarn prices are about double what they are for those in the US, even when they are on sale 😞😞😢😢 xx
I hope they don't close. I love going in. It will hurt a lot of crafters. I also buy beads there to do beaded ornaments. I will cry if they close. That will leave just Wal-Mart, Meijer's and Hobby Lobby.

I hope that they don’t close. They also have great jewelry findings. I do indeed remember when they were a fabric store. Unfortunately, while it’s not totally out of the way, it moved further out from where I live so I don’t go there frequently. I wish they would move closer my way. A big hole was was created when AC Moore closed. Michael’s is OK, Hobby Lobby is expensive.. Neither one was the feel of AC Moore or Joann’s, for that matter.

Joannes biggest mistake was enlarging from fabrics to everything under the sun then raising their prices so high they collapsed. They should have stayed all fabric and sewing notions and supplies. Period.
