- NIVIUK Open - Task 7 - Goal
Colombia really really delivered some amazing flying in this trip!!!
Today the day started cloudy and dark and, from the bus taking us to takeoff we could admire heavy rain showers behind Zarzal. In the Alps, with weather like that the task would be canceled and people would go cycling. Here we have got a ~70km task with multiple start options (mountains south of La Union or from Zarzal) some flying towards south and then a long final leg going straight to Pista Obando.
Before start I was wandering around and I have seen some pilots sneaking across the flats. The sky looked better on the other side so I have done the same.
I connected on the other side close to the pig farms but I was probably off cycle so, suddenly, it did not seem that 15minutes will be enough to climb to cloudbase and go the last 3km to the start line… but Colombia delivered: a 5m/s rocket put me fast at the cloud and I was on the start line with plenty of time to spare.
The race was very very fast, full bar always. The instruments reported a 41km/h average speed at the end and that’s incredible.
Goal, beer, goal bus and now, with the luggage packed, I am ready to say good bye to this fantastic place! An absolute paradise! Hopefully the local people will be kind enough to welcome us year after year and share their corner of paradise with us.
I am quite happy with my flying: it was not fast but surely consistent: 14 consecutive goals in this 2 competitions, that 100% succes rate! I lost a lot due due to 3 airspace infringements/penalty. 2 of them altitude (8 and 16% of points) and 1 x horizontal with a 100% or ponts) That’s beginner’s mistake and a part of the blame I put it on the “getting used with the Submarine”. Difficult to see and use the instruments.
The only injury I had was while offloading gliders on behalf of lazy pilots, quite happy it’s not related to flying and the only loss was the Leatherman which I hope will fall into good hands that will use it well and put me in their prayers!
Hasta luego Colombia and muchas gracias!!!
Congratulation and thank you for sharing your videos it is a great motivation.
Congrats ! Thx for sharing these flights !
@@anttonarretz4551 Thanks man! My pleasure. It was fun to make them. I am heading back to winter now so they will be good for me, as well, to relive the excitement!
Did someone die at the Niviuk Open? I know that just a couple of days before the competition someone died in the British Winter Open. Was there a second death?
@@luftigunterwegs3283 No, there was no accident at NIVIUK Open. But the memorial for Franz is still there, a good reminder for all of us that this game could have consequences, especially for the ones left behind.
Thank you and congratulations florinelzx6r
@@ramonpernalette6925 Thanks! It was a lot of good fun flying in Colombia this year. The conditions were amazing, again, almost as strong as last year!
