  • Welcome to CRIMSON GUITARS HQ www.crimsonguitars.com/
Start to finish, in a single video, watch this 42,000 year old New Zealand Kauri go from a large piece of timber to a beautifully finished guitar.
    #luthier #guitarbuilder #kauri #fullbuild #guitarbuilding
    Chapters:
    0:00 Introduction
0.17 Beginning the whole process. Sawing up this beautiful wood
1:56 A beautiful Fender will donate all its electronics to this build.
2:45 The neck - strips of black veneer and Kaurie
4.00 The body - making a hollow body from very soft wood - so much sawdust
8:30 The top is made to fit perfectly
9:36 The neck and headstock are ready to be shaped - and braces are cut for the top
11:24 Putting a bevel on the F hole - glue the braces
12:22 Finalising the shape of the guitar
13:16 Finessing the bracing, adding a bridge plate
17:20 Gluing the binding to the top
19:32 Gluing the top to the body and smoothing out the kinks
21:54 The downside of Kaurie - a very soft wood - bring on the Cactus Juice
    24:15 Binding the F hole
30:25 Working on the neck - inserting carbon fibre rods and truss rod
34:04 Measuring and cutting frets - as well as the fretboard inlays
36:10 The wood is still too soft so back to the drawing board - flooding it with superglue
37:03 Inserting the frets, Crimson Logo, and side dots
40:41 Working out the routing for the neck and pick-up cavities
41:08 Finishing and fitting the neck
43:25 Superglued - lacquered and now strong enough for the bridge and electronics
46:45 Neckplate, tuners, control knobs and strings
51:59 The last of the finishing touches
    53:09 Conclusion

This build got me into the channel. You make it seem like a cake walk. It wasn't.
Your creative approach in other builds made me appreciate your skills as a craftsman. Your candidness made me appreciate you as a person. Even though you're not the most business minded person, I think that's actually a strength, you're hands down one of my favourite RUclipsrs and this is one of my favourite projects.

Fender is doing a great job of "rounding" the fretboard edges on their better guitars and even some less expensive models...it dramatically increases grip comfort. Even Epiphone does it. I didn't notice that on this guitar. Did I miss that, or did you forego that for some reason?

Material waste is a massive issue in the world right now and shamefully guitar building has a terrible track record for it too. Remember that behind every regulation there was probably ongoing exploitation and bad business practices that necessitated those regulations.
