Hey Rams,i ended up having a conversation with the Guerlain boutique manager at Saks fifth avenue ,hes doing a Q&A with Thierry Wasser and he promised to ask him a question for me and i asked him to ask Mr Wasser if there was any truth to the fact that they were going to bring back Derby for limited edition. He promised he would ask. He said sadly it didn't sell well and its all about the numbers but hed ask anyway. Anyway I just thought it was cool that I was able to talk to him and he promised that for me. I'm excited for an answer.

LIDGE is certainly my favourite, with Habit rouge a close second. Habit Rouge l'Eau would be on the 3rd spot, but it seems not to be anyone's favourite or highly ranked anywhere else. I guess i have to try Heritage now ! Nice video 👌

I just got myself the 1985 vintage Derby( the eagle bottle) paid a lot for it but it was well worth the price. My favorite fragrance of all time. Wish I could have more but hard to come by

Just got a bottle of Shalimar EDP and wore it to bed last night. What a surprise to see this video when I woke up! I concur, Shalimar is amazing, eyes-roll-back-in-your-head gorgeous. I never would’ve discovered it, and other female marketed fragrances, without you sharing your love for it on this channel! Thank you again, good sir!

This was great. I agree about niche vs these classics - I’ve been getting a bit tired of the new niche perfumes and have been really appreciating Guerlain and Chanel and other classics lately.

Chanel at least still puts out great perfume, while Guerlain just reformulates everything to the point it’s garbage.
Guerlain vol de nuit extrait is beautiful, right up your street Ramsey. To my nose it smells completely different to the edt, it has a mesmerising violet leaf which gives it that gasoline vibe reminiscent of Fahrenheit. I would say it's quite masculine compared to the edt. I have a 7.5 ml spray version with a blue and white porcelain style bottle. Extremely good perfume.
It is on my to sniff list... there are so many of those old Guerlain Extraits I have never smelled... for example I never smelled Mitsouko extrait or Vol de Nuit or Samsara .. so much sniffing to do and so little time 🐽
I truly agree with you about the Guerlain bottles and liked the diversity of the bottles.
The bottles were art in and of themselves ....shame everything is standardized now😒

I did know about Shalimar being the most popular fragrance ever for women. I have a lot of different versions of these perfumes and perhaps some are more popular than others but I do love and wear all of the older ones.
Absolutely love shalimar... in any version or concentration... it really feels like I am wearing an artifact of historical precident and extreme importance when I wear it 😊
With the Jersey and chain you should be in an E-40 or UGK video!

I have Vetiver and Heritage in both the "listerine" bottles and the new L'Homme Ideal-style bottles and they smell exactly the same to my nose. People in this hobby go crazy with reformulation hysteria and it's so tiresome. The atomizers on the new bottles completely trounce the "listerine" bottle atomizers, so I consider the new bottles an overall win. Awesome video as always, Ramsey!

Also my bottle of Monsieur is an older one with 'handkerchief of monsieur' so getting mixed up a little.... not only is Guerlain my favourite house for the fragrances, but also the bottles as a collector and they are making a big mistake standardising everything.

Wow - I can imagine what hard work it was to review all these wonderful and classic Guerlains - (my favorite house) - and then ranking them as well! Thanks, Ramsey. We do appreciate you. I think numbers of people have that reaction to the jasmine that you talk about but I am one of those for whom Samsara EDP is my all time favorite sandlewood - of all the sandalwoods - including the Chanels. Being an American of Indian heritage - and having had the privilege of traveling in India many many times - I can offer two things to the conversation. 1. India and Indians to me is not / are not as "spiritual" as so many westerners find it - it is a country full of folks like any other with struggles like any other - but India is to me - the ultimate olfactory experience. It's unique smells are what make India unique. And so - Samsara - to me - is a transporting, spiritual experience. What I think Guerlain intended to arrive at with this classic scent - is exactly what I get - it is the essence of any given Indian palace or temple or even prayer altar in any given private home - at dawn or at dusk - and the smell of ancient books - ancient dried flowers - and ancient, burning wood. Samsara to me is my early early childhood - in a bottle.

Since getting into perfumes I swore I won't get into vintage perfumes, they make no sense at all and now I'm hunting for old guerlains like "800€ Derby seems like an absolute steal!", even when that's no where near to my price range haha. Thank's for the video, such an interesting house!

The 'big boy' vintage Habit Rouge was a bottle from April 1993.

Great list! The time flew by. It’s hard with so many legends, isn’t it? And I totally get you: wearing some of these makes you wonder why you keep bothering with other fragrances.
Do try to sample Parure, a legendary long lost and much lamented fruity chypre. I’d love to hear your take on it and how it stacks up against the mighty Mitsouko.
Its so hard to find now and so expensive now a days...if I can procure a few precious drops I will be glad to talk about it on the channel ✌️
Great video! L'Instant de Guerlain was my signature scent for years, but vintage Habit Rouge EDT is my favorite. I still wear it all the time, and I have multiple back up bottles of it. I haven't smelled the current formulation, but that bit of skank and spice in the vintage is so incredible. Thanks for taking the time to prepare and record this overview, it is much much appreciated!

I recently found a Heritage gift box from 1998. 50ml edt and body wash. Gold cap, gold sprayer. Love it. I also have the 2015 debut of Dress Code. The praline note does make it sweeter than the edt which I prefer. But real nice on a cold day.
Totally agree... the dress code flanker is a bit to sweet for me too but you are right in the cold it is beautiful & i think it is a better fragrance than their new oud khôl

I've finally gotten all the way through this survey of Guerlain.
Wow, I have barely scratched the surface of Guerlain. I have Vetiver, Heritage, Habit Rouge, Homme, Homme Intense, Homme L'eau Boisée, L'Instant de Guerlain, Mouchoir de Monsieur, L'Homme Ideal L'Intense. I've managed to put my nose briefly on L'Heure Bleu, Mitsouko, Shalimar and Samsara. I loved the classic smell of L'Heure Bleu and Shalimar, and thought Samsara smelled "medicinal", although that might have been due to it having turned. I haven't even gotten my nose on Jicky yet. Little afraid of the animalic intensity of it, but I will probably seek a full bottle for historical reasons. I do enjoy just a slight, very slight, "halitosis" vibe of some 1980's fragrances like Floris Elite (1980), Lancome Sagamore (1986) and even to a lesser degree Tiffany for Men (1989). No civet notes listed in any of them so I'm not sure if it's the characteristics of the musk or maybe something like animalis, which I think was some commercially available material used by perfumers back then. Anyway, I've got a long way to go with Guerlain. I'll probably never get my nose on the discontinued Derby or Le Frenchy. Although I just got a just got a clone of Le Frenchy. So far my favorite Guerlains are Vetiver, Heritage, L'Instant de Guerlain. Love the history of the early 20th century classic "feminine" Guerlain's (L'Heure Bleu, Mitsouko, Shalimar, Vol de Nuit) and their iconic position in perfumery. The Homme line is way to faint a performer for me, with L'eau Boisée being more substantial and to my liking. L'Homme Ideal L'Intense is nice but too modern for my tastes to be a favorite. Vetiver is THE reference vetiver. Best there ever was. And the most influential vetiver. Hope I can find a vintage bottle.

I bought a vintage Habit Rouge splash that looks exactly like the one you show in this video. I was shocked at how animalic it got on my skin. I mean Salome level animalic. I don't know if it is my skin chemistry, the maceration or it is supposed to be like that.

It is a very hard task to rank guerlain perfumes, but for me this list isn't complete without "jardins de bagatelle" from 1983, and "champs elysees" from a decade later, two of the most beautiful florals ever created.
Yesterday i smelled l'instant for women edp in the original version, and was amazed by the good quality of the ingredients. (While the composition is less to my taste, so i hesitated to buy it)
Yes you are spot on... but this is not a complete list but a list of Guerlains but rather a ranking of Guerlains in my collection 😊
Oh my goodness I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I found an old vintage Shalimar extrait bottle from the 70’s. I literally just put a drop on my wrist and it’s Amazing. It’s going in the “vault” .
Now I need to find a vintage Mitsuoko . The bottle I have from a few yrs ago is not all that great. I also need to find an old Chergui.
I have a newer bottle of it and its been reformulated, it’s weak. What I don’t like about Serge Lutens bottles is that they are screw top and ppl can easily mess with it. I like a sealed bottle. So if I find a vintage Chergui, it has to be from someone I trust .

Woah I was expecting shalimar to be number 1 but yh I came to the same realization recently when i bought van cleefs precious Oud which was meant for women unknowingly and wow it’s literally the only vanilla fragrance I like. Maybe I’d give shalimar a try as well. But yh guys don’t be afraid if it says feminine. Look at the notes ❤

Shalimar is one of the greatest fragrances I have ever sniffed and truly changed my life because it opened the door to the world of "womens" perfume for me 🤌🤌🤌

I realized that The Moon by Frederic Malle is what Thierry Wasser should have done with Santal Royal. They’re both sharp oud fragrances with oud and leather in the base however Julien Rasquinet using fruits in a far superior way with the litchi and raspberry than the peach Wasser uses.
Completely agree .. thinking of selling my bottle of Santal Royal after I do a scathing review of it 😂😂😂

The only Guerlain i had was Shalimar but i sold it-it's hard for me to deal with the civet note. Castoreum smells more mild and i will probably go for Antaeus :)

shalimar came out in 1921 same year as coty's emeraude.
Many of the databases show 1925
this is a video i have been waiting for. brilliant👍. I personally prefer mitsouko to sharlama. unfortunately my habitrouge and heritage are both red cap bottles from around 2018 which simply not satisfactory. I know I can expect much more from vintage bottles.

hey man, how old is your bottle of habit rouge in the thumbnail pic for the vid if you know? i have a bottle on the way, its a spray bottle but has the same gold cap and same label on the front....confusing part is that its batch code zx0m7, which would theoretically make it a 2008 bottle which is impossible with that bottle and cap lol.
Its a 90s bottle I think

Interestingly, fresh check says that your version 9TO2 is 2019. Mine is 2012, and I checked because I got the packaging in collaboration with Kuntzel + Daygas. smells richer than the currently selling versions and the juice is darker in color. Lasts pretty long, and projects well for the first 3 hours.

I read this one takes on a smokey leathery quality and has a mature feel to it. Waiting for my decant to arrive to try it myself

So my first impressions is a bit of disappointment tbh. It's basically just a slightly less sweet version of the edp maybe on par with the sweetness of the extreme version and I didn't get that strong bold opening people were raving about (The whole reason for wanting to try it). It by no means smells terrible but it's basically just too similar to the edp for my liking.
My guess is I got unlucky and received a decant from the newer bottles which is supposed to be weaker than the black bottle version but I also don't care enough to seek out the black bottles to test that for myself.

Guerlain should be ashamed of themselves for selling such garbage. Mitsuoko is nothing but a ghost of what it was. It’s now watered down so much that all u smell is alcohol, they reformulate everything . If it cost 5c it would be too expensive. Pretty much everything Guerlain has released in the past 10 years has been garbage. They’re the kings of reformulation. I wouldn’t buy anything Guerlain has released in the past 7-10 yrs. And Mitsuoko, only vintage before 1995.

Absolument d’accord avec cela. Les grands chefs d’œuvre de Guerlain sont l’ombre d’eux-mêmes, méconnaissables et les nouvelles créations ne leur arrivent pas à la cheville. Juste du marketing bavard et tape à l’œil et de l’emballage.
You're in luck. There was a Metallica ebay listing yesterday that I saw. At $2600 I said "oh h*** no". The new limited release of Shalimar, Guerlain should have limited purchases to 1 per person at $124. I see eBay sellers who must have bought 20 bottles and one seller listed them at $179. Again I said "oh h*** no" you keep it.

@@RamseytheRam It's good but not that great for that price. It looks to have been opened and used. The freshness escaped. LOL Guerlain has a new limited one named Imagine for $650. No telling what those will show up on eBay for.

My advice to you is never sell your perfume... even if you hate it... set it aside to revisit it .... there are so many frags I hated that I now Love 😁

Freshly spraying business cards is actually not a bad idea... 🤔 Instead of pocket squares that is. The card will say "Now take off your pants" 🤣 Ba doom tshhhh 🥁 21st century dating. The month comes BEFORE the day. That's how we date. But daaaaamn.....that top 5....tough to beat. Vetiver edt might be in there in place of one of the Shalimars for me, but yeah. Guerlain over Chanel and Dior ANY day of da week....month AND day. That's how we date.
I think Guerlain is probably my favorite house... but I will do Ranked Family Portraits on Chanel & Dior too... it will not be simple 😊
