I have a bottle that I inherited from my late father.....it’s a go to if I’m feeling low and wish my father was still here to talk to.....I give it a spray and all is good in my world again.
Amazing review!! As a woman I have to say, that I would rather wear the men’s fragrances of Guerlain rather than women’s as last ones are being too sweet and too much of vanilla to me. The men’s versions of their fragrances are just marvellous and breathtaking. In love with Habite rouge and green Vetiver
Pep, your description exactly reflects my experience with HR, which by now has probably become my signature scent. But, I also love Heritage, Vetiver and L'eau Boisee. Guerlain is the most unique and distinguished house and my personal favourite.
Just ordered Habit Rouge Gift Set box , edt, from Fragrancent for $45. I also got Fahrenheit Cologne. I like it . Smells like Fahrenheit , plus I can wear it more into the warmer weather . Now onto Antaeus. Thanks for the review.
Nice video, Pep. Informative, straight to the point and utilising no silly gimmicks. (No hand claps at the start of videos, no silly spins and no ' lets get into its') Looking forward to your livestream. G'day mate!
I think your “Mad Men” imagery was spot-on. I really like (heading toward love) Habit Rouge but it took me a couple of years to get here. I don’t think the Shalimar link did it any favors for me because I would reflexively try and compare the two and always come away with Shalimar being my clear preference. Once I stopped thinking about Habit Rouge as just “Shalimar for men,” I started to appreciate it much more for what it is and what feels like to wear it.
Hello Pep. Greetings from Germany. You are spot on with your description on this one. The first time I smelled this was probably decades ago, and when I smelled it again 2 years ago, I was transported back to my childhood. That lemony powdery creamy leather smell, is still today, quite unique! And it's a great value too. Very french smelling if you ask me! Cheers, Patrick ;-)
Mad Men is one of my favorite shows. I'm starting to get interested in smelling these "timeless" fragrances. Hopefully I'll get a chance to get my nose on this when the world opens up.
Indeed, this is a timeless classic and not dated at all. I agree with your association of polished wooden floors. I really appreciate the juxtaposition of the bright notes and the guerlinade. I am also not sure whether I had smelled this in my childhood, but it’s just got a classic masculine DNA from that time. I read somewhere that this is supposed to be one of the first orientals. Thanks so much for the review and talking about a great classic.
Goood review! 18th may it will be my 31 bday! i bought one bottle of this pece of art! (from me to me lol) I remeber when I first smelled it in a travel in Paris, I was 27 and I never did forget how amaziing it was! I
I blindbought this and am glad I did. Just the right SOTD for a bank holiday in Germany. So many things to still explore in the house of Guerlain, Heritage being one of them. Thanks for the informative video, Pep!
Your review of this classic fragrance was the best I have heard, or read, hands down. Brilliant. FYI, I own both the EDT and the EDP. The EDT projects and performs better than the EDP… but both are great in their own right. Keep up these outstanding reviews.
I smelled this for the first time recently and loved it - enough to buy a full bottle. I was thinking that the mid closely resembles Chanel Egoiste and lo and behold Habit Rouge contains ALL of Egoiste’s mid notes (according to Fragrantica anyway).
Wow! Had no idea that HR was Shalimar’s male counterpart........interesting! I like how you connect fragrance scents with your childhood. That’s where Emeraude, Chanel #5 and Coco take me......my Mom wore them 😊💛.
I came for the review of Guerlain Habit Rouge, but was blown away by your beard and hair haha. Wow the color and style of your beard and hair are just awesome and your fashion is spot on to complete the look. I was very happy to see in your review that there is definitely a difference between the EDT and the EDP. If I have a choice I will generally go with a Parfum, but I was reading customer reviews before buying and there seemed to be enough reviewers that were commenting on there being a difference and not liking the parfum to make me look to see what some popular RUclips reviewer were saying about it and which they like more. I watched two others and neither of them mentioned there was a difference and one of them did not specify which they were reviewing. Great review, it was very informative. Thanks for the review and cheers.
Love the edp. I don't wear it a lot but really enjoy it when I do. I get carnation from it. Recommend for guy 40 and upwards. Distinctive, sophisticated and sexy.
I am in my twenties and absolutely love the edp version. I wear fragrances like, bvlgari man in black and Cartier Declaration Dun Soir so, it isn't really that far from my taste. Let's just say I have an old soul. 😉
Finally decided to repurchase this classic and give it a fair chance this time. Wore it only once several years ago, and immediately gave it away. Looking forward to receiving it, along with Heritage, in the mail next week. Will be patient this time. :) Thank you Pep!
I have the EDT&EDP it's most definitely a very MATURE CLASSIC scent, great for cloudy rainy days and just an all year around really GOOD cologne,I get great performance, good review my man...
This is a fabulous review. I got this fragrance to try about a month ago (it was on offer for an amazing price) and I agree with everything you said about it. I don't think a lot of 25 year olds will be comfortable with this. I definitely get that lemon at the start and in the dry down (at least on me anyway) I get a strong reminder of Turkish Delight. I love it when you review the classic male fragrances.
Will buy the new version with a squared bottle or the version you have in this video, which is older. I still remember how it smells when i tried it some years ago. I hope it's not reformulated too much ...
@@TheScentinel I've heard that they respect a lot their old fragrances indeed, but nothing is worse than buying something and realize it's not the same than when you discovered it first... But I guess it's inevitable 😬 discovered a wrapped new 17 years old batch also on the Internet, might as well go for it and hope time didn't impact it too much !
I own and do like HR edt as well, but don't get any rose of it. It's carnation. Please sample Balenciaga Florabotanica if you can, it captures the same carnation accord combinated with rose water and some green accords. It works wonders in the high heat.
Just received Dior's Eau Savauge yesterday . Very very nice. Thank you for the review. Got a tester of 4711 for $6 . What a deal. Also just got today Hermes's Intense Vetiver. So, in short, going to sample a pocket perfume of Habit Rouge. Thanks for your reviews Pep.
I snagged an 800ml bottle of 4711 for $40 USD right after CV hit. I’ve been using it out of an atomizer to disinfect my phone and other small items, and it’s been a huge treat. At the time, the price was comparable to hand sanitizer and rubbing alcohol.
I’ll have to get around to the edt..my only experience is with the edp, which is all around excellent. Vetiver is another favorite of mine from the house.
The first time I sniffed, it was a hard no. Just revisited this a few nights ago, and I could appreciate it much more. Not entirely sure if I'm 'ready' for it yet or if it suits me but I definitely plan to give a proper testing.
I've never tried the EDT but do have the EDP which is fantastic . However I do have the deodorant which is my personal favorite . A bit lighter and sweeter than the EDP and was wondering if you or any of your viewers have the deodorant and could confirm if it is similar to the EDT ? Cheers Pep Great review as always.
I have been wearing this fragrance since 1970 , I love the smell , but since few years the old odour is not available any more , I need to know where I can find it .
I was always impressed with the performance of the new formulations, especially this one and Vetiver edt. Still hoping to get my hands on Dress Code. Have you smelled the L'eau version? If so, what are your thoughts?
Habit Rouge is definitely a "class" perfume, with little success nowadays compared to "blockbusters" fragrances targeted to consumers. Actually "le Nez de Guerlain" might be also responsible for the vulgarisation of many fragrances like Shalimar, l'Instant, and Habit Rouge original formulas. And why so many flankers l'Homme Ideal?? .
This is just a masterpiece, forget being dictated to by restrictions of age, gender, 1965 and just sink into a fantastic opening and lose yourself in the dry down.
Agree, I love it as perfume and what it represents, I wear it as 20+ guy and manage to get compliments. Same as some say about Fahrenhait, I fell in love with it back in school and it made me obsessed with fragrances.
Have you tried the newest formulation of H rouge? Tempted to buy it but my experience has been that newer ones are watered down. I have the same bottle thats in this video

I got more of a sense that they were all splashing on Aqua Velva or Old Spice unless their advertising agency handled the ad campaign for Brut or Hai Karate. In the 1970's, I was more of an English Leather guy before I discovered Aramis in college. I haven't worn Habit Rouge in a few years, but I'm going to try it again for a few days after seeing this video. I've been meaning to get the edp version for awhile.
Shave- a-thon Aqua Velva was drugstore aftershave, I don’t think they would dress up and put that on for an evening out. Even my dad thought both of those were kinda chintzy and he was from a podunk town in the rural south.
@@Action_Slacks Most guys in the 1960's weren't into fancy fragrances. This EDT is very good and is better "on skin".
Great scent description!!
Looking extra dapper in this one. Great take on this excellent fragrance. This is dated in the same way a gold Rolex is if you know what I mean.
Great video Pep. I feel the same way about Habit Rouge EDT and loved the Mad Men connection. Old school but still cool!
Unfortunately my girlfriend calls it “vomit Rouge” she hates it and I absolutely adore it. I wear it anyway. It’s for me.
Exactly!

I just bought a 200ml,the longevity is just awful.
At least I got it at a good price - 44 euros.
The magic is there, but disappears quickly.
I thought the performance wasnt great in the first wears, but somehow it improved with subsequent wears and as it gets cooler.
Had it for 6 months. Abstract, evolving scent but longevity is a problem.
Sad to read that, certainly no issue for me.
