  • The Dáil rose this afternoon in a sustained round of applause for Natasha O'Brien who was looking on from the public gallery as TDs debated the fallout from her assault by a serving soldier.
She'll be present at a rally outside Leinster House later this evening.

Anyone else find this really condescending to Natasha? What's so "brave" and "courageous" about a woman reporting a crime? What else was she supposed to do? Hide in a corner and cry? If you find this "brave", I suggest you contact your nearest women's refuge (if your county is fortunate enough to have even one) and you'll hear stories of how women and girls have endured male violence for thousands of years. This is nothing new. It's not brave or courageous. This is everyday life for women and girls all over the world in every country, every religion, every culture, every language.
