Hi, thanks for your video. Can you tell me how many pieces you ask every student to play? I’m thinking about to host my first students recital. I have many beginners, and I don’t know how many pieces they should play.
Just do simple math. I record approximately how long each student performance is. So if I give 25 students 2 short pieces, then maybe each student’s total performance (stage walk, applause) might take 3 minutes. 25 x 3 = 75 minutes. Once you have the total time, adjust accordingly.
What are your thoughts on a dress rehearsal if you have less students? I would only need to book an extra night a couple weeks prior to the actual recital so that my young students can feel more at ease with playing in a different location and on a different piano.
Dress rehearsals are great if you have the time to organize them. Ideally, you could complement them with weekly or biweekly “piano forums” where students could come in and play for each other
Where to book a piano recital? Anyplace except a church. To me a churches are there for another purpose. Not for giving a musical recital. Also shopping malls or department store settings are a bad choice for me. Too distracting. People milling around and a lot of noise made, especially from children. Not an appropriate setting for a recital. Dress code strictly enforced. Boys and teens. Suit. tie, (or maybe no tie but with jacket) and dress shoes. No shorts, no tank tops, no t-shirts of any kind. Girls; no shorts, no halter-tops, no t-shirts, no tight blouses, pants are allowed as long as they fit the contour of the body. Either flat leather shoes or heeled shoes preferably black. (heels no more than 1 inch high). Boys and teens, hair combed and those with beginning beards, shaved. No beards allowed. Mustaches are allowed but must be neatly trimmed. Women; hair can be long or stylized but must be neat and not distract from playing. This code will be strictly enforced. Summer time will be more relaxed. Comfortable shoes will be allowed as long as they don't show any feet. A dress shirt or short sleeve shirt for men are allowed but still no shirts resembling underwear. Women; more relaxed means pants and blouses of modest expression. Comfortable shoes will be allowed as long as they don't show any feet.
I developed a relationship with the local church and have booked my recitals with them for many years. Haven’t had much success with other venues and my clients love the convenient location.

Depends on how many students you have
@@RhapsodyPianoStudio I have around 25.
