It is unfortunate how out of all the people Rachel "loved", Chloe is the only one who cared enough to find her, and personally, I think Rachel has betrayed Chloe the most.
ica sztikus Spoiler! She didn’t ask her to go after Damon, she wanted to meet her mother. I think if Rachel had known that Damon kidnapped her mother, she wouldn’t have asked Chloe to find her mother, cause she cares to much about her. It was Chloes own choice to go to that crispy barn and face Merrik. But I agree that Rachel is a very selfish person, but I also don’t hate her cause of that. Idk why, but I think that it fits her role in the LiS very well and I feel like Chloe kinda wants to be manipulated cause she loves Rachel a lot.
Ingo Weinberger Rachel is manipulative because everything she believed in was a lie she was manipulated into believing everything her father told her until she learns the truth.
Threnody Rachel is the way she is because she wants to break out of that "perfect girl" role probably because high expectations put pressure on her. i don't think she's poorly written though. it just uosets me that she seems so innocent and amazing until you remember what you've learned in the original LiS
I am gonna give this whole "Rachel Amber" persona my two cents (if anyone reads it... thanks!) I think the whole point of Rachel Amber is for her to be a person who you see, buy you actually never get to know. She looks like "It" girl. Perfect parents, perfect grades, perfect house, beautiful, talented, intelligent. She is the perfect student, daughter, actress, model, psychologist, school secretary. She is a star which shines so bright she literally blinds everyone. She is fire, a passion, a dragon.... and to the pain of everyone involved she is, ultimately, a human being. The problem with Rachel Amber is that it seems like she is used to people thinking she is flawless. She is used to getting her way and never having to face the consequences of what she does, because who she appears to be makes up for it. I think Rachel is so used to people projecting on her that they never truly see her and all her dark behaviours are usually done in the shadow... she has to live pretending. Is not only the drugs, party and sex... but the fact that she can be genuinely evil and manipulative in her ways and yet, the real world never seems to reach her. Besides being a girl whose life has been so perfect she can barely tolerate a scratch in it before having an emotional breakdown (aka, her father having an affair). I am impressed at how she cheats, messes with different people, takes her rage issues out on others, gets involved in situation which can severely harm others (like drugging Victoria`s tea or getting Chloe skip school with her when Chloe has already enough problems with her records) she even starts a fucking forest fire... and yet people in Arcadia Bay, Chloe herself and plenty of the game players are STILL making excuses for this person. Rachel is a dark being, make no mistake, the problem is that nobody actually SEES her. When she banishes hardly anyone, besides Chloe, wants to find her... that's because she was a scapegoat in which the entire town projected it's light, she was never seen as a person. She was a ghost, a dream. When it became too much of a weight for Rachel to bear (all the expectations of people) she literally lit herself on fire. Rachel does not care for Chloe. Does not matter what it seems to be... the girls have known each other for literally two days. Rachel is an actress. Rachel uses Chloe as a person with whom she can explore her dark side, and also somebody she can manipulate to do things she wouldn't do on her own (like run away). Chloe clings on Rachel because she is extremely alone, and puts her on a pedestal. Chloe is extremely lonely and has abandonment issues. The one difference is that Chloe and Rachel are not comparable characters. Chloe has lost her father, her best friend, is having to adapt to her step father, has problems at school, people treat her like shit and her economic situation isn't the best. Chloe is literally trapped in emotional angst and she escapes into self destruction, art and drugs. Besides her mother, Chloe has lost what she valued the most. Rachel Amber does not come from such context and can not be compared. Rachel probably senses her father is having as affair... and all of a sudden Chloe would make a great friend... and also be an emotional punching bag? These two knew each other for a while and Rachel knows what spots to touch to get to Chloe. Chloe only idealizes Rachel, the same as the rest of Arcadia Bay, and Rachel prays on this. Chloe is a "what you see is what you get" type of girl, she is loyal and extremely reliable and Rachel uses this for her own means. Ultimately destiny has its ways and Rachel meets Mark Jefferson. Having strong motives to have daddy and mommy issues is not a surprise Rachel would be attracted to a father figure (him). He is probably the one person she cant read and who is actually a better predator than her... she goes into his house and he eats her. Mark Jefferson is the monster Rachel Amber was looking to encounter, and she did, because her own inner demons were not too different. She was a beautiful predator, who just got eaten by a smarter one. Chloe is warned by William in before the storm "the fire is beautiful, but if you aren't careful you will get burned too".
Moon Seeea I agree with you. She is a manipulator, but also a very damaged one. I do actually think she really trusts and cares about Chloe, but because of her ways, she is not really capable to give Chloe the same love as Chloe gives to her. She doesn't know what real love is since everyone adores her anyway. That's why she still ' betrays' Chloe in the end and chooses others to still fill that gap Frank, Nathan? And of course Jefferson, who did, as it states in the letter, give her that feeling. I think because like you said, she was finally not the dominant one in the relationship. And as it turns out, she was the one being used in the end. It's so sad, cause really Chloe was the one who genuinly cared without using her for who she is. Rachel was just too damaged to ever really appreciate it and Chloe too lonely to see through Rachel's damaging ways. That's why I will always be team Pricefield hahaha. No matter how much i adored Rachel and Chloe in BTS, Rachel was a fire, full of beauty. But also with destruction.
I swear I thought Rachel had time powers like Max. Everyone seemed to love her (like how Max goes back in time to tell people what they want to hear to get popular), she seemed to anticipate everything that was going to happen (two truths and a lie test) and had some weird weather powers.
I think Rachel was in a really bad place at that point, she was expected to be perfect by everyone and that fucked her up, her father’s lies and probably more things made her impulsive nature worse. That lead her to drug addiction and sex ( in lis 1 a lot of people said she was sexually promiscuous, nothing wrong with having sex ofc) but she probably used it as an escape. I think Rachel cared about Frank but mostly used him for drugs and money, i think she gave her the bracelet to not to hold on in these memories, when Frank crossed the line (probably slapped her on something) Rachel woke up and stopped being blinded. Rachel was the perfect girl but at the same time she was broken
@@aleale72 I think she used Frank t00, but I aIs0 think she used ChI0e and when she reaIized that ChI0e c0uIdnt give her what she wanted she had t0 use Frank instead, it just kiIIs me t0 kn0w RacheI was s0 br0ken she reaIIy didnt care ab0ut the deep c0nnecti0ns she created t0 0ther pe0pIe
Pretty sad realizing Rachel's true colors. A lying, manipulative, destructive, selfish person who used everyone she could to her advantage. Convincing and encouraging Chloe to do things as reckless as stealing a vehicle so that they could leave "together". (She asked a random trucker to take her to Cali without Chloe being there in LiS, by the way.) She even told Chloe, "You want this. I know it" to manipulate her into believing that she really wanted to leave Arcadia Bay and her mother. Then seduced her by kissing her and asking her again if she's ready to go just to confirm that she's going to get what she wants. She even said "Just making sure you don't change your mind about getting out of here with me." If that isn't enough proof of how disingenuous she is, I don't know what is. It's actually disgusting to think about...
Just finish playing before the storm thanks to the steam sale, and yeah as "Perfect" as Rachel looks and act, she is a trouble magnet a lot like her biological mother in her younger days.
Renasai yeah some comments are saying that the players are still in denial about who Rachel Amber really is; but this can be explained. The design of the game is to let us play Chloe, so that we will be manipulated, we will feel lonely after seeing all Chloe’s writings about her life, Max and other issues + Max not replying Chloe’s texts....
@@SwagKrak Obviously... Being the player, the choice was yours. I'm talking about plot wise. The kiss was used as a form of seductive manipulation. Rachel was denied, then kissed her and repeated the question again. Chloe had already said before that she wouldn't be comfortable with her idea.
@@HellBrat yet Chloe was the first one to tell her how much she hated Arcadia Bay. Rachel simply offered her a way out. It’s not that difficult to understand.
Finally! I thought i was only one who thought she mas manipulative. I first realised it when Chloe and Rachel stole bottle of a wine. Rachel didn't share it with her companion. I think she plays friendly with people just to earn their trust. Chloe spend time with her cause she was really really lonely and attractive in sexual meaning. In the end i think she didn't loved Chloe or Frank. She just needed a loyal companion and some drugs. And the worst thing is that in real life people like Rachel do exist. There's a shitload of them and there are so little people like Chloe. She wasn't perfect. I have a theory that she didn't loved truly Rachel too. Look, it's just a half of a year when Rachel is gone and she already kisses Max. Rachel and Chloe lived in a fucked up symbiosis.
@@bread-bz3zh i think she does genuinely care about chloe but doesn't know how to approach it and ends up doing the same things to her she does to everyone else. her manipulative behavior i think is also not on purpose, although i'm not excusing it
I think I have such a hard time accepting who Rachel really is, is because I’m very similar to Chloe. I never had a parent die or anything, but the sadness and the loneliness, I get. I know for a fact that if I ever met a Rachel Amber, I would fall in love with her too. I would put her on a pedestal as well and I know I would probably get hurt by it. But that’s just me.
Same, I’ve always felt apart from my family, they do love and care about me but for some reason the feelings just not there…. The constant loneliness makes me romantically obsess and idealize over people I barely even knew.
Zahn Griffin There's a theory that Rachel had wind powers (she didn't) because of the hurricane in the first game and the way the wind blew as she screamed when she set the tree on fire. People don't seem to get that the wind around Rachel was added as a powerful and dramatic effect to her emotional outburst at that moment.
@@HellBrat Rachel clearly has supernatural powers. First of all she has a strong connection with fire. When she gets mad during the dinner, the fireplace becomes more active. When she gets stabbed, you can find firemans in the hospital saying something like "Did you estinguished the fire?...No it just...gone". The forest fire disappeared exactly when Rachel was dying. During Chloe's dreams, Rachel is always associated to Fire. Chloe's father even warns her about it. Rachel plays as a mage that casts storms in "The Tempest" opera. In LiS1 Chloe says to Max that maybe the tornado is Rachel's revenge against Arcadia Bay. So, when she screams at the tree on fire, the wind gusts are not only visual effects. In every LiS there is someone with superpowers. Max controls time, Daniel controls gravity, Rachel controls natural events.
@@12345beta The only part of this theory that screams "clearly" to me is the sudden disappearance of the forest fire and Rachel's fitting role in The Tempest. The fireplace and the candles were a change of perspective. If they wanted to showcase her wind powers, certainly they wouldn't only use fire for showing it off. Mainly because the fire is used for another purpose, a metaphor. If they wanted to make it clear that she had wind powers, would they not show her moving someone's hair during the dinner argument? Not even her feather earring? They did with Daniel and his powers, no? You forget that Rachel's association with fire is grossly metaphorical throughout the game. The dreams of William are a warning to Chloe of Rachel's manipulative and controlling behaviors. "If you play with fire, you're going to get burned." He also mentioned to Chloe that a "greater beauty" will be to come, Max. He is warning Chloe that Rachel isn't good for her and he is correct as their relationship ends up getting her in a lot of trouble. You forget how symbolic this game actually is with it's spirit animals, the zodiac signs, the cryptic messages and the references. Rachel's last name is the alert you get on your phone when a child goes missing... There are deeper intentions for everything in this game. Max's one-line guess of the storm being Rachel's revenge is nothing in comparison to the evidence that the storm was created by Max's back and forth through timelines; leaving several tortured spirits of Max stuck between time, the two moons in the sky. _"This is my storm. I caused this... I caused all of this. I changed fate and destiny so much that... I actually did alter the course of everything. And all I really created was just death and destruction!"_ The entirety of the first game is based around the butterfly effect. Hence, why the first episode is called "Chrysalis" and another reason why Chloe's spirit animal is the butterfly. "This action will have consequences." With her spirit animal being the butterfly, it creates a strong effect when she is saved from her destiny. It's a part of the Chaos theory. The butterfly flaps it's wings and creates a storm. On top of all that, the developers themselves said it would be "odd" having more than one powered person in Arcadia Bay. The first game never had mention of Rachel's fire accident, or that she was associated with fire at all. Not even Samuel would call her a "dragon made of diamonds" until the second game... She's only been theorized to be the cause of the storm, which has another explanation already. You can argue that this is because BtS is a prequel, but you can also argue that it's because the second game was tainted in huge amounts of fanservice.
Ok, my opinion. Rachel cared for Chloe, she always did, in the event of before the storm Rachel fell in love with Chloe, and Chloe fell in love with her, they where closer then close, but as we know, Rachel is (probably) the type of person to do whatever she thinks is necessary to get what she wants, so as time went on and the idea of them leaving for LA becoming just a dream, Rachel lost her love for Chloe, but Chloe didn't, Rachel still cares for Chloe, she loves her, but not in a romantic way, Rachel was trying to find a way to make her dreams come true, even if Chloe wasn't in on it, Rachel went to Frank, knowing he had money, then developed feelings for him, then came Jefferson, he was hot, young, had money, and a way to make her modelling actually get some attention, with this she also became close to Nathan, Jefferson saw Rachel as a model, nothing else, but Rachel loved him, sooner or later Jefferson decided to stop using Rachel as a model, so he killed her, and had Nathan take the blame.
Nathan killed her when he tried to replicate Jefferson's work and overdosed Rachel. this video's theory works over several photo transitions which only max can consciously think through.
When you actually think about it, Before The Storm was so pointless. Playing the game had us thinking we would get answers (barely gave us a genuine backstory too) but it just raised even more questions lol.
For me Before the Storm is really good, because now I know who Rachel really is. I don’t have to know every answer, I’m just glad I know her personality, how she looks, who she really is and that’s for me the point. And of course we know Chloe better, we can understant her better now.
k. jaluvkova exaclty, I loved her in LiS1, but she seemed like a dick half of the time. i think the reason i loved her in LiS1 was because I chose to play BtS first :)
i think before the storm isnt pointless, when we play it u can find out more about chloe and rachel relationship, chloe past and even what was rachel like. rachel is really important in game and she means a lot to plot
For me I agree , I just wish MAX didn't tell Frank Nathan killed her , I Wish max understood what we understood that Nathan did not kill rachel , and killing Chloe was a big accident because of Chloe pushing him and Nathan's meds causing him to twitch
So true Nathan on meds he wasn't aware about what he does. I don't hate Nathan he is a good kid but yeah if his father cares more about him Nathan won't be like this.
(Depending on the choices you make) I think Nathan the one who killed rachel because in the scene where max was wearing rachel's clothes in the diner. You could see how happy he was to see max cuz he thought she was rachel. I also think that he drinks a lot of meds bc he feels guilty and wants to forget what he did esp to rachel
So basically Rachel is a deceptive, deceitful human being with very practical ambitions. Something was coming for her since the beginning of the story. She deserved some kinda punishment but she burned herself in the end. While playing the game I did not really cared for her and when I came to the part when she was found. I thought that she died was pretty obvious. The way Chloe glorified her in every aspect could only mean she was madly infatuated with her from the start.
After just playing Before the Storm #2, you can see why so many were enamored with Rachel Amber. The voice acting and scenarios were very good.. Her personality is magnetic. Deck Nine have done well so far.
Her voice lines were ridiculously good. They picked the perfect actor. They made rachel's character so charming and sought after it was insane. I remember my first time playing, when she brought chloe into the drama room, did that spin w her costume and winked at chloe, i felt like she was winking at me😭 bts team did a great job making you fall in love with her as the player
I love Rachel but my only problem is that she seduced mostly Frank & apparently Nathan. Frank loved her but she was only with him for the drugs. I don’t get why Rachel didn’t tell Chloe that if she knew she would be really upset & she clearly was in ep. 4. She pretty much cheated on Chloe and that’s unfair.
rachel amber Lmao, butthurt, aren't we? Thanks for showing us the true nature of Rachel's fans: angry and nasty people. I can tell you have a great connection with her.
Maddy Leigh true The Ending of Episode 3 was so fucked up ( the scene After the choices) I dont know what do know i cant stop thinking about all the bad stuff that will happen to Rachel:(
Heartless no you are not the only one But i dont think that rachel is a Bad person, there was such a good chemistry between Rachel and Chloe,I dont think that Rachel could Act all of this.
I never thought Jefferson actually had killed Rachel despite finishing the game a couple of times. You have given me a new perspective and desire to play the game one more time. So thank you for this awesome video
Tim Schenk same here. I finished it today and now endless thoughts of Max, Chloe and Rachel are tearing my brain apart. This video however gave me some hope and a good perspective to see that chronologically seen the best ending (from LiS) is to sacrifice Arcadia Bay, so that Chloe can live her well deserved life with her real love Max. In fact, the grafitties on the walls stating that Rachel was a wh**, may have been true regarding all the hints and people’s reports from the first game... The real protagonist from both of the Life is Strange games was actually Chloe, not Max. The absolute genius difference between LiS and BtS was, that you could change the protagonist‘s destiny as a second person (LiS), but being the protagonist herself, the destiny was already written and you couldt not change your future... what a fucking mindblow.
the other interesting thing is when chloe and max came back to junkyard in night, if you go rachel's and chloe's cabin you can see on the wall says " Rachel was here" this was the most interesting and confusing part. Who wrote that? I don't know but I really want to learn
Peeta M i think it was Nathan. I feel like he didn't want to be involved in anything Jefferson did (and maybe his dad as well) anymore. Like the voice mail shows how he wanted to warn Max. It was a warning.
But now these aren't impoertent cause in Life Is Strange Before The Storm epsisode 3 they full explaned what happened to Rachel. So Jady your theory is more make sense, it can be probebley Nathan or maybe Mr Jefforson
It was Nathan who accidentally killed both Rachel and Chloe. Originally the gameplay included a letter for Episode 5. In this unused letter, Nathan admitted to Jefferson (who has been angry and avoiding him for a few months), "Yes, I know I fucked up with R." If this letter had been included in the game, this would have been strong evidence towards disproving the fan theory of Nathan not being the cause of Rachel's death. When Jefferson says that Nathan killed Chloe, it simply let´s us know what his cover story would be: blame everything on Nathan. Afterwards he has no problem to talk with Max about how he has killed Chloe ("That´s what happens when you play with guns... or try to fuck with me"), Nathan and possibly Victoria during the last 24 hours. Storywise, there was literally no point for the writers to make Jefferson lie about Nathan, and not give us any way to discover the truth. Because the entire point of the long conversation between Max and Jefferson in the Dark Room is there to simply fill the last gaps of the mystery of Rachel Amber. After that Rachel's subplot is closed and we won't have any chance to do further investigation. It makes no sense that the devs made Jefferson casually talk with Max about how he has murdered several of his students (Nathan, Chloe, Victoria), and admit he was behind Kate´s kidnapping, but blame Nathan only for the death of Rachel, if it's not true. Rachel being killed by Nathan makes because she is the only victim who died in the dark room, since she is the first person to be reported missing after a long time in Arcadia Bay. When Max and Chloe investigate the Dark Room, Max immediately says that the photo where Rachel is awake and furious is framed differently than the other photos in the red folders. That photo was taken by Nathan. Jefferson helped to bury her body, and he most likely took the photo of Nathan and Rachel (who at the time was already dead) posing in the junkyard before she was buried.
I know Chloe was in love with Rachel. I think Rachel truly did care about Chloe. I also think Rachel was very self-absorbent. That selfishness blurred the lines for Rachel which in turn lead her towards manipulating Chloe to get what she truly wants. Whether Rachel’s manipulation was intentional or not idk
The devs confirmed the letter was from Jefferson. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT imo this does not make much sense, let me explain in short: - Jefferson has not been through "serious shit" - Jefferson is the most prominent teacher AND the ONLY art class teacher at Blackwell, so he already is "known" by students involved in art. - Jefferson might be wise, but he's also a teacher at Blackwell. There is a scene in EP 3 where victoria tries to seduce Jefferson for winning the everyday hero contest, and then tries to blackmail him as he blocks off her approaches. - And consider this: Principal Wells suspends Jefferson immediately after Max accused him of making Kate cry, and removed him from "representing Blackwell". This means: Wells really puts the school's reputation above anything else. If someone would accuse Jefferson of fucking his students, Wells would immediately suspend him to keep Blackwells reputation intact. So Jefferson would be incredibly stupid to hook up with Rachel. - Since he knows Rachel wants to become famous, so she has a motive, just like Victoria. He had probably dozens of young female models throughout the years, and I'm sure he is only interested in stuff that helps himself. Not others. - Chloe refers to Jefferson being "pretty hot for a teacher" and she jokingly says that she'll hit on him at the party. While this obviously has some sarcastic undertone, I still think she finds him hot. No way he would gross her out if Rachel would hook up with him. - Jefferson seems to be interested in Kate. She is his assistant, and he made Dark Room photos because of her innocent aura that he wants to break. Which he would probably best do by engaging her (possibly) in a sexual way. Which Nathan did by drugging her and making that Kate's gone wild video, since Jefferson cannot risk to seduce her himself (reason : Wells) - Jefferson said to Max about Chloe "Oh jea, Chloe... I already hated those punk girls back then in Seattle, they gross me out." Rachel, just like Chloe, also is a punk girl. Not as hardcore as Chloe, but still they have similarities. Joyce refers to both of them as "Hellraisers" afterall, and we know that Rachel was at Firewalk concert and listened to Chloes music aswell. - Jefferson also said that while Rachel had the talent to be a "human cameleon, so many facets. She was special..." he also said that SHE was in love WITH HIM. Not that they were in love with EACH OTHER. And he only mentioned the model shootings that they did, nothing about Dark Room stuff. And I believe that is because Rachel is not innocent, like Kate or Max. So she is not fitting as a victim that he can "break", like Kate. Rachel can pretend and act too well for that. I think the letter is, or should be, about Nathan: - Nathan seems to be a Vortex Club jock, and he certainly would despise Chloe for his arrogant attitude towards other people - he is actually sensitive. He's into acting (playing Caliban in the Tempest @ Before the Storm) and photography (with dark themes, but still having a great eye -> Max says that in Nathans room), and Samantha states that Chloe and Nathan are much alike in many aspects - he has serious mental issues that are ignored by his family - he has a shit load of money - he could also be referred to as being sort of wise. He seems to know shit and tries to hide that from the others. Also in unused sound files he seems to know about "the storm" that's coming to destroy arcadia. Much like max. - Nathan owns the Dark Room. Now hear me out: Only we, the players, max, chloe, Nathan and Jefferson know what kind of gross stuff is going on in the Dark Room. If you hide the syringes, the folders, duct tape etc. you get this: a comfy couch, high quality audio system, computer, very expensive professional photography equipment and you can be "alone" there. Very much like the Junk Yard with Chloe's hideout. Both places are hidden/lonely so noone bothers them, and they are sort of a "retreat point" from public. Rachel initially calls the Junk Yard "so? It's a pile of trash" when Chloe says "hell yea, awesome pile of trash, let's explore it". The Dark Room on the other hand is her "out of jail" card, allowing her to become a professional model and become famous to get out of Arcadia. The Dark Room itself is pretty badass if you would like to be a model. Since Nathan is good at taking photos I can now totally imagine Rachel and Nathan hanging out there together. Like nathan "Hey Rachel, want to make some REAL modeling photos? My father bought an old barn we established this AWESOME photo studio there. We can hang out and make some cool shots. Also if you want to we can medicate some without someone noticing us. You in?!" And now comes the most interesting part: Rachels hangs out with Nathan much, and Nathan had a crush on her. Maybe he made a move on her, and they were a bit like deeply connected best friends, like Chloe and her. (remember that Chloe and Rachel also have romantic feelings for each other). Or they made out and Nathan went on full rage mode, scaring Rachel aways. Then, Nathan becomes more obsessed with her, like Warren or Eliot with Max/Chloe. Rachel got out of his reach, and eventually came in contact with Jefferson, maybe even through Nathans help. Jefferson made model photos with her in the Dark Room, and at some point she got to know about the Red Folders. Which completely scared her, leading her to return back to Nathan (because he's a "good guy", owns the Dark Room and has power. Prescott rule over Police and Blackwell afterall) to get help, thinking that Nathan does not know about what Jefferson actually does in the Dark Room, since she would not suspect Nathan of being an accomplice. Nathan then uses the chance, drugs her (like he did with chloe) and dragged her to the dark room. Took the pics that we can see in the "Rachel" folder, and while doing that he gave her the overdose that killed her. Then Jefferson turns up, and they take dead Rachel to the Junkyard. Over there Jefferson takes the 3rd picture of Rachel and Nathan lying on the ground. Jefferson follows the rule "Always take the shot if you have the chance" afterall. Then they bury her. Nathan gets a complete trauma of killing his crush, and starts drawing the weird pictures of "Rachel in the Dark Room" and gets more and more unstable, encouraging Jefferson to remove/kill him as his accomplice.
Frankly speaking I'm pretty sure Rachel neither loved nor cared about all those people she spent time with. Including Chloe of course. She just wanted Chloe near to get money for "their" journey and to attract all the negative attention while Rachel os a perfect princess who everyone wants to hang out with.
@@dreamychocolateclusters8709 i don't see any proof of feelings or emotional attachment between Rachel and Chloe. All there is is C looking for someone to stick to like a gum and describing this as "love". I don't see any reason for R to bring C along while spying after her father - pretty sure she needed C there to blackmail James that "people know about your dirty actions" and than ask for money for her quietness. Rachel obviously expected to see James deal with drugs or do smth shady - nit "cheat". This she needed a witness to use as a pawn in future discussion with her father. I'm pretty sure that Rachel is Miss Arcadia in the beginning of Before the Storm - people send her their secrets and opinions (that's how she always k ows everything) and she influences people through thos platform without them thinking it's her. Chloe finds out about the concert from Miss Arcadia and meets Rachel there, then Chloe "suddenly" opens the door in front of her (like she waited for her), "suddenly" drags her to spy after James, makes her enter the theatrical group and so on - all the actions are strange and artificial. And when everything ends we see a ringing phone in the dark room - sooo, the signal was easily traceable and the district attorney just didn't trace his only daughter's phone when she disappeared seems VERY farfetched - to leave it there to confuse the traces and let Rachel disappear is also
@@dreamychocolateclusters8709 you see - Rachel goes out if all situations a winner - while Chloe gets all the backlash - she gets suspended, she gets punished, potentially beaten by thugs etc Rachel is MASTER manipulator - she understood that Chloe is this mother's daughter and home girl who wants to seem cool - to run away for a concert, to talk about running away from home (but never actually doing it), to wear punky clothes and dye hair blue to show how "rebellious" she is. Notice that it is Chloe who spirals down and is considered a bad influence while Rachel is a perfect looking princess, a model and aperfect student. Chloe is being used and imagines that some "love" to add it into equation and try to explain herself Rachel's behaviour.
I had a friend in high school who reminds me a lot of Rachel. Very easy going with everyone around her. Could be friends with the popular kids, burnout kids, nerdy kids, literally anyone and everyone. She was a chameleon and I think it was hard to get to know her. I thought I knew her better than other people. Other people thought they knew her. Really, we all knew different sides of her. And she seemed to always be running away from something and escaping with alcohol and getting in trouble. But she had good grades and was well liked, so she'd never really actually get in trouble for doing anything. I'm very similar to Chloe in that if someone gives me attention, I'm immediatly like, okay guess we're falling in love with this person. So, I definetly understand all these different characters being like "I knew her and loved her" while other characters saying "but you were the problem and I knew her best." I think Rachel fell in love with Jefferson because he was so charming (as predators and sociopaths tend to be) and was putting on a performance too. She probably knew that he could see right through her and finally was like, oh I don't have to perform for this guy. Which would've been cool if Jefferson wasn't her freaking teacher and if he wasn't a psychopathic murderer.
quarantine made me replay lis and bts. Here’s my thoughts: I fell in love in love with Rachel’s character in bts. William warned me about Rachel. He said something about fire blinding you and it’s jealous. The thing is, I fell in love with Rachel’s character and forgot about every single thing that happened in lis. She blinded me in a way. And looking at it again, she manipulated Chloe the whole time during bts. Rachel Amber was a terrible person who was selfish, lied, and hurt others just so she could get her way. She felt no sympathy after she burned a whole entire forest. I feel like bts is a game where it shows why Rachel was beloved by everyone. i believe that William was warning chloe the whole game. I definitely believe that she knew about the dark room. Once she found about Jefferson’s projects, he drugged her. In episode 4 or 5 when you look at Rachel’s binder max says, “she looks pissed”. The pictures in the binder were hard to look at. But, I do feel like she deeply cared about Chloe. Yes, she had affairs but Chloe meant a lot to her. I also have a feeling that Rachel used frank for drugs and money. she may have slept with Nathan to get money. I feel like she fell in love with Jefferson cause he was “mature” and could get good pictures because she wanted to be a model. At the end, I truly believe she wanted to run away with Chloe. All of her affairs could explain that.
One thing i can agree, is theory it was actually Jefferson who killed Rachel. It gives sense in bigger picture. Nathan felt for Rachel and maybe, just maybe, began to doubt, considering help Rachel escape. Because dark room is under 24/7 surveilance(as Jefferson say), he learns about it. Scared entire thing could get out of hand, he makes plan. He dose Nathan, then murder Rachel by overdosing. Pulling them both to junkyard, makes obviously staged photo of Nathan and poor Rachel to get proof, then burry her and wait for Nathan come back to senses. When he does, he tell him his version of what hapenned, show him photo of him with dead Rachel claiming he went out of his mind and murdered her. Nathan doesnt know what to believe, but he gets persuaded. Who else he should trust? Reason to believe this theory? Nathan is on the picture! And with eyes closed. Photo is taken from average human height, as someone third would take it. Sure he could use tripod, but thats very unlikely to plan ahead in this circumstances(why make photo with girl you just murdered, right?). Because Jefferson is piece of shit, you cant really trust anything he say. He enjoy lying, building his "untouchable" aura around him. He doesnt need to lie to Max, because he is planning to kill her anyway, but he still does blame Nathan for killing Chloe. For him its a game where he is the king, its also to show Max how superrior he is compared to her. See? I got it covered, nobody can get me. He enjoys Max's reactions to his lies, he find it amussing by his twisted mind. Confrontation between Max and Jefferson(amazing voiceacting btw) is battle of wits, because Max is Jefferson's biggest failure. Why? Back to Everyday Hero contests. Max was only one who didnt enter, no matter how much Jefferson tried. He failed to twist her around him as everyone else. Thats why he hates her so much. And i could keep going.... Point is, officialy its still Nathan who killed her, but there are reasons to believe it doesnt have to be true. As always, it'll remain one of mysteries surrounding this great game. PS: He wouldnt get away with this anyway, because he did one big mistake that would lead to him getting arrested, but thats another story.
I think Rachel got hooked on drugs, that's why she started banging frank was for more drugs. A drug addiction can make you a pretty bad person and Rachel has the complex that her mother chose drugs for so many years that drugs are better than love. Then she got involved with nathen because drugs and he kidnapped her and OD'ed her. Rachel had a drug addiction considering her father and stepmother were lying to her all her life and her birth mother didn't even bother to support rachel. I believe Rachel and Chloe got in a fight and Rachel felt alone so she started drugs.
wow now that i think about it, Rachel Amber was pretty selfish. i mean, she lied and kept secrets from the people she "loved" and i guess her selfishness was what got her killed. But then again i think she still cared about the people she loved which is why maybe she lied or/and kept secrets from them. ex being Chloe. idk thats just what i think.
in episode 3 of lis before the storm, we know why rachel lied to her family. she found out about her dad plotting to hire a hitman called damon to kill her real mother sera. she likely started doing drugs with frank after this revelation and then got killed by nathan.
i agree with you on rachel. i do believe the letter was about jefferson and i think that she posed for the pictures at first at least. i think jefferson used the fact that she was in love with him just like he used neithan's instable personality. after before the storm's release its pretty clear that rachel had a very stormy personality. meaning that she was cold and the next moment warm, like her whole character was full of contradictions and that she wanted the things to go her way always. (look how much she pressured chloe to leave arcadia bay with her) nonetheless i think that her charactere is awesome for that exact reason. she is not pure white she has her bad sides but the way life is strange introduced her made the gamers/viewers to really get intrigued by her and like her(especially in before the storm).
5:35 #1337 is also found on the train at the beginning of Before the Storm. Furthermore, I think Mr. Jefferson was the person that "changed" Rachel's life. Great video!
I'd love you retackle this subject now that before the storm is over, even though what Elliot said might be right, that she's a manipluative person, I still think she cared a lot for Chloe and her feelings for her were genuine.
Yeah, I think Rachel was pretty fucked up by the fact that everyone expected her to be perfect and she probably always wanted to fulfill that expectations, her father’s lies… she had a lot of shit going on inside of her and that probably lead her to her drug addiction and sex. (in lis 1 people said she was sexuality promiscuous, nothing wrong with having sex ofc but she probably used it as and escape). Chloe was the only one who wanted her and loved her for who she was and that probably warmed Rachel a lot, I think the same as you, her feelings for her were genuine and cared about her, even Frank said that her relationship with Chloe made him jealous, he said “Rachel cared about a lot of people, especially Chloe.” Rachel was the perfect girl but at the same time a broken one.
Rachel is mainly inspired by Laura Palmer character from TV series Twin Peaks. Both her personality and her fate is similar to Laura. In both LIS and Before the Storm there are tons of references to Twin Peaks. Also there are lots of similarities between Rachel and Prospera the main antagonist of Tempest. Keep in mind that game's episodes' names are (Awake-Brave New World-Hell is Empty) all Act names taken from the Shakespeare's stageplay.
It's debatable of course but Prospero's not an antagonist ib "The Tempest" , I'd argue he's the protagonist as many of the play's side-plots are related to his role as the former Duke , a wizard and someone who's claimed rulership over the island. His relationships with Miranda and Caliban are central to the play. It's no accident that Rachel was cast in the leading role and I think the game's interpretation of the Prospera/Ariel relationship is a stroke of genius. She does demonstrate Prospero-like traits such as being charismatic ,academically-inclined ,decisive and quick to anger.
Why is that nobody ever talks about the fact that, in the photo in wich Rachel is shown dead on the junkyard, there's what appears to be nathan's body under her, also dead? Does that means that they were both killed at the same time, near the end of the game? Rachel was still alive during the first episodes?
It seems the world revolves around Rachel, just look at her and Chloe's friendship. Everything after they supposedly became bff's every or most rhings in her life it seemed to help Rachel ir benefit their friendship Rachel and her seemingly have. Like Rachel uses Chloe to do her dirty work and find out secrets about her life for her. Its It's annoying. Rachel is always relaxing while her servant does everything for her. Sure Chloe owes her one for saving her life but Rachel is abusing that power and is extremely manipulative. Lets face it Chloe, she's an actor. She doesn't care about Chloe. Put it this way, if Chloe where in Rachel's shoes, she would probably actually do more than just ask Chloe for "favours" and chat or do fun activities with Chloe and try to be a frien, but to Rachel, Chloe is an object or puppet, I see why Victoria hates her. She's a manipulative brat who honestly didn't know better. I blame her dad and mom for making her life so perfect and never gave her punishment for her horrible actions. SHE BURNED A FOREST DOWN AND IS GOING TO PARTY'S. She needs to learn not to have older men boy toys. srry 4 the long comment but somebody had to say it have a nice day and pay more attention to the things in there friendship and you'll see what i mean with all this.
First of all, Rachel never used Chloe to do her dirty work. It's only in Ep3 that she asks Chloe for help because she had no idea where to start. And Rachel did chat with Chloe many times. Remember their heartfelt "therapy" session in Ep2 where she tries to help Chloe? Or even the Two truths and a lie in the train in Ep1. You're also forgetting that she's a 16 year old girl who is broken just like Chloe. It doesn't justify her actions, but she's not some master manipulator like you think she is.
@@splash._ "Rachel never used Chloe to do her dirty work." Bull. Either you're young and can't see blatant manipulation when it's in your face, or you're biased and refusing to see what's what. Rachel wasn't clueless, she knew _exactly_ what she was doing. She had no idea where to start? You'd think an apparent perfect scholar such as Rachel, who's spent a lifetime of "studying the human condition" would be able to utilize enough common sense to know that the first thing to do to get info on her mother would be to investigate her own father, as secretive as she already knows he is. But of course, agree to send off your supposed "friend" that's forbidden from your home to break into your DA father's office to snoop around his documents when you could just wait until you're recovered enough to do it yourself... because she's already a delinquent anyway, right? She played Chloe since the first episode of the game. From asking Chloe to fetch her belt, to stringing Chloe along with her solely for "company", to pulling her off the train when she refused to jump off, to becoming snappy and asking Chloe to find her a quarter when her's got eaten, to peer pressuring her into stealing wine with her, to lashing out at her at the junkyard even if Chloe left her alone, to leaving her in the junkyard and taking back her friendship when she got what she wanted out of her, to not taking no for an answer when Chloe didn't want to fill in the part for her play, to completely disregarding Chloe's feelings of discomfort with leaving her mother to run off with her, to insisting that she knows what Chloe wants over what Chloe herself says she wants/doesn't want, to offering Chloe something miniscule before egging her on once again to leave her mom so that she could get her dream in California. She _literally_ did the same exact thing with Frank, giving him her bracelet to prove she was serious about their relationship enough to get free drugs out of him, because we all know she was in love with Jefferson. It doesn't matter how little and trivial the things she asked for were to Chloe because that's how a manipulator works. They will repeatedly feed their person with tasks until they feel that they're attached enough to them to carry out bigger tasks. It's been foreshadowed throughout the literal entire game that she could be extremely manipulative and inconsiderate. It was the basis of her character.
Quick note: *Rachel Amber is Laura Palmer* (from Twin Peaks) in Life is Strange. *Rachel Amber is Laura Palmer* (from Fire Walk with Me: Twin Peaks Movie) in Life is Strange: Before the Storm.
I agree with everything you've said. Wow, so much details I didn't even noticed all of those especially the torn piece of Nathan's note with the codes behind Rachel's letter for Chloe. Very well said. I know that Rachel's character is really likeable and I actually fell in love with her too in LIS:BtS but when Eliot confronted Chloe about her and pointed out some things, and then all of those things we already knew about her in Season 1, I started to see her as someone who used Chloe for her benefit all along. I mean, sure the guy was creepy for stalking but he had a point. For example, when Chloe visited Rachel in the hospital, she asked her to go back to look for her mom Sera. I mean, why would you still ask Chloe to do that alone after you were assaulted by Damon. You barely made it out alive. I wish there was another season in between Behind the Storm and LIS 1 to explain everything but from what I heard, it's only Captain Spirit and LIS: Dust coming plus LIS 2 with completely different characters...
My personal opinion after playing the 4 Full Episodes of BtS + 5 Full Episodes of LiS Rachel was a very manipulative girl, she wanted to leave Arkadia Bay so bad that she would lie and do whatever it took to get what she wanted (she even asked that truck driver to get her out of there as we saw in LiS). She started doing drugs in those 3 years gap between BtS and LiS. She was willing to hang out with Vertex Club assholes just to get close to drugs and because she was a party girl she never cared. We know that she met Frank in "Hell is Empty - BtS" so the best way for her to get free weed was to hang out with the dealer himself. The things here is that we know that Nathan says to Max in LiS that she thought that he was a loser, she never cared about him at all and she acted as if she did but all she wanted was his drugs. As seen in BtS, we knew that she also had a great passion for acting and modeling (I guess that´s why she wanted to escape this small town to greater cities where she could succeed). At this point she also met Jefferson and she saw in this guy a better match than Frank. He was a clever guy, he was into art, photography, etc...(as she said in her letter for chloe... "someone special"). I think she saw Jefferson as the guy that could give her everything she ever wanted. He could take her out of Arkadia Bay and make her a big model or actress in a big city. But once again, I don't think she ever cared about him neither, like Frank, she made him think that she had feelings for him (Jefferson says to Max in LiS that "she loved him") but at the end she was just using him to get her own goals and be out of AB. On the other hand, the only person we see in BtS that Rachel opens herself to, the only person that she could be herself with, was Chloe. If the romantic path is chosen between them in BtS we can see that she really cared for Chloe, she really loved her and the entire time she wanted to escape AB with her. That was her initial plan all the time but reality was that Chloe hadn't too much to offer. She even tried to hide these relationships from Chloe so she wouldn't get hurt. As said in the vid, Rachel came to a moment where her greed and selfishness overcame everything else, so it was all about Rachel against the world. Rachel is a complex character, no doubt on that, but even knowing what she became after the events of BtS and after playing that precuel, I can't but be in love with her. Chloe describes her in one of her diary entries..."She is probably the most surprising person I've ever met". I think Chloe and Rachel's relationship was pretty legit even when Rachel's desires for greatness were stronger at some point, than her love for Chloe. PD: One of the most touching stories that anybody could relate to and well made games I´ve ever played...I love LiS + BtS, I love Rachel, I love Chloe, I love Max, I love DONTNOD, I love Deck Nine Games, I freaking love every actor and character in this freaking awesome game xD....damn! Thanks for creating this piece of art!
I'm not to sure at this point. I''ve covered a lot about Rachel in my analysis video and if I was ever to do another video like this it might be focusing on another character. But if there's enough I can extract from BTS as a whole I might make another one.
WilliamHella You certainly did a good job analyzing Rachel but the reason I asked for a part 2 is because I was hoping we would get more information on her relationships with Frank and Mr. Jefferson and maybe events that led up to her death in episode3 (I knew all this had a low chance of happening since BTS takes place 3 years before LIS but we can always hope) I basically just wanted proof that would make Rachel seem less manipulative towards her friendship with Chloe and information that would affirm the authenticity of their relationship to not make it seem like Rachel just uses everyone for personal gain, especially Chloe. But we didn’t really get anything except for exchanged looks between Frank and Rachel in the junk yard and that post credit scene :( Regardless this video was great and it would be cool if you made another analysis video for a different character.
Sam McChicken LIKE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A LIFE IS STRANGE 3 the story will continue with how before the storm ends but you play as Rachel idk it was just a idea
We learn more about Rachel as the story goes on in the game, we only see her in pictures when we go to the “dark room”, we also see her in “Before the storm”
I had a classmate like her, very pretty but she used that to befriend everyone even the unpopular kids that no one hanged with but as soon as she found out there’s no benefit in that friendship, she would leave them just like how Rachel wanted to leave Chloe for frank cuz frank had free drugs while Chloe didn’t have anything
While the writers confirmed it was Jefferson I like that theory. She could very likely have had feelings for Samuel and you so find some interesting books in the maintenance room like "Corvus Ignisque" ("Crow and Fire") which suggest that he was attached to her, although I don't think he would have crossed the line and dated her while she was a student or even at all if he is asexual which is possible.
Rachel demonstrates nearly every trait attributed to sociopaths... Manipulation to get what you want top among them. Sociopaths are known as "human chameleons" as well, and have the ability to seamlessly and completely ingratiate themselves with a wide variety of different types of people and groups, without even needing to make an effort. Those who meet sociopaths rarely find any flaws or faults with them; if anything, they're extremely jealous, and want nothing more than their praise and affection. Sound familiar? 😶
I’ve heard that from somewhere I’m sure. And it reminds me of a certain character from the PPG’s..... after reading someone’s accurate description of the leader of the Powerpuff girls.
Did you play Before the Storm? Cuz Rachel and Chloe pretty much know how fucked up they are, especially after Chloe saw Rachel’s meltdown. And Rachel also confessed that she was getting tired of having to wear a mask every single time even at home. Honestly she doesn’t sound like a sociopath or even psychopath to me. Just a troubled girl who was surrounded by lies and deceit until she eventually became one as well.
@@aiyhanakeith725 Now I'm super curious. I grew up with PPG so I've _got_ to read that. Do you have a link possibly? Or at least which character it was about?
(commenting before finishing video so if they cover this don't come at me) In the letter she wrote Chloe, it's most likely that she is referring to Chloe's dealer, Frank Bowers because she says "When I tell you, and think he's gross." when Chloe sees Frank as a disgusting person. Later on in the game, we also find out that Rachel had been hooking up with Frank, showing a higher chance of this mysterious person being him . When Max and Chloe break into Franks R.V we find out they were hooking up, but one thing I find interesting is that in the letter Rachel wrote to Frank, saying how he had done something wrong the night before, and how she wasn't going to hold back, I noticed that the letters had two things in common. 1.) They had both been crumpled up and put somewhere that wouldn't have been easy to find, 2.) They were both written in the same blue pen. Now, these might have some significance, and they might not. Either way, it was interesting to me. It also seems that when she was writing these, she seemed to be feeling 2 emotions at the same time, disgust, and confusion. Anyways that's all I've found.
Did Anyone Else Find It Weird That in before the storm rachel was already in that firewalk concert maybe cause of frank and perhaps must of been keeping tabs on Chloe to help her out with the thugs
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING! How did Chloe not say anything about that part? if someone told me that they had been watching me the whole night since i got there, id be CREEPED OUT!!
*WARNING: Spoilers for BEFORE THE STORM!* Supposedly episode 3 of Before the Storm comes out mid December in 2017. I've played Life is Strange and episodes 1 and 2 of Before the Storm. Depending on how you play Chloe can depend on "how close" you can get Rachel and Chloe. I SUSPECT we will learn the "exact" events leading up to Rachel going "poof" in episode 3 since in episode 2, Rachel and Chloe talk like they're going to leave that very night. I feel like the creators tried to make Rachel (personality wise) the very definition of a "free spirit". She very likely was polyamorous but with her being ambitious, she hung around and possibly "slept around" to end up using people to her advantage (I DOUBT she had malicious intention behind anything she did. Rather, she just knew what would help take her to where she wanted to be).
Veronica S after finishing episode 3 what are your thoughts now, I thought the ending was quite happy besides the following scene from the photo booth and tbh I don’t think we really know what happened and why she disappeared
That's why people blame bts, because a lot of things weren't answered. They didn't show us the relationships that had Rachel and also they didn't show us how the kidnapp was. Really disappointed.
@@groopu422 well there have been discussions about a Bts 2 but idk if the creators will go through with making it I would love to see everything in Rachels Pov
Before the storm had some really lovely scenes between Rachel and Chloe...but I can't help thinking about Chloe's dream-dad telling her to stay away from the fire. BTS is ultimately from Chloe's pov and so we only see the sweet moments and ignore all the red flags.
So Rachel never cared about anybody but Chloe cared enough trying so hard to find her. Rachel is a very strange mystery like she keeps saying that to Chloe in Life Is Strange : Before The Storm.
You want to know what the genius but also the Achilles heel that this series is? It's the fact that it gives us just enough backstory and information about Rachel in before the storm, but it's so vague when you finally have all the pieces - life is strange and before the storm-- that the story could go either way. Like was Rachel a genuine good person who did a little bit of shady shit behind her Partners backs? or was she a sociopathic master manipulator who never cared for anybody but herself and was just using others for her advantage? What she a person who willingly wanted to be in a lot of social groups and curricular activities, or was that her parents pushing her to be the best? For me I feel like all the evidence tells me that she has always been a sociopathic manipulator, but then again with a lot of gaps unfilled and still a lot of things we don't know about Rachel, I can't reach a fair conclusion other than what my gut tells me.
Great video, I'm amazed at how much information you've gathered about Rachel. The part at 11:58 is particularly impressive and plausible: Either: Rachel lets Jefferson take her photo (in the darkroom). She finds the folders in the closet (the statement that she was looking in the wrong places) and Jefferson gives her drugs, does his famous photo session and then kills her. But Nathan's involvement is missing. Or: Rachel lets Jefferson take her photo. He knows that she's pretty but he doesn't like her poses (he tells Max that the models always pose wrong), so he lets Nathan drug Rachel. But since Rachel is already used to drugs, she wakes up in the middle of the shoot (the photo where she's awake and hateful) and then gets a second, too large dose. But: There is the photo where Nathan poses with (the dead) Rachel in the junkyard. So he must know that she's dead. I can't imagine that he was manipulated by Jefferson into thinking she was still OK and that this was just another photo shoot. except: Nathan gives Rachel the wrong dose, she wakes up during the shoot. Jefferson is pissed and drugs Nathan, kills Rachel (because she now knows) takes the photo of Nathan and Rachel at the junkyard (why? as a means of pressure against him?) and Nathan doesn't remember anything about it (just that he messed up the dose) and thinks Rachel is still alive. But what does he think happened to her? And it would be more plausible that he chose too high a dose and therefore later took too low a dose with Chloe? But why would Rachel be awake and pissed off in that one photo? The fresh tire tracks at the barn and when Nathan is beaten up by Warren (Nathan is really upset), I think he just found out that Victoria is the next victim (perhaps without his knowledge and perhaps because she was bothering Jefferson with her advances) and since she is his only friend, he wants to confront Jefferson (why he is killed by Jefferson and used as a scapegoat). Who were the other victims? Were some from Arcadia Bay? Were they all always killed, only Kate managed to escape? Why? There were no missing persons reports in Arcadia Bay for years before Rachel. Could it be that the models were usually left alive because they had no memories afterwards because of the drugs and Rachel was an exception (accident or intentional)? The fact that Kate still remembers something is perhaps because she bought drugs from Frank herself and is therefore used to drugs and is not as innocent a girl as she seems?
LIS 1 will forever be the best LIS i love the story and mystery so much and rachels story is like so sad ig, i dont even know how to explain it its just the story and connection and how most of the characters are in on it is written well so well
I think that Rachel was originally involved with the kidnappings but felt guilty because of Chloe and that Jefferson was planning on using Chloe some point but, tried to back out because she didn't want to hurt her, and was killed to prevent people from finding out. I believe that Jefferson made her believe that they were in 'love' and said, "If you loved me, you'd do this for me." and she did it because she loved him, or thought she did. Rachel might have been dating Frank for the drugs for Jefferson to use / easy access to Chloe in the first place since Frank is Chloe's dealer, Chloe to keep her to control and manipulate her, and with Jefferson, he lied, manipulated, and used her to get easier access to students because she fits in with everyone and could gain people's trust very quickly due to her acting. It's just my crazy theory though XD
So here's my thought🤔: With LiS contained so much nature-science-related elements throughout the series, i think what im proposing might be able to explain stuff… i guess… From my point of view, in Bts, Rachel is symbolized as the forest, with fire, she see much more clearer of herself. As forests do burn themselves sometime, while Rachel literally is the one who started the fire and "get herself burned". And we, as Chloe, "the light-bringing raven", are the firefighters who decide what to do with the fire. Depending on the choices we choose, Chloe makes choices between "burning" & "extinguishing" in order to keep the fire from burning into absolute "emptiness". So I guess at some point between Bts & Season1. After what's happened in BtS, Chloe just grew too protective towards Rachel, which causes Rachel trying to hide things away from her, which resulted in a disastrous wild fire, burning everything into nothing.
One of my favorites, if not my favorite quote from this experience is David. "Be careful max. Don't go into the dark" or something like that. Super poignant.
i honestly have a feeling that rachel was like the chloe in LiS1 to max and chloe was extremely influenced by rachel. so when max came back chloe sort of used max just like how rachel used chloe to try to escape.
Watching life is strange gameplay, I always thought Frank was Rachel's dad. But I thought those pictures were taken by Jefferson and placed into Frank's rv
Rachel was definitely a confused person as Nathan said she did want Frank’s stash I’m guessing she only did that because of drugs I believe Rachel loved deeply Chloe
It probably is Jefferson, considering he dug up her body up again and in max’s maze nightmare, he says “Rachel not only gave good good headshots, he gave great head”
It is unfortunate how out of all the people Rachel "loved", Chloe is the only one who cared enough to find her, and personally, I think Rachel has betrayed Chloe the most.
Threnody Play before the storm you will understand why......
ica sztikus Spoiler!
That's what makes it soo sad for me I thought Rachel... Had a thing for Chloe ;(
I am gonna give this whole "Rachel Amber" persona my two cents (if anyone reads it... thanks!)
I think the whole point of Rachel Amber is for her to be a person who you see, buy you actually never get to know.
Moon Seeea yes u are totally right
Wow now I'm seeing Rachel in a different light
points👌👏👏
that was...beautiful
In the end, we still don't know who was Rachel Amber...
Even Chloe didn't... damn... Oh well, Chloe has Max, they are a much better fit.
Exactly...
Yes. I agree. 😦 who is sheee?

I hate before the storm. It's totally a fanservice game.
I wished Chloe might have believed what Eliot said: "Rachel is indeed dangerous" :D
Abby Villones Eliot was creepy but he was right from the beginning about Rachel.
She’s truly a force...

But the kiss was our choice lol.
@@SwagKrak
Obviously...
It’s not that difficult to understand.

well somebody's mad.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But you're still alive and here.. PLOT TWIST: It was all lies that Rachel died.
Random Slig The kiss was a goodbye kiss of DEATH m8
rachel did share it 🤨 she handed chloe the bottle and said "you deserve it"
It seems like it for the most part but at the dinner seen in bts it genuinely seemed like she wanted chloe there,

To summarize, a girl with dad problems, wind power and a very easy going personality
bankaispirits What wind powers
She wasn't intended to have wind powers or any kind of powers.
Zahn Griffin
There's a theory that Rachel had wind powers (she didn't) because of the hurricane in the first game and the way the wind blew as she screamed when she set the tree on fire.
@@12345beta
The only part of this theory that screams "clearly" to me is the sudden disappearance of the forest fire and Rachel's fitting role in The Tempest.
And all I really created was just death and destruction!"_
The entirety of the first game is based around the butterfly effect. Hence, why the first episode is called "Chrysalis" and another reason why Chloe's spirit animal is the butterfly.
"This action will have consequences."
With her spirit animal being the butterfly, it creates a strong effect when she is saved from her destiny.
Rachel cared for Chloe, she always did, in the event of before the storm Rachel fell in love with Chloe, and Chloe fell in love with her, they where closer then close, but as we know, Rachel is (probably) the type of person to do whatever she thinks is necessary to get what she wants, so as time went on and the idea of them leaving for LA becoming just a dream, Rachel lost her love for Chloe, but Chloe didn't, Rachel still cares for Chloe, she loves her, but not in a romantic way, Rachel was trying to find a way to make her dreams come true, even if Chloe wasn't in on it, Rachel went to Frank, knowing he had money, then developed feelings for him, then came Jefferson, he was hot, young, had money, and a way to make her modelling actually get some attention, with this she also became close to Nathan, Jefferson saw Rachel as a model, nothing else, but Rachel loved him, sooner or later Jefferson decided to stop using Rachel as a model, so he killed her, and had Nathan take the blame.

game devs said that chloe had crush on rachel but rachel didnt on chloe, she didnt want to hurt her feelings
That doesnt make sense with the events of before the storm.
Nathan killed her when he tried to replicate Jefferson's work and overdosed Rachel. this video's theory works over several photo transitions which only max can consciously think through.
Of course! She wanted to escape so bad she was blindly looking for ways to do so, hence all this hooking up with everybody. Brilliant.
I honestly think she was just a very troubled girl, who deeply wanted to get out of town.
When you actually think about it, Before The Storm was so pointless. Playing the game had us thinking we would get answers (barely gave us a genuine backstory too) but it just raised even more questions lol.
NICOLÉ MSFT You did get to see more of chloe though, chloe is my favorite character and i really enjoyed playing BtS
For me Before the Storm is really good, because now I know who Rachel really is. I don’t have to know every answer, I’m just glad I know her personality, how she looks, who she really is and that’s for me the point. And of course we know Chloe better, we can understant her better now.
k. jaluvkova exaclty, I loved her in LiS1, but she seemed like a dick half of the time. i think the reason i loved her in LiS1 was because I chose to play BtS first :)

i think before the storm isnt pointless, when we play it u can find out more about chloe and rachel relationship, chloe past and even what was rachel like. rachel is really important in game and she means a lot to plot
it’s kind of weird how even watching or playing before the storm and seeing rachel in the game, it feels like we still don’t know much about her
Rachel’s a unique person. I knew it completely when I saw her in before the storm.
9:47 Finally someone think it's maybe Jefferson could kill her, i knew it was him.
Nenoro Alzafen I
(Depending on the choices you make) I think Nathan the one who killed rachel because in the scene where max was wearing rachel's clothes in the diner. You could see how happy he was to see max cuz he thought she was rachel. I also think that he drinks a lot of meds bc he feels guilty and wants to forget what he did esp to rachel
Oh stop it we know it was Nathan Prescott
Coming back four years after this was uploaded. In True Colors, in the Steph DLC, it’s confirmed that Chloe and Rachel were together.
Yeah, Chloe was really into her, but Rachel wasn't.
4. She pretty much cheated on Chloe and that’s unfair.

true.
I never thought Jefferson actually had killed Rachel despite finishing the game a couple of times. You have given me a new perspective and desire to play the game one more time. So thank you for this awesome video
This video is so hard to see After playing Before the Storm
Tim Schenk ikr
the other interesting thing is when chloe and max came back to junkyard in night, if you go rachel's and chloe's cabin you can see on the wall says " Rachel was here" this was the most interesting and confusing part. Who wrote that? I don't know but I really want to learn
Peeta M i think it was Nathan. I feel like he didn't want to be involved in anything Jefferson did (and maybe his dad as well) anymore. Like the voice mail shows how he wanted to warn Max. It was a warning.
Peeta M Actually Rachel wrote that
Yeah it makes sense, maybe he wrote that for warning. I don't know but the writing was so wierd.
I didn't mean the Rachel wrote. I mean strangely wrote on the wall, it says on the wall " Rachel is here" the rigth one is this.
I love how he said Nathen Prescot was Rachel Ambers friend but he's the one that killed her
nathan was on drugs
jefferson did, he just blamed it on nathan, poor kid :(
Again this is just a theory, a game theory!!!
Great video! I like how you find evidence for everything you say. I would like to see more life is strange theory videos. ^-^
+Anastarsia Thank you!
The devs confirmed the letter was from Jefferson.
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT imo this does not make much sense, let me explain in short:
- Jefferson has not been through "serious shit"
- Jefferson is the most prominent teacher AND the ONLY art class teacher at Blackwell, so he already is "known" by students involved in art.
Which Nathan did by drugging her and making that Kate's gone wild video, since Jefferson cannot risk to seduce her himself (reason : Wells)
- Jefferson said to Max about Chloe "Oh jea, Chloe...
I think the letter is, or should be, about Nathan:
- Nathan seems to be a Vortex Club jock, and he certainly would despise Chloe for his arrogant attitude towards other people
- he is actually sensitive. He's into acting (playing Caliban in the Tempest @ Before the Storm) and photography (with dark themes, but still having a great eye -> Max says that in Nathans room), and Samantha states that Chloe and Nathan are much alike in many aspects
- he has serious mental issues that are ignored by his family
- he has a shit load of money
- he could also be referred to as being sort of wise.
You in?!"
And now comes the most interesting part:
Rachels hangs out with Nathan much, and Nathan had a crush on her.
Tatiana Sobchenko
How do you know that? What about how Rachel felt about the affair with James?
I agree so much with you. I never trusted Rachel.
"FRANKly speaking"
@@dreamychocolateclusters8709 i don't see any proof of feelings or emotional attachment between
Rachel and Chloe.
And when everything ends we see a ringing phone in the dark room - sooo, the signal was easily traceable and the district attorney just didn't trace his only daughter's phone when she disappeared seems VERY farfetched - to leave it there to confuse the traces and let Rachel disappear is also
@@dreamychocolateclusters8709 you see - Rachel goes out if all situations a winner - while Chloe gets all the backlash - she gets suspended, she gets punished, potentially beaten by thugs etc
Rachel is MASTER manipulator - she understood that Chloe is this mother's daughter and home girl who wants to seem cool - to run away for a concert, to talk about running away from home (but never actually doing it), to wear punky clothes and dye hair blue to show how "rebellious" she is.
Which would've been cool if Jefferson wasn't her freaking teacher and if he wasn't a psychopathic murderer.
if he wasnt a psycho murderer, there would be no life is strange 1 or any point in making it
Great theory and analysis!!
quarantine made me replay lis and bts.
That theory actually makes a lot of sense🤔
true
Maddy Leigh
How did Rachel's selfishness get her killed?
bad habit of selfishness i think. I dont think she acted that consciously.
i agree with you on rachel. i do believe the letter was about jefferson and i think that she posed for the pictures at first at least. i think jefferson used the fact that she was in love with him just like he used neithan's instable personality.
after before the storm's release its pretty clear that rachel had a very stormy personality. meaning that she was cold and the next moment warm, like her whole character was full of contradictions and that she wanted the things to go her way always. (look how much she pressured chloe to leave arcadia bay with her)
nonetheless i think that her charactere is awesome for that exact reason. she is not pure white she has her bad sides but the way life is strange introduced her made the gamers/viewers to really get intrigued by her and like her(especially in before the storm).
spontaneous, creative, nice.. like fire "the fire is beautiful, but if you aren't careful you will get burned too"
5:35 #1337 is also found on the train at the beginning of Before the Storm. Furthermore, I think Mr. Jefferson was the person that "changed" Rachel's life. Great video!
Exceptional analysis 10/10/10
Not enough like buttons
One of my best analysis I’ve seen, subscribing :)!
I wish they covered more in before the storm
that piece of paper behind the letter says leet (1337) just like the train at the beginning scene of season two
Melody Qin TRUE
Lol
Absolutely!! Great vídeo, i really really want ser more of this, excelente work!
13:20 A~nd lol his voice cracked🤣
Rachel is Laura Palmer and Prospero combined. Watch Twin Peaks and read Tempest..
snake plissken it’s weird that you say that, because she’s actually plays Prospero in episode of the lis before the storm
Chloe : "We've got time"
Rachel : "All the time in the world"
Jeffershit : "That's okay, we have all the time in the world, for now."
I never in a billion years think that Rachel would hurt Chloe I think that she was hiding the dark room from her to keep her safe
I remember watching your channel for the first time it was so cool you deserve more than what you have
Why is that nobody ever talks about the fact that, in the photo in wich Rachel is shown dead on the junkyard, there's what appears to be nathan's body under her, also dead? Does that means that they were both killed at the same time, near the end of the game? Rachel was still alive during the first episodes?
Raffaella Costa omg true!!!!
I actually didn’t want Nathan to die it’s sad..His body under Rach is sad and makes me wonder when she was actually killed me when he was killed😢🤔
Nathan was sick, i wouldn't be surprised if he posed with a dead body. Anyway u have a point.
May I ask when this can be seen? I have never noticed this!
Kia's Creations In the dark room episode when Chloe and Max visit the mill. Or you can look it up Rachel and Nathan's Picture
1337 is the number of the train before the storm she's talking about someone in the sequel
@@splash._
"Rachel never used Chloe to do her dirty work."
Bull.
This video has been the most informative of all the LiS videos I've seen. Good job.
Quick note:
*Rachel Amber is Laura Palmer* (from Twin Peaks) in Life is Strange.
My personal opinion after playing the 4 Full Episodes of BtS + 5 Full Episodes of LiS
Rachel was a very manipulative girl, she wanted to leave Arkadia Bay so bad that she would lie and do whatever it took to get what she wanted (she even asked that truck driver to get her out of there as we saw in LiS).
That was a NICE video!
That's a great video!!
Wow, nice video! I loved it, really made me think more about Rachel's death :)
Will you make a part 2 to this video now that Before the Storm is finished?
I'm not to sure at this point. I''ve covered a lot about Rachel in my analysis video and if I was ever to do another video like this it might be focusing on another character. But if there's enough I can extract from BTS as a whole I might make another one.
WilliamHella
You certainly did a good job analyzing Rachel but the reason I asked for a part 2 is because I was hoping we would get more information on her relationships with Frank and Mr.
And This video is soooo Nice :) do a theories For LIFE IS STRANGE BEFORE THE STORM when it come out
Hey thanks!
Great video! ⭐️
+MelodyAmberHolmes Thank you!
I kind of think she was talking about Samuel
Παναγιώτα Δζ 😂 what noooo
What?
While the writers confirmed it was Jefferson I like that theory. She could very likely have had feelings for Samuel and you so find some interesting books in the maintenance room like "Corvus Ignisque" ("Crow and Fire") which suggest that he was attached to her, although I don't think he would have crossed the line and dated her while she was a student or even at all if he is asexual which is possible.
Great vid man!!
Rebecca Taylor
Not to mention that Rachel has BPD too. Do you personally think that Rachel is _worse_ than her birth mother?
I’ve heard that from somewhere I’m sure. And it reminds me of a certain character from the PPG’s..... after reading someone’s accurate description of the leader of the Powerpuff girls.
Also, I don’t know a lot of people that can be connected to Rachel in these ways, it’s because I solely focus on that one character.
@@aiyhanakeith725
Now I'm super curious.
*WARNING: Spoilers for BEFORE THE STORM!*
Supposedly episode 3 of Before the Storm comes out mid December in 2017.
THIS IS AMAZING THANK YOU
Why this vide game story is better than the movies
Before the storm had some really lovely scenes between Rachel and Chloe...but I can't help thinking about Chloe's dream-dad telling her to stay away from the fire. BTS is ultimately from Chloe's pov and so we only see the sweet moments and ignore all the red flags.
So Rachel never cared about anybody but Chloe cared enough trying so hard to find her. Rachel is a very strange mystery like she keeps saying that to Chloe in Life Is Strange : Before The Storm.
She cared for Chloe
This is actually a very good theory
Great Theory I love it btw great video
She's a Calli girl and a theatre kid also liked to use the word hella
Great video, I'm amazed at how much information you've gathered about Rachel. The part at 11:58 is particularly impressive and plausible:
Either: Rachel lets Jefferson take her photo (in the darkroom).
You just earned a new sub 👌
Thanks!
And then Life is strange: Before the storm comes
Nice analyses
Wow, I really liked Rachel’s character. *Liked*
So here's my thought🤔:
With LiS contained so much nature-science-related elements throughout the series, i think what im proposing might be able to explain stuff… i guess…
From my point of view, in Bts, Rachel is symbolized as the forest, with fire, she see much more clearer of herself.
Another thing is:
By listening to the ost from Daughter, you would find that many of those songs are actually speaking of Rachel's thoughts.
Good video
Thank you!
I'm just going to believe that in Rachel's last moments, her thoughts were of Chloe.
5:40 I just noticed that you can see Rachels name on the paper that has the code to the darkroom on it
Man... I really liked Rachel too.
Rachel was definitely a confused person as Nathan said she did want Frank’s stash I’m guessing she only did that because of drugs I believe Rachel loved deeply Chloe
nice one man, u got a new sub :)
It probably is Jefferson, considering he dug up her body up again and in max’s maze nightmare, he says “Rachel not only gave good good headshots, he gave great head”
When I first heard what Chloe said at 0:56 I thought she said fart XD
