Oh, my. Tim O'Brien Is one of the greats of contemporary bluegrass and folk, and Sarah Jarosz is one of the best young artists out there. They sound great together! :) They should perform together more often!
He and Sarah have known one another for a long time, since she was very young. I can't recall where all I've read about their friendship, but yeah, he has been a mentor to her for years. I might have heard it from some of the material related to the Transatlantic Sessions, on which they both appear, actually. But yeah, do some searching, and you should find some stuff about it. They definitely complement one another beautifully. Look at about 1:15-1:30, during Sarah's solo, and you can see Tim smiling and looking almost like a proud dad.
Yeah... Tim O'Brian was born to sing bluegrass and this song along with Blue Night are his signitures. Is it me or does anyone else older than 50 see a little Rick Nelson when the camera gets tight on Tim. Oh well, I miss Hot Rize and especially the young Pete Wernick on 'jo. He's so clean ... it's dirty good.
@chirfu Nouveau Acoustic? Last time I looked that was a Spanish,Latin, form of Flemenco music.Check it out on the Wikipedia and educate yourself. Not what Ricky Skaggs plays or performs. You stated Skaggs is not Bluegrass? With a career that spans nearly 30 years, Ricky Skaggs has become to be known as " Bluegrass Musics Official Ambassador." Ricky began his career as a singer and mandolin player with JD Crowe and the New South in the 1970's. In 1984 he recorded "Wheel Hoss" and won a Grammy!
Ricky Skaggs being featured in country gentleman = progressive bluegrass Kentucky thunder = progressive or nouveau if you will acoustic with roots in bluegrass
@acefiddle Ricky used to play real bluegrass, so did David Grisman. They don't now admittedly and proudly. They are capable but what they are doing now is not Bluegrass. Nouveau is french not spanish. So Ace you can get educated. Wikipedia is not exactly the best place for an education it is written by any and all people willing to post to it. Ricky and Keith's album=Bluegrass Ricky's time with Ralph Stanley = Bluegrass Ricky's time with J.D. Crowe and the new south = Bluegrass with edge
Sorry to upset people, BUT, bluegrass is rhythmically so dull, repetitive, every song sounds the same to me, it really puts me off. Yet I remain a big fan of all these musicians, especially Sarah who is going down her own line.
@acefiddle really? Skaggs is not blue grass... He is more nouveau acoustic and very talented at doing it. He can play real blue grass but is not a traditional player, fo sho....
Thank you, RUclips algorithm for bringing this one to me. Wicked awesome to see and hear an early Sarah Jarosz performance.
Tim O'brien always just blows me away. And Sarah's got such beautiful tone on that solo!

Someone was trying to tell me that Sarah isn't bluegrass. I guess Tim isn't bluegrass either, or Bill Monroe.

@brodank haha. maybe thats why he didnt get one. a visibly anxious banjo player is a scary thing...
every band needs a mandolin
No, cause RICKY SKAGGS and KENTUCKY THUNDER IS BLUEGRASS!!
What, no banjo break??? that banjo player was about to jump out of his skin to get up on that mic.....
wow, she's great. i want her to fall in love with me.
ya' don't like it yet ya' do?

Tdbsnr: your mileage may vary, and you are entitled to your opinion, but it's only your opinion. Other people have different opinions.
