    The music fits the tone of Blackstone Fortress perfectly. Eerie dark gothic sorta, perfect vibe.
    The more I watch BSF painting videos, the more I want to pick it up over the upcoming Shadowspear Box. alas it's only one or the other this month.
    Your Traitor Guard came out really good, and I like the subtle tweaks to models to make each at least a little bit unique.

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks Rodney! I slogged away for about 10 years making weird gothic metal, so making atmospheric music like this comes pretty easy, haha. I've got mixed feelings about the Shadowspear box, so I would throw my vote in the BSF hat :)

    • @keanueraine
      @keanueraine 5 лет назад

      @@MidwinterMinis Sold. I went with your advice and used my Shadowspear cash for BSF. Can't say I'm disappointed at all. Went whole Hog in and bought the Ambul Expansion and Decembers White Dwarf so as to have the Taddeus / Pious Vorne mission and card too. (My wallet hates me). Game is great and my minis are coming along nicely. Taddeus, Jannus Draik, Ammallyn, UR-025 painted for the good guys and all the Ur-Guls and Spindel Drones done. Next are the soul crushing Traitor Guards. With the reveal of BSF Traitor Command, I'm really hoping GW gives us a Traitor Guardsman Index in 2019's Chapter Approved.
      Anyways, thanks for the suggestion. Not regretting it at all.

    Another fantastic video!
    And another tip from me. ;) A great recipe for red "glowing" lenses is basecoating them with yellow and then glazing over them with Bloodletter (Citadel Paint). This'll tint the lenses orange and the yellow in the centre will show through, giving them a natural glowing look.
    I'm also a HUGE fan of painting with shades. Great example of painting the black areas with a black shade.

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  6 лет назад +2

      Great idea! I have Bloodletter... I might try it out :)

    • @keanueraine
      @keanueraine 5 лет назад

      I've started to paint the lens gold or silver and then using a drop of GW/Citadel Gemstone paints like Spiritstone Red, or Silver for Soulstone Blue or Waystone Green.
      Quick link of Duncan demonstrating the technique. I like how it comes out because I suck at doing the base coat, then the layer half moon, then cresent moon then the little tiny drop of paint opposite corner. With this technique, It's fast and easy and looks great.

The techniques you use are so different to what we were doing. I guess that we were more limited by trying to be historically accurate and using slow drying enamels. I was just at the point of trying to do shading and edging when i stopped all that and discovered gurlz and big motorbikes instead. I'm thinking of giving it a try again but i really like the whole steampunk/sail-punk idea so i fancy working with that.

    These have been an excellent series of tutorials - i slightly flubbed my Spindle Drones (blue wash was a little too dark), but your easy to follow guides have made painting 44 minis a slightly less daunting prospect. Would recommend any new viewers to subscribe.

    I like using Halfords grey spray. It’s exactly the same as dawnstone grey .

    My guardmen are actually painted in a grey and i pick the eagle symbols out with a bright silver, so this scheme would work really nicely for my traitor guard (i paint for my own displays rather than tabletop) so this would be great.

    Have you thought of doing frostgrave minis when you got the board game done? Their relatively cheap and are good starting points for building a collection, and the company sells kits for converting them into "space cultists"

    If only I were a good enough painter to give Obsodius a pencil mustache. Great guide as always.
    If you want to sound like a real pro and use the proper terms:
    Gasmask = respirator
    Shovel thingy = entrenching tool
    The wood on the weapons = furniture (honest, its actually what its called)

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  6 лет назад

      ... unless the furniture is on the flamer, in which case it's called "kindling" ;)

    In regards to the grey, fieldgrey which is a greenish grey colour used by the German army during ww2 might also be a cool choice, but these look great as they are nonetheless I especially like the red Bandanas and goggles, the idea I would have for that is have the colours match up to what chaos god they are following, in this case, red for Korne, purple for slanesh, blue for Tzeentch and a pale slickly green for nurgle and probably just a dark brown for chaos undivided

    this content is amazing, I wish I had a series like this when I bought silver tower, which still sits unpainted because I refuse to waste hundreds of dollars on paints and have zero clue on how color theory and stuff works, this is a godsend for a noob like me. To clarify, you gave a lot of different brand recommendations on the initial video's description, but you use the ones you showed in the video proper, right? Just trying to get similar results to yours by reducing the amount of variance to a minmum. Keep up the good work, I subbed :)

      oh, one more thing, did you glue the miniatures together or is the push fit enough?

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  6 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the kind words, matey! You can see the actual paints I use more clearly in the "intro tips and tricks" first episode of this series, if you want to get those exact ones. Yup, I glued the models together, although the push-fit is pretty strong.

    If you used Army Painter brand paints your grey brush paint would exactly match your grey primer spray, making your mistake covering much easier.

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  5 лет назад

      True, but you can't really see any difference in the finished models, so no harm done :)

    Really enjoying your videos - great mix of instructions and side conversation/jokes. The production quality is very good.
    May I ask about the dry brushing technique of using the mdf as the surface to wiping the brush? From your perspective why do you prefer the mdf versus materials like paper, pallet paper, paper towel etc?

    • @MidwinterMinis
      @MidwinterMinis  6 лет назад +1

      Yo! Good question. I started using MDF because you get less tiny fibres and dust appearing when drybrushing. Paper/card tend to make a little dust.
