- This is a full knife build of a mini cleaver neck knife. This little neck knife is light and sharp as heck! The handle design is based off of Walter Sorrells' hawk feather neck knife. If you're looking to make some EDC knives this little guy may fit the bill. Let me know what you think about neck knives in the comments below! 👇

I’m not kidding anyone. I probably love your videos most. You place the bar high and I am just happy to even get close to your finished product. Thanks
Thank you very much! I try and make them clear. The next one is going to be a little bit of a mess... It's going to be how to wire up and electro chemical etching machine... Slightly cumbersome to edit.
My favorite knife. Just sitting down to watch.
Thanks! They are cute.
Neck knives are great. I wear one every time I go shooting in the UK. They do a great job of unzipping rabbits without having to carry a heavy blade.
Very nice Dean! I like them too. Very handy
I like it. I use one when I'm in my kayak .I think I will consider giving this build a shot with the exception of kydex.
Good luck sir!
I have used neck knives a good bit I don’t use them while riding but around camp or around the house they are extremely useful they also can be very good for self defense in places where you may not be able to carry a big knife or gun there’s definitely a time and place for them
Thank you for your thoughts Andrew, I agree for sure!
That is the cutest cleaver ever!!
Lol, thanks!
Love neck knives! Small drop points with or without a small recurve is my favorites.
On a side note, your videos are some of, it not the absolute best on blade making. Teaching with all the details but not to the point of going overboard with the minutia to bore people. Keep me coming!!!
Hey Rob, I really appreciate that! Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you're liking the videos.
Awesome.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great looking knife! I personally love neck knives, especially for just doing work outside around the house. I usually have gloves on and pulling my folder out of my pocket and putting it back can be a hassle. Don't get me wrong, I love my folding knife but every knife isn't for every situation and when I'm working outside with gloves on I love the convenience of a neck knife
Awesome! Thanks for your comment sir! I agree, they're pretty cool
I’m making a neck knife now. It’s my first knife to ever make. I chose this one cause it’s small and I thought it’d be a good first knife and less to mess up for my first knife to make. I cut it out of a saw blade cause I knew it’d be hard already and cause I just have a grinder, Dremel, files and sand paper. I’m tryin to get stuff. I’m just startin out.
Heck yeah man! Good luck!
Cool work dude! Love your workshop!and your k ives!cheers!
Thank you very much! I love your work too.
Aku suka pisaunya, bagus sekali pisaunya
Terima kasih banyak!! Semoga hari mu menyenangkan.
Thats a nice looking little blade!
Thanks Toby!
Really nice job J as always!!!
Thank you!
nice video, thanks for posting!! the 2x4 idea was great!
Razor Edge Knives LLC thanks! Glad you liked it!
Been watching alot of your vids lately and you, sir, are a master of your craft. I purchased some steel and tools today to attempt this one for my first project.
Right on man! Good luck with your build!
i love it
I love that you love it!
amazing...
Thank you! Cheers!
Would love to see you make a gut/skinning knife.
I've done one gut hook before... It's getting to be time that I tried another!
That would be sweet to see. I’m going to be retiring in a year and a half. I’ve been watching every video on knife making. I told my wife that I wanted to start making knifes as a hobby when I retire. So far your videos make it look more do able than most videos out there.
@@gradymcnutt2247 I really appreciate that complement. And that is an awesome goal! I have no doubt you'll be able to do it!
Lookin good brother
Thanks man! Glad you stopped by and took a gander.
You asked about the hole at the tip. Butchers used this to hang the chopper / meat cleaver up when not using it... usually on a small meat hook next the beast working on. For ur info a meat cleaver was principally used for chopping spinal bones when breaking down a beast. The cleaver had a curved spine and was heavier on the end so when swinging it when chopping the momentum caused a better blow . Well that's how I see it.
Bad Ass very cool man! A curve would look great!
I like it dude!!
Thanks! I like it too
Really look forward to learning how to etch a makers mark.
Good deal. I have the video coming up next week. It's tedious... but I go though how to build an etching machine and then how to use it.
I like neck knives because of their size. But prefer to carry them scout carry behind left belt loop.
Good point! They are a handy size. Around the neck isn't for me either.
That was really a small one. Wow.
Sure was!
Forgot to say... great educational and informing...now subscribed
Like especially your commentary and informing what material you use. Tks.
Bad Ass hey thanks! Really glad you enjoyed it!
I just noticed you conceal carry, awesome!!
Guess it wasn't that "concealed" ;) - You never know who will roll up on you. ISIS could be in town! lol
@@RedBeardOps Great point
I really need a center line scribe tool like you made. I never really took to using a grinding jig even though I bought one of the best ones. I really love grinding by hand. I have also found these smaller knives to actually be more difficult than larger knives to grind. I am jealous of your mini mill. I need to buy one when I can afford it.
I've starting to get better at free hand.. really liking it. It takes time though! To learn that is.
That is a very nice, little knife. I haven't built one neck knife myself yet, but your video encourages me to do that in the near future.
You use the same "professional suction system" as I do 😀😀😀.
Lol, glad you liked it sir!
My large kitchen cleaver while sharpening last night bit me pretty good. That lil neck cleaver is cute but I can’t seem to carry a neck knife comfortably. I would still make one just to say I did. Awesome video!!!!
Yeah me either. They're strangely popular though. I could see them being useful maybe if you're an avid hiker?
Agreed. If I were hiking I would probably have a different perspective.
I have a similar little folder. Might be Kizer. I would like there full size version but can’t find it in stock last time I checked
My thought / opinion is this... a 400-600 grit belt machine finish or a hand sanded 400-600g finish followed by a fine blue scotchbrite belt (especially if you’re going to etch the blade or etch and stone wash) is a perfectly acceptable finish for a knife that is meant to be USED DAILY! Call me crazy but I feel like there’s too much pocket jewelry in the industry, Knives that never get used for their intended purpose because they are just too darn pretty 😂🤣. Also I get why ABS quality knives are finished to their level and I am all for handsanding to 1000-2000g on a kitchen knife. But something that’s meant to be used daily, an outdoors/ general purpose working knife, come on that finish is spot on! 👍👍 Another great video J👌👊🤘
Hey man, I appreciate the feedback and thoughts. I agree... For a stone washed finish I really like this belt progression. Still have a lot to learn with my grinder!
I carry neck knife everyday. Without fail. Its a back up for my back up. No one has ever seen or asked if was carrying a neck knife. So it's a fail safe option for me.
Very cool Jeff! Thanks for your comment. I think they're cool little knives!
I prefer pocket or belt knives myself
You know I'm with you there. I don't see myself carrying a neck knife around. But some people love them. I have had some people at work get me to make this "neck knife" as a belt carry knife for their young kids.
Love neck knives they are useful when you dont want to carry a knife in your pocket.... where can I buy a knife you have made
Thanks Robert! I think they're pretty slick too. I don't do custom orders, but I do sell knives from time to time on Instagram. Cheers sir!
Cute Cleaver. But I prefer choil-less. In fact I'm searching for one.
Good deal! Glad you enjoyed this one.
Perfect size & design for a neck🔪.
Always enjoy the process.....Thx man✌🏼
How can I place an order for a knife??
Hey man, I'm not currently taking any orders. Kinda swamped right now. If you follow me on Instagram, I may have some inventory in the future. I'll put in on there first.
JKeetonKnives ....right on I kinda figured. I’m not on Instagram but maybe I’ll hv too most of 🔪community is. Anyways thx for answering & for all the content I learn a lot 👍🏻👍🏻.
@@dsknives310 10-4 man. Yeah, is a great medium for knives. And thanks!
Mr. J. Keeton/Redbeard OPS,
Enjoy your channel & appreciate your teaching.
You are a gifted, thanks for sharing. How can I get the templates for the EDC and this little cleaver?
Please continue making videos. God Bless!
Hey Gregg, I may be able to find the template for this guy. Send me an email. Some of the knives I have posted the PDF in the description. I for sure posted the PDF in the video description for my Amazon Knife build. Glad you're liking these!

Will do
What kind of bands do you use on your bandsaw when you're cutting out the profile and where do you get them?
These blades have been working great for me - amzn.to/2Z4fMRV
I subscribed, I am a hobbiest and your videos are so educational. Two questions, I am upgrading to a 2x42 . I did watch your review, do you think the 3/4 hp would be better than the 1/3. Also was that straight FC on the acid treat or deluged with something else. Again thanks JKeeton.
Thanks! The 1/3 HP worked great for me on the 2x42. No issues for what I was doing with it. I dilute my FC 50/50 with water.
I noticed what you carry on the small of your back, what’s your protection of choice? F you don’t mind me asking? Also how long ago did you starting making knives and what got you into it?
Hey man. I Have a little ruger LCP I carry all over the place. It's easy so small that it's effortless. Winter time I carry a Kahr PM9. I got into knife making after watching the 2003 movie "The Hunted."... They made a knife in the woods in that move. Next weekend I tried doing it myself. Good old Tommy Lee Jones. I was in highschool. I then took a lot of time off and got back into it once I moved to Texas.
Hey I carry the lcp as well, but I got it in that coyote tan color, but I carry it on my front right pocket, for winter I switch to the gold old G19. Since the new laws past yesterday have you considered making any knuckles? I have seen that movie! That’s great man, keep doing what you are doing because it’s great!
@@blackbeard3573 I haven't, you're talking brass knuckles? Thanks for the praise. I carry that LCP in a wallet holster, appendix, and lower back. Also a boot from time to time... that thing is awesomely versatile.
Nice blade by the way, looks like a fun build. Love your approach to filming your process, priceless info my friend. Keep grindin'!
Thank you very much, sir!
So when r u making one these for my Bush kit
Hey man I appreciate it, but I'm not taking custom orders at this time. When I do have a knife for sale I put it up on instagram.
I’m sure you’ve had this question a gazillion times, but...where did you get your stencils for etching your makers mark? TIA!
Hey man, this is where I get mine! www.tustech.com/admin/home
@@RedBeardOps thank buddy!
Are any of the knives for sale?
No sir, sorry about that. Cheers
I have been a subscriber for a while and enjoy your videos. I like the look of this cute cleaver neck knife, could you give me an idea of the dimensions please, I know you said it is an Inch (25mm) wide, so I can get the proportions right could you give me the blade and handle length please.
For sure. It's 1/8'' thick and about 1'' wide. The total length is around 4''
@@RedBeardOps Thank you, that does help, I am only just starting out with knife making and I find the hardest thing is getting the proportions right.
@@grahamturner2469 No problem, I checked my measurements. The over all length is 4.5''. The handle is 2.45''. The blade width is 1'.
I haven't ever worn a neck knife, and cant say that I ever will. I just don't see the point (😜), I'm sure I'm missing the point of wearing one as such. But, having to take it off to use it seems kind of clumsy, when you can pull it out of a sheath. I suppose if one has to swim across a river, then it makes sense.
lol, loved the pun!
have you tried using your older ceramics for rough grinding handles? Not saying you should, but it just seems like spending money on new aluminium oxide belts that are gonna get gummed up, to me, is a waste of money, which could be spent on better belts... I know I've said this before & I understand the higher j-flex belts, just wondering if you tried it... Kool little knife, hope all is well, take it easy...
I have, and I still do. I just like having some fresh 60 grit 1.50$ belts lying around too. I'm trying to get good at throwing away belts quicker. You take it easy too! Thanks for the comment.
Good luck y’all with throwing away belts. I’m gonna go to treatment for hoarding belts. Wish me luck!!! 😂
@@e.t.preppin7084 Good luck! LOL
I would love to understand the etching process. I’m like seriously in the dark here I definitely need some education in this process.
@@e.t.preppin7084 This is how I do it from start to finish! ruclips.net/video/761hHVnE9i8/видео.html (Links to the acid in the description)
How would I contact you to make a specific knife for my wife for our anniversary
Hey Robert, I'm flattered, but I'm not taking any custom orders. When I do sell a knife it's on Instagram and generally at random.
Nice little knife.. where do you get your stencils?
I'm working on a video about how to build and etcher and use it right now! I get my stencils from here: www.tustech.com/admin/home
Lol... I really like your videos.. thanks for the link..
in my country I´m allowed to carry my keys and phone. Nothing else because of freedom
Cheers from Texas!
What's the total length on this knife?
Man, I honestly don't remember. Maybe 5''?
@@RedBeardOps thanks man!
Dude, your voiceover is superfluous! Better silent video!
Surry you disliked it! Have a great Sunday!
@@RedBeardOps I liked the video! I put the like!
@@Depytat96 Awesome! Thank you very much! 🙌
Honestly I can not see myself carrying a kneck knife. They strike me as more of a "Tacticool" decoration than a useful tool. Plus if you do use it at your party to cut food, nothing says yummy like chest sweat and random curly hairs.
Yeah, I don't either. I think these were popularized by hikers... not sure.
Why are American made eyelets better?
Red beard ops: Maybe that's a question you should ask China?
Good question there Matt. I found the DIY holster eyelets don't crush. I'm not sure if it's doe to brand, equipment, materials, etc. I'm guessing the DIY Holster eyelets have a slightly thicker wall thickness? Who knows. I stick with them now though. Cheers sir!
