Hi Joe, Wonderful video.. very clear & good audio. I had two fly away's with Aero Scouts. White airplane against a white sky disappears the airplane like magic. . Do you know if I could install a GPS module in that Plane? Otherwise I might have to get an Apprentice. Can I use that feature with AR 637-T?

Hi Joe, Yes, I agree that my next plane would be an Apprentice, but I still love the pusher Aero Scout which flips over in wind but doesn't hurt the prop. Do you know if it can have the virtual fence feature or would I have to change out receivers (AR637T + GPS Module)? 100 + flights on the Aero Scout and 2 fly away's. Am slow to learn...72 years since I was nine wanting to fly r/c. Ha.

Great video buddy. Question for you, I did read everything and can't find it. Maybe I missed it. So Sorry if it's the case In auto land, how the power or throttle management work? Do you have to do it your self or the flight controller does it? thanks again

Fantastic! Well done Joe. Can this be done on the E-Flite STS Habu RTF Model which I am getting this week? Do you have any instructions at installing the GPS and LAS module? . Many thanks

If you were to come back the next day to the same area, would you have to reset the virtual fence or would it be stored until you turn it off. Tnx, Rich
Hey Joe, I got my apprentice thanks to your video my plane landed in one piece. Question: if I turn off my plane do I have to go through same steps again to set up the GPS virtual fence again?
I've looked and my sts never came with the green card for the virtual fence settings. I bought the gps and las units as well and neither of those came with anything.
@@DronemanJoeRc flight went very well. Now I have an issue with the ledflashing red and blue rapidly with no control over the airplane. I think its the transmitter isn't talking to the plane. Any tips on how to reconnect?
Yes there is in the manual it shows you. You will only need to do that once if you fly at the same field bc the plane remembers its location. If you change fields then you will just calibrate. To calibrate it just a few simple spininng around the plane until it gps lock, if you have a drone with gps its the same thing. Once you fly it once you will see how easy it is.
Wow what a really helpful video fella!!!!!!! BRILLIANT INFO I’ve got 2 questions for you, if I may. I’m going to fit my gps module this weekend to my sts apprentice, the gps has just arrived and I know I need to set the geofence up whilst at the flying field but what about the compass calibration? Do I do that also at the flying field just before I set the gps up ? or could I do the compass set up at home in my garden? Thank you for such an informative video. Whilst I’m on it might be worth a mention that to Cary out my range test I need to throw the toggle switch 6 times not 4 times as stated in my manual. Just thought that might help some people out there if they’re struggling how to enter the range test mode Regards Dave North Yorkshire England.
You would set the compass up at the airfield and once you do that you wont need to do it again, unless you go to a new place to fly bc it remembers where you are. You can do your range test anywhere. Thanks for asking.
Ah I see, that’s priceless info Joe!!!!! So every time I pick a new flying spot I need to set the compass first and then the gps. Got it Thanks again for your help/videos.
yes bc if you pic a new spot if its out of the range of the spot you was currently in you will need to do a compass cal. Glad you like the vid and it helped and hope you sub to the channel for more info?
@@DronemanJoeRc consider it done👍🏻 Joe, if I pick a new flying spot say 10 miles away from home and set my compass/gps up etc and then another week or two I decide to go back to my first original flying field again nearer to my house would I have to redo the compass/gps again at my original field again? In other words can the sts remember more than one flying field Regards Dave
Droneman. I was trying to help a buddy calibrate his today and we were getting hung up on the compass calibration. He has GPS and LAS. What are the exact steps to calibrate the compass? Thanks for the above video man. I think it will help after we get past the compass calibration.
watch what I do exactly what I say..you need to follow what I say. I dont know what your doing wrong? if all is hooked up right with the gps and las then you should have no issues.
I know but you don’t show compass calibration. We would get a red light and then a red and green dot inside of a yellow circle on the planes dashboard. Steps. Power on transmitter with sticks down and inwards. Turn. On plane. Elevator sets and ailerons start wagging. Turn plane tail over nose twice. Then hold plane 90 degree bank and roll it to the right twice. Then power off transmitter and then power off plane a few seconds later. When we turn everything back on again nothing works right and we get the blinking lights described above.
Great video ! thank you. I lost my E-flight 70mm Viper two days ago ! Lost it in some dark gray sky. I took a look at my time left, and when I look back to the plane, couldn't see it... I could hear it but couldn't find it back. You see me coming :) Could the virtual fence be installed in other E-Flight airplanes ? Not the auto landing, but the virtual fence ! Thank you,
Sorry to hear that. that really sucks. I know a few other planes are able to use the gps module, I think the timber can but I would check with horizon on others. I thinks a nice feature but Im getting alot better at flying now so I dont really use it myself anymore. But I wanted to make a video about it bc there isnt any others that tells you how it works and after talking to horizon they couldn't even tell me how to actually set it up.

Great Video BUT please DO NOT stand in front of the plane when you switch the receiver on just in case for some reason the motor decides to throttle up.
I would like to know if the auto land will always bring the plane in to land in the same direction, or will it be the take of direction. Was wondering if a change in wind happened the original landing direction might not be the best. Also does the gps come standard on the apprentice STS or was it an option you added on. Great video by the way.

Yes i do believe you need the als for auto land. As you get better with manually landing you learn more on how to flare better. I prefer to manually land bc you dont want to get use to using that feature bc you wont learn. Thanks for the questions.
No the auto land doesn't require the LAS sensor (only GPS), however the LAS renders auto-land smoother.
Idk but if your new to the hobby I would get this bird and link here www.horizonhobby.com/product/apprentice-sts-1.5m-rtf-basic-smart-trainer-with-safe/EFL370001.html and watch some of my other videos on it and its one of the best birds to learn on. Idk where your from but I would join a club near you and ppl in the club should be happy to help you learn how to fly.
Ha.
@@alexmorgan7009 idk bc i dont have that plane. It would say in the manual if you can set that up with the mods. The fence is ok but you will prob not use it much.
WHAT GPS MODEL ARE YOU USING WITH THE APPRENTICE STS
Im using the one from horizon hobby the link is in the description on the video.
@@DronemanJoeRc Thank you!
Great video buddy.
Question for you, I did read everything and can't find it. Maybe I missed it. So Sorry if it's the case
In auto land, how the power or throttle management work? Do you have to do it your self or the flight controller does it?
thanks again
the flight controller does it when the plane lands it will throttle down and then once it lands you can throttle up to taxi back to you.
@@DronemanJoeRc will try for sure. Thanks a lot
Nice flight !! ;-)
Thank you
A tip : you can watch movies at kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@August Chad definitely, have been using kaldroStream for months myself :)
@August Chad yup, I've been using Kaldrostream for since december myself :)
Hello. Excellent tutorial. What is that part number on Amazon for the plane stand? Thank you
I will afto check that and get back to you.
If you go to amazon and put rc plane stand it comes up first in the results
Hey Joe really enjoying your videos. Can you do a video on gps and landing assist install?
if you get the plane in the manual its very easy to install, it takes about 2 mins to install them, so I didnt do a video of that bc it was a no brainer. Thanks let me know if you get the plane. Also if you go to horizon hobby and look for the rtf version of the apprentice sts and you can look at the manual and see how easy it is.
@@DronemanJoeRc Yes sir you were right! Very easy to install. Now I’ll plug them in and go to the back yard and bind it up and let it find gps and do the compass calibration. After that can I just turn off the gps until I get to the flying field and then set up the virtual fence and home?
Fantastic! Well done Joe. Can this be done on the E-Flite STS Habu RTF Model which I am getting this week? Do you have any instructions at installing the GPS and LAS module? . Many thanks
I dont know about that plane you will need to look at the manual and the gps and las is very easy that info is in the manual. It just a matter of plugging in the gps and popping in the las it easy. Thanks for the comment and good flying.
@@DronemanJoeRc Thanks Joe. I now have the Apprentice STS like your video - which way are the pins for the GPS socket. so small I can't figure out which pins on the plug from the GPS Module 3173 to go into the receiver that came with the plane - A3230
@@solarstrategy9967 Having the same problem plugging in the gps module in Did you ever get it figured out?
Hi do you have to do this every time you go to a field?
No it remembers via gps. All you need to do is turn it off i you want at the field.
If you were to come back the next day to the same area, would you have to reset the virtual fence or would it be stored until you turn it off. Tnx, Rich
No it will always remember the location when you startup with the gps on.
How far away is the virtual fence set
Its about 400 meters by 200 meters
Nice video! Does the STS use the A3230 flight controller? Is that flight controller a receiver as well?
yes it does and it comes installed with the rtf and bnf versions
How long does this fly with one battery?
I got about 15 mins on mine but I wasnt doing any stunts or flips just normal flying.
If the plane is coming in on auto land and something happens how do you take back control of the plane?
Hold in the auto land/bind button a few seconds or just use the sticks that lets you take control.
Hey Joe, I got my apprentice thanks to your video my plane landed in one piece. Question: if I turn off my plane do I have to go through same steps again to set up the GPS virtual fence again?
No once you set it done. If you want to turn it off follow what it says on that green card.
I've looked and my sts never came with the green card for the virtual fence settings. I bought the gps and las units as well and neither of those came with anything.
They must of left it out of the box, i can email you copy tonight if you email me at dronemanproductions@gmail.com
@@DronemanJoeRc I emailed you. Thanks alot!!
sorry it to a day but your email was in my spam. hope your flight went good!!
@@DronemanJoeRc flight went very well. Now I have an issue with the ledflashing red and blue rapidly with no control over the airplane. I think its the transmitter isn't talking to the plane. Any tips on how to reconnect?
Is there a compass calibration for the apprentice STS safe plus?
Yes there is in the manual it shows you. You will only need to do that once if you fly at the same field bc the plane remembers its location. If you change fields then you will just calibrate. To calibrate it just a few simple spininng around the plane until it gps lock, if you have a drone with gps its the same thing. Once you fly it once you will see how easy it is.
Wow what a really helpful video fella!!!!!!!
BRILLIANT INFO
I’ve got 2 questions for you, if I may.
Just thought that might help some people out there if they’re struggling how to enter the range test mode

Dave

England.
Got it
Thanks again for your help/videos.
yes bc if you pic a new spot if its out of the range of the spot you was currently in you will need to do a compass cal. Glad you like the vid and it helped and hope you sub to the channel for more info?
@@DronemanJoeRc
consider it done👍🏻
Joe, if I pick a new flying spot say 10 miles away from home and set my compass/gps up etc and then another week or two I decide to go back to my first original flying field again nearer to my house would I have to redo the compass/gps again at my original field again? In other words can the sts remember more than one flying field
Regards
Dave
Nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
I dont know what your doing wrong? if all is hooked up right with the gps and las then you should have no issues.
why is he having issues? with compass probs. I need more info on what he is doing when he sets the plane up?
do what I said and follow it step by step..Its the only video that shows this!!
@@DronemanJoeRc the manual says you have to set up the compass the first time.
@@DronemanJoeRc
Thank you.
It would be a nice feature on fast planes.
Sorry to hear that. Did you ever find it?
Manual has 2 whole pages how to do this
maybe the new manual does but Im the old one didnt show it and I shared my info to HH and they published it. what a rip off for my work if thats the case. I will have to check out there new manual. thanks for telling me.
@@DronemanJoeRc mine is like 2 year old now. It was spread out on several pages starting on page 23 i believe. It also has 3 sizes if a perimeter. 2 circles then air field limit like a rectangle. Honestly from what i can tell you did it like it shows
Great Video BUT please DO NOT stand in front of the plane when you switch the receiver on just in case for some reason the motor decides to throttle up.
Thanks for the tip
I would like to know if the auto land will always bring the plane in to land in the same direction, or will it be the take of direction. Was wondering if a change in wind happened the original landing direction might not be the best. Also does the gps come standard on the apprentice STS or was it an option you added on. Great video by the way.
it will always land in the direction you took off in unless you take control and cancel the auto land. the gps and auto land mods are sold separately I put links in the description on how to get them.
Hello, thanks for that video and please hello me and give me slowly informations please,,
How is the device equipped with GPS? What are the device settings?
The plane comes with the gps already installed you dont have to do anything in settings.
I'm about to do this in the habu sts any1 have any luck with it?
Im sure it works the same if that plane has the options for gps and landing asst.
👌👍
thank you my friend
Typical Horizon Hobby crap instructions. Looks like a nice plane but they’ll discontinue it in a year for a new model. You’d also think they could just have an app for all the gps setup stuff. Thanks for information. They should pay you for your service.
It really is the only video on RUclips or anywhere to show you how to set this up bc they dont. and yeah you would think they would..Im so glad help you out. thanks for watching.
If I need a fence I don't need that plane lol
Funny..its a excellent instructional video that isn't found on RUclips and alot of ppl appreciate it
Great video! You should also get the Carbon Cub S2, which I believe is the next most popular high-wing trainer which got fantastic reviews. Then, you should do a comparison video to the Apprentice:

You should ask the video poster below, as they have it set up on their plane. Watch from 9:45
