It's all about the music. No sequined jackets, no strobe lights, no smoke machines. Just five musicians in jeans playing their hearts out. 'Course it helps to have the best singer of his era (and probably of all time).
I went to all of their concerts in DFW in the 70s and 80s. Journey is the definition of superior talent...unmatched vocals, lyrics, instrumentals, and arrangements every single time. Chills and tears.
Cool fact about this song....when they were recording it in the studio, the producer wanted to put the guitar solo somewhere in the middle of the song. But, Steve Perry fought back on that approach and insisted that the song end with a stretched-out guitar solo, instead of going back into a verse or the chorus. He thought it would add an almost "haunting" quality to it for the listener. In the end, Steve won that argument. On the studio album version, the guitar solo has a slow fade in volume as it ends, giving it that quality that Steve insisted on. Masterful.
Anyway You Want It live in Houston! I know that you did the official video but it's nothing like live. Steve as the ultimate showman. How can he sing at that level when he's running all over the place?!
Great sharing your reaction. I think people forget what great songwriters these guys were! They wrote all their songs. Most were a collaborative effort although a few were by individual members. And yes, Steve was a great frontman.
I agree 100 percent. Steve Ramps (don’t understand how he can improve, but he does!)it up for live performances. Houston 1981 is the best overall concert I have seen. 😄
I have been a longtime fan of Journey and Steve Perry. I will miss Steve, but will hear Arnel Pineda perform in his place when Journey comes to Lexington in February of 2023. Their music is timeless and your reactions to them should inspire a new generation of young fans. Some reaction videos are boring and a waste of time. Yours are very entertaining and much appreciated.
Journey in its original form, was only instrumental. In fact, the band resisted Steve Perry for a long time, before he joined. Especially Greg Rolie. Former Keyboards player.
Prabably the greatest rock bands of all time. They made it looks easy. And all of them are top of their game. They were so far ahead of the bands of that era. Decades ahead
Saw them live in 81 for this tour and NEVER EVER LEFT MY ❤️. Thank you thank you for doing your reaction. Love journey. Send her my love is great too glad you did that one. Steve Smith great drummer. The entire band was just absolutely wonderful.
Steve Perry is the voice he is a LEGEND IN ROCK MUSIC there is no comparison no disrespect to the other singers from Journey but let's be honest Steve Perry was Journey! He is also a very nice person and truly cares for his fellow man! 💜
It's a pleasure to watch you react to Journey! You bring a smile to my face everytime! Ever since my teenage years and still now, they have always been my favorite! So much talent!
💕😊☮ You are using big words for this reaction and I'm loving it!!🔥🎶 Another genius piece of art. Oh that, pure, buttery voice. Soulful angst. Just wonderful❤ One of my fav reactions, Hap. Peace J ✌ ☮💕
I got to see these guys live in concert on their tour following this one (the Frontiers tour) and remember both the red piano and Steve Perry's flawless voice ike it was yesterday. For my first ever concert, I picked a winner!
Another great reaction Hap! Loving watching you go down the Journey and Steve Perry rabbit hole. I’ve mentioned it before, but I hope you find time to react to Steve Perry’s solo called Missing You. His vocals are unbelievably, gloriously gorgeous and crystal clear. The song is beautifully haunting and quite a beautiful love song. Right up there with Open Arms and Send Her My Love in my opinion. Looking forward to many more Journey and Steve Reactions. Steve Perry was my first love before Freddie Mercury. Enjoy the ride. Take care friend ♥️
Him or SHIM ?! Hahah, a fantastic new word! What an amazing song! I don't know much about Steve Perry but every time I see and hear him I get this childlike, innocent quality about him, he seems like a really sweet person. At 06:56 I thought "Brian May?!!" 😁 That guitar solo at the end was fantastic! As the whole song and your reaction equally.
Wow, just fantastic, powerful, uplifting, what more to say🎸🎶🤩🥰 Oh, I know this song, but haven’t known that’s from them🤦🏻♀️. Nothing more to say, you are right HAP, epic, this riff… you are sitting literally on the edge of your seat and start to groove 🕺🏼. Okay, I have to explore more of them. I‘m going straight to your playlist 😊👍. Thank you for this emotional reaction 🥰🙋🏻♀️
This sounds like the story of a tempestuous love affair. Steve Perry, why do all your songs sound so personal?? You make me cry 😢. And that guitar 🎸 sounded as though it was wailing in sadness too. So good. And I agree that Steve did seem to be interacting more than I’ve seen before. I wish I had seen them in person.
Saw ya gettin’ a little emotional there Hap. That’s how we Journey fans all feel about them. Their music grabs our heart and soul and never lets go. Interesting fun fact. Neal Schon’s guitar solo in this song is amazing but longer than radio air time. They wanted Journey to shorten the guitar solo and Steve Perry said no way...play it as is. These guys are truly special and gifted. True talents each and every member of this band I love called Journey. ❤️
Fantastic song, love it your analogy was very much on point. A unhappy relationship, fighting, one giving more it seems, their stubbornness but yet they stay together because of love. Awesome reaction to a unforgettable song, Hap 💜🎵💜🎵 great song choice Debra,S.
Love your reactions. Here’s more - Why can’t this night go on forever- I’ll be alright without you- it’s just the rain - If Only for a moment girl- Missing you - Anyway. Some are Steve’s singles
Great reaction! Happy you are able to share and enjoy this classic. Journey has always been one of my favorites. Steve’s vocals will make your eyes water. My new favorite voice is Courtney Hadwin. My opinion when she gets going it will be as good as Steve.
You have class young man, excellent taste. Steve Perry, what a singer. Great band. I was in high school when this song came out, it was huge. Nice to remember being young. Much love.
Got to love JOURNEY. I just love to hear STEVE PERRY sing. Yes I do listen to other bands. I love this band too not as much as QUEEN though. Great reaction HAP. Where are my QUEEN videos ?? You are killing me with not playing QUEEN. Love the reactions to other bands and artist too. Here is another artist for you check out. GEORGE STRAIT. He is my favorite country and western singer. Thank you HAP for all that you do with these videos. Take care and have a good evening. Your girl, QUEEN BEE.
Pra além de ser uma das minhas três bandas favoritas , acho Steve perry um dos grandes vocalistas de sempre do panorama do rock mundial . Já para não falar do orgulho que sinto do sangue português que lhe corre nas veias . Journey, grande banda ! 🙏🇵🇹
Thanks for noticing the bass (Ross V.) and drums (Steve S.) - less is more and still makes the song pulsate. Always like how Journey mixes piano and synth (Jonathan C. - genius). A 70s band with no problem crossing over to the 80s. Steve & Neal are simply virtuosos.
I was about 11 when I first heard this song and it has been my all-time favorite from them ever since. Steve Perry's vocals were other-worldly, a truly unique talent. Arnel and the other guys who've emulated Steve's vocals since he left the band have done a great job but there's no matching the original in my opinion. I feel blessed for having grown up in the generation that I did, the talent of this generation was amazing.
This is the only Journey song where I actually prefer the album cut. It has a much more atmospheric/mysterious vibe to it. Especially in Steve’s ‘woah’ wail before the last chorus. You can hear he has backed away from the microphone so it sounds like he is off in the distance somewhere, and a bit of echo was added. Neal’s solo picks up on these details and carries it out. It’s a beautiful arrangement.
I have "The Essential Journey", which is a 2 CD set of live performances. The performance here surely is the one on the CD for the song, because he slips in Houston there. I didn't get the full sense of incredibleness from this playing here, compared to when I play it at home. Maybe it's just my own sound system that's falling short. Edit I looked at my collection. I also have a Greatest Hits Live CD, which may or may not have the versions of songs as the Essential CD set. At least still confident one of these is Houston for the song.
You know there's four versions of Journey. The first two lps didn't have Steve. The second version had Steve and the Greg Rollie on keyboard/piano/vocals ( my favourite) , Greg left and Cain joined that started "Escape". Later Steve left and unfortunately they replaced him instead of just quitting.
It's all about the music. No sequined jackets, no strobe lights, no smoke machines. Just five musicians in jeans playing their hearts out. 'Course it helps to have the best singer of his era (and probably of all time).
It is HARD to sing that softly and to pull it off in a live performance boggles the mind. So much patience and control.
Remember that time Steve was flat? Or had to go into falsetto? Or wasn't amazing? Me neither. My all-time favorite male voice ever.
Join the club 😁 Brilliance.
🤔😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was good, Vicki! lol
The best Malé voice ever no doubt about MR steve Perry
I went to all of their concerts in DFW in the 70s and 80s. Journey is the definition of superior talent...unmatched vocals, lyrics, instrumentals, and arrangements every single time. Chills and tears.
I went to several of their concerts, he was always interactive with the crowd!
I was lucky enought to see Journey the spring of 82. Same Escape tour. They were amazing. And only 30 bucks!
Perry is the voice hes Journey iconic ❤🎉
This is LIVE! No auto tune for Steve Perry. He is awesome!
Great song love Steve Perry he's amazing so is the band JOURNEY
A great one is " I Wish This Night Would Last Forever ". I don't think that's the actual title, but similar. An underrated, beautiful song.
I agree
this song gets me every time I hear it just stunning
Cool fact about this song....when they were recording it in the studio, the producer wanted to put the guitar solo somewhere in the middle of the song. But, Steve Perry fought back on that approach and insisted that the song end with a stretched-out guitar solo, instead of going back into a verse or the chorus. He thought it would add an almost "haunting" quality to it for the listener. In the end, Steve won that argument. On the studio album version, the guitar solo has a slow fade in volume as it ends, giving it that quality that Steve insisted on. Masterful.
❤
Steve always thought about what the people would love the most. It's always been about their fans
@@chrisr.2886 Indeed! Man...those were the days!
@@jimbojumbo5805 Yes, they were. It's nothing like today's society. Everyone is out for themselves. Sad
@@chrisr.2886 No question about it. I'd go back to the early 80's right now if I could. Damn...I miss those days so much.
Steve Perry sings beautifully.
His voice is magic.
Just listen...
This Journey at their best and that’s why Steve Perry is the Voice. 🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
Love! Love! Love! Goosebumps everytime 🥲🥰❤️ Thank YOU JOURNEY 💞Thank YOU Herbie Herbert💞
Anyway You Want It live in Houston! I know that you did the official video but it's nothing like live. Steve as the ultimate showman. How can he sing at that level when he's running all over the place?!
This song is magical, Wow! Steve Perry is 😮 mesmerizing.

Yes, I can. I did several times. And Steve solo tour several times. Amazing!
Steve Perry is from my home town he's an awesome amazing powerhouse. I fell in love with him 1982 when I saw him in concert for the first time
Great sharing your reaction. I think people forget what great songwriters these guys were! They wrote all their songs. Most were a collaborative effort although a few were by individual members. And yes, Steve was a great frontman.
“Send her my love” the main riff gets ya hooked instantly!! 👍🏼
This entire concert was amazing to see. It gives you everything you need from a live performance. Perfection!! (in my humble opinion)
Amazing!
I agree 100 percent. Steve Ramps (don’t understand how he can improve, but he does!)it up for live performances. Houston 1981 is the best overall concert I have seen. 😄
Check out Steve's latest solo album. He came back after 25 years and made an album a couple years ago. He's working on another right now.
My favorite band!!! Love, love, love Steve Perry and Journey! ❤️❤️❤️
I have been a longtime fan of Journey and Steve Perry. I will miss Steve, but will hear Arnel Pineda perform in his place when Journey comes to Lexington in February of 2023. Play all Houston live 81 it never disappoint especially Escape 🎧❤️

I love your reaction!!! I’ve cried many tears to their music.
Love this Song 💓💓... Thank U Hap 👍🏻😊👍🏻
Love, love, love it!
One of my favorite songs by them
I love your tangents. They make me smile. Great song. Great reaction!
An awesome voice ❤️🎶🤗

@HAP3SPEAKZ would love to hear Be Good To Yourself, After the Fall, and Still They Ride 😉💕
Great music, thank you Hap…. 🎼🎶🎶👍
Niel can tear up his guitar. One of the best.
This song made me cry to brotha, greetings from Galveston Texas
I love Steve Perry and the band Journey.
Your tangents are just fine 😁 And Journey will never be Journey for me without Steve Perry. Or Steve Smith on drums.
That solo outro, magic.
Love this band so much. Hard to choose a favorite song. Lights is probably my fave. Or Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin. I just can't choose one.. lol
Saw the tour from the front row. Loved this song then and 40 years later I still do.
I got to see these guys live in concert on their tour following this one (the Frontiers tour) and remember both the red piano and Steve Perry's flawless voice ike it was yesterday. For my first ever concert, I picked a winner!
His voice is just so epic. In your word, 'ACE' 👍🏼 💯 your reaction was on top of the world too! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. 🎶
Awesome!😎👍❤️1982, Cow Palace, Journey and Loverboy…..great concert! Open Arms was incredible!
Another great reaction Hap! Loving watching you go down the Journey and Steve Perry rabbit hole. I’ve mentioned it before, but I hope you find time to react to Steve Perry’s solo called Missing You. Hej from Sweden..
I have perhaps letting you know already but listen to "I stand alone" Steve solo... wow!!
This concert is available on iTunes. I watch it every so often because most music today is auto tuned crap!
Wow, just fantastic, powerful, uplifting, what more to say🎸🎶🤩🥰

Me encanta escuchar a Steve Perry!
I'm with you on this one, "Send Her My Love" and "Open Arms."
Anything Journey. Saw them 3 times, phenomenal!!
I love the bass on Send Her My Love, it's super dope
This sounds like the story of a tempestuous love affair. Steve Perry, why do all your songs sound so personal?? You make me cry 😢. And that guitar 🎸 sounded as though it was wailing in sadness too. You have class young man, excellent taste. Steve Perry, what a singer. Great band. I was in high school when this song came out, it was huge. Nice to remember being young. Much love.
I saw the Escape tour in LA. Unfortunately, I have no ticket stub or t-shirt to show for it....my bad.
It's insane lol
Mr perry shout already always I like that the best off the best🎤🎤🎤🎤🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great reaction! Perry is so talented. There actually is another song called, "Look Who's Crying Now" but not as well known by another artist.
Send her my love was one of Steve Perry's favorite too, along with me. You should do a reaction to "Escape" from the same concert. Great performance
Got to love JOURNEY. I just love to hear STEVE PERRY sing. Yes I do listen to other bands. I love this band too not as much as QUEEN though. Great reaction HAP. Where are my QUEEN videos ??
