- Guess who's back. Back again.
Apologies to dub only watchers. I went with subs this time because 1) in dub Anzu refers to ikemen as "hot" or "cute guys" making it sound more like her opinion than a title, which ruined the vibes a little 2) it's the version I watched it in first and 3) although I only watched a little of the dub, I really like Anzu's original sub voice a bit better, and the sub overall this time around. She sounds a little more gruff or whatever when she's ticked off.
We've got a female aroace rep this time! The previous examples on my channel have also been rather cold appearing characters, so it's nice that we also get someone who's genuinely really sweet and friendly. While I love my don't-give-no-shits aroace characters, it's nice to have rep that shows we aren't all cold hearted jerks ^^;
I was so certain at the beginning of the anime that they'd make her fall in love with one of the characters and have some icky message that your other passions in life aren't as important as romance, but they didn't go that route. It was nice ^^
That said, I can see Anzu possibly having a romantic interest in one of the characters, but I headcanon her as maybe Greyromantic or something. Irregardless! As I said in the disclaimer, nothing has been confirmed so headcanons are a free for all! ^.^
And because I know some of you might comment,
aro/aces experience LITTLE to NO attraction, Anzu likely falling in the "little" category. While she may have some "doki-doki" moments, that does not prove that she does not fall on the aroace spectrum. While she may have moments she does not appear to have actual romantic feelings FOR the individual. It's more just an exciting moment, or it's a watered down version of what allos (people who experience romantic or sexual attraction) will typically feel, and their feelings don't run as deeply in comparison, or it could be more akin to the feelings from a squish--which is like a platonic version of a crush. Many aroaces confuse feelings of a squish and assume it's romantic attraction (since they've probably never experienced romantic attraction before to compare their feelings to)

I will mention for anyone who wants to watch this show but haven't yet,
Moderate content warning for the last couple of episodes. Some scenes were a little uncomfy, but they weren't the kind of uncomfy that feels unnecessary like in a lot of anime. I thought it was done quite well. But I thought I should mention it for anyone who might not be ok with that stuff. Overall I really enjoyed the show and would recommend it for a fun time.

There's one scene where Anzu's friend is tricked into coming to a boys house and he tries to touch her (but fails)
And there's a segment showing one of the ikemen's background story with his stalker, one scene shows that she drugs him, and comes into his room and touches him (not too explicitly, but still. He's unconscious. It's icky to watch.) It's also stated she had put hidden cameras in his house, and poses as him in social media and humiliates him.

5-6 months ago and thought it would be a cute and funny romance anime (which it basically is, I need to re-watch this, it’s so good T-T)
But it also throws in some dark things (which I’m actually glad that they brought attention to)
I wish there was more episodes… (it’s a really good anime don’t get me wrong, but it feels like it could have gone a lot farther…)
I cried with Kazuki's backstory and I understand him kinda too well, I think it's something we should talk about, how a stalker can literally ruin someone's life and it was the first time I see an anime that doesn't romantize it or makes the fandom ship stalker × victim, that's the main reason why I love this anime

Comedy aside, I really loved this show because of its portrayal of platonic relationships. Of course, Anzu has her best friend from the beginning, but I also like that they really emphasized that a girl and a guy can be close to each other without it being inherently romantic. I have literally shed tears when Anzu hugged Kazuki after he told her about his trauma, and I probably will do it again. If you haven't seen this show, please do. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

For real, the way she cherishes all of her playonic connections equally and just wants to be a supportive friend is so iconic. I also cry everytime she shows support for Kazuki and say with all words that his trauma is not his fault. Even Rin grew to be someone important to her.
I'm sad the show is so short, but I'm also glad it finished where it did.

What I love most about Romantic Killer is how, for an anime where romance is the initial driving force, it truly prioritizes platonic relationships to a point that are rarely done in media (and specially in fandom). Instead of going the obvious route of making Anzu act like an asshole to the love interests, or even worse making her be completely infactueted with them, they instead make her an actual decent and kind person, who sees that the boys are also being played by Riki, who very well represents the pressure on romance society in general places on people.
All of the emotional impact the show have only exist BECAUSE Anzu decides to fight against the romance pressure and aims to grow decent platonic relationships with the others. She cares and she loves the people around her without it having to be romantic, she loves and cares about them so deeply BECAUSE she knows it doesnt have to be anything other then friendships, even with the pressure thats placed upon her (and that happens because of her main and best character trait, that being how she is unashamed herself, going against anything and anyone who tries to make her something she isn't)

Anzu is quite literally, my favorite protagonist! I love her design, her voice, her personality and just her being her and not being apologetic about it. Mad respect.
I genuinely hope she doesn't end up with a romantic partner. It would be such a refreshing ending! Plus, that'll teach that people don't need a partner or romance in their to be happy. Hobbies, animals, friends, and family are more than enough!

^ Nope. I meant every syllable. It's even stated in the series that Anzu's life choices upto the start of the series are stacking problems for her future, as it has IRL for countless individuals in various 1st world nations.
(plus that Japan's population problem has been an issue for decades)
It's what makes the series good, as Anzu is right in the sense in not wanting to be in an unnatural relationship born of coercion (and is in doubt as to what situations are real & which are the product of manipulation), yet also was wrong to have ignored relationships entirely prior to that point.
The antagonist is a bit daft though, as she would have better results simply by not revealing herself to Anzu all the time & sparking the latter's temper 😆
Honestly I could see it go either way where she either is on the aro/ace spectrum or she just doesn’t prioritize romantic relationships right now. I see evidence for both arguments. Regardless though, I remember laughing so hard I almost coughed my lungs out when I first watched it. This anime holds a special place in my heart ❤
Yeah I’m not aro/ace but I am someone who prioritizes my own comfort over being in a relationship for the sake of it and I really related to her too. I would hate it if I was forced to date while my hobbies and things I love were taken from me. I’m stubborn and don’t like being forced into things, in her situation even if I genuinely really liked the guy and felt like I would be super compatible with him romantically, I think I would be really resistant to it out of spite

So nice to see others who got this vibe. Watching this show, all I could imagine was a fanfic with Anzu going full aro/ace, making friends with everyone, and ruining the schemes by accidentally hooking her suitors up with each other time and again. Really strangle Riri with that rainbow flag, you know?
Whether she's on the spectrum or just at that age where one doesn't like the idea of relationships, Anzu is still a mood and a half. Mad respect for her wanting to enjoy life on her own terms without giving into the peer pressure the people around her keep trying to push on her.
This reminds me so much of a one shot manga I’ve always been fond of called something like “I’m trapped in a harem manga but I’m gay”, sadly it never got picked up but intentional or not it’s so nice to see it has a spiritual successor

Listen, even as an aroace person myself, love is a choice you make for yourself. That's how it works with ALL the sexualities. Forcing it under the excuse that you'll "miss out" is in severely bad taste. You find love when you want it, plain and simple. And you CERTAINLY should've have to give up on the other things in life that make you happy just to pursue it.

I like the idea of the end of this series just being like a bunch of friends who just support each other even if they aren’t romantic, and the Fairy Gods can’t force anything because “Well, this old fairy God could be a love interest so we don’t wanna take that away.” And Anzu keeps pulling that line from when she’s 30 to 60 and at 80 the fairy will come asking if she’ll find love in the nursing home, she’ll say “No” with a huge smile as she purposefully croaks on the spot

There's such a strong connection between the 3 characters that I want them to be together forever.
Not in a romantic sense.
But is clear that the 3 of them are soulmates.

Queerplatonic partnerships are non-romantic intimate partnerships between two or more people. More than just BFFs, these partnerships involve deep emotional commitment to each other. There are infinite ways QPPs can be structured; some share finances, co-parent, and/or legally bind together.
Listen regardless as to whether or not she ends up choosing a person to date (which let’s be honest with ourselves, ace or not she has the right to be as single as she wants to be) I do always like this trope of a heroine having many suitors but her being very against getting into a relationship, mostly in part because of the fact that in a world where female protagonists are immediately overshadowed by the male side characters, they’re preference for the single life gives them the characterization that makes them immediately interesting in a love filled world. Also if you’ve read this far despite the intro, while yes I do think the protagonist can feel romance but just won’t get into a relationship because she has better things in life then men and partaking in this dumb program, no matter what your perspective on the characters actions and attitude are, they’re perfectly valid, now go have a nice day, have a cookie, idk, this is getting long and weird

Another thing i like that this show touches on very lightly is that no one should have to give up their favorite things and what makes them themselves for romance. Love requires compromise, rarely sacrifice. You shouldn't give up yourself just to have a socially accepted relationship

I chose to believe that the anime ended with Riri not having their powers anymore as the lasting repercussions of going against their job's rules and they continue their path on a redemption arc, eventually even apologizing for what they forced Anzu to do. I just, love, the idea of them continuing to live with each other but it is not in a platonic way just jklfsdkjlds;adlksd
I would relate to Anzu regardless of representation or not!!!! Because if someone force romance on me and remove my hobbies/interests and I be damm

The wiki does describe her as 'aromantic'! IDK if they meant it to mean aro as we know it or 'without romance' but i'm inclined to believe it could really be the 1st. In fact, it did before the anime came out, that's why i watched it!
Yeah, she can be Aromantic without being asexual, there is not a lot of rep for Aromantic people who aren't also asexual
