There are tons of motion tracking for Mocha. I suggest you start right on the mocha Imagineer site. Then all over youtube. But his track for the fingers is one of the easiest tracks - probably not a bad place to begin. Most start with screen replacements and such.
Excellent tutorial. When you have time and convenient, could you make a tutorial on creating HUD effects over a video footage (i.e., as if a person is standing in front of virtual control board as they move their hands and arms pressing buttons)..
For some reason for me it does not work with nulls, but instead of using nulls I used light layers and pasted the "transform data" from mocha to light layers, and then pickwhiped the start point and end point to lights "position" keyframes, and it does exactly the same thing :)
Great tutorial. Would you know the best way to attach a wire frame overlay over a real person, so it appears they are covered in a wire frame, that also tracks with them as they move? Cheers Brett
The person to be framed can be tracked using similar technique. For a simple method with good results, the subject should keep the same distance from camera, and facing the camera. Otherwise, it can get a little tricky, due to rotation and scaling, which requires precise tracking and alignment.
Cool vid. One question, how did you get the drop down menu from (Starting Point) and (Ending Point) so you have the option to do "Express...rting Point" and "Express...ding Point" at 5:00min ? Thanks.
2 things: 1: you can double click on the name of a layer to change its name 2: the after effects point tracker would have been just fine for this as you only need a single point, not a plane to be tracked. Even though mocha gives 'better results' I see no need for you to complicate the tutorial further by bringing mocca into it. (3) use a screen recorder
I've done everything perfectly including bringing in the tracking data -my null object sticks to the finger perfectly but when I add an expression to the beam starting point and pick whip it to the null object it just doesn't stick -the beam won't move. If I PARENT one end of the beam to the null object it sticks great but I cant stick the other end that way. The null corner stopwatch is on and the beams is off just as you have it. I'm doing it EXACTLY the way you do it. The beams just won't stick using the pick whip! I've spent hours on this -please help
Make sure that you pick whip beam ends to the corner pins that contain keyframes. Pls email an image of your project to me and I will try to determine the problem.
One question, how did you get the drop down menu from (Starting Point) and (Ending Point) so you have the option to do "Express...rting Point" and "Express...ding Point" at 5:00min ?
*** To open up Expressions in beam layers: press Alt-Starting Point, or Alt-End Point, then pic-whip to Corner Pin data points.... You can also open Expressions by highlighting the Beam starting point or end point, then click on Animation in the tool bar, and Add Expression.
I'm new to all of this and not very technically minded but am trying to do this for a project. I was just wondering can you do this effect with out the fingers, so its just moving on a black screen? if so how and is there a video somewhere? Thank you
If you just want the beams to float in darkness and not attached to anything, then simply assign start and end points for the beam and move/animate the points around the screen to get the effect you want, using keyframes.
Why did you choose to use mochaAE for single point tracking? In my opinion, the Point Tracker would have been quicker and far more simple for this type of application.
Every time I open Mocha AE my screen is just black... i already tried a bunch of different video formats but none of them worked either. does anyone know how to fix this problem? please help :/
Sorry about the format of this video. It was my first tutorial, and I had no way to capture the computer screen in real-time. I am now using Camtasia Studio, which greatly helps to turn the recordings into professional-grade videos. I do hope the tutorial helped you somewhat. Thanks for watching.
To make the fingers fade in, while the beams remain visible, you can simply add key frames for the opacity of the fingers video layer (bottom layer). Start with zero opacity, and then about 5 seconds later, make the opacity 100%.
When I put the beam on the null object I cannot see the beam line. I don't see what the problem is And I don't get it at 4:56. How did you get the expression starting and ending point at the beam?
1- Did you extend the beam length to 100% ? 2- You must press and hold your mouse button on the pick-whip icon and drag to the beam start or end point, then release.
I just realized that I failed to describe how to open up Expressions -- press Alt-Start Point and Alt-End Point in the beam layers. This will bring up the pick-whip expression icon. Now connect the the beam ends to the corner pins. The beams should now appear. If not, then your tracking corner pin data may be incorrect.
ZuckerSchock Films - back up to where you tracker began to stray, delete the unwanted keyframes, and begin to track forwards again. If the finger movement is too fast, the tracker can't keep up. In which case, you have to track one frame at a time manually.
To open up Expressions in beam layers: press Alt+Starting Point stopwatch, or Alt+End Point stopwatch, then pic-whip to Corner Pin data points.... You can also open Expressions by highlighting the Beam starting point or end point, then click on Animation in the tool bar, and Add Expression.
well yes my tracking was badly done, but forget the tracking, the actual beams seem to be like tiny , i put length on 100% and everything but it wont change anything..
... the beam length is too short???? If so, pls verify that the start points and end points are properly positioned on your finger tips. At 100%, the beam should connect to both start and end points. To test this, try using the Beam Effect without any tracking data, and do not make your layer 3D. It's hard for me to know what your doing wrong without seeing your screen.
well i guess it was just the tracking, you got any tips on how to track the finger tips with mocha? cause i dont understand what to pin point and how sort of, i do understand abit of mocha tracking but not sure what im supposed to do with the fingers..
Don't do a tutorial video you aren't willing to be specific about. It's a waste of time. Everyone who doesn't know how to use mocha either turned you off, or missed a huge step, which makes the entire video void.
Ayush v Nair Origami ... Mocha is bundled with After Effects. Your Mocha project is imported into After Effects. It is saved/exported as an After Effects project. So, the video format is whatever you decide when you render your project as a final product.
Ayush v Nair Origami ... Mocha supports most standard movie clip and image sequence formats: AVI, mp4, mpeg, .mov, .and dv. In order to use clips (i.e. not image sequences) you must have QuickTime installed. The following video files are not accepted by Mocha AE: AVCHD files (.mts or .m2t), Window files (.wmv), and RAW files. If you are having trouble with your video file, then maybe your Codec is corrupt. Just try using a different format. I hope this helps.
Ayush v Nair Origami ... The camera video of the hand was imported into Mocha.. the finger dots were tracked with Mocha, then the data was imported into AE.
bruh lol if people knew how to use mocha for motion tracking why would they be here watching this video the other parts are much easier to figure out than the motion tracking.
the 'and have fun..' at the end is priceless... :) thanks for the tutorial!
great, showing only the necessary parts, no unnecessary talk, thanks
There are tons of motion tracking for Mocha. I suggest you start right on the mocha Imagineer site. Then all over youtube. But his track for the fingers is one of the easiest tracks - probably not a bad place to begin. Most start with screen replacements and such.
I love your videos . You Zoom in so the viewers can actually see what your doing ... Thanks!!
Thank you.
Excellent tutorial. When you have time and convenient, could you make a tutorial on creating HUD effects over a video footage (i.e., as if a person is standing in front of virtual control board as they move their hands and arms pressing buttons)..
First I clicked just because the pentagram in the thumbnail :D
Thanks!

very cool.. i dont think you need to use mocha for this tho.. the internal AE motion track would do the trick.
Would have been much cooler if you showed how to track fingers in Mocha. Then it would have been awesome.
You could use the AE tracker (which tracks pixels), but it's not as good as Mocha (which tracks shapes).
please make another tutorial with screen recorder...
Nicholas Cage.........is that you? Nice tutorial thanks
This was a nice tut
Whoa is just knew that is have 5 fingers to day I SUBBED BRO
very nice video :)
Thank you!
Cool vid. One question, how did you get the drop down menu from (Starting Point) and (Ending Point) so you have the option to do "Express...rting Point" and "Express...ding Point" at 5:00min ?

... you only need one born again... HAHHAHA BRO YOU KILLED ME HAHA
2 things:

(3) use a screen recorder
Right click the layer to rename it. Yes, AE tracker will work well, but I prefer Mocha, as it seems to track better.
i wish you explained how to motion track D: i'm very new to after effects haha but awesome tutorial though:)
Works fine and nothing is wrong, but I think a lot of things are useless or not optimised... I liked the video but a remake wouldn't hurt....
turn on subtitles at 0:14 it says ''reams between a chicken tenders'' lmao xD
Omg! I thought I had turned off the closed-caption long ago. Thx.
2004BeachBum np :D lol i was litterally on the ground ;D
haha that hilarious
You actually kinda sound like Stephen Hawking, and its a good thing. Lol. Nice vid too. Helped a lot! :)

Instead of clicking on rename every time to change a layer's name just press enter when the layer is selected.
Hi I am sorry but I really need this for a competition can you make a new it with a screen recorder? Thanks a million!!!
I did everything as told in the video, but something just went wrong, the beam layers does not appear over the video, I dont know
Thx so much !!! 😭 u are a god
It's amazing!!!!!!

The AE point tracker tracks pixels. Mocha tracks shapes, with better results. Either method will work for this purpose.
Every time I open Mocha AE my screen is just black... i already tried a bunch of different video formats but none of them worked either. does anyone know how to fix this problem? please help :/
thx! Very cool!
I have considered creating a HUD video with virtual control board. Stay tuned...
Shoot all of your screen it is harder to understand when u zoom in and its annoying
kamen traikov Maybe he should actually record his screen and not film it with a camera

ya your totally right!!!
Yes, but I plan to use Camtasia Studio to record any future tutorials.
if you get a minute, it's worth your time to check out!
Peace, Have a great day.
sorry for the comment with the adobe cc but make tut how to track the fingers i dont know how pls :(
COOL!
How do we track this in Mocha?
how you make expression starting point ??
hi, how do you make the background video black then changes gradually to real lighting?!
To make the fingers fade in, while the beams remain visible, you can simply add key frames for the opacity of the fingers video layer (bottom layer). Start with zero opacity, and then about 5 seconds later, make the opacity 100%.
got it, thank you :)
press ALT and click the stopwatch it will give you the option
Knows how to make some freaky awesome cool after effects
Donesnt know how to camtasia :DDD
srz
I tried to simplify it as much as possible.
How do you add the expression to the beam layer?
now what if you have 4 fingers?? will this work?
When I put the beam on the null object I cannot see the beam line. I don't see what the problem is And I don't get it at 4:56. How did you get the expression starting and ending point at the beam?
1- Did you extend the beam length to 100% ? 2- You must press and hold your mouse button on the pick-whip icon and drag to the beam start or end point, then release.
2004BeachBum I did but I still can't see the line.
2004BeachBum
That also my problem !
i can't see the starting and ending point at the beam
2004BeachBum
How you open the Start and And point ?
PLEASE HELP ...

optical flares??
to open up Expressions -- press Alt-Start Point and Alt-End Point in the beam layers.
My ,,Finger beams,, is finish :)
/watch?v=-X77T5Ubrgk
Please make a comment :)
pls make a tutorial how to make this but with adobe efter effect cc pls
bulgarian gamer This is not other
yeah sorry for this stupid comment
2004BeachBum Use OBS for your video recording. It's free :)
i dont have after effect can u give plz....
does after effects include the beam thing? or do I have to download it?
I don't know but plexus plugin can do the trick effectively. ...I don't know if spell it right
my Tracker doesnt work so good. it leaves my point at some time. Do you have a solution?
ZuckerSchock Films - back up to where you tracker began to stray, delete the unwanted keyframes, and begin to track forwards again. If the finger movement is too fast, the tracker can't keep up. In which case, you have to track one frame at a time manually.
What is this program?
can create awsome after effects stuf can't record own screen
what do i do i have one finger ?
how you make expression starting point
To open up Expressions in beam layers: press Alt+Starting Point stopwatch, or Alt+End Point stopwatch, then pic-whip to Corner Pin data points.... You can also open Expressions by highlighting the Beam starting point or end point, then click on Animation in the tool bar, and Add Expression.
It was very annoying to get it. Why don't you use Screenflow or something?
apik tenan!
terima kasih
+James Ongky No, I translate via Google
+BushcraftWumbology - to duplicate the null layer, hit CONTROL-D on you pc keyboard.
when i finally finished with everything the lines were realy realy small and they were all on 100%.. any ideas?
Small? ... Do you mean thin? Or too short? If the lines don't connect with the finger dots, your tracking may be inaccurate.
well yes my tracking was badly done, but forget the tracking, the actual beams seem to be like tiny , i put length on 100% and everything but it wont change anything..

2004BeachBum gyazo.com/600eedfee1eeed705ff3003dc7eafa9b those are the beams
how do you put the points on the fingers ?
I will have to make a tutorial for that....
2004BeachBum come on man its just simple question !
Emprator Z Oh my god... -_- Do you really need a tutorial to do points with a pen on your fingers ?
VipeR Art's - Graphic Designer nope .. just a simple answer :)
Sorry but you're not so brillant...
What if i do not have Mocha Tracking??
Are you using a camera against a screen? :p
nice
Thanks bruh
i do not know how to use mocha....

Use Camtasia To record your tutorials !
u should record with ezvid or camtasia
I'm now using Camtasia for tuts.
Thank you
tell us how to do it without using mocha!
Better to show the full tutor, how to track in mocha like you do, i try, but is very bad))))
how do i duplicate beam layers?
nvm. figured it out. i thought it wasnt the stereotypical copy-paste xD
Good tut, but try nvidia ShadowPlay lol
That lyrics xD
What if you have 6 fingers?
Wauw thanks!
What's the name of this software plz tell me
with WB ... Adobe After Effects
Lol, go to 40 seconds and turn on subtitles XD
cool
Why don't just using plexus bro?
The Beam effect is bundled with AE. Plexus is a separate 3-party plug-in program.
same procedure, but more work for you with an extra finger... lol
What video format is needed for mocha
Ayush v Nair Origami ... Mocha is bundled with After Effects. Your Mocha project is imported into After Effects. It is saved/exported as an After Effects project. So, the video format is whatever you decide when you render your project as a final product.
But file need to open in mocha is it the saved after effect project or the video with the finger..and how to past it in after effect

Bro u didn't understand in this video whay r u opening in the mocha is it the video or the whole project (.aep)
Ayush v Nair Origami ... The camera video of the hand was imported into Mocha.. the finger dots were tracked with Mocha, then the data was imported into AE.
Can i make it in cs4?
Mr Freak ... yes, but Mocha may not be bundled with your version. You can track with just the AE motion tracker. Mocha is not required.
cast all your screen plz we cant see what are clicking o_O
Plz anyone tell me
hy. can you show me this tutorial complete ?
Gayane ?
what type of format do mocha acceptsss
Mocha works for Pc and Mac computers.
When I import a video it is showing error or file corrupted or unsupported file format
What video format are you importing into Mocha? It may not be supported, so try using a different format, such as MP3, MPEG, AVI.
Thank u
I'm using video which is taken from sony alpha 58
Or use rubber bands
what is mocha?
worldismine ... Mocha is a program, bundled with After Effects, that tracks objects and shapes.
bruh lol if people knew how to use mocha for motion tracking why would they be here watching this video the other parts are much easier to figure out than the motion tracking.
