  • We all love a bit of a challenge this time of year. And Andrew at Prestige Liquids WW / @prestigeliquidsww is generally where a lot of these challenges begin. Please check out Andrew's channel in the link provided.
Well this time, the challenge came to me through our good friend Greg / @gregswhiskyguide and I was pleased to accept. Here are my picks. The categories were:
    .Everyday Dram
    .Impress Your Guests
    .A Mixer
    .Friday Night Sipper
    .Special Occassion
I found them fairly easy to pick but...I guarantee that I would pick five different whiskies next week 😃😄
Now I would like to know what my friend Al / @whiskeystraightal would pick. Check out his and Greg's channels for further reviews.
Gav's Drams picks: • The 5 whisky challenge

Blended Grain: Whisk(e)y made by blending single grains from more than one distillery.
Blended Scotch or Blend (any other country): Whisky made by blending single malt and single grain (whiskies) from one or more distilleries.

N.A.S. Non age stated whisky. No age on bottle.
    U.S. Proof: Proof is 2 x ABV. Example…100 Proof = 50% ABV.
    Imperial/British Proof: ABV is 4/7 of Proof. Example…100 Proof = 57.1% ABV.
This whisk(e)y was paid for by me and/or with the support of my Patrons. All views are my own and have not been influenced by 3rd parties. Except maybe Mrs Novice!

have to agree that bourban's are really close with tasting notes. Still love them. Scotch seems to have way more variations.

    Good list...great list however,
Cola? Really? I totally agree that bourbon is just bourbon and I only pour a dram rarely. Maybe one for every 50 drams of malt.
And when the bottle ceases to impress it gets relegated to mixers. But I only do Ginger beer or vermouth. I drank a lot of Manhattans before switching to single malt.

It's only in later years I've got into bourbon and cola Matt. It's just a sweet change every now and again buddy. Especially if I fancy a drink but not beer or neat whisky.
      Cheers.

Thanks for accepting the challenge, Jim.
Unnecessary to say you made some interesting choices... and unsurprisingly the third one is a bourbon. I'm there with you.

Finally, I have a use for bourbon besides cleaning my paint brushes! I always felt a little guilty about using it for that. 😉

I'm in the US. I generally agree with bourbon and I know your selection in Ireland, Scotland, England etc., Is much more limited. Once you get into some of the higher proof stuff and craft stuff, you start to pick up differences and unique profiles. That being said, I don't get as excited for new bourbon releases or new (sourced) brands coming to market because it's all coming basically from the same place.

Cheers Marc. Don't get me wrong buddy...I do still enjoy my bourbon neat from time to time and, I know there are some great examples out there. I just don't turn to bourbon in the way I used to anymore.
