- One of the best sport climbing routes in the New River Gorge, West Virginia, Confirmation, formerly The Racist, has a reputation for being tough for the grade. With long moves, thin holds and high feet, this climb goes down as an area classic. Immerse yourself in this dynamic climbing experience as Elliot Gaunt (@elliotgaunt3526) seemingly glides up the wall.
Confirmation is located at Snake Buttress on The Endless Wall in The NRG, West Virginia. This unique section of sandstone stands out amongst the rest for its stark white color contrasting the surrounding orange toned rock.

It doesn’t look easy or relaxing. The way he’s breathing sounds like 100% body tension for the majority of the climb. But it’s surprisingly relaxing to watch :D
Gorgeous route and climbing, but kudos in particular to the cinematographers! The close-ups of moves and holds were perfectly timed, and really elevated the watching experience and my understanding of the route! Well done!

What got me was the smooth lines and flow. So brilliantly relaxing to watch!!! Reminds me of my younger days when anything was possible (and I climbed nowhere close to this fluidity but man the feeling was awesome). Thanks for the memories :)

What a Route. So Many Cruxes. Well Done.
I just onsighted my first Doug Reed route! Just a 5.9+ R trad line but fun and engaging the whole way. It was made even more special seeing as Doug was belaying me. Such a great video and some beautiful movement from Elliot. Doug thought long and hard about the new name for this route. I think "Confirmation" has a nice ring to it.

If I recall. FA ~1990 called it the racist because it's white and mean. Bright white stone. Small edges with long reaches. The nearby route Mississippi burning was built on this theme I think. Both routes have been renamed. Mississippi learning and this is now confirmation. Famously classic and hard at the grade.

Could you please list the tracks as I would very much love to know those - I watch this video (and The Crouch (5.13d / 8b) Elliot Gaunt) on a regular basis before climbing, it really gives me the spirit, so rare to find something that makes you feel relaxed and motivated at the same time :)

Wow awesome video... usually films like this are based on pro climbers on pro routes, 9b or over... very interesting to see something easier, i suggest you to do the same on for ex. a 6c/7a 😉

This route was renamed to “Confirmation 13b” in 2020 with the blessing of Doug Reed who put this up. For context, this route was allegedly so named because Doug Reed thought the rock was white and mean.

Couldn’t find the route anywhere. Typing it in to a search just resulted in articles about routes that are named with racist intentions. MP had nothing, for some reason the never have a route I see on RUclips.
