Uniting the art of filmmaking with the art of climbing.
NRG Climbing | Starry 5.12a 7a+
Starry, 5.12a, New River Gorge, WVA
Watch as Mary Dorman gracefully tackles Starry (5.12a) in this artistic film set in the New River Gorge.
Doug Reed completed the first ascent of Starry (5.12a) and as with many of his first ascents it quickly became an area classic! This route has everything you want to break into the 12’s, from a leisurely start with comfortable climbing which progresses to more challenging technical climbing as you approach the crux. The test of this route is maintaining strength to pull a big move over a bulge, and then powering through the crux. At the crux you have to step into a specific body position from two small holds, then make a tall pull to a crimp above a c...

Narcissus is a classic 5.12 climb at the New River Gorge in West Virginia. It is located on the left side of a striking cave feature between The Satisfaction Wall and Orange Oswald in the Summersville Lake climbing area. This climb is a favorite for climbers looking to send their first 5.12 and has a little something for everyone. It starts off with some technical climbing in a small dihedral, ...

Climbing in The New River Gorge, Confirmation 5.13b/8a
Просмотров 86 тыс.3 года назад
One of the best sport climbing routes in the New River Gorge, West Virginia, Confirmation, formerly The Racist, has a reputation for being tough for the grade. With long moves, thin holds and high feet, this climb goes down as an area classic. Immerse yourself in this dynamic climbing experience as Elliot Gaunt (@elliotgaunt3526) seemingly glides up the wall. Confirmation is located at Snake Bu...

Enjoy Elliot climbing the stunning "mega classic" Apollo Reed (5.13a / 7c ) at the Coliseum Wall, New River Gorge in West Virginia. Film by Josh Etheridge.
What are the crux boulder grades on this climb?
Awesome
so sick. such a masterpiece, so beautiful to watch. thank you!!
Doug Reed. What a legend. Nice send!
Belle performance et très jolie rocher 👍
Masterpiece. The flow of the climbing and the subtle sounds are impeccable. Videos like these really immerse you and come close to simulating the inimitable flow state that climbing produces.
I love how he said "clipping" 5ft off the ground...
Magnifique vidéo ! La musique va super bien aussi
Wow, you certainly cruised that route.
Great looking climb! I'm curious to know why perma-draws are used here though, surely it wouldn't be difficult to equip or strip the route?
Hey man, awesome video! Congratulations on the ascent! I was wondering where'd you get the audio from, could you give me the audio ID please?
Hello. The music is licensed through a music licensing company for legal reasons. You can find it at Musicbed or Artlist. I don’t remember which.
Man, the run out on some of those draws, especially on the way to the anchors, is nerve-wracking
Haha when you realize the climb is done but your palms are still sweaty haha
I wondered how you got that thumbnail of summiting at dawn.
Looks like a fun climb! Nice camerawork
Thank you! Always trying to match beauty - cinematography to climb
One of my favorites in the area! How do you manage to capture the audio so well?
Thank you. Audio was my first love so I’ve got equal attention and money into the audio system as I do video. We mic our climbers and use shotgun mics on cameras.
I love all your videos, works of art! Keep making these! (Can I be in one?)
Thanks so much!! Shoot is a DM with a classic climb you think would be a good fit for us.
@@brothersclimbing6948 No idea how to DM on RUclips, but some potential great NRG classics that would get alot of eyes would be Puppy Chow (12c), Fall Line (12b), and Preparation H (12a) sort of 3 different styles, all mega classics, all potentially best of their respective grade anywhere in the region, all in beautiful or grandiose settings, and featuring a range of styles.
@@brothersclimbing6948 Oh and I can't forget Legacy, 11a. Undeniably the best route of its grade, probably in the country.
once again a great video... great climb(er)... great sound and editing... please more
We got you 😎
An instant classic psych video, just like all the others. Great job!
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 psyched to hear that!
Great video! The NRG is amazing!! I had the opportunity to visit earlier this year and was blown away by the quality of the Nuttall sandstone. I climbed a handful of Doug Reed routes and was so inspired by his vision and execution so early in the sport climbing game ( it seems like he was very active in 1991 and 1993!!). As a fellow developer for nearly three decades, I have my heroes, Doug ranks at the top of the list. Thanks for the window into one of his classics.
Hey Mike! Couldn’t agree more about Doug’s routes. So many incredible classics and staples for the grades. So cool that you develop! Where are you developing?
That was great. Beautiful place, good climbing and perfect cinematography.
The holy trinity of a good climbing video 😂
beautiful video and excellent climbing. the closeups of the hand holds and the sounds of fingers digging into small crimps made it feel like I was there. great work for both the climber and the video team.
Yesss those crimps are nasty too. Thanks so much for the kind comment!
Your videos are amazing, they always get me so psyched! I'll have to try this one next time I'm at the new!
Wow that’s so great to hear! A lot of work goes into it 💪🏼 so glad to hear you connect with them. Starry is a classic 5.12 - not incredibly technical, just an energy burner!! You’ll have to try it out.
@@brothersclimbing6948 I got back to the new this past week and sent Starry today! Such a fun climb
What an absolutely beautiful rock that is!!!
That’s why it’s an east coast classic!! It’s an amazing cave
beautiful!~
Thanks so much! The wall has stunning colors to climb on.
I still remember 20 years ago this climb is where I learned about taking a fall with the rope behind my leg! Also, this video is legit cinematic gold.
haha before the days of the weekend whipper. So cool to be able to watch and remember something 20 years ago. Glad to be apart of that haha
Your videos are some of the best climbing videos I've seen. And believe me, I've seen A LOT. Keep it up please!!
Wow. Such a compliment! This is much much appreciated
D I A L E D holy shit ive never seen someone so locked in on a climb. He makes this look like 5.11
It's so impressive. The artistry in his climbing is inspiring
Beast of a victory whip! Wowzers. Great video. ❤
It honestly scared me when I was filming haha epic whip
How did you manage all the angles without a drone?
With a lot of ropes, a lot of setup, and a lot of planning haha but indeed, no drone was used
Incredible line, amazing climbing and beautiful music. I enjoyed so much watching your video!
Thanks so much for these kind words! We composed the music ourselves so it’s nice to hear it connects with people ❤️
Mad respect for not yelling or taking your shirt off. And thanks for not cutting the climb, could see every move. Well done
The art of climbing is quite beautiful when done right - and we want to pair that with the art of filmmaking. Both take lots of intention ❤️ glad to hear it connects with people
This has been perma'd? Man, hanging the draws on this on RP used to be the crux.
It probably became the hub for free bail gear 😂 summersville probably decided to do some people a favor by adding permas haha
Very nice vidéo. You made it look easy :)
This video is stoke jetfuel
Let’s go!! Elliot makes things look so easy, it’s so inspiring
why is this called “the racist?”
I have it written in the description in more detail, but essentially the guy who developed this red sandstone area turned a corner and saw this wall which he referred to as “white and mean.” It’s a pretty clever name in context to the crag. He went on to say it will discriminate against anyone who isn’t a certain height due it’s long stretched out moves.
watched elliot send eye of mordor or some 13 in that area...in a torrential downpour. been away from The New/climbing for a cpl years but im making a return an these videos surely fuel the fire :) amazing work
Smooth as butter
Making it look way too easy
Great video. It inspires me to begin climbing.
Yes, he makes it look so easy. It’s so inspiring to have that kind of control
I love filming climbs from a static line, but i would love some pointers if you’re willing to give me any advice on how to improve. Videos are on my channel if you’d like an idea of what i’m doing.
awesome and esthetic videos. cinematic top. music top. locations top. i have to say that 90% of watching youtube is climbing related content. would say i watched them all ;)... Jeremy Schoenborns sends, mellow stuff and so on. You're Videos from Elliot (The Racist) i keep watching and watching again.I have never climbed in the us... I'm from Europe. Mostly i climb in the Alps (Germany, France, Italy) But your videos keep make me want to climb these climbs in the us. Keep it going so i have no excuses any more for not flying over the Atlantic.
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying our videos! We are starting to put out more content so stay tuned, maybe after enough of them it will make you fly to the US! If you come to the east coast maybe we can link up!
Great film and climb! What is up with the dateline music though? I remember a time when climbing was radical.
Pure passion
what a great job drone op did! amazing framing all over
Thank you. We actually did not use a drone on this one. It was a bit of a complicated setup haha
@@brothersclimbing6948 whaaaat?? what is it? a jib?
@@brothersclimbing6948 yeah ditto, how did you film this with no drone?????
I have a love/hate relationship with this climb... I feel like it's a bit overrated, but it's also quite beautiful, and very unique for the New.
It’s a nice approachable 12 tho. Short, well rounded, aesthetic… plus Trav makes it look like a 5.7 haha
Hands down the best climb I have ever tried. An amazing 12 in a great area. Sadly haven’t been able to get to the new for awhile so the last time a tried it I was a pretty bad climber but I’m hyped to get back on.
Train on a roof before coming back! haha the pump is real, even for strong climbers. Would love to inspire you to make a NRG trip!
Amazing stuff! Now I have an even better video to show ppl my proj
Good luck on the project! Glad you like the video, let us know once you complete your project!
The big gear companies regularly put out hour-long, expensively produced videos that don't have a fraction of the emotional impact of this. Awesome filming!
My guy. So stoked to read this comment. Thanks so much, it means a lot.
I couldn’t agree more, incredible climbing cinematography.
The one shot transition from the sit to the climb was 👨🍳💋
Let’s goooo! You have no idea how technically challenging that was. So glad you noticed 💪🏼
@@brothersclimbing6948 Fuck yeah.
Been having a lot of mental barriers with climbing performance anxiety lately, these videos have been my fix before a session, helps me appreciate the beauty of climbing over anything else. Keep them coming!
Thanks for sharing, we’re so glad you can connect with these videos and they bring you back to the beauty of climbing, that’s what it’s all about!
Great climbing on an awe inspiring route, hoping to put a few good attempts on it and a few other routes in the coliseum when I can finally get back to the new
That’s great! This area is a climbers playground. Start training pump control!! 😅
