Funny enough, he had a past counterpart in the PlayStation Yu-Gi-Oh game “Forbidden Memories.” Jono, as he was called there, was one of the pharaoh’s childhood friends. That game came out relatively early in the series at a point where the lore about Ancient Egypt hadn’t really been finalized, so it offers its own alternate take on things.

    Just finished the video
I love your Egyptian Joey concept!
Here's another thought: perhaps the way he met Atem was a reflex of how Yugi became friends with Joey
I was thinking maybe before joining Atem's court that this Joey was a bandit, but not a evil one like Bakura, but a poor one just taking enough to sustain his sister
Kinda like how present Joey was a bully who also cared about Serenity and wanted money to pay her operation
Then when he met Atem(perhaps disguised as a commoner to see how egyptians lived) he was super mean to him and stuff, it'd reflect how Joey treated Yugi earlier, but when Atem finds himself in danger he puts his life on the line to protect him despite not knowing he's the pharaoh, unintentionally unlocking the Millenium Scale's power to defend Atem and thus being seen as worthy
That way this low class guy would have to be admited into the pharaoh's court despite having never trained for it, much to Priest Seto's and his father 's dismay

However to avoid it being too similar with the "for my younger sister" angle, how about it's a friend who's like a sister who unbeknownst to him and her, have the Red-Eyes Black Dragon Ka, and he has say Flame Swordsman or a different but similar spirit for his Ka?

Joey would have been a soldier who came back alone after his whole platoon was destroyed, the Millinum key searching his soul to find he did everything he could to try to save them, ends up bonding with the Pharoh when Bakura attacks. During the attack Kalim dies protecting past Joey, and offers his Ba and scales to him. The new Ba ends up becoming a proto time wizard. (IDK what do you think?)

I think that he'd have a different Ka. Most likely the Flame Swordsman to reference it being the one Joey in the present day sees himself as, while meeting someone who would have platonic feelings for him having Red-Eyes for her Ka, needless to say that similar to Mahad and Kisara, she'd sacrifice herself for someone, that being him, and give him her Ka to make sure that he doesn't ever give up on proving himself as worthy of his place.

To be fair he did have a atlantean dragon counterpart, though it's anime only unfortunately and he lost it after that arc
Thinking about it, a middle way between Joey being a relatable "normal" human and having magic powers could be him just earning it
Like if he beat Marik & Ra, which might make the egyptian god to respect him enough to allow itself to be used by him, and got the Millenium Rod as well since by the rules of the Millenium Items they pass to who beat the user fair & square, giving him an egyptian self
Or, in case the Orichalcos Arc wasnt filler, if Joey was the protagonist he could've got all the three dragons for himself in the end of the arc after beating Dartz like how Yugi got the 3 egyptian gods, that surely would make him a powerhouse. Alternatively in a more realistic scenario his dragon could just have decided to stick around and become his duel partner instead of immediately passing away
    Just some ideas

not bad. I feel there are a few possibles to explain if Joey did indeed have ties to Atem long ago
    1. Like Kisara, Priest Seto and Blue Eyes, Joey would have been the holder of the Red Eyes. His appearance would cause him to be hated by the common populace because his hair would be like onyx and his eyes blood red, opposite Kisara. He then would by saved by the Preist Shimon, like how Kisara was saved by Priest Seto years later, Shimon would likely take him to Atem's father the Pharaoh to explain things and have the boy work with one of the Pharaoh's most loyal trusted commanders or under the original holder of the Millennium Scale, former master of Priest Karim. Atem and Joey, with Karim being Joey's other best friend like how Mahad was to Atem, would grow up together to a degree and since he didn't play a public role in the events of the ancient past, its likely he was Atem's royal shadow, similar to Impa from the Legend of Zelda series. After both Atem and Karim die, he is the most likely to take up the Scale after Seto takes up the Puzzle after the end of Zorc.
    2. Joey's main things in regard to his modern Deck are luck base, Warriors and Fusions. The Warriors could be explained if ancient Joey was a guard of some kind to Atem, maybe a semi-royal who became a guard or something. his Fusions (both his own and those made with monsters from Atem's Deck) tie him to the Millennium Scale and Atem himself. his luck base cards might reflect how he became tied to Atem in the first place or an ability he had even then.
    3. Given how Red-Eyes and Blue-Eyes are sometimes considered two sides of the same coin or some such, its very likely he was related to Kisara. Kisara might even be the ancient form of Joey's modern day sis Serenity. (possible matchup between Seto and Serenity even higher and more likely now). i can see both Joey and Kisara being twins who were separated at birth for their appearances, which likely would have gotten them killed sooner if both were ever seen together.

I like to think that Joey was that part of Seto that was so faithful to the pharaoh

  • @aaronbischoff721
    @aaronbischoff721 19 дней назад

If done right I would say this idea would be great. Probably having ancient Egyptian Joey come from a family of peasant farmers with the pure heart and potential of greatness which leads to him having the Red Eyes Black Dragon as his main monster. As kids Atem noticed Joey standing up for someone and sees his pure heart and started a “secret” friendship since Atem was future pharaoh and couldn’t be seen with a peasant. Their friendship grows as they grow up and ancient Joey proves himself worthy of being in the inner circle of the pharaoh and holds the scale along with the conflict ancient Seto which continues to the present day with Kaiba and Joey. Then the duel between Marik and Joey, Joey could use Ra against Marik and win. Then it would make it even better in season 4 where Yugi, Kaiba and Joey all have Egyptian connections with the legendary dragons

The final Yugi vs Marik duel had to happen for the threat of the story to still exist. But here's how it could've happened even with an Egyptian background:
    - Marik figures out Joey would survive the attack. So he throws his own soul into the Ra attack to soul swap w/ Joey's weakened body, ejecting himself from Good Marik's body. Then he'd win, as Joey. How did he know Joey had an Egyptian past? Well, when he tried to brainwash him the first time (think JvY on the docks), he couldn't. This would sacrifice/change the dock scene, but any Egyptian background would probably do that anyway. But now the final battle saves Joey as well, and Good Marik can prove himself by helping Yugi w/ the soul swap hint to save his best friend.
    - There's no way to keep the 'almost moment' of Joey passing out as hype as it is, due to part of it being 'normal guy stands up to a God' motif being marred by Egyptian magic. So a slight alternative, show the connection but don't have it give him a spirit buff, maybe just his eyes for the cheat identifying. Would still steal from the emotional bits of the brainwashing.
Two kind of weird alternatives, but I like the idea of the friendship lasting longer than one lifetime

Gonna be honest, while I do agree that it would've been interesting for Joey/Jonouchi to have an ancient past I think it's fine he doesn't because he's still an amazing character that doesn't need to be attached to "destiny" or a sacred role simply because he's the reincarnation of one. In fact, I say it works really well for his character because just because he wasn't part of that "saving the world" plot doesn't mean he was just gonna sit back and let his friends be in danger for it. And to me it makes him way more interesting that way
At least he has one with the Ancient Atlantis, which yeah isn't cannon to the manga but it was still neat.
But outside of that, I really enjoyed your story and would've been cool to see it in the show, Also I think the Millennial Scales would fit him the best

Cool idea but i kinda disagree if Joey past is a royal guardian because what makes him cool is how he is a dark horse character. How about make his past as a normal civilian but a little bit on the delinquent side. What about in his past, he was a thief but doing it for justice like a Robin Hood. Atem somehow met him and befriend with him. The red eyes as his spirit represent his harsh yet free life and how he is seen as an outcast but with a lot of potential.

Personally, I like how the falsebound kingdom handled Joey's "Egyptian past." It's a false past, mind you, but in that game, joey isn't linked explicitly to the pharaoh or his court. Rather, joey is the leader of a band of mercenaries. No magic, no special birthright, just raw skill. He's a force of nature leading yugi's friends and single handedly does a number on the evil kingdoms forces. He's only defeated by seto and lemme make this clear seto didn't beat him by being stronger or better. In fact, joey defeats seto and all his 3 blue eyes white dragons. Seto wins by going around joey. Having the places joey was protecting captured while joey was fighting seto and clapping his cheeks.
This past is perfect for joey because it keeps the hard-working no magic past. He's known for and it puts him on scale. Power wise with kaiba and yugi. He's still slightly weaker because of course he is, but he's near their power, and that's the best we can get for our boy

Would have been a baller move if Joey used the scale to fuse Ra with Red Eyes after using Monster Reborn to steal it from Yugi’s graveyard.
Imagine it, Joey has no monsters he can summon, all he has is Ra in his hand and Monster Reborn, suddenly he feels the scale grow heavy reflecting the doubt in his heart.
Then he sees it, a very brief glimpse of a new monster that the Scale could bring out, one born out of the fusion of a God fusing their power with the Dragon of Potential, eclipsing the power of the White Dragon.
“I play Monster Reborn to summon Red Eyes Black Dragon to my field, only to use the Power of the Millenium Scale to fuse my Dragon with The Winged Dragon of Ra! May the heart of the Dragon of Potential be free of Darkness and Doubt before the Dragon that carries the Sun across the Sky! I fusion summon the Dragon of the Eclipses, Red-Eyes Black Flame Pheonix!”

He's not based on any character from Egyptian mythology like the others which makes him a difficult fit. I do agree with the scale being the most fitting item for him but, if he didn't posess any milennium item it would be appropriate that he have been a gambler since he has such a strong affiliation with dice and luck.
That said, I've always associated Joey/Jono with the middle ages rather than strictly ancient Egypt. Along with Red-Eyes clearly being a European style dragon, Gearfried is another monster associated with him which I believe is based on a historical figure named Siegfried who slayed a dragon. I think it would make sense for him to have a connection to the iron age rather than shoehorned into Egypt mythology.
I don't know how you would have him be connected to Yugi other than coincidence or perhaps the magic of the Millenium puzzle but it seems to make more sense than the alternative.
